Colour Band in RAW display
AMD ATHLON +5200 64 x 2 Processor

Catylist Software Suite 8.2
LG L1710B and EIZO GE210 Monitors
XP Professional
CS3 Extended 10.0.1
Camera Raw 4.3.1
Color Management active
When Camera Raw screen displays in full screen mode on the CE210 monitor (21" wide screen), a vertical bar is visible (very slight) on the right hand edge of the picture frame - very slightly darker (or browner) than the image. When the image is switched to zoom mode, the colour band remains on the right side of the picture frame, but as the picture reduces in size, the band remains static in the frame area, visible against the grey background. This suggests it is a part of the display area, and not part of the image. If the complete desktop area is reduced in width, the band becomes narrower, and may move out of frame.
Picture content needs to have plain colours - say sky or sea, of pale colour for the band to be visible.
If the desktop is drawn over to the other monitor, the band will most likely remain, but by "jiggling" the image a few times left-right, it may cause the band to disappear. However, immediately the desktop is drawn over to the main monitor, the band reappears.
If color management is disabled on the L1710B monitor, the band most often disappears.
Images whether originating from my camera, or sourced on line produce the same result.
When the image is displayed within Photoshop, this band does not appear - all is normal.
I use other software to display and adjust raw files, and images are perfectly normal under this software.
My current analysis is that the problem is Photoshop Camera Raw and/or Graphics controller, or interaction of these, quite possibly associated by the processing of the colour management information file(s)..... where do I go from here?
I believe I have fully uninstalled all Catylist files prior to updating to new version. As I am currently learning Photoshop, I am unable to identify if this is a new / recent problem, or if it has occurred following any software / driver update.
Any guidance will be appreciated.
Corrupt or otherwise bad display profile or bad VRAM would be my guess...

Help! Colour banding graphics problem /posterization?
Hi.
I've been having a few problems lately with colour banding/gradients/posterization. I first noticed it 3 or 3 days ago in photoshop, and seem to have noticed it's mostly system wide. I ask her because you're all clever and I don't have a clue what to do next! So please help me!
Quoted from my thread somewhere else that I've had no luck with and was recomendded to try here...
Since yesterday whenever I'm using Photoshop and there is blurred edges/gradients etc, basically not solid colours, there is really noticeable sharp colour banding lines around it.
It's happened before and I've accidentally had it on 8-bit instead of 16-bit, but I've checked all that and it's on 16-bit.
I've googled it and the only suggestion was about duplicating the layer and blurring it then adding noise, but that didn't even work.
[EDIT] SINCE THEN I HAVE REALISED IT IS AFFECTING SYSTEM WIDE GRADIENTS AND COLOURS
My system is set to Highest 32-bit too. I changed it to 16-bit to see what happened and it made the banding 10 times worse.
An example of the problem
Posted: Thu May 03, 2012 7:32 pm Post subject:
It's supposed to be a smooth gradient. I didn't use the gradient tool, I used the brush tool with solid white and then smudged and blurred it like I always do.
That's a good point, and actually I did start it as an 8-bit originally (my photoshop has been starting as 8-bit, grayscale for a few weeks now and I don't know why) but then after I remembered and changed it to 16-bit, and noticed the banding, I closed that document and started a new one and changed it to 16-bit RGB when the pop-up for a new document came up.
The resolution is always 72pixels/inch, and the size 256x512, colour mode RGB.
In advanced it says colour profile Working RGB: sRGB IEC61966-2.1 which I have no clue what means, and I never usually click advanced so I don't know if that is usually that or different.
When I use the brush tool and blur and smudge it it's fine, with no banding. It's only when I lower the opacity of that layer, or use Hue/Saturation and Lightness to darken it so it's hardly visible that the banding appears.
I've just tried it again with a fresh new document and it's still the same. Even in 32-bit it's exactly the same.
It's done it before, and all I did was close and reopen Photoshop and it was all fine again, but this time it happened last night and since then I have restarted my computer, had it turned off for hours, and I've even tried it on gimp and it's the same.
Ruled out that it's my monitor, tried a different one that I know works perfectly and it's still the same.
I've double checked all drivers, and monitor profiles, and drivers for my monitor, and colour profiles, and colour management, my graphics card settings, device manager for problems with any hardware, and everythings coming back fine. Could it be that my graphics card is old and just needs replacing? I'm not good with which one to buy so would getting a new one the same be of any help? The computer is about 6 years old, and the only thing changed on it is the RAM and hard drive.
I don't really want to end up not using this computer anymore if it's a simple graphics card issue, I just don't know how to tell if it is.
The thread that is from is here if you want to see some suggestions I've already had.http://www.imvu.com/catalog/modules.php?op=modload&name=phpbb2&file=viewtopic.php&t=423942 &postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
My username is 'Ao' on there so that is me explaining the problem.
To add to that...
Here is another example of what is happening.
I'm thinking from all the answers I got from google its a graphics card problem. Only problem is all the updates are installed, and I can't find anywhere that sells my graphics card to buy a new one. So I need to know which graphics card will work with my system right now?
I've done some tests so you can see my system details. Im clueless with which one to buy so please help.

When I go to color managment in the first tab, devices, where it says profiles associated with this device it is empty, and 'use my settings for this device' is unticked. It says device at the top and mine says 'Display: Generic Pnp Monitor - Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family'.
I did try to set up my monitor and had the .icc file for it in that list that pops up when I tick use my settings and click add, and I think I did set the profile to be the one for my monitor. I can't remember exactly how I did it and where I get that .icc file from, I've been through so many settings and websites trying to fix this.
It's not like I've recently changed any hardware or anything or my monitor, I was on photoshop one minute and it worked fine, then the next it just didn't. It's so strange because all I was doing at the time was using photoshop and I don't understand how it can go from working fine to all these problems with graphics and the banding. It's so confusing.
I can noticeably see banding on that image. It is still a gradient and smooth to a degree, but there is obvious lines of colour differences, and a harsher line on the outside.
Is that smooth for you? For me there is very obvious banding, especially at the top on the white on black.
I just don't know what else to do. I've tried everything I can think of, and spent hours upon hours on google. I've even tried a system restore to put it back to how it was when it was working perfectly, but it's still the same. I tried it on another monitor, just plug and play, and it was the same. Is there an easy way to install a monitor properly so that it should in theory work perfect? Because you're talking about the monitor profile, but with the second one I tried to test it all I did was plug it in and it was still the same. I've even tried it on my tv, and as I remember I think it was less noticeable, but then again that might be because of my tv settings because my tv is quite dark.
Just clueless as to what else to do now. I don't want to go out and buy a new computer for £100's over this, as I don't really have the funds to do so but I need a computer so the only option would be to sell my new iphone that I only got last week! Which I obviously don't want to do. That's how desperate I am to fix this though. -
Creating colourmaps for all colour bands of GeoRaster maps
Dear all
Is there away of creating a colourmap that applies to all three colour bands of a colour image so that one can then adjust the alpha channels for the complete images as opposed to just one band? I am trying to create semi transparent GeoRaster maps using colourmap alpha channels. Reading the following thread, How to display transparent georaster on Oracle Maps? it states that colourmaps can only be applied to one layer (band). Is there a way of creating one layer based on three bands?
Although in another recent forum thread I started Joao recommend upgrading to MapViewer 10.1.3, as that has better and easier to use transparency options, this is not possible in the short term since the server that MapViewer runs on would need to be upgraded. I need to complete the work before this is likely to happen.
Kind regards
TimHello, Andy and welcome to the Discussions.
I would suggest that you ask for assistance in the developer forums to which you have access as a member of Apple's iOS developer's program:
http://developer.apple.com/devforums/
You'll be much more likely to get assistance there, particularly with such a very specific issue. This forum is really for people using the iPhone rather than for people developing for it.

Lightroom changes colour in my RAW files captured with NIKON D300
Dear All! Lightroom changes colour in my RAW files captured with NIKON D300. Some of the images are completely ruined. I am sure Adobe must be aware of this problem. What could be done? Is there a solution? Many thanks for your help. Regards, Stanislav
You want "something different" but this "something different" is quite hard to define.
I want a result which reflects the result on the camera. Have the feeling the display
of the D800 is not the greatest, at least (not only the color issue which is often discussed)
but also the exposure. Often I think I would need to compensate it, but then afterwards
on the computer the non corrected version looks most of the time better.
I think its interesting to see how allergic people react when the word jpeg comes up.
This is also just a rendered result, just by the camera. There are many options in my cam.
I like the vivid setting with some modifications. And that gives me a result I like.
And if I like the result, why shall I spend way more time to replicate it?
I do not talk about that I would want the jpeg, I only say that what I get color wise out of the
box is how I would like to look at it. I still want the capability to fix for example exposure in image,
but I want the base the version I got from the jpeg view (or how the Nikon raw software could do).
On Lightroom I did not manage to have a profile that looked as appealing to me.
It also consumes way more time in my workflow to fix all pictures manually and results might differ.
To work on an image you need a starting point, I do not say the jpeg look is always perfect and
what I want all the time, but most of the time it is.
You say yourself you use profiles. So why should there not be a profile which automatically adjusts to the camera settings.
Its so frustrating to see a look which you like (the preview image when the pic is first accessed) and
then Lightroom switches to its own rendering which is flat and which I do not like.
For me its clearly something Adobe and/or Nikon should fix, like the mentioned "auto correct to preview look",
Nikon profiles/settings/raw-details in Lightroom or for example a Nikon import module. -
Colour banding in new MBP 17 Quad core I7
Hi there has anyone had this problem yet.
I have a new MBP 17 Quad core I7 with an anti glare screen.
When I look at images where there is any colour or tonal graduation I get a coloured banding effect where the graduation starts....almost like a halo, like the screen quality is set on very low resolution...only it's not. The same images on my old MBP 17 don't have the banding which implies it's a screen problem....any ideas?I hear the banding is glue that still hasn't dried properly ,apparently they were trying to ship them out the door a little too quickly...who knows !

White scxreen/ vertical coloured bands on startup - 15" Macbook pro
Hi!
On startup, a white startup screen with vertical coloured bands. Directly after this screen, I get a message (with the bands) saying I need to Restart in 4 languages. But pressing and holding the start button does not restart so I just shut down.
Just to be clear, I am listing various points that I think might have contributed (but I don't know what's happened or how to fix this)-
1.About a week back, when I picked up my MBP, I heard a rattle like something loose inside the notebook.
2.Just before this, once when I woke from sleep, the entire screen was filled with coloured dots - thisa went away when I restarted.
3.Last eve, at startup, the screen with bands appeared and wouldn't go beyond the 'Please restart' msg I referred to abv.
4.When I inspected the back of my MBP (the side on which the battery is), I noticed one of the little screws missing from the side closest to the hinge of the notebook.
5.I could still hear the rattler from side to side when I moved my MBP around so i gently moved it up and down - the rattling stopped and I found the missing screw on the ground.
6.I put the screw back in its place but the banding still persists and the laptop won't move beyond the 'Restart yr comp' pg (pressing and holding Start still will not restart the comp.
What I have done so far to try and solve this -
a.Looked under Discussions, found an exact similar problem with pictures at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7382672& .
Only solution/diagnosis on that thread reads as a VRAM issue, that needs to go to Apple. No further updates from the poster, so not sure what happened.
b.I did a Hardware Test by putting in the first CD of the OS - It says no problem.
c.I reset the PRAM- did not help.
d.I reset the MBP Power Manager - did not help.
e.I removed the battery and put it back in - did not help.
Can anyone suiggest anything at all ?
I also want to know if its technically feasible to move my hard rtie contents to a storage device if my comp needs to ship off for repair as all my work is on the comp and is not backed up :o(((((.
I'm still under warranty but travelling in India so can't just ship it off (I think). I bought it in USA, and as I understand its a global warranty.
Any suggestions or answers most appreciated.
Regards,
VenkatAn update -
Still no luck with getting the stripes off or actually getting to my home screen.
Did run the computer check (Hardware Check) from the Setup Disc 1 again, and this time the full modse, and again, no problems reported.
Am not worried about sending off my MBP to repair; am mostly worried as to wether I can retrieve my data off the comp before I send off.
Read somewhere that I can use the macbook pro as a disc by firewiring two macs together, I'm hoping that will work.
I 'tested' my Mac to see if it goes into firewire mode (Power + T) and it does, so I am hoping this means that it will be seen as a drive on the other Macbook Pro I plan to firewire it to.
Feel a bit lost without my MBP!
Any suggestions/ tips really welcome :o).

I'm sending my output to a spool request. When I look at it online in the "Graphical" display, a sample of a line is below:
JOEXX

I'm using a pipe as a delimiter.
When I switch to "Raw" display, the same line as above looks like what is below:
#5JOEXX#54569878#5STAT44#5
The pipe delimiter displays as #5.
Is there a way to get around this where my pipe delimiter shows in the "Raw" Display or another delimiter that will display in both display mode?
Any help would be appriciated,It is not possible, as I have created one spool of the standard transaction SM51 and tried to see in the RAW Display.
the output was the same...#5 for pipe, #4 for horizontal line

Iphoto 6.0.6 bug? raw displays banding
Last night I imported a couple CF cards into iphoto that I took on my canon 20d and they display all funkay!
the image is covered with black and magenta horizontal stripes, and green ones too.
but wait! That's not all. it gets better. When I click in the image the colors change. sometimes more of the image gets colors on it. BUT! other times the image will go back to normal. how is that for Funky?!
this is iphoto 6.0.6 and osx 10.4.10. None of my previous RAW images were affected (those that I imported using iphoto 6.0.4). all of my images are canon RAW (cr2).
Has anyone seen or heard of this problem? or know how to revert back to iphoto 6.0.5?
thanks,
dougdo you still have the images on your cf card?
try re-importing one of the cards and see what happens.
sounds weird... also try importing with the canon software instead of iphoto and let me know how you get on -
FujiFilm X-E1 RAW displaying different colours
Hi,
First of all, I'm very happy the new version of Lightroom handles FujiFilm X-E1 RAW (RAF) files fast and efficiently.
But I have a feeling the colours aren't quite right. The X-E1, and its brothers, are known for their incredible colour reproduction and wide dynamic range in a compact format. When shooting native JPEG's with, or without shadow compensation settings in the camera, the resulting JPEG files has a clear FujiFilm identity. The colours and luma and are very even all the way from the shadows to the highlights. But when loading a RAW (RAF) file into Lightroom (v4.4) the colours, still untouched, aren't at all the same, and not the luma either. Shadows are harsher, the skin tones and most colours actually are a tiny bit off. Overall I would urge you to study this in detail and give us an optional Camera Calibration profile or something, that will give FujiFilm justice here.
Does this make any sense to you, or am I just being picky here?Without seeing what you’re seeing, it’s hard to say if you’re being picky or if the variances you see are within what is expected between two different raw converters.
Adobe doesn’t attempt to replicate any particular camera’s treatment of the raw data as seen in the camera JPGs with the default toning or the Adobe Standard profile.
You will likely see very different toning between Adobe’s factory default settings and what your camera does, especially if it is trying to optimize things. You’re in charge of the toning with LR so you’ll likely want to do something to each photo you care about. You can click Auto tone and get a guess that is usually better than the default, but sometimes it guesses really wrong, just like camera metering might underexpose a shot if the sun is in it and LR doesn’t have the benefit of knowing what focus point was active to guess at what the subject was to make sure its exposed reasonably.
Likewise, for colors, Adobe doesn’t know what the camera has for a camera-profile when it interprets the raw data, so Adobe provides a standard color profile, based on their own methodology.
For many Canon and Nikon DSLR cameras, Adobe has also provided Camera-match color profiles that make some attempt to emulate the camera-manufacturer settings, but these are only approximate. I rarely would use anything but Camera Standard if that.
You can always get an X-Rite color-checker and use Adobe’s DNG Profile Editor to create your own camera profiles(s) for specific lighting situations or even a dual-Illuminant general-purpose profile like all of Adobe’s profiles are. Creating such a profile isn’t going to emulate what the camera does, either, but if you feel that the colors are off using the one Adobe Standard profile, your custom profiles can better match certain lighting situations.
I carry an X-Rite Color Checker Passport and take a calibration shot whenever I'm in a non-standard lighting situation, espeically fluorescent or arena lighting, just in case the profiles I already have aren't quite right, and I need to create a new one.

Colours wrong when RAW file with Adobe RGB profile printed from iPhoto '08
I've taken some photos on my Nikon D300 with the colourspace set to Adobe RGB. These import and display fine in iPhoto '08 but when printed it looks like the printer (Epson R2400 with the Epson 6.12 driver) is using the sRGB colourspace. The only option I can find relating to colour, is the Color matching dialogue which gives the option of Colorsync or Epson Color Controls. I've tried both with the same results. Preview shows the profile of the .nef file to be Adobe RGB (1998).
Has anyone any ideas of what I need to change?AndyMn:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Most inkjet printers are geared for the sRGB profile. The Adobe profile is used by professional printers. Apple's services also recommend the sRGB profile. You need to reassign the sRGB or sRGBIEC1966-2.1 profile. I'm not sure about the raw file but you can use the ColorSync Utility to assign that profile to the file.
I have an Applescript that will apply the profile to files or folder of files dropped on it. I'm not sure if it will work on RAW files but it does on jpgs and tiffs. You can download it from Toad's Cellar. It takes about 6 seconds per file but does not apply any additional jpeg compression to jpg files.
Assigning the profile is considered better than the Applescript way but can only be done one at a time. You can test each method and see what gives you the best results.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -
Mid2010 macbook pro web colour banding issue
I just upgraded to a 15" mid 2010 mbp, and there is the strangest intermittent problem in safari!
Sometimes, gradient colours display the way they should, other times it looks horrendous, like its in 256 colour mode or something!
there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to it, sometimes its fine, sometimes it looks terrible! as a web designer its extremely annoying!
i thought maybe it was something to do with the dual graphics, but i'm sure it isn't!
i run a web server too, and i discovered that when i view my site locally, it looks fine, but once i look at the same image online, the banding occurs!
i also discovered that if for example http://www.site.com/image.jpg showed banding, if i went to ftp://www.site.com/image.jpg then the image displayed correctly!
happening in firefox and chrome too :-s
this is infuriating! why why why?Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your links don't seem to work for some reason, so couldn't see the example of banding.
Have you tried reinstalling the OS, or at least Safari, to rule out software corruption?
Since your Mac is brand new, you might want to take it in to Apple for evaluation. It's possible you have some sort of intermittent hardware problem that surfaces when you use a browser.
Good luck! -
Been to my local Apple store today to have a look at the 30' ACD.
While the Apple guy in the shop promised the display to be top notch colour etc I did the old black to white gradiant across the full screen (2560 x 1600 at 100% pixels) and the banding was terrible. I checked all the settings in the display preferences and all were set correctly.
When I say terrible I mean bad. I even turned the brightness down to 50% and the results were just as bad.
What I would like to know from Eizo Coloredge/Samsung XL or NEC Spectraview owners is if you do the same on your screen does this show tonal banding?
Is this just an LCD thing, an uncalibrated ACD or just out of date ACD technology?
Thanks in advance.
Gareth.I hear the banding is glue that still hasn't dried properly ,apparently they were trying to ship them out the door a little too quickly...who knows !

Update to 10.6.8 colour problems with external display
I have a mid-2010 13" macbook pro. I use a mini DVI to HDMI adaptor to connect to my Philips LCD TV. It has always worked perfectly including audio. Since update to 10.6.8 (yesterday) there is a colour-cast on the external display that makes it unusable. I have tried a hard reset of the mac with no effect except that the colour cast changed from green to red (strange!).
Anyone had a similar problem or have any ideas how I could solve it? (no time machine so I can't downgrade unfortunately)Though I am using and iMac 27 and not a macbook, I have the similar issues since the 10.6.8 update.
I too am using the adapter to connect to a Philips 42' LCD.
You can see my post here: (has a pic of what my TV image now looks like since update.)

I ended up going back to 10.6.7, not a fix, but no other alternative..
I used to have this problem a year ago on a PC that happened to have the same ATi Graphics card. I just used the ATI control center and changed a setting to YBR component or something like that in some color settings. But unfortunately we don't have the ATI control panel for mac, least I don't think we have any kind of alternative, but would prolly fix it.. -
Adobe Colour Issues with RAW images
Hi,
I have had Photoshop for a long while now and i have a problem. When looking at RAW images they have a green hue on the shadows (this is when previewing them in Bridge, Photoshop and Camera RAW). This problem seems to be solved by minimizing the window and then making it fullscreen again a few seconds later. How ever after this, if i switch to another image and back the green cast is there in the shadows.
If I print screen it you can see the problems in any other image editor along side a screen show of the "solved" image.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem. I've added in a screen shot for comparrison.
Thanks
Mark
#CS5 Extended 12.0.4
P.s. There are much worse images i can upload if people want more clarification or even just to see more of the problem. You're saying both of these images were captured from the screen of Photoshop before and after doing your workaround?
You likely have a display driver problem if so. You may want to check the web site of the maker of your video card to see if they offer an update for your hardware and OS. Caveat: If you have an ATI card, consider installing older version 11.7 instead of Catalyst 11.8 - I've seen problems with the latter.
Out of curiosity, is your monitor calibrated and profiled? If not, what color profile do you have associated with it at the OS level?
For that matter, what OS are you running?

Colours upon importing Raw files change
Hi,
I shoot raw on Canon EOS 30D. As I wasn't happy with colour cast on my images (a bit reddish) and I couldn't get the results I like in Lr, I tried to change Picture Style Settings on the camera.
I shot 3 images with 3 different settigs of Colour Tone (max left, middle, max right).
I can see they look diffirent on the camera screen, they look different in import dialog box in Lr but when they get imported into Lr, they all look the same!! And the same redddish colour cast on all of them...
Is Lr applying any settings upon import?marer1976 wrote:

When in doubt...

Hi, I have recently upgraded a Designer generated 5.0 Form to Forms 6i. I only upgraded the FMB and all the associated PLLs through the Forms 6i Designer, rather then regenerating through Designer 6i. There is a reason I need to do this, dont ask ;)
