Colour changes on creating PDF

Hi,
I have just started using Indesign CS3 and am having a problem when I export to PDF.
On export, the colour on my page that has a transparency, changes to a duller version or colour. All the other pages stay with the correct colour.
I have tried changing the Transparency Blend Space but it does not help.
I have also tried various different settings in the PDF export area.
If I delete the image that has the transparency, the colours are all correct. The image is in PSD format and is made up of two images that overlap and blend into each other.
Any ideas on what I can do to fix this problem.
Thanks

Vicky, I think you should start a new topic with a proper subject line.
Your question has nothing to do with color changes.
Indesign has master pages, but no master files. If you want a
*template*, just Save As and change the Save as Type: to template. A
template is no different from any other file, except that it will prompt
for a Save As if you try to Save it.

  • Letters change when creating PDF

I am using Acrobat Professional 6 and creating PDFs with the "Adobe PDF" icon it created when installed.
Some documents from the Bloomberg system are converted by a sort of substitution cypher to gibberish. Capital letters are affected, but not lowercase. Capital letters are changed to the next letter in the alphabet. Also, numerals are increased by one. Exclamation points replace spaces, forward slashes replace periods, etc.
For example, the original said this:
Crandon Capital Partners v. Shelk, 202 Ore. 537
    The PDF says this:
    Drandon!Dapital!Qartners!v/!Shelk/!313!Pre/!648
This is repeatable on different days and with different files.
This does not happen with files from other sources, but the Bloomberg tech people insist it doesn't happen for them. I learned they are using Acrobat 8; could that be the difference?
In any case, how do I fix it?

Look at the document properties (ctrl-D) under the font tab. You probably did not embed the fonts. I suspect you are using the Standard Settings which does not embed all fonts. Try changing the settings file to Press or Paper (I don't remember which ones are listed for AA8). You can also check the settings to be sure that the fonts are embedded (all of them) and probably subset.

  • Color changes when creating PDF in Acrobat X Standard

I'm printing to PDF from Word 2010 by using Acrobat X Standard.  Here are the two issues:
I have overlaid two text boxes (different colors) on top of each other.  The overall image should be blue on top and bottom with tan in the middle.  When I print to PDF in Word, the PDF is perfect; however, when I print to the printer, the blue on the bottom changes to purple, while the blue on top is correct.  Again, this is the same blue text box, so I don't know why the color changes.
Also, the tan is a darker shade than what the PDF shows.
Is this a printer issue or PDF settings issue?
I'm new to using Acrobat, so any step-by-step help is very much appreciated!
    Thank you.

Create Adobe PDF is a (by default) a LOSSLESS operation where Acrobat processes the Word graphics data directly into PDF.   Printing is a LOSSY operation that first has Word convert Word->”printer spool”, then the printer driver (Adobe PDF) converts that “printer spool” into Postscript, and then Distiller converts the Postscript into PDF.   As you might imagine, you get MUCH higher quality and fidelity results from the former.
Have you verified that you are using the same color management settings in the printer from both Word and Acrobat?  Is the Konica configured for Postscript, PCL, other?  There are SO MANY possible options that could be impacting your configuration…

  • Document layout changes when creating PDF

We have the problem of the layout/formatting of documents changing whenever we try to print to PDF from, for instance MS-Word.
We open a large document of lets say 100 pages in total, then when we choose PRINT and now select ADOBE PDF instead of the default Windows printer, then the document layout/formatting changes and now suddenly htere are only 95 pages.
It is aboviusly some font setting problem, but we have not been able to find a soultion ourselves. This issue also prevents us from using "create from multiple files" as we cannot trust the final layout (page numberring end up wrong in PDF file)
    Any input will be appreaciated.

Thx for the input. I am aware of the suggested workaround, but I was looking for at more "permanent" solution, as we need to combine 40-50 files for each job (Word, Excel...and more) and therefore we are trying to avoid having to go through all documents each time we need to convert to PDF.
    Currently we are :
    opening each document individually
    then selecting ADOBE PDF printer
    then checking document formatting/layout
    then printing to PDF.
finally combining the 40-50 PDF's to one PDF
This we have to do as we cannot trust the formatting/layout.
It is off course undesirable when we know we can combine Word, Excel files to one PDF in one "go" without having to open the individual docs. at first.
Surely, it must be some printer driver setup issue (using printer fonts, enabling/disabling bitmap fonts, use truetypes....etc)? we just can't find the recipe for this ourselves.

  • Pagination changes when creating PDF from FM file

Using Structured FM 7.2p158, Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.3. I have updated a chapter with a graphic and want to send a specific page to a colleague. Tried to print the individual page to a file, then distill that print file to a PDF file; Distiller flushed it, whether I used the Acrobat PDF printer or my regular printer.
Next tried printing the entire chapter, which works, but the PDF pagination is changed from the original FM file. Tried setting to "Standard" and "High Quality Print" but still get the same result.
    Any suggestions, please?
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

    Cheryl,
You should only be using the AdobePDF printer instance when working on FM files. If you changed to a different printer and created output using that to send to Distiller, then there can be a number of issues, especially if you've somehow used the printer fonts (you may have substituion enabled in the printer driver giving you different metrics). The SetPrint utility from Sundorne <http://www.sundorne.com/FrameMaker/Freeware/setPrint.htm> will ensure that your default printer in FM is always the AdobePDF. Note: you can still manually switch in FM if you need to directly output hardcopy to your system printer.
If Distiller "flushed" your output, then there should have been a log file generated that specifies what the error was. This might help provide some solution to your original problem.
The joboptions settings in Distiller wouldn't be creating the reflows that you're seeing. It's probably one of the fonts, printer instance, graphic size (dimension/scale) that caused your problem.

  • Document size changes when creating pdf from jpeg

When I create a pdf from a jpeg file, the document size increases considerably. The native jpeg was saved in the "save to web" feature in Photoshop. I cannot find settings in ImageReady or Acrobat to make my document the correct size. Any suggestions?

Why not save the PDF from Photoshop directly? This gives full control
over compression settings. It will not, however, downsample so you
    should do that first.

  • Why do colours change when converting from Word to PDF

I am converting word files to pdf, however the header and footer background colours change once converted. How can I stop this happening?

Depends on how you are creating the PDF. If you are using PDF Maker (the create PDF button), then check the preferences in that menu. There is an entry for the settings file selected. If you are printing to the Adobe PDF printer, the settings file is listed under the settings tab of the properties menu.

When I install Photoshop Elements 10 it DOES convert all the PDF files to Photoshop Elements-10 Docs. it even changes and shows the PSE-10 Icon. So I am alway installing PSE-10 or uninstalling it. • Colour change in identically exported PDFs: InDesign CS5 to CS6

Artwork turns out with a greener hue in a PDF Print document exported using InDesign CS6 trial software that has ruined a whole print run.
This catalogue has been printed in past years using CS4 and CS5 software, each time the colours in the exported PDF proof, PDF Print file and InDesign files being accurate and matching perfectly.
This time I used a trial of InDesign CS6 - Importing the same mother file as previous years and working on the document. When exporting the document however, despite using identical settings to export PDF files in the past, the exported PDFs turn out with a greener hue than the previous CS5 PDFs. I trialed a few different kinds of colour conversions in the PDF export window (i.e. 'no conversion' to 'convert to destination - RGB') just to see what happened -  and all turned out with the same result. The colour change is small but this was exxaggerated at print and as a result the colours
looked drastically different from the catalogue the year before. Printing aside, (as it's a whole other ballgame), it came down to this slight PDF colour change.
I'm wondering if anyone can help explain this - does CS6 handle colour exporting differently to CS5?

    Hi Eugene,
Looking up the settings, they say the following:
InDesign CS5: Unsynchronised "settings are not synchronised for consistent colour"  (odd; CS5 version is where the file exported with accurate colours)
InDesign CS6: Synchronised "using the same colour settings for consistent colour management"   (CS6 version exported with a colour change)
Another thing I've realised that might be an issue:
The product images are still in RGB format (supplied by the photographer), where everything else in the artwork is in CMYK format. I've run a test export where I've converted everything to CMYK and exported it to a PDF.
    The results:
InDesign CS5: Same colours consistently on both PDFs with RGB images and with all CMYK images.
InDesign CS6: Green hue across PDF with RGB images in it, Correct colours in PDF with all CMYK images.
So is this where the problem lies? The CS6 software having Synchronised colour settings shows a colour change when RGB photos are exported to PDF?
    Let me know your thoughts...

  • Images changed to negatives when creating PDF

I'm using Creative Suite 4, OSX 10.5. I'm finding that on occasion, images in my documents are changed to negatives when I'm creating PDF files.  I can submit more details here, but I thought I'd check quickly to see if there is an obvious answer that I may have missed.
    Thanks,

Sounds like it might be an inversion caused by Windows RGB to Mac RGB. I have a haxie called Flip4Mac which inverts windows stuff to be displayed on my Mac.

  • Creating PDF from Word loses text

Hi, using Acrobat 9.0 Pro, and creating a PDF with the toolbar icon in MS Word 2003. Occasionally, the newly created PDF will be missing two lines of text at the top of the 2nd page.
This happens on the one document consistently, which is used as a template for board papers, but not sure if it's happening on other docs as well.
Have tried using the distiller, and this works fine. Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Here's an example of what doesn't work. Basically it's all standard bullet points for the first page. At the bottom of the first page, the last bullet point has a lot of text, which then spills over onto the second page for a couple of lines. There is then a new bullet point again on the second page.
What happens is that the text on the second page above the bullet point does not get captured into the PDF.
I've shown where the text spills over onto page two by typing the following: "All this text at the top of the second page ........"

All the companies offered both a House and Land and Turn Key product strategy except for xxxxx who did not do Turn Key homes. xxxxx homes were also generally more expensive than the other companies. For these reasons it was proposed to omit xxxxx from the Stages 1 and 2 house builder partnering strategy, and use alternate suppliers. All this text at the top of the second page (which continues on from a bullet point on the first page) does not get captured into the PDF when using the Convert to Adobe PDF icon in Microsoft Word 2003. This text will be captured however if you change background colour (fill).

  • Why the Colour changes in AI ???

My friend had a PDF file created in AI. She gave me the PDF file only. I open the file with AI in order to do minor editing but when I copy this file and paste into a new AI document, the colour changes (it becomes darker) even both documents are in CMYK mode. (I am using Adobe Illustrator CC)
The same file my friend gave me, I did the same with Adobe Illustrator CS5, there is no problem.
Can anyone help? Thank you so much in advance.

I understand that for an export operation, but still puzzled why the histograms are almost identical in LR for images that had been brought into PS from the same RAW file and converted to different spaces (with slight differences undoubtedly due to the different gamuts).   In that case, LR must be "honoring" the different color spaces, with the same appearance and histograms...  But when I soft-proof the same RAW file I get very different histograms -- the sRGB more stretched out than the ProPhoto one.  Those soft-proof histograms are "the same" (realizing they are all quick calculations) as when I do the corresponding convert to profile in PS.
Maybe I'm not getting my head around "the histogram of the proof target."  That would be the more "dramatic" (changed) histogram I'm seeing in LR's soft proof and PS's convert to profile.  But is there a reason to show it that way?  Doesn't a histogram need to be interpreted in a color space to be meaningful?
If I go ahead with something like a Save for Web or Export from LR in that target color space, I'll then see the histogram return to more or less what it was before (given that rendering intent has done its thing).
Is it that the more dramatic histogram is simply representing the image in the wrong color space??  I can see that as a pragmatic decision.

  • How to change text in PDF doc. which is a musical score

    Hello,
I'm new here, so please excuse me if I do or say something I shouldn't.
I need to change the words in a musical score because the font is too small. OCR recognition doesn"t work because there are illustrations that are different from images or text... Is there a way to get in there and make the changes I need to do?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

  • Random error when using cfpdfform to create pdf

I have a series of pdf forms that have been created with extended rights in reader using both Acrobat Pro 9 and Acrobat Pro X. I use cfpdfform to pre-populate the form and name it with a unique guid.  Some people randomly are getting the error in reader "This document enabled extended features in Adobe Reader.  The document has been changed since it was created and use of extended features is no lonfer available.  Please contact the author for the original version of this document."
