Colour differences when copying

I work on a Mac and I just updated from Illustrator CS5 to Illustrator CS6 and I'm noticing a weird problem. I have a file that I created in CS5 that when I copy the artwork to a new file in CS6, the colours are totally different.
I have checked my preferences against those of a co-worker that still has CS5, and as far as I can tell, everything is the same!
I've attached a set of screenshots (below), using a file created in CS5 (bottom image), and what it looks like when it is copied into a new file (top image).
Anyone have any idea why this is happening and what I can do to fix it? My client isn't going to be too pleased with my current results!
Thanks in advance!

Yes, I've been reading that. It also gives me instructions on how to replace my current colour books with older ones, but I'm a bit stuck... It is having me go find my document profiles by going to [user]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS6/[lang]/New Document Profiles... Problem is that I don't have the "Adobe Illustrator CS6" folder.
This is the same with the other CS6 Mac in my office. Google is providing no results... Any ideas?

  • Exposure and colour differences when importing...

    I'll try to be brief.
I shoot in NEF and upon import into LR I convert them to DNG's using the LR 'Zeroed' setting. I do expect a flat looking file but what I don't expect is a colour shift and such a flat looking file. Let me explain...
if I don't convert the NEF file to DNG and instead import it as a NEF with 'Zeroed' settings again, I retain more of the original capture exposure look along with colours that are more accurate. If I then take the imported NEF files and then convert them to DNG all seems well.
    I don't understand what's going on here...can anyone help?
    Thank you.
    Paul

@Denis - yes thank you and yes I also realised that the topic of importing re dng is an often discussed topic.
I read the Jeff Schewe post some time ago but it does not address my question which is...
same image import NEF and get one colour and exposure view then take the SAME image and import but this time as DNG and get an entirely different looking image. Invariably, the NEF import looks better than straight to DNG and it is this that I am finding odd and frustrating all at the same time.

  • Colours desaturate when I copy and paste an image into another file

I'm using Illustrator CS4 with Windows Vista, 4GB RAM. I've created an image using lots of gradients and different shades of colour, and have tried copying it into a new file, but all the colours in the copied image are desaturated. For instance, a blue with an RGB value of 95 179 255, becomes 114 174 223 in the copied image. All the colours are similarly desaturated. It's very annoying! Anyone had a similar problem, or have any idea what's happening?

    Jacob,
I am using Illustrator CS (ver.11.0.0) and all of my docs are cmyk. It might help you to know that this: the cmyk values in the original document were assigned as: c100 m55 y0 k0. When I close the doc and reopen it, the values change to: c93.74 m55.69 y2.35 k0. I don't understand why. Can you help?

  • Massive colour difference LR and Photoshop?

    Hi all,
I'm in a bit of a difficult one here and really need some help ASAP.
My LR and PS used to display the same colours - I regularly use X-Rite to calibrate both my Samsung BX2450s and whilst not perfect, they've always looked pretty close to one another and to the printed versions of my work.
But in the past few days something odd has happenned and I cannot figure why.
Have a look at the same image being displayed on the same monitor - one in Lightroom and one in PS.
I have just printed this off for a client and was horrified when the image came back looking like the Photoshop version! Much darker and less contrasty.
Does anyone have an idea why this is happenning? I exported the image from LR to PS by hitting 'edit image' and selected 'edit original image' which is an 8-bit TIFF
This has never happened before and I'm in urgent need of assistance as the file needs to be printed and delivered by Friday!!!
    Many thanks in advance everyone
    Cheers

This procedure is different from your original posting, because now you are saying, "Edit a copy in PS CS5.0 with LR adjustments." So now I understand your editing process, but still confused as to the image(s) you are comparing showing the difference. In a previous post you say:
The image in LR (original) has been modified in LR and then edited in PS and saved as a TIFF (copy).
That finished TIFF (copy) is what you see in LR.
To show the colour difference, I sent the original (edited TIFF) to PS and took the grab to show the difference.
The bolded sentence is still confusing me! Why are you comparing the "original" TIFF edited in LR only, with the PS saved "copy" that has been edited in LR and PS! Why would you expect them to look the same?
I sent the image from LR to my printers and it came out the way it looks in PS.
Are you using the TIFF "copy" with both the "original" LR processing and PS processing applied "destructively," with no subsequent LR processing? If you apply any additional LR settings to the TIFF "copy" you must export the image again and create a TIFF file copy #2.
Again, it would be helpful if you tell us what specific processing steps you are applying to the image in LR, and the subsequent processing steps you are applying to the image in PS. Also, what is the source for these TIFF files (i.e. scanner image files, other), what color profile is assigned to the original file, and what color profile is assigned to the file copy? Maybe this would better help us determine the cause and correction.

  • Different photo file sizes when copied back from external HD

I backed up some photos to an external HD (80GB, same size as in my iMac at the time), with Mac OS Standard format, under Tiger. The internal HD crashed, taking much unbacked-up data with it to the digital beyond.
Now with my new Leopard iMac (and wisdom acquired by experience), I have noticed a different file size on the different drives after copying the photos back.
Other posts have pointed out differences in memory allocation / block size as the culprits, however, can that make the large difference seen in my case?
Example 1 is a Tiff file of 8.2 MB on the external HD, which shrinks to 6,8 MB when copied to the 500 GB iMac drive (taken from the Get Info window)
Example 2 is a JPEG which shrinks from 1.2 MB to 552 KB when copied over.
Examples 1 & 2 also shrank to 6.8 MB and 576 KB respectively when copied from the 80GB external drive to another, 320GB external FAT32 drive.
So my question is: Am I somehow losing something with the shrinking files? Does memory allocation/block size difference make that big a difference?
    Thanks for your help.

I think I ought to mention that I also have a new laptop and have experienced file sharing permission issues with some applications. Might this be part of the problem? (Although everything seems to be properly owned!)

  • Colour problems when printing - Photoshop image

I have created a small header image in Photoshop. It consists of a background with a number of layers using blue and grey (the grey colour is RGB: 202, 202, 202). I placed the image in InDesign and then converted to press quality PDF for printing. In InDesign I have also created a number of shapes (rectangles with rounded corners) which I have made the same grey colour (202, 202, 202). On the screen everything looks the same grey, however, when I convert to a PDF and print, the grey in the image I placed from Photoshop looks a completely different grey colour to the rectangular shapes I created in InDesign with the same background colour. The grey colour I am using is all 202, 202, 202.
I ahve checked colour synching in bridge and it is correct across the creative suite. I have checked output preview in Acrobat and they are the same. I have also checked profiles (assign profiles) in both PS and ID and they are the same.
The printer is an HP Colour laserjet 3800DN and when i do a etst print, the colours all appear to be okay.
Why when I print are there completely different shades of grey?

    Hi,
Just did all that. I converted imager mode in Photoshop to CMYK and created a rectangle shape with the same grey colour underneath it and printed it directly from Photoshop. I then converted image to PNG and placed in InDesign, created a grey rectangle underneath the banner image and printed and finally I converted to press quality pdf and printed. All still have the same colour difference between the grey colours.
The weird thing is the Photoshop grey looks weird - kind of washed out with some magenta in it.
I am beginning to think it is printer problem.

  • CS5 - Layer links get lost when copying/duplicating to another psd-file

    Hello,
Following problem when using Photoshop Extended CS5 12.0.4 on OSX 10.6 described as example situation:
    1) You have a psd file with several layers and/or groups.
    2) Let's say 1 layer (N1) is linked to another layer(N2)  in that file and a further layer (N3) is again linked to another layer (L4). That makes 2 linked layers sets. (N1 and N2;  N3 and N4)
    3) When copying those linked layers to another existing file (either by using drag and drop, but also if using the duplicate layer/group menu option), all linked layers get linked together as one link, meaning that your previous SETS of linked layers are gone. (all 4 layers are linked together now as one instead of 2 separate sets of 2 interlinked layers.
Note: The only way to partially fix it was to duplicate the group  into a new file (using duplicate layer group from menu option as new  file), but i require it to be working for copying content from one  existing file to another existing file, hence this method is not  satisfactory.
    4) Does anyone know how this can be fixed, it looks like a PS bug to me?
    Any suggestions appreciated, many thanks.
    Best regards
    Manuel

Hi Dave, thanks for your swift reply.
The sample i have posted is just to explain the priniciple. Usually we work on very complex images with loads of groups and linked content.
Therefore drag each set of links is not really an option in this case, as it would cost quite a bit of time.
Our workaround trick at the moment is to mark the linked layers in colours in the layer palette and relink them after they have been duplicated but again this is not ideal. Thank you for your response, much appreciated.

  • Keep font style/format when copying to Keynote

    Hello all,
I recently updated to the last version of Keynote under Mavericks, older version was quite simple when copying, you may copy from a website or Xcode and the fonts colours, size and style kept their appearance.
Now every-time I copy from an external source the text gets grey and standard futura font...
How can I solve this 'paste' issue?
Thank all very much in advance!

    Any thoughts?

  • HP LaserJet MFP M476dw paper size mismatch when copying or scanning from ADF

We have HP Color LaserJet MFP M476dw that has an issue when copying or scanning from the ADF.
Put a single A4 sheet in the ADF and choose copy, with all settings correct & no resizing, and the output copy is moved down the page (increased top marging by a couple of inches).
My initial thoughts were a paper size issue (e.g. treating A4 as Letter or vice versa) but all settings look correct.  I have even done a reset and started over and the problem remains.
If I take the original and place it on the flatbed and copy from there with all the same settings then it works fine.
There is a similar issue when scanning from the ADF.  Again, scanning from the flatbed works fine.
I've tried all I can think of.  Does anyone have any further suggestions?  Could it be a fault in the ADF?

  • Sales analysis report differences when run by Sales Empl as opposed to Item

My client is running Sales analysis report and notices differences when run by Sales Employee as opposed to by Item.
    I explained that:
When run by item, the report does not include service type invoices or non-inventory items.
When run by sales employee it DOES include service type invoices and non-inventory items.
Are there any other differences I should be aware of?
Does someone have a query I can run to prove this difference i.e...invoices for non-inventory items for a period? To prove where the difference comes from between the two reports?

    You may try this first:

When copying some cd's into itunes folder on my computer, some of the songs are copied as separate albums. Please could someone advise how I bring the songs together as one album?

    Hello - thx for reply.
However, the Steve Maguire article is from 2010. Has Apple a simple solution now eg some way of dragging individual songs to one album cover? I'm not very I.T. literate

  • Error when copying files using WebDav web folder

When copying a large group of files/folder to a 10gAS portal page we are randomly seeing the error: "An error occurred while copying some or all of the selected files" in Windows Explorer. Clicking "ok" will resume the file copy process.
The only error I see in the Apache log is:
[Mon Aug  2 18:00:06 2004] [error] OraDAV: Apache/OCI Error -9999/0: ORADAV: LOB was closed with active write operation
Any suggestions? I couldn't find anything on metalink, though i have logged an iTAR as well.

My AirPort Extreme card was replaced on my MacBook by Apple. Prior to this, I was getting odd errors like the one outlined above. I do not receive this issue anymore, and I think I can attribute it to the hardware issue with the card.
