Colour disparity between LR4.1 and Elements

Hi all.
I am new to Adobe and the printing of my digital images (using a third party lab).
Pictures I take are in RAW and I only use LR4.1 for post production before exporting images in JPEG and colour space sRGB. I am seeing a visible change on the same monitor between LR4.1 and Adobe Elements 6.0. I should point out the image I like is show in Elements 6.0 or other microsoft (colour managed) application.
Upon having some of the images printed I am seeing a close resemblance to what is in LR4.1 but the B&W images all seem to have this brown tint to them rather than the pure B&W I would expect as shown in Elements or other colour manged application.
On occasions the 'Detail' preview pain also shows the image in the B&W I would expect to see rather than the larger image displayed or that shown under the 'navigator' menu.
I should also point out that on the same monitor (Dell 2208WFP) the colour pictures are near as perfect.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you for your time.

You have a corrupted monitor profile.  You can confirm it using these instructions: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/2008/12/28/corrupted-monitor-profile/  but that's only a temporary fix - you then need to calibrate the monitor properly.

  • Colour difference between LR4.4 and CS6

Why is the colour different from LR4 to CS6?  Using Spyder to calibrate screen and I know CS6 picks up the Spyder calibration but not sure is LR4 picks up the same calibration.  Both are set for srgb colour space.

If you wish to have the best match between Lightroom and Photoshop it would be best to select Pro Photo RGB as your Color Working space in Photoshop.
If everything is working as it should (i.e. the monitor profile is good and valid), that normally makes no visual difference on screen. The only possible exception is if the document profile in Photoshop is sRGB and you have a wide gamut monitor. Then you might see gamut differences.
Other than that, the conversion from any color space to the monitor profile should give identical results - that's the whole point of color management. But if there is a problem with the monitor profile, one conversion may go bad but not the other, and so you see a difference.
In short, any difference that is not attributable to gamut clipping (and again that only applies to a wide gamut monitor) is diagnostic of a bad profile.

  • What is the difference between message type and element

    hi,
When we create a new variable in BPEL we get the option to create 'simple', 'message type', 'element'
I would like to know what is the difference between message type and element.
    thanks
    Yatan

A message is part of the service and is usually assigned to one of the operations in the wsdl. For example getPhoneNumer() operation may have an input message of personInput and output of phoneNum. These messages would have a type...maybe of string or decimal or a complex type with multiple values.
An element is typically a complex type that could be defined in an xsd file.
When you create a variable in the bpel, you can declare it as a message or a simple type or an element. As I understand it, the simple types are pre-defined in the schema namespace such as string, decimal, date, etc.
The elements are defined in the xsd files or wsdls and can be a combination of strings, dates, etc or other stuff as well.
The messages are defined in the wsdl as part of the input/output but they are typically assigned a type just like other variables you create.

  • Colour management between creative suite and iPad/iOS

Does anyone have any insight into colour management for imagery between creative suite and iPad/iOS. ? i.e using the appropriate Proof set up across indesign/photoshop/bridge to as close as you can mimic what you will see on the iPad?
We're seeing quite radical differences from what we shoot in our studio (which is consistent on all our screens across the studio) to what we see on uploading to iPad. How can we best mimic the iPad colour space?

  • Colour change/tone between Raw image and elements 9 image

Elements 9. Recently started having this problem that was not there when I first installed E9 I set the picture up in RAW and all seems well with result as I want it. When then opening elements from the RAW image, the image shown to me in elements is noticeably darker and has colour variation on it. Basically I can't trust the elements image to be reflective of what prints out or the RAW image. This is more than annoying now.... I'm reluctant to re-install as I don't want to experience any new problems as a result. Any thoughts on this from anyone please?

OK, checked the colour settings. Everything was set like you suggested.
But the problem has been way less noticeable during the past months. Maybe because I made a recalibration some time ago. The screendumps I attached where made this spring. So there might be a chance my monitor profile was corrupt back then, but got OK since i recalibrated.
I'll do some more tests, saying thanks for now for the quick reply.

  • FrameMaker10: Cause of difference between actual display and element setting

    Hello, everyone
In using FM10 in Windows7, I've experienced the problems below.
    1) A black square(■) is displayed while an ASTARISK element is set in the structure view. ("*1" is displayed on another computer )
    2) Different BODY elements are used but no return is inserted between the sentences.
Acutually, I already know the solution to the problems: import an element definition to the file.
If you know the (possible) "cause" of the problem, please let me know.
[Message moved to FM Structured Forum by moderator]

I'm starting to grasp, where your problem might come from.
You're saying, that when you create a new document and use those elements you mentioned, you are getting those weird results?
And, after you import the element definitions, everything is as it should be again?
Then all you need to do, is to get your system administrator or whoever is responsible for your FM setup to update the standard templates you are using to include the latest element definition file (EDD), as it seems you are using an outdated or incorrect version of it.
The issue, that you are receiving a square bullet instead of "*1" means, that the ASTERISK element is mapped to some other text brick (the square bullet) than in the current version of your EDD (which is embedded in your template file).
The BODY element seems to be mapped to a character style instead of a paragraph style in this outdated version - meaning you will have no line breaks, as it is treated as an inline element.
So, in short terms: get in contact with the guy that did set up your structure definitions/ templates. He should be able to fix your problems in no time.
If the guy isn't in the company anymore or if those structures were created by some 3rd party company, you are going to need to do some more research on how to change templates and their respective element definitions.
It is most important for your work, that at least one person in your company has the knowledge how to fiddle with those things, or you might be facing more serious issues in the future.
On a side note: binary FM files are the ones using *.fm as an extension. Those files include everything the document consists of: your document, the template, the element definitions and everything else.
As a counterpart, XML files only contain your document and the structure markup. Templates, element definitions and almost everything else is applied to those files upon import in Framemaker, or excluded upon export.

  • Why is there a difference between LR4 image and PS-CS5 version which is much darker

if i get an image to look great in LR4 (v. 2012) after upgrading the cat from LR3,(version 2010) -  and it looks great in the new develop mode, then I open  up the image in the latest PS CS5, version 12.0.4 x64,  the image then looks much darker in PS and in no way matches the image in LR 4.
    NOT ACCEPTABLE! WHY, Adobe??
I'm on a 64 bit Mac, OS 10.6.8  -- my catalogue settings in LR are for the largest monitor, highest preview, don't discard... and it writes changes immediately to xmp
is it because the RAW processor in PS doesn't yet match the one in lightroom? and it won't be the same till CS6 is out, and I upgrade to that?  Adobe says all my software is up to date. How do I get things to match? never had this problem with LR3 or any earlier version. What's up?  I'm not on the beta - i just downloaded the real thing from Adobe - read all about it online and I've been very comfortable wiuith LR for years, but I should be able to hit command E on my mac and open it up in PS, looking exactly the same in PS as the image in Lightroom. the new develop mode in LR4 is awesome - so much better than LR3 which was so much better than 2. Why is this happening? How do i get the images to match? what am i doing wrong, if anything? any clues anyone? thanks in advance.          ( would love to include a sample, but I don't see how i can attach a scressn shot of the two.)
    anyone?
    owen

thanks for replying, Jeff. You may be a user ( that sounds funny )  but you are certainly one well connected user.  thanks for getting back,
I just click command E  using the shortcut for "edit in CS5." I never go to the menu, if i know the shortcut.  My basic color settings for PS has for years been what i have set up as a ProPhoto /rel. colorimetric color space on both PS... and in LR, my edit in PS-CS5 set up is for a PSD in 16 bit ProPhoto as well - should look the same, right?  You'll probably scold me for saving as a layered PSD instead of a layered tiff - I can't remember why - but I do have my PS preference set for ALWAYS maximize PSD and PSB compatability. Could you give me your advice and reason for tiff vs PSD. I hear that PSD can be "less efficient" than tiff with respect to metadata updates. Not sure exactly what less eficient means or what problems may arise with PSDs.
Years ago I got into RAW files with the D65 workshops with Seth Resnick and Jamie, before there ever was a lightroom - in fact i first downloaded the first ACR plug in from adobe before it became a part of PS -    ( early 2003? ) - and perhaps you pixel geniuses don't always see eye to eye on certain things but i respect both of your opinions and your work and I'm thankful that you are both out there helping us... and Thomas and all the hard working people at Adobe too.
So...  after posting, in the deveop mode in LR4 - I switched process versions from 2010- (there was a slight change)- then i switched it back to 2012 - then reopened the file ( exported it to CS5 ) in PS - and lo and behold - it all looked good. the lightroom and PS versions looked like a match - perhaps I should chalk this up to user error. not sure.
that said,  when i take a canon CR2 file and just drop it into PS on my dock and it opens in CS5's ACR - I still see the ACR equivalent of LR3- which is to say - the exposure, recovery, fill light system- not the new development modality of exposure/contrast - highlights, shadows, whites and blacks -- do you know if we have to wait for CS6 to see the new ACR that matches Lightroom4 - or is an update soon forthcoming? what do you say, Big Guy?
and many thanks for your attention, your knowledge , and your sense of humor.

  • Disparity between selection list and iPod list

I have my iTunes preferences set to update selected playlist ("User's iPod Selection")only. However, my iPod shows that I have only 1,094 songs on it, whereas my "User's iPod Selection" shows 3,766 songs on it.
Could someone kindly explain what I have done wrong and how to correct it?
    Thanks much!

Thank you, and thanks for your prompt reply!
    1. My "User's iPod" shows 13 GB free (out of 20). My "User's iPod Selection" list shows 11.32 GB ... I assume that's the amount of GB the listed songs take up?
Ok, I just disconnected and reconnected my iPod to the computer and, although the "User's iPod" says that it's loading over 2,800 songs, it stopped loading after it reached 1.089 songs totalling 3.40 GB , which means 15 GB used, even less than before!
    2. So far, I haven't figured any pattern to where it stops loading. I'll check again, but I'd love to hear any additional thoughts you may have.
    Thanks again!

  • Disparity between HD usage and Disk Inventory calculation?

I'm cleaning up my dodgy Hard Drive before replacing it with an SSD.
However, Finder shows my HD usage as 166GB, whereas Disk Inventory shows only 56GB.
    What is causing the difference?
    Nige.

Connect your Time Machine HDD and click on it.  Open the Backups.backupdb folder and manualy drag and drop the folders to the appropriate places on your new SSD.  This will be a tedious and lengthy process but the 'automatic' trandfer is an 'all or nothing' proposition.
    Ciao.

  • Disparity between Home folder and Macintosh HD

I have had some issues come up with iTunes and was getting warnings that my disk was getting full. With only 900+ songs, I knew that could not be true. If I click on my home folder in the finder window, I had zero kb space left. I did some cleaning and am back to 1.9 gigs available. However I have 53 gigs available on my HD. What should I look for to help clean up some of this? I do not see any duplicate files other than the ones I deleted from the music folder and iTunes. I am not putting any Backup files on my HD either.

RTFM It explains WhatSize groups like sizes in color groups. Those folders don't account for the descprepency. It seems more like some corruption in your home folder.
Log back into your problem account and navigate to ~(yourHome)/Library/Preferences and trash these two files:
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
Then log out and back in again. Or restart.
(You will have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)
    Let us know.
EDIT: Also are you using FileVault on your Home folder?

Looking to purchase Adobe Premier. What are the differences between Premier Pro and Elements?

    Welcome to the forum.
This article is a bit older now, with changes to both PrPro CS 6 and PrE 11, but most aspects still hold. PrPro CS 6 has added even more "differences" though: http://forums.techsoup.org/cs/community/b/tsblog/archive/2011/10/18/premiere-elements-9-vs -premiere-pro-cs5.aspx

  • Disparity between size of time machine backup and my Hard drive

The lap top is holding 53 gb on the disk, but time machine is only holding 44gb. Is that ok?
How can i be sure that the initial backup went ok. I had woken up this morning and got an error message that the backup could not be completed. However further backups today are progressing normally. there is a disparity between the disk sizes and i am not sure if i have a complete time machine back up or not.

I am sorry. Let me clarify. I have a new la cie hard drive. I hook it up for time machine to the ibook and after about 24 GB of the 53, i would get an error message saying that the backup could not be completed because of an error. (no other information) .
I installed time machine buddy and found out there was a file in the itunes acct that might be causing the problem and i had time machine ignore that file.
I then erased the Lacie drive to start again.
The next backup i made it to 44 gb but got the same error message. This time tm buddy did not identify anything. ( these are all night backups cause they take about 4 - 5 hrs on my machine) After getting the error message, Time Machine would still continue hourly backups and the Genius bar used that as evidence it was working.
I was wondering if the discussion community agrees with that. and if they dont ask if they had other suggestions.

Hi I have the old photo shop elements 10 on my computer and want to update and was wondering what the differences between photoshop, lightroom and photoshop elements are?
Also when I upgrade does it have to be with a monthly membership or can I just purchase the product out right like you use to be able?

You cannot "update" from what you have to any of the applications you mention. It will have to be a straight purchase or subscription at full price.
Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Lightroom is all about volume, and very light editing.

  • Is there a difference in Photomerge between CC and Elements?

Hello! I have a quick product question - I have been using Lightroom for some time now and am very comfortable with the workflow I have going. I shoot quite a bit of film, and recently have been "scanning" my 6x6 negatives with my DSLR and a macro lens. I downloaded a trial of Elements 13 to see how the Photomerge option works. Long story short, it works great. Now I am curious if there are any differences between the Photomerge option in Photoshop CC vs Photoshop Elements 13. The only difference I can come up with is that the CC Photomerge has an option directly from Lightroom and Elements does not (merge to Panorama still greyed out with Elements installed). Thank you for your great products, and I truly appreciate your insight.

Most people either use one app or the other, and have very limited knowledge of the one they don't use.  But from what I can find from a quick look round the web, they seem to be the same.
