Colour Finesse in Premiere?

Hi - I'd like to get Synthetic Aperture set up to work in Premiere Pro - it'll save having to open clips in After Effects just to do the colour correcting, meaning that at the end of a project almost all the clips on the timeline are after effects linked comps.
The thing is that I 've tried to find it on the discs and can't, how can I install it after the fact? (main suite installation)
Is the only way to download a trial and then install that?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advance
Billy

The version of CF that ships with AE will only work in AE.  You can see
the results in Pr via Dynamic Link, but you can't use that version of CF
directly in Pr.
If you want to use CF in Pr, then you'll have to visit the Synthetic
Aperture web site and buy a license for the Pr version.

  • Missing Serial number for colour Finesse

I have a registered version of Adobe after effects CS5 which was a gift but I cannot find the the serial number for Colour Finesse. I use the programme on a windows system.

As Szalam says, it should be on a sticker on the DVD case.
In fact, there will be two Color Finesse stickers. Be sure to use the serial number starting with "CFLEP30".
There is more info on finding your serial number in this Knowledge Base article on our website.

  • Color Finesse in Premiere Pro?

In the November Issue of Sound on Sound Magazine Mark Butler did a review of CS5 Production Premium, and states the following:
"The version bundled with After Effects is Color Finesse 3 LE, and it can also be used directly in Premiere Pro if you like."
How can I do this? I cant find CF in the effects bin or anything and its not that ideal to use Dynamic Link if you want to go back and modify your cuts..

    Thanks Colin!

  • Color Finesse for Premiere CS6

Enjoying Color Finesse in AE but would like to use the Premiere version.  I have downloaded the program from the website but it requires a serial number to active in Premiere.  It is my understanding that this serial number comes with my purchase of CS6 however I cannot find that serial.  Am I mistaken?  If not where would I locate the serial?
    Thanks,
    Danny

Thanks for the reply!  I am acutally serialized in AE and had been working in CF within it.  When I mentioned the downloaded program I was refering to the Pi version that allows you to work right within PP instead of taking each clip out to AE and then back in to PP.  I am going to assume that the Pi version does not come with my CS6 purchase.
The video you attached gave mentioned a great idea about importing your entire sequence into AE instead of a clip by clip workflow.  GREAT RESOURCE and thank you for pointing that out to me.
One last question, the reason I started thinking about using CF in PP instead of AE is because to dial in skin tone I always like to place a four point garbage matte on my frame and mask out everything except for a bit of skin.  This allows me to look on the vectorscope and see precisly what the skin tone is within the frame.  As far as I can tell CF does not have this fuction.  The only work around I have found is to exit out of CF into AE then Precomp the clip I am working with put a mask around the skin and then go back into CF from the precomped layer to adjust precisly.  As you can image this can be time consuming and a bit of a pain.  Do you know of a good work around for this?  Once again the video you provided made a subtle suggestion about secondary color and adjust the luma range to put only skin tone within your mids and correct accordingly, A good idea and I will be sure to try that out.  However, if there is a simple way to mask a frame within CF I would be very intersted in knowing how?
    Thanks again.

  • Why does the colour on my Premiere Pro clip change when I add a title to it in After Effects?

I applied some colour effects to a clip I was working on in Adobe Premiere Pro, but when I replace the composition of the clip with an Affter Effects composition and simply add a title over the video, it saves the clip with a slightly different colour. It doesn't seem to be removing the colour effect that I added to it, just altering it. Any ideas as to what may be happening, and how I can keep the colour consistent? Thanks a mil!

Just a guess about something to look at - check the color settings in your After Effects project.  If you increase the bit depth to 16 or 32 bits per channel and check your color management settings, you may have a better result.  I'm a bit clueless about the various options under Color Settings, but maybe you will hit upon something that works.

  • Colour Correction in Premiere CS4

I am a teacher from Australia and I'm editing a film at the moment. The footage has been shot on a set that has since been dismantled (so we can't re-shoot anything). The majority of the shots look good, but some are over-cooked (as a result of using too much lighting) and some are too dark (as a result of not using enough). Below I have listed a normal looking shot, a washed out shot, and a dark shot. My aim is to try and get the colours in the bottom two images to match the colours in the top one,
I have been using colour correction, brightness/contrast and rgb curves in premiere to try and fix the problem, but I'm not having much luck. I know I won't get them all looking exactly the same, but if anyone can give me some pointers as to how I could get the bottom two shots looking close to the first one (in terms of the colours and brightness), I'd greatly appreciate it. My students are asking me these questions and I don't know what to tell them!
    1. Normal shot (how I want all the footage to look):
    2. Washed out shot:
    3. Dark shot (this was obviously shot in front of a green screen, but I want to make the skin and jumper tones look the same as the first shot).

    Hey robodog2 and Ann
Thanks for getting back to me so swiftly. The both of you have been so useful. You make quite a team! I used the steps that you suggested, robodog, in the right order, and I also used the three way colour corrector, thanks to that nifty little video link that you sent, Ann. I have posted my results below.
    Before:
    After:
    Before:
    After:
On the second image (the washed out one) I ended up only using the three way colour corrector and brightness/contrast. I changed the background blue and the skin tone, to be a little less yellow.I ended up leaving the jumper, because it was bright enough.
I'd like to list you both in the thank you section of the video, if that's alright (by your user names).
    Cheers!
    -Linus
P.S. I also used dust and scratches on the green screen shot, and it really smoothed out the graininess. The unsharp effect didn't really seem to work for me, at high or low values. Oh, and in regards to the indexed colour/jpeg issue, I don't have photoshop on this computer and I wasn't sure how to export from Premiere as a jpeg and non-indexed colour.

Hi, how can I make titles with coloured schadows in premiere elements????????

    narrowcaster47
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
Are you looking for text whose fill is a 4- color gradient instead of a solid color. Or something else, like text whose fill is a still or video?
Answers are in the details. So, please, more details so I can fine tune a reply to your question.
    Thank you.

  • Custom UI on Premiere problems.

I've got some custom-UI problems on Premiere CS3:
    1) How do I get the ECP background colour, so I can clear a section to it?
PF_AppGetColor() succeeds but doesn't actually return a colour for any of the colour types. (if Premiere at least cleared to the panel colour I'd be fine, but it clears to black - why?).
    2) How can I draw a custom UI without a topic? (many of Premiere's effects do this). PF_PUI_TOPIC doesn't seem to be supported.
    3) How can I dynamically resize my UI's rectangle, to scale it as the user adjusts the ECP width (like many of Premiere's effects do)?

  • Best workflow for colour grading in CS5.5

What is the best workflow for colour grading in Premiere Pro CS5.5? I don't like the 3 way colour grader in Premire I like to use Levels and Curves, so I normaly use Color Finese 3 LE in After Effects but it's hard to export an entire timeline to AE due to it not improting transitions and title text correctly.
I see in CS6 there is now Speed Grade available from Premiere Pro. can you export your entire timeline into Speed grade and it retain your titles and trasitions?
So how are most folks colour grading their finished timelines in Premire Pro?
    Kevin

If I can CC in Pr, I will. What prevents me from staying in Pr is if I need to do a lot of masking, secondary type corrections.  Ae is better for that, IMO.
I guess my general rule is, "The more love I need to put on my footage, the more likely it is I'll need to take the project to Ae."
When I do CC in Pr, my tools of choice are RGB Curves (which is CUDA friendly, and I have a CUDA card) for CC, and I use Three-Way or Fast CC mostly for increasing saturation.  I leave the other controls alone.
The advantage to doing CC in Pr, is the CUDA accelleration.  If you use CUDA effects, you can work a lot faster, due to less rendering.  Once you go to Ae, you lose CUDA, but you gain flexibility.  Therefore, there's not a single one-size-fits-all answer.
I also have a lot more available plugs in Ae.  I like Frischluft Curves, which is an oustanding curves based plug.  And the native Hue/Saturation effect in Ae is extremely useful for single hue corrections.  Pr doesn't have a similar native effect.
And then as a last step, after getting all my corrections "evened out," I'll add Magic Bullet Looks to an adjustment layer for an overall treatment.
I only opened SpeedGrade once after installing it.  I don't see why anybody would use it, unless they were already familiar with it.  You can't go back to Pr easily.  And in my world, projects are rarely finished.  Clients think they can make massive changes at any stage of post, even after mastering and delivery.  I've had clients make changes to spots after they've been airing for several days.  I laugh at editors who name anything "final."

  • Premiere Pro CS3 then After Effects CS3 for Color Correction?

    Hello All,
I'm at a bit of a loss here, it seems like it's a no brainer to be able to do this. I'm trying to edit my film in Premiere and then use After Effects to do color correction using Color Finesse 2. But there doesn't seem to be ANY way to keep a project so you can continue to edit in premiere while you also keep all your color correction??
You can do color correction in AE and export a premiere project but premiere won't recognize the Color Finesse Filter so you lose all you color correction!
Or I can edit the whole project in premiere and open it in after effects to do color correction, but then if there is a single edit change that needs to be done in premiere again i've once again lost my Color Correction to bring it back.
Is this really the case that I can't use these expensive packages together this way? It seems like there has to be a solution! If Adobe just made it so Premiere kept the "links" to your filters in the project, instead of killing an unrecognizable one. Then when you opened it back in after effects after your edit your Color Correction would still be there.
    Any one have any advice?
    Thanks,
    -Ethan

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, all good ideas.
Aanarav, Your idea to just get Color Finesse for premiere I suppose I could do. It's $545 which isn't exactly pocket change, but it would probably be worth it, if there is another way other than breaking the bank book for software I already own i'd like to try to get away with it.
    Steven Gotz
Dynamic link is unfortunately a feature only of the production studio package which is like $1100 upgrade from what I have...so that's kinda out of the question for me.
    Jon Sands
Great idea here. I really thought it might work since premiere seems to use what are called after effects plugin files too. But after copying and pasting for a while it doesn't look like it actually sees it as a plugin anywhere I paste it. :( If anyone knows of a way to get that to work I would be seriously grateful!
I guess it sounds like the only way out is to spend cash, sigh such is so often the case is seems.

  • In After Effects when I use the Color Finesse 3, A grid appears in the display window. How do I turn that off?

When I click on Affects, then Synthetic Aperture, then SA Color Finesse 3 in the Creative Cloud a grid appears over the video in the display window, and I am un sure how to take that off?

Color Finesse 3 LE is included with After Effects and is installed automatically when After Effects is installed. The only reason to upgrade to the paid version is if you want to use Color Finesse in Premiere Pro as well as in After Effects.
Since it's a college computer, do you have the ability to install/uninstall software? Many colleges lock down the computers to limit such access. You'll need full access, including an admin password, to use the following steps. If you're not allowed the necessary access, you can pass the following along to whoever does computer administration.
To remove the trial version, delete the entire "Synthetic Aperture" folder found in:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore
(Note that this is the Library folder at the base of your boot drive, not the one in your home folder.)
Next, re-enable the bundled version of Color Finesse by going to the following folder:
    /Applications/Adobe/Adobe After Effects CC/Support Files/Plug-ins/Effects/Synthetic Aperture
Now, within that "Synthetic Aperture" folder you'll find a plug-in with parentheses around the name:
    (SA Color Finesse 3 AE64)
Remove the parentheses from the filename so AE will see it. Do NOT remove the parentheses from the "(CF3 Support)" folder or AE will launch very, very slowly, and Color Finesse won't work right.
Finally, within the "(CF3 Support)" folder, locate the "(SA Color Finesse 3 UI)" application and remove the parentheses.
Launch AE, apply Color Finesse to a layer, enter a name, and you should be good to go with no grid lines.

  • Letterbox bars change colour with camera angle

I published a DVD through Encore, from MPEG-2 DVD footage exported from Premiere using Premiere's preset; the footage is of a live event which used two very similar HD sony camcorders (footage was shot in 1440x1080 HD). On my own widescreen TV the result looked good, and filled up the whole TV (no letterboxing). But on a slightly older widescreen TV the DVD played with the bars at the top. This in itself is no issue, except that with one camera angle the bars are black, and with the other they are sometimes varying shades of gray.
The only explanation I could think of is that I subjected the footage to a lot of (quite necessary) colour correction in Premiere. However, both cameras' footage received this, and in any case it is not as though the bars were part of the video I was exporting or applying effects to. I know certain TVs sometimes have gray bars instead of black; but for this one the gray bars are sometimes light gray, sometimes dark gray, and sometimes black (such that both cameras have black bars sometimes).
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Most likely the second TV has some kind of Dynamic Iris which adjusts black level based on the content on screen at the moment.
    Turn that off.

  • FCP 5 and color finesse

I am trying to install the color finesse plug in into my FCP 5. I have updated FCP to 5.0.3 and have downloaded the correct Color Finesse instaler for FCP.
Colour Finesse does not come up in the video filters list, once installed
My problem I think is the Color Finesse installer routine asks me to install it to the "plug in" directory, what is FCP 5's plug in directory called?. I can't find one in the applications folder for FCP, other programs such as AEffects have them. Do i just let color finesse install to the applications directory and it should work? , this is what i have done and it did'nt work. Do I have to do anything in FCP intself post instalation to enable this plug in.
    I am using OSX 10.3.9.
    cheers

As noted in the other replies:
    - Make sure you're using the installer for FCP and not AE. The AE plug-in will crash FCP.
    - Quit FCP before installing Color Finesse.
    - When the installer asks, point it to "/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins".
    - When the installer exits, start FCP. Color Finesse will appear in the Effects > Video Filters > Synthetic Aperture menu.
    - To apply Color Finesse, double-click a clip to load it into the Viewer. Select Color Finesse from the Effects menu. Go to the Filters tab. You should see the Color Finesse logo and a "Setup" button to its right. If you don't see the button, widen the column until you do. Click the Setup button to launch the Color Finesse UI.
If your setup doesn't work after installation, check for the following on your hard drive:
    - In the "/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins" folder there should be a Synthetic Aperture folder containing "SA Color Finesse Plug-In".
    - In the "/Library/Application Support" folder there should be a Synthetic Aperture folder containing, among other things, "SA Color Finesse UI".
You can manually move the Synthetic Aperture folders around if they were installed in the wrong location.
That's about all I can think of for installation issues. You can always reach our tech support department via support at synthetic-ap dot com.

  • 'Out Of Memory' issue and over large Project File...

Hi everyone, my issue is a common one but yet to find out reasons why after trying many suggestions.
I am working in Final Cut Pro 6 on an edit 35 minutes long. It's a holiday video edit of a snowboarding trip filmed on GoPro HD and a small handy Sony Handycam. All rushes are transcoded to ProRess 422. I have cut the edit and doing the final touches with the colour using Synthetic Appertures Color Finesse 3. My project file starts off at a mere 17MB before colour grading/correction from what I can tell seems pretty normal. By the time I get to around half way my Project ile has increased greatly to over 70MB, FCP becomes slow and unstable then I start to get crashes and reloads of the project take around 15 minutes or more to open. This seems quite a jump to me once grading starts?
Originally I did have around 6 sequences of footage (one for each day of shooting on holiday) where each contained all the usable clips I could possibly use for the edit. Then a Master sequence where I would paste my desired clips to for trimming and editing to music. (all music in AIFF)
I have deleted all folders in the browser that arent in use now and the only sequence I have now is the master, nothing else at all! No Motion graphics but some text at the start of the edit, nothing animated. No stills, but I do have some freeze frames but I'd say no maore than 20 over the whole 35 minutes. I have deleted unused render files and trashed preferences.
I did see somewhere that someone suggested splitting the edit in to two different projects? There wasnt a clear explanation of this.
    I'm running....
    iMac 24 inch - early 2009
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1067 DDR3
    NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB
    OS X10.8.2
Hope this is all you need to help me get this edit completed and exported off. Any more info you need just ask!
    Thanks in advance.
    GK

    Hi Nick
I have already successfully rendered 20 minutes of the project with no issues. As the project file has increased it has become troublesome. Beach balling when pasting the colour finesse attributes to my next clip for instance.
When I attempt to render now its instantly fails with a "Out Of Memory" error and eventually crashes FCP.
    Thanks.

  • Running low on memory

I have recently built my own desktop.
    Specs:
    nVidia GTX 760
    i7-4770k
    16gb Crucial Ballistix Sport Ram
I use after effects and photoshop in a pretty undemanding way (the most demanding thing I do is rotoscoping). However, when using premier pro (as well as after effects and media encoder) I keep getting this error message:
It sometimes happens when rendering my timeline, and almost always happens when I try to export. I'm editing 1080p 72mbps footage, with minor colour correction using premiere's native tools and a clip or two with 5-10 seconds of light rotoscoping and blur (dynamically linked with after effects).
As far as I'm aware I shouldn't be experience memory issues?
Any thoughts on this, and how to identify the problem?

    In Windows ...
Control Panel -> System -> Performance Information & Tools -> Advanced Tools -> Adjust the Appearance & performance of Windows -> Advanced tab -> Virtual Memory and click "change".
Windows normally sets a "system managed size" which jumps up and sometimes down, and can at times be quite larger than needed or ... less than needed.
One of the recommendations that's been used a lot is use a "Custom" size setting, set an initial size roughly equal to your RAM and then a max maybe 4 times that. You can also choose which drive/drives to use. It's better to use a fast drive & connection, as these are read AND write files remember ... stuff that oft needs quick access. On my old computer I had this on an SSD that was my cache/pagefile drive; on the one I've got now, with a pair of 240Gb SSD's in RAID 0 for system, I've got both room & speed there for them ... and I use a 120Gb SSD for all video app cache/preview files.
I've just purchased a PNY 128Gb US3 flash-drive (was less the $40) for trying for media files in a working project, as someone else here noted. Spreading out my "stuff" on as many buses as possible, and as the media files is ONLY a read situation, USB3 should be adequate. While looking this up, I found that several people who have only a few discs on their machine who used these as their pagefile locations for Windows and found a bit better operations.
Again, that Tweaker's Page has a LOT of info on this sort of thing ...
