Colour gray black background

I know how to do to have the background in the window openings black and not dark gray, is it possiblle?
Thanks a lot!
Enrico

Excellent point, too often overlooked.
Fwiw, I like to use an immediately-perceivable difference in background luminance between the Viewer and the Browser so I can tell at a glance whether I am in a Browser or in a Viewer with many Images selected.
All true grays are neutral in hue (that's the definition of "gray") -- which makes me wonder:  what does "neutral density" imply?  According to the Wikipedia article, "neutral" refers to having the same effect on luminance while leaving hue unchanged.  As such, "neutral seems to be a modifier of "filter" and not of "density".
I was under the impression the 18% is the standard luminance for half-way between the normally experienced extremes of "dark" and "light".  I have always wanted to confirm this -- I settled on what I use above from trial and error (Viewer at 18%, Browser at 45%).  According to this Wikipedia article, middle gray, also called "18% gray", is equivalent to c. 46% luminance in the sRGB color space.  So for most users, setting the Viewer and Browser backgrounds to 46% (on a hardware calibrated display with fixed luminance settings) should give them the best perceptual results across a broad range of Images.  Agree?  Thoughts?
Next time I calibrate my displays I might measured the Aperture Viewer and Browser backgrounds after calibration.  I'm still confused about the difference in the scales used for "18%" gray (18% of what?) and the sRGB gray of 46% (of what?).

  • Lenovo Y50-70 UHD display - Gray dots on black background colour just appeared suddenly

    Hi support technicians and assistants. 1 month ago 2 gray dots just appeared suddenly on my UHD display on the Lenovo Y50-70. Those can be seen only on black background. The dots are 3 mm long and 2 mm wide and the other one it's smaller. What can I do to fix those? They are very disturbing when I do something on black background! Thank you. If needed I can send pictures.

    There are many gray pixels, visible on black background, in that 2 faulty areas because it is a UHD display. A 3 by 2 mm area means many pixels not only a few and there are 2 small areas like this one. I will try the recommandations and return a reply. Thank you.neokenchi wrote:
    hi RomulusDaniel, From your description, it looks like you have a stuck pixel. Try to use a software like jscreenfix to fix it. Other methods requires you to put a pressure on the LCD screen (like in this wiki article). If you have a 3mm, 2mm, and a smaller dead pixel (total of 3), then I recommend you contact lenovo and report your findings. Lenovo Warranty Policy on Dead Pixel / Bad Pixel / Defective Pixel (In warranty)  Regards

    Someone else in the forum told me how to do this.  If you have Onyx on your system then select Parameters, iTunes and turn off high contrast mode.  If you don't have Onyx, I'd suggest getting it.  It is freeware and used to help maintain your system.  Good luck

  • [Desktop][Other] Gray scrollbar on black background

    This is in regards to the Windows desktop app: Who thought it was a good a idea to have a gray scroll bar on a black background. You can barely see the thing. It's pretty ridiculous actually. Change the color to white

  • Im having a problem with my iphoto library.  all of photos are outlines in gray with black background.

    My iphoto library appears as white dotted outlines and black background.  I can only see the photos if i am scrolling?

    Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
    4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    5 - Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Black background in Acrobat 9?

    Hi, I've just tested the Acrobat 9 _Reader_ The black background (compared to the gray one in Acrobat 9) is _horrible_. (Much too contrast compared to the white sheet.)
    Is this black also in Acrobat 9? Is in Acrobat 9 any chance to change it?
    Thanks!

    Just installed 9.0, having this same problem with the horrible black background.
    Why haven't they included such a siple option as changing the background color.
    I noticed that it is possible to change it in fullscreen mode, which i hardly ever use, as graphic designer i ike to see and check my documents at 100% size.

    ANy ideas?

    Click on the % above the Canvas and Viewer and then select FIT TO WINDOW. If the gray is still there, manually resize the window to get rid of it.
    It has always been gray.

  • MS Word (Mac) to Acrobat Pro XI pdf loses black background during the conversion.

    I need to email a PDF with an all black background (white text on black background).  But my MacBook Pro with MS Office 2011 creates an Adobe Acrobat Pro XI document (Using PRINT menu to Adobe Acrobat) in which the background is not black, but gray.  Doesn't matter what resolution I pick, always the same result.  Is there a way to fix this problem?

    Hello,
    No, there is no change in behaviour on my Windows XP machines, nor would I expect there to be given that there has been no change until V11.0.3 was released.
    Given that you’ve reproduced the problem, albeit on a different machine, it seems reasonable to assume that the problem is related to Acrobat. If you can reproduce the behaviour, then you should be able to fix it.
    The problem still exists with V11.0.3. I look forward to it being resolved shortly.
    Colin.

  • Bright White Pixel on LCD - But NOT Visible on Black Background

    Hi All,
    Just noticed today on my macbook pro (Early 08 - july manufacture) that a small white spot has appeared. Not the blobby large spots that were common lcd problems before on older models, but almost a pinprick of a white spot.
    Now its not a dead pixel, since its not black, and its not a stuck pixel, since it has no definite visible colour, also, it is NOT visible on a black background (is this due to the way LED backlights work???) so i dont think its a HOT pixel exactly...it is most visible on plain white backgound - but on any colour R/B/G it is visible as a spot that is brighter than the other area around.
    ...so...what is it, how can i find out what it is? and might warranty help (presumably for one pixel = no)?
    What might i try? Anyone else have experience of this? Every other forum post forum either talks about: 1) dead pixel that si ALWAYS black 2) Pixel that is always white but even on black background 3) coloured pixel - none of which i have exactly, my white pixel is NOT at all visible on black background.

    Hi:
    I just want to tell you that my Macbook Pro is the same as yours, at it presents that small white spots problem.
    In fact, let me tell you all, that those are not dead or stuck pixels, is a problem on the LCD itself, the pixels on that spots are lighter than the other pixels, that's why they look white, but they are not white. They are a lighter color than the other pixels. But again, those are not pixels, in fact they are a group of pixels, from 6 to 13 pixels eash one. Also you can notice like hairlines with the same issue.
    My white spots are on the left side of the screen, y 4 of them.
    Also, my screen haves particles inside.
    I will take my laptop to the apple service senter, and it doesn't matter what they say, they will have to exchange my screen.

  • Black background affect letters on top

    Hi folks,
    Still a rookie I am, using Ai (CS6).
    I've produced a poster I'm fairly happy with, but black background is affecting red and green type on top of the black...
    Possibly one hint towards a solution is that I have one photo with a transparency and the lettering that is on top of that transparency isn't affected by the black background.
    The transparency was started by creating a cut-out of a mugshot in Ps CS6, using the magnetic tool, previously creating a transparent background layer.
    Anyway, the long and the short is, if a tiff photo transparent background can keep out the black background, how can I create a transparent layer with similar properties?
    Many thanks

    You can actaully use a copy of the photo to create the transapranecy on another object. Selct teh opbject and the phot on top, then tranparanecy palette >> Make opacity mask, what is is white in the photo will show, what is black will be transparaent, gray wil be semitransparent accordingly.
    You can use invert mask to invert the white/black results.
    Without a ascreenshto thsi si the best advice I acn give, you can edit your original photo in phothsop to make a grayscale version for making purposes.

  • Black background when scaling images with transparent background

    I am implementing Zooming functionality for reports which have some icons. I am trying to scale icon by scaling its image. But the problem I am facing is that the icons have transparent background and the scaling puts a black background in place of transparent. Is there any way to maintain its transparency or better yet, Is there anyway to put a white backgound instead of the black one that is created by default ? Here is my code
         public static Icon getScaledIcon(Icon icon){
             if(icon instanceof ImageIcon){
                  Image outImage = ((ImageIcon)icon).getImage();
                      return new ImageIcon(getScaledImage(outImage));
             }else{
                  Image outImage = new BufferedImage(icon.getIconWidth(),
                            icon.getIconHeight(),
                            BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB);
                    JComponent comp = new JComponent(){};
                    icon.paintIcon(comp, outImage.getGraphics(), 0, 0);
                    return new ImageIcon(getScaledImage(outImage));
        public static Image getScaledImage(Image image){
             image = image.getScaledInstance((int)(image.getWidth(null) * getScale()),
                           (int)(image.getHeight(null) * getScale()), Image.SCALE_SMOOTH);
            return image;
        }I haven't done much image manipulation , so I would really appreciate any help or advice.

    I have also not done much of image work. But I guess you could achieve your functionality of showing scaled image in the screen by not scaling the image and show it, instead scale the image in paint method by calling g.drawImage giving the height and width. But use high resolution images so that scaling is good.
    If you do in this manner, you could give any colour you want as background to fill the transparent area or leave it as such.
    Regards,
    techece.
