  • Save spot colours in Photoshop for import to Indesign

I'm having problems in Indesign due to using drop shadows in some graphics which are over an image with transparencies. What I think would solve the problem is to remove the transparencies in the image using photoshop and then use that. However, the image has spot colours which is giving me headaches. I haven't found a way of importing the spot colours directly into photoshop from illustrator or whatever - they always seem to get converted to CMYK. However, I have managed to recreate the spot colour in Photoshop as a channel - so the file is CYMK+1spot channel. However, when I try to import the psd file into Indesign I get an error message "The file uses an unsupported colour space...". I have tried exporting as eps but that didn't work either. I have seen various help messages which seem to imply that you can import spot colours from photoshop - can someone suggest what I am doing wrong ? I use CS5.

Besides saclint the image up, which reduces the "effective" resolution, do you have your display performance in ID set to High Quality Display? You are not looking at actual pixels in ID, just a jpeg preview, and that will also make a difference, and any edges which are not truly horizontal or vertical will always have some sort of stair-stepping in a pixel-based of the pixels to approximate the line, and this can become more noticeable whn you zoom in or when you scale upwards.

  • Colour loss when exporting jpeg from Aperture 2.1

I'm having a problem with colour loss in images i'm trying to export to a website. These are jpegs that have been worked on as RAW in Aperture, when exported to desktop and viewed in preview there is no colour loss at all, but when viewed on the site the colour saturation seems very dull and lack lustre - any ideas?? I have checked all the export presets (been going through all the posts to see if i could pickup anyone else finding the same) and they are all at the same settings. Thanks

Go to the tools menu and then assign profile. Choose the display profile that your monitor is using. This will effectively stop preview from doing any translation to your monitor. See if this matches what you are seeing when you upload to the web. If it does then somewhere in your upload, process, web server chain the profile is being removed from the jpg or the browser you are using ignores color profiles (most windows browsers ignore image color profiles, that's why adobeRGB profile images look like crap to most windows users when viewed in Explorer)
Ps if this is the case nothing is wrong you are just getting a preview of how most windows users will see your image on the web. Adjust to taste.

  • How to correctly use spot colours in Photoshop?

    Hi,
Using CS2, I've created one of those swooshy Macintosh Panther wallpaper images, with various layers of sweeping lines and tinted gradient arcs.
Now I want to create the image using just tints of pantone 519 but I'm unsure of how to work with pantone colours in photoshop. I've pulled up the solid coated pantone library and located the swatch, but how do I specify various tints of this colour?
I've searched the forum and come across spot channels, and have read the photoshop help entry on this, but still can't understand how to do it. From what I've read, I make a selection, then create a spot channel of the colour and set the solidity to 100%. If I want an 80% tint, I just adjust the solidity to 80%. Is this correct, or is the solidity more like transparency than tint?
In addition, how do I create a gradient between these two colours?
Final question - I have an element I want to import from Illustrator that uses the same spot colour. Do I have to deal with this any differently to the normal copy and paste as a smart object?
Sorry, I'm sure this is really quite easy.
    Thanks for any help.
    Steven

Why not just mode grayscale (or better yet a black and white adjustment layer, then mode grayscale), adjust levels, new spot channel, move dot from gray channel to spot channel? If it was made in RGB 519, your green channel is probably best to make the move to grayscale. If you're working in CMYK, then the magenta channel (unless of course you're using pictures with UCR/GCR).
    <br />
<br />I guess I don't understand how you can say "I'll set it up best in CMYK" but can't get it to one color.
    <br />
<br />Here's the tut version using the green channel only. If you do some channel mixing, I'm sure you could get something a little nicer.

  • Is there any way to change the background colour in Photoshop Elements 8?.

Is there any way to change the background colour in Photoshop Elements 8?  There are two options offered in General Preferences, Appearance Options - Dark Grey or Light Grey - but even the Light Grey is much darker than that in Photoshop CS2.  I would like to make the background much lighter.  All advice will be appreciated.

    Thanks for your comments.
I have seen that the background can be changed in PSE7 by using a slider in Preferences- General;  I don't understand why Adobe didn't keep that facility.

  • Colour loss on Render

    Dear Sirs/Madames,
When rendering a film which is comprised completely of QuickTime Movies 960 x 540(Codec: Integer(Little Endian)Timecode, Apple Intermediate Codec), I'm finding that colour corrections to text are losing their saturation and strength. I have the Render / Sequence Settings / Quicktime Video Settings at Apple Intermediate Codec as the compressor. The Video Processing is at Always Render in RGB. In Audio/Video Settings the Sequence Preset I discovered has been set to DV PAL 48khz as has the Capture Preset. Is this why I'm losing colour quality when rendering? There seemes to be no Sequence Preset at the same size as the QT clips I imported. And would this all be the reason for colour loss anyway? Simply can't figure it out. Hot pink goes to a sort pink/grey. Boooo.
Any ideas would be greatly welcomed and appreciated.
    Thanks, Stretch.

Ah....forget to mention I'm also using Light Rays effect on the text.......not sure if that might make a diference.

  • Mini-DVi to VGA colour loss?

I am in the process of buying a Mini-DVi to VGA connector, but have been told, by an Apple Store in Korea, that the connector isn't very good and that it has colour problems. Loss of colour and colour mismatching. Has anybody had these problems and if so, is there a way around it?
    Thanks Guys.

I don't know about color mismatching (I have an old Studio Display CRT hooked up to my iMac for extra real estate, so the color and brightness differences between the CRT and LCD are very noticeable), but I have the full palette of colors; I think the biggest concern that I have read about (see the reviews on the Apple store site) has been its sturdiness, with many ceasing to function after months of use.
I must say, however, that mine has been working fine since July (knock wood), as did my mini-VGA to VGA connector from Apple to hook my old eMac up to the 17" CRT.
To my thinking, for a little less than $20, it's not a bad gamble.

  • When using Adobe Colour in Photoshop, Why can I not pick out colours from an image open and first up in Photoshop?

Am I doing something wrong?  Seems like it should be a no brainer, click for the color dropper and pick up a color.. seems I'm the one with the no brain thought because for the life of me it will not work. Then I would always go to colour Lovers and just upload my image and take the readings and put my theme together there.

  • Having trouble 'replacing colour' in Photoshop Elements 12 + help does not work?

I was trying to use the 'replace colour' function as found by going :-
    Enhance >
    Adjust Colour >
    Replace Colour
Not knowing how it worked, I tried the context sensitive help in light blue. 'Learn More About'
This would not load but gave me this response:-
    Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://helpx.stage.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/adjusting-color-saturation-hue-vibra nce.html" on this server.
    Reference #18.6d011002.1389010855.24c28f95
This 'help' seems to work everywhere else [well at least in the places I have tried so far.]
So why is this? has anyone else had this specific area of HELP fail?  I need to know is it just my system, is it accessing this HELP stuff over the net, or is it preloaded when you by the retail pack?
Course it would be in an area I can not make work!
Note Other areas of help in this general menu area work eg
i.e. the options either side of this all work fine.
    Any views guidance welcome.
Other than reload the product! LOL I just don't have a spare week to waste getting it all going again!

    Hi Nealeh
Thanks i think I got it working of a fashion.
Except the replace colour, does not seem to end up with the colour I picked using the picker tool. Its as though it hads not replaced the colour but blended in the desired colour with the old incorrect colour!
Buy trial and error picking not the right colour but close - which when mixed with the existing colour is close.
Sorry I can't post the pictures as the Lingerie Mfg, has me under non disclosure.
The scenario is:-  say a blonded mainly tanned model a high cut [at the hips] corsette style basque, with an ultra low bra line.
Our dear model, has just come back from St Barts with a fabulous Tan, and equally striking bold Tan lines!.
So we have great tanned legs, then the 'porcelain white band' where her swimsuit was.
Likewise we have a tanned face, and arms, shoulders etc and a great tan on the top of the cleavage, then it stops, white band to the top of the ultralow cut bra line of the basque.
She must have lived in like the most conservative bikini on the planet [50's style], for 2 weeks!
Had she had a normal skimpy bikini on, no problem!
If i don't solve it, she will get fired!
Not a lack of interest in your post, but I was out, and tried to log in to this site; which I could do, on my iPad Air / 5 [whatever its the new one]. And tried to 'sign in' - but it just hung at the

  • Colours in Photoshop CS3/Bridge - Windows

After editing images in Photoshop CS3 (using a calibrated Eizo monitor S2231W) and viewing them in Bridge (whether PSD or JPG) in the presentation modus, the colours change a bit and become oversaturated when I change the presentation from "fit in" to 100%(by scrolling the mouse wheel). The same oversaturated colours appear also in other Windows viewers (e.g. Magix, irfanview). Of course I can use a different custom preset on the monitor when viewing the images on the monitor and reduce the saturation there, but the colour change will remain. So how can I see in Photoshop when editing and be sure what the colours will be like in a Windows presentation?
(PS- changing the colour settings in Photoshop did not help)
Thank you for helping! - Jochen

I'm using this image found in the windows sample pictures "Annie in the Sink.jpg"
as an example because it's small. If you use this action on camera size images,
your system can really slow down.
(click on the screenshots below for clearer views)
    1. Run the Vectorize Web Graphic part of the action. (i just left the gaussian blur
       at the default setting)
    2. Use a combination of adjusting the threshold adjustment layer and painting
on the Dodge and Burn layer to get the black areas to cover the part of image
you want. The black areas are the areas that will be included in the paths and
white areas are exclued from the paths.
    3. Paint on the Dodge and Burn layer with the regular paint brush tool, not the dodge
and burn tools. Painting with white removes the areas to be included in the paths
and painting with black adds to the areas included in the paths. Set the default
foreground and background (black and white) colors at the bottom of the toolbox by
pressing the D key on the keyboard.
    4. You might have to stack the Dodge and Burn layers to get the results your after.
    5. Run the Make Path from Image part of the action.
Final path and still kinda rough photoshop result and after copying the
path to a new RGB color document and adding a color fill adjustment layer.
If you have a recent version of illustrator, then you might try the Live Trace instead of this action.
The tracing features in recent versions of illustrator are so much better than when this action was written.
Added: it helps to duplicate your image before running any of the actions so you
have a reference while painting on the dodge and burn layer(s).

  • Pantone  336 colours in Photoshop...

    Hi,
I'm trying to turn a CMYK image into a duotone image. Specifically Black and Pantone 2291C.
Pantone 2291 is from the +336 books and for some reason I can't find it when I search the colour libraries in Photoshop.
I haven't had this problem in Illustrator or InDesign.
    Would appreciate some help!
    Cheers

It could be one of two things.
    1. It could be that Photoshop renders things on your screen using different protocols. To check this, use the Information window to read the numerical color values as you hover over an area. If the numbers are the same in both programs, then it's just the way the program is rendering your image and they're actually the same color (they just look different on your screen).
    2. You could be using a different color profile for each program. This will come up as different numbers for the same area.

  • Counting colours in photoshop?

    Hi,
I am have created a grid in photoshop consisting of about 60 colours and I need an exact value for the number of squares assigned to each colour. The reason for this? I am making a rug and need to calculate how much wool I need to complete it! However, the histogram->pixel count route is not working for me (o how I've tried!) as I have used a mosaic filter on the image already. Therefore, the squares I am highlighting with the magic wand tool do not count for one pixel each...does this make sense? and if it does..is there any way around this without me going nutty and having to count the entire image by eye!
    Please save my sanity!
    Thanks

Well the histogram pixel count should work. Assuming you have regular shaped areas. I took a photo and put a 45 pixel mosaic onto it. Then when I select one square it is 45x45=2025 pixels and when there were two squares of the same color the histogram showed 4050 pixels.
So you just need to total them up and divide by whatever a single square has.
    Just a little math....

  • Differences in colours between Photoshop and Bridge

I have a question that have puzzled me for a while. There's some differences between the colours in bridge and in photoshop. When they're previewed in Bridge it has nice warm and sligtly desaturated feel to it. When i open the RAW file in Photoshop it gets much pale and red. Why is that? The same thing happens when i shoot the picture and the first preview shows the warm and desaturated version, but when i see the picture again it's back to the pale and red version. Same thing happens, when i open it in Ligthroom. When i click on a picture, it shows the warm and desaturated version, but quickly return to the other one, after the picture is loaded.
I really like the warm and slightly desaturated version, so is there a way i can keep it, or bring it back? I know it has something to do with the colour conversion, that happens in the camera, but i can't figure out how to use it.
I'm shooting with a Canon EOS 5d mkIII. See a screenshot of the issue.
    Please help me...
    Lars

There is a non-obvious menu at the top right hand side of Bridge that selects whether Bridge displays the camera generated jpeg within the raw file (your preferred rendering above) or the ACR version (the warmer redder image).  I set mine to High Quality so the Bridge version always matches the ACR, even if it takes slightly longer to render.
Canon has its own algorithm for conversion and AFAIK they don't share it with Adobe.  My advice is change the Bridge setting so that the two match, and try the other camera profiles under ACR Camera Calibration to see if one is more pleasing than the stock Adobe Standard.  Alternatively, you can get into modifying/creating your own camera profiles, but that will take some more study and tools, such as using the DNG Profile Editor.

  • Colour loss when saving PNGs.

    Hi there,
I'm fairly new to photoshop and am having a few difficulties when saving a PNG.
I'm using a Mac Book Pro.
    I'm using Photoshop CS6.
The problem I'm encountering is when I save a PNG file I'm losing a lot of colour saturation. It goes from a vibrant red to a dull red colour.
    The workspace is RGB 8bit.
I'm using the SAVE AS function because I don't want it for web I need it for print and I need the transparent background too.
The only way I've managed to get the full colour is by using the save for web option and selecting PNG-24.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using the SAVE AS function because I don't want it for web I need it for print and I need the transparent background too.
Then I see no reason for using png but think you should use psd.
    The workspace is RGB 8bit.
Workspaces are something completely different in Photoshop (and concern Panels, Menus etc,) and RGB is not a Color Space but a Color Mode.
What is the image’s Color Space or if it isn’t embedded what is your RGB Working Space (Edit > Color Settings)?

  • 3d Text not changing colour in Photoshop CS6 Extended-Any Thoughts?

    Hi,
I'm trying 3d text for the 1st time in Photoshop Cs6 Extended and thought I'd post my query on here as I've always found people to be really friendly and helpful.
The problem is every time I create new text and and change the colour it's always showing up as black. Nothing I do seems to alter this. Someone suggested a memory problem but I really don't know
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated

Did a complete reinstall and that seemed to allow me to change colours.Interestingly when I did the offered upgrade it reverted back to the way it was.Although I can't seem to see the widget(with grid) that allows me to easily move the text around. Is that in CS6? There is an example at 57 seconds here:
