Colour management or adjustment layer for broadcast output

Hi all,
I'm a bit confused about outputting broadcast safe colours and black and white levels. I am used to passing on my final render to a facilities house or an editor so am a bit green at this kind of thing.
In the help files it says its better to use color management so I've set my project settings/color settings to "SDTV PAL 16-235"
when I rendered out a few test stills and opened them in Photoshop to sample the colours, there are black levels of 0 rather than 16.
I've resorted to adding an adjustment layer to the top of the master comp and adding Broadcast Colors filter and adding Levels effect and setting Output Black to 16 and Output White to 235.
Is this an acceptable quick fix way of working?
I suppose I should have a look at color finesse when I get a moment
thanks in advance
s

Hi blabber,
Can you give me more info about step 2?  I would like to repro exactly what you are seeing here at Adobe.  How are you exporting your final animation?  What format, codec, etc...  Also small sample projects with single frames etc would be very useful.
Thanks

  • Adjustment Layer For Audio Effects

    We've the latest Adjustment Layer For Video Fx In Premiere now days.....but my question is
    Did premiere have anything like Adjustment Layer....So Basically if you want to add 20 Sound Effects in 40 Clips
    You gonna spend the whole day for doing that...
    If You suddenly want to change some amount in the Audio Effects Panel,that more worst
    Any Advice For That???

    You could add the effect in the track mixer.

  • Adjustment Layer for Shapes

    Hey Guys,
    So I was having to change a bunch of properties of multiple shape layers and I was thinking, Wouldn't it be cool to have shape adjustment layers?
    Example:
    You have 10 different shape layers  - 5 Squares and 5 triangles
    Create a new shape adjustment layer and apply "round corners"
    You can now very easily control the round corners for all layers without having to go into each layer
    Then maybe you could have inclusions and exclusions - You could include all shape layers with "square_01" in the name, Then the shape adjustment layer would only effect the shape layers with "square_01" in the name.
    I know you can kind of so this by creating multiple polygons under one shape layer but some times you need multiple shape layers.
    Anyone else think this would be handy? Can you already do this and I am just ignorant ?
    Cheers

    I would use property links to accomplish what you describe.
    Property links were added in After Effects 12.1:

  • Curves adjustment layer for greyscale images

    If you are editing a greyscale image, the curves adjustment layer is shown in "reverse" style (as you would expect to work with a CMYK image)  that that is awkward to work with.  If you use Image->Adjustment->Curves, you have the option to invoke the curve display in Light (0-255) or Pigment/Ink % in which the LIGHT does what is appropriate..   It would be nice to have the  ability to toggle the Light/Pigment in the Curves Adjustment layer.
    I think I remember that, in the good old days of CS/CS2, you could alt-click on the gradient to alter the tonal direction of the curve.

    Woops... I just found that the Curves Adjustment layer flyout has a Curves Display Options that allows the setting - and it is sticky.  Sorry for the waste bandwidth.

  • Exposure adjustment layer for 32 bit HDR images

    I know I can adjust exposure in Camera Raw. I can use the adjustment brush to make local exposure adjustments in ACR too. Is it possible to make exposure adjustments to 32 bit images in Photoshop? My attempts at using the exposure adjustment layer weren't successful. Although I'm told "exposure" was designed for 32bit, the adjustment layer doesn't seem to be to access and manipulate any of the exposure data thats I know is in the file, but is not visible. It would be should be so useful, but from what I gather the exposure adjustment is totally useless for 32 bit images. Are I doing something wrong?

    Thanks for the reply. I'm struggling to explain so i'll try and illustrate instead. Basically the Exposure adjustment layer does not work on the 32 bit file in the same way that ACR does. ACR changes exposure in the predictable way it should (like a raw file). The Exposure adjustment layer in photoshop doesn't work the same way. Or at all?

  • Adjustment layer for audio?

    Hello everyone,
    is there a way to make constant audio transition (I want it to slowly go completely silent) within a few audio clips? In one clip you can just apply a transition or make two keyframes, is there a way to do it through multiply audio clips?
    thanks for any suggestions:-)

  • How to set levels values in adjustment layer via script?

    I try to make a script which generates a non destructive adjustment layer for levels which already sets values for shadow levels and highlight levels. I tried the scripting listener in order to record it. Unfortunately the scripting listener only records the creation of adjustment layers but not their settings like shadow or highlight levels.
    The first question here: Why can't the scripting listener do this?
    So I tried to do it on my own and came up with the following script which won't work. My second question therefore is, can you help me to make a script which achieves my goal? Thanks a lot. I use Photoshop CC 2014.
    var desc780 = new ActionDescriptor();
    desc780.putInteger( charIDToTypeID( "ShdL" ), 60 );
    desc780.putInteger( charIDToTypeID( "HghL" ), 190 );
    var list126 = new ActionList();
    list126.putObject( charIDToTypeID( "LvlA" ), desc780 );
    var desc779 = new ActionDescriptor();
    desc779.putList( charIDToTypeID( "Adjs" ), list126 );
    executeAction( charIDToTypeID( "Lvls" ), desc779, DialogModes.NO );
    Here is the script which has been recorded by the scripting listener. As you can see there is no setting of the adjustment layer.
    var idMk = charIDToTypeID( "Mk  " );
    var desc188 = new ActionDescriptor();
    var idnull = charIDToTypeID( "null" );
    var ref135 = new ActionReference();
    var idAdjL = charIDToTypeID( "AdjL" );
    ref135.putClass( idAdjL );
    desc188.putReference( idnull, ref135 );
    var idUsng = charIDToTypeID( "Usng" );
    var desc189 = new ActionDescriptor();
    var idType = charIDToTypeID( "Type" );
    var desc190 = new ActionDescriptor();
    var idpresetKind = stringIDToTypeID( "presetKind" );
    var idpresetKindType = stringIDToTypeID( "presetKindType" );
    var idpresetKindDefault = stringIDToTypeID( "presetKindDefault" );
    desc190.putEnumerated( idpresetKind, idpresetKindType, idpresetKindDefault );
    var idLvls = charIDToTypeID( "Lvls" );
    desc189.putObject( idType, idLvls, desc190 );
    var idAdjL = charIDToTypeID( "AdjL" );
    desc188.putObject( idUsng, idAdjL, desc189 );
    executeAction( idMk, desc188, DialogModes.NO );

  • Adding to the selection of a current hue/saturation adjustment layer?

    I made a selection on a car, used a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to change that selected color, though I went and used the Magic Wand to add more to my selection and that new part of the selection is not affected by the previous Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. How is this done? Do I have to make a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer for the added selection Using Cs5.
    Thanks.

    There's selection of the color range the Hue/Saturation layer will work on.  That's controlled by the little sliders that appear when you choose, for example, "Reds".  You can do things like widen or narrow the range of colors included, as well as widen or narrow the ramps defining how much that colors near the edges of the ranges will be affected.
    There's also the possibility that you defined a layer mask when making the Hue/Saturation layer, which will define which pixels in the image will be affected.  If so, you need to click on the layer mask in the Layers panel and paint on it (white to choose which parts the Hue/Saturation layer will work on, black to choose which parts not to work on).  You can, of course, paint grayscale on the layer mask to have certain pixels partially affected.
    Hope this helps.

  • Adjustment Layer modifications do not appear in Actions

    Problem with action in Photoshop CC
    This problem occurs only on my own computer, on another computer, no problem.
    If I make an action containing an adjustment layer, for example an adjustment layer curves, it is designed to neatly. I then bring a change to the curve, it does appear in the picture and in the history, but not in the action. What goes wrong?
    I may have to remove and reinstall all CC photoshop? Do I get any licensing issues?

    Hi,
    See if unchecking  the Generator plugins in the photoshop (edit)>preferences>plug-ins makes a difference.
    Also, ensure that you have the latest photoshop cc updates by going to Help>Updates from within photoshop cc or using the creative cloud application.

  • New Adjustment Layer - Levels/histogram GLITCH ?

    I use the non-destructive Adjustment Layers (Layers/New Adjustment Layer) all the time.  Today when I was playing around on the CS6 beta for Photoshop, I discovered that after selecting the New Adjustment Layer for Levels that I couldn't see the historgram graph when tried to re-access the Adjustment Layer by clicking on the Levels icon on the layer palette.  I shut photoshop off and reopened it, hoping it had a quick reset fix... but no luck.  When I first open up a Levels Adj. Layer, I can see the historgram and slide bar, but when I close it, and return to it to do additional work, I can no longer see the histogram graph. All I see is a smaller version of what looks like a small dark grey levels box, with the 3 levels arrows (left-dark, middle-mid tones, right-light) but no histogram to make adjustments with.
    Am I missing something here...? Is this super obvious and I just need another cup of coffee to make it all become clear?

    Hello, could you post a screen capture? http://forums.adobe.com/message/4209263#4209263
    And please post Photoshop's help>System info...
    Is there any content in the image? the levels histogram will look empty if the image is all black or white.

  • Photoshop Elements & Curves Adjustment Layer

    Hi.  I know that PE does not have curves or curves adjustment layers.
    However, there are curves plug-ins that can be downloaded that work pretty well. I am trying to figure out though if there is a way to fake a curves adjustment layer using one of those plug ins.  I want to avoid having to make a new layer that is a merge of the other layers and then applying curves to the resulting new one, because it not only does not act like a curves adjustment layer, but it also makes the file bigger and more difficult to apply tweaks later on.  If anyone knows a way to fake a curves adjustment layer, can you please post it here?
    Also, I hope that a future release of PE includes real curves and an adjustment layer for curves.  I have PE7, but am not planning to upgrade to 8 because they have not included this.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
    Perhaps you might have a better way to use it than I do.
    I've used some of these plug ins for curves.
    I usually create a new layer from merging the visible layers into the new layer.  Then I apply the curves plug in.
    The problem here is now that layer locks me in to the adjustments I have done before, even if they are all layer adjustments, because I will apply the curves to the new layer, and then dup that layer for further adjustments, such as healing, cloning, clean up, etc.
    Is this how you would approach it?  Or, do you have another way that is more flexible?
    Thank you.

  • AppleScript Control over Curves Adjustment Layer

    Hi,
    I would like to create a new Curves Adjustment Layer for the current document using AppleScript.  Then, I would like to be able to manipulate the curve data from within my script.  Is this possible?  I have not found a sample that illustrates doing this.
    I am working on Photoshop CS3 Extended on a MacBook Pro.
    Thank you

    Here is a sample of a pre-built Curves Layer Adjustment. It should make some sense. In this you can see how to set 5 curve points and adjust the composite channels with the option of grouping the layer to a previous one.
    tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
    activate
    set Doc_Ref to the current document
    tell Doc_Ref
    set {ah, av, bh, bv, ch, cv, dh, dv, eh, ev, group} to {0, 0, 63, 53, 124, 127, 192, 204, 255, 255, true}

  • Need to create and adjustment layer to compensate for undesirable hue caused by lens

    I’m looking for some help to set up an adjustment layer to compensate for a specific lens colouration issue. Basically I’m using a GoPro (on a drone) but I have fitted an aftermarket flat lens. Sharpness is good, but the lens has a well known issue – it results in pink hue around the edges/corners. Most of the time it is barely noticeable, other times it jumps out. It also depends on the monitor I am using eg. my TV seems to bring it out a lot more than my laptop.
    Here is an example - look around 0:35 to 0:40 http://vimeo.com/117790732
    And to try get an idea of where the issue is on the frame, I picked an example image of frost covered grass, very early in the morning. I then cranked up the saturation to 100% and this is what it looks like:
    I would like to be able to compensate for this. Presumably this should done with an adjustment layer made in Photoshop which I can then import into Premier Pro. Can anyone advise as to how I do that?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Jacques

    Hi Trevor
    Thanks for your reply. I did what you suggested and created 2 masked adjustment layers which are basically concentric rings with differing levels of magenta reduction and I then feathered the edges. I have attached 2 images below to show the before and after effect. I’m working on getting this more accurate and I’m also going to look into the technique posted by Normfb. Big thanks to you Trevor for suggesting this – this is all quite new to me and it was very useful to play around with these adjustments layers, masks etc.

  • Adjustment Layer Equivalent for Dynamics Effect?

    Adobe Premiere Pro CC2014
    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1
    I often use the Dynamics Audio Effect.
    Is there an Adjustment Layer like way to apply the Dynamics Effect?
    Currently, I have to place the Dynamic Effect in each clip of an audio track.
    If I make a change, I have to individually change the Dynamics Effect for each clip in the track.
    Thanks in advance.

    Click on the box to open up the effects menu.
    If you want to add it to more than one track you could create a submix group and add the effect to that. I always put one on the master to control the main output level.
