Colour Range tool broken

Hello,
I have been using photoshop for a few years now and have recently switched from CS5 to Photoshop CC.  Though I am beginning to regret this decision, but that is by the by.
I have recently discovered that my Select > Colour Range tool is completely broken.  So for example, as a part of my day to day job, I change the skies on photos from grey to blue with fluffy clouds.  When I click the eyedrop tool and select my grey area it simply will not give me that range of colours or any other range of colours, no matter what the fuzziness.  Please see this example:
Here you see me selecting the desired colour
And here you see photoshop CC failing to recognise any of the colours I have selected.
Any help would be much appreciated.

You will need to be more specific. What system? What color management? This could be one of those gigazillion issues where hardware acceleration gets in the way and messes with the color sampling. As a test, at least turn it off under Preferences --> Performance. if that resolcves the issue, then you know you need to straighten out your graphics driver and configuration to make it work with acceleration on.

  • Colour Range Tool not Working in CC as it did in CS6.

Hi,  I'm currently trying out Ps CC and have realised that the Colour Range tool is not working as it did in CS6. Rather than selecting the solid colour sampled by the eye dropper (in this case pink from a blue and pink design) it is selecting fragments of both colours. No amount of playing with the sliders is improving the selection clarity. Does anybody have a solution? Thanks Kayle.

  • No colour range tool....help

no colour range tool in selection tab...what else do you suggest to get same result...cheers!

I just had a look at that script in Elements+:
    http://simplephotoshop.com/elementsplus/v5/en/selective-color.htm
I don't have PS, so I can't see if that is close to the original version.
I see this as an alternative to the standard hue/sat adjustment layer to adjust selected colors. Once you have made your selective adjustment, you can't edit the adjustment layer.
It may be of some use for people used to work with CMYK primaries, but otherwise, I think that the hue/saturation adjustment layer is more flexible and selective... unless I am missing something.

  • Selecting with colour range doesn't work properly

Well, at least to me it doesn't work properly.  If I have elements on seperate levels and I use the colour range option to select the area, it works on all the levels, not just the level I have selected.  That's not what I want!  I only want it to select the colour range on that one level.  The work around is to manually turn off other levels, but on a  file with lots of levels, that can be tedious.  Can this be avoided?  Incidentally, magic wand works only on the selected level, but not colour range (or color range, if you are American).

Aha! You are correct. Layers above the target layer are still being sampled when sampling is at "Current Layer".
That has to be a bug. The Eye Dropper Tool itself does work correctly, though.
I'm about to report another problem, so I'll report this one, too.
Edit: Looking again, I don't think there is a bug.
It seems to not be that the higher layer is seen when sampling "Current Layer", which is correct and the same as when the Eye Dropper Tool itself is use. However, the pixels of the visible composite are then evaluated to determine the regions to be selected. I guess that's correct behaviour and you will have to do the Alt-click on eye trick to completely ignore all other layers.

  • Colour replacement tool not working

I have a jpeg file loaded into Photoshop CS6. This is a black logo on a white background. The colour replacement tool has no effect on this (I want to change the black to another colour)
I have read somewhere that the tool doesnt work with black and white? is that correct and if so, how do i get the colour changed
    Thanks
    Chris Anderson

    Hi Cjacs,
You may try using blending modes to achieve your desired result. Starting with a black and white logo:
    1) Create a new fill layer by going to Layer > New Fill Layer > Solid Color.
    2) At the first dialog box, click OK. Then choose the color you want the artwork to be.
    3) You logo artwork will then be hidden, but don't worry! We'll using blending modes to change this.
    4) In the Layers Panel, look for the area where it says "Normal." This is where you change the blend mode. Open this dropdown menu and select Screen.
    5) Your artwork will then be changed to the color you chose before.
I hope this was helpful! Please don't hesitate to ask more questions if this did not solve your issue.

  • Photoshop: values for type, brush, crop, lasso etc tools broken on Leopard

I posted this in answer to another thread, but decided that it may be helpful to some Photoshop users if it had its own topic:
The following is a technote copied from Adobe's forums, regarding the performance of several menus for key tool settings in Photoshop CS3 running in Leopard:
*Changing values for type, brush, crop, lasso etc tools broken on Leopard*
    *Kirsten Harris - 08:58pm Nov 15, 2007 Pacific*
Adobe and Apple are working closely to provide a fix to a known issue running Adobe Photoshop CS3 and Photoshop CS3 Extended on Mac OS X Leopard (v10.5.1). Currently, when you enter values in numerical fields to set sizes for the brush, crop, marquee, lasso, type, and other Photoshop CS3 tools, those values revert to previously entered values when you try to apply them.
    # While we have identified workarounds for some of the affected tools, this issue prevents people from working as precisely and intuitively as they expect. Providing a fix to customers is a top priority. Please note the following: The fix will be provided through an update to Mac OS X Leopard. Consequently, it is not part of the Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) update.
    # Apple is collaborating closely with us to get this fix incorporated into a Mac OS X Leopard update. No public schedule is available at this time, but both companies understand the urgency of this fix.
    # As soon as the appropriate update to Mac OS X Leopard is available, we will immediately alert our Photoshop users.
Affected Photoshop CS3 tools: Art History tool, Blur tool, Brush tool, Burn tool, Color Replacement tool, Clone tools (all), Crop tool, Dodge tool, Eraser tools (all), Gradient tool, Healing tools (all), History tool, Lasso tools (all), Line tool, Magic Wand tool, Marquee tools (all), Paint Bucket tool, Pencil tool, Polygon tool, Quick Selection tool, Red Eye tool, Rounded Rectangle tool, Sharpen tool, Smudge tool, Sponge tool, Slice tool, Type tool
Workaround for tools with sliders: Instead of typing in a number, use the sliders to change the value.
Workaround for tools with pop-up menus: Enter a value for the size but don’t press Return/Enter to apply the value. Instead, choose it from the top of the Size pop-up menu to commit it.
Workaround for tools which do not have sliders or pop-up menus: For certain tools, such as the Line tool, you may want to set up presets that you can load to set common sizes. Alternatively, you can restart Photoshop CS3 to clear the problem. You will then be able to enter values again. However, the issue typically re-surfaces quickly.
If additional details come to light, our tech doc Values in numerical fields in Photoshop CS3 revert to the previous value in Mac OS X v10.5.1 (Leopard) will be updated.

Well, that's interesting! Here I thought the problem with my CS1 was just that it was too old, running in Rosetta and all, and would be fixed when I get my Xmas treat of CS3. Wonder if that means when the fix comes from Apple it will also fix the same problem in CS1? Of course, by then I'll probably have CS3.... Thanks for posting this, I would have been mighty annoyed to have plonked down my 200 bucks only to discover that I had the same bugs.

  • Lost the HSL and colour Adjustment tool bar

I seem to have lost the HSL and Colour adjustment tool bar on the drop down on the right hand side of the screen.
    Can anybody help?
    thanks!!

    1. Right Click (Cmd-Click) on one of the other headings in the Develop Panel (Basic, Tone Curve etc).
    2. This will bring up a selection menu of which items you want to be visible.
    3. Re-select "Adjustments" and the HSL/Color/ B&W should reappear.

  • Magic Rubber  + Colour Replacement Tool

I am searching for a Adobe Program which has the tools "magic rubber" and the "colour replacement tool". I need this just for my hobby. So the full Version of Photoshop iis to expensive for me. Is there an alternative?

I don't know what "magic rubber" is, but it fairly easy to select something in PSE and change the color.
Suggest that you download the free 30 trial, fully functioning, PSEv13. This will afford you the opportunity to evaluate it for your purpose.

  • Strangely behaving Colour Replacement Tool

    Hi anyone,
I've read up and watched videos of the Colour Replacement Tool and I've been trying all night to replace a very pale blue patch of sky with a dark blue patch of sky.  Websites say use the colour picker to choose the darker blue I want.  I do this and it successfully becomes my Foreground Colour in the 2 little squares.   It then says if I go to Colour Replacement Tool and click on something with the target in the circle (ie the too pale blue I want to get rid of), it will replace that with my Foreground Colour (my darker blue).
But this never happens.  It wipes out my pale blue OK ,but replaces it with white all the time instead of my dark blue foreground colour,   Frustratingly when I click and brush on some brown rocks, they DO come up with the blue I want.
So I experimented by changing my foreground colour to black with the eyedropper tool this time so things would be obvious and to see if my pale sky got darker.   Then I went to the Colour Replacement Tool and clicked on my pale sky and moved the cursor around expecting things to change to black, but again they just changed to white !!   And when I went to the brown rocks, even more bizarrely they were still changing to the dark blue I wanted that was my earlier foreground colour, and not the black that was showing as my current foreground colour.
Why is this happening - I'm using Photoshop Elements 13?   Could it be anything to do with the fact I'm trying to do this on a Photomerged Panoramic shot.which is why I have dark sky and light sky as I forgot to fix exposure for the 2 shots..

Not what you want to hear probably but here goes:
I consider the Color Replacement Tool worthless for serious image editing and would recommend that you focus on non-destructive techniques (like Adjustment Layers) instead to accomplish such a task.

  • Colour replacer tool not working...

I need to recoolour the gold text so its white.
If I select it its not really very good.
I thought about using the colour replacer tool but it goes gray.
How can I make it go white?
Or, should I be looking for a different method?
    Many thanks
    Edward

    Hi
I can wrote you one of a ways how to select only text from that image and colorize it as you want.
    1. press CTRL+J (or cmd+j if you are using MAC) this will duplicate your actual layer
    2. press CTRL+SHIFT+U for desaturate the image or in main menu  - Image/Adjustmets/Desaturate
    3. press CTRL+M for editing curves or Image/Adjustments/Curves - and move horizontaly with dots showed on graph to get the most contrast image with still soft edges
    4. Now switch to your Chanels tab, if you don't have it displayed you can do this in Window/Chanels
         - then just ctrl+click to chanel layer image to get selection of white color
         - Tip for the future use, If you are working with more complex images with a lot of shades of grey turn off RGB layer, and two other layers to gen only 2 colours palete, choose one you like the most and then width ctrl+click on layer thumbnail you get this selection (somenimes is needed to invert selection ... if you are selecting dark tones)
    5. Switch back to layers and create a new layer, fill the selection on that new layer and you have text on it's own layer where you can do whatever you want, for example change colour.
because you want to have a white you're probably done
    Hope this helped

  • Where can I find the colour range selection tool in Photoshop Elements 11?

Note: It is not under the Selection tab in the menu. This tool is very useful and Adobe help is making it very hard to find.

The Select>Color Range is only in the full versions of photoshop such as photoshop cs6.
As far as i know that's never been available in photoshop elements (from the factory sorta speak) except in version 3 using an action created in photoshop.
There are many other ways to make selections in photoshop elements.
As a side note and not really pertaining to your version of elements, years ago back in the pre os x days, there was a plugin for photoshop/photoshop le/pse 1 on macs quite similar in function to select>color range.

  • Range delivered broken and no one wants to repair it

Bought an open box range in store last week and scheduled a delivery for yesterday. Upon inspection in store only damage appeared to be cosmetic with a few dents on the side. Since it was going in between the counter and a wall the dents would not be visible so we decided to buy it. No other problems were disclosed at the time of purchase. When it arrived the delivery guys stated there was a wire broke and they couldn't repair it but to call geek squad and they'll send someone right out. Delivery guys left and took our old range and left the broken one. We called geek squad and after 45 minutes of being placed on hold while they figured out how to handle the situation informed us that someone from the store we purchased it at will contact us. 24 hours passed and never received a call so we went to the store to attempt to resolve the issue. Geek squad in store refused to send someone out to repair. They called 1-800-geek squ and they refused to send anyone out. Team lead said they will replace the range but since it was an open box we would have to pay the difference for a new one. No one wants to take responsibility and handle the situation. So what is likely going to happen is the range will be returned for a full refund and I will never step foot in that store or any Best buy again.

    Hello tivo67,
Buying a new major appliance should be fun and exciting, especially when you find a really great deal. I'm very sorry to hear that this was not your experience due to the unexpected issue with the stove and I apologize for our disappointing you when you contacted us for a repair solution.
I understand that you spoke to Geek Squad Agents and a team lead about this situation. Did you also speak to a store manager during your visit? Were you presented with any options at all beyond returning the appliance?
Please know that I'm very grateful that you wrote to us with your concerns.
    Sincerely,

  • Is the colour balance tool in Photoshop elements or just Photoshop?

I'm doing a diploma in digital photography and I need to use a tool called Colour Balance which my course manual says is in Image>adjustments>Colour Balance.  I can't find this.  Is it somewhere else in Photoshop elements 8 or isn't it there altogether?

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

  • Costco QuickUpload tool broken with Safari 3

Hi, ever since Safari 3 was installed, the Costco QuickUpload tool to send pictures to Costco for printing is broken. Pictures can be selected, but when Upload is clicked, nothing happens forever. Pictures have to be slow uploaded, selected one at a time, 12 in a group. Anybody find a fix for this? Anybody else having this problem?

Costco came out with a new plug-in. This works with Safari 3.
