Coloured manpages no longer coloured? [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I've been using coloured manpages for a while now (using LESS_TERMCAP_xx variables from the tip here: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Pos … ed_manpage) and I noticed recently that the output is no longer coloured.  It may have been going on for a while, I've only just noticed.
I've tried rebuilding "less" with --enable-termcap but that didn't seem to help.
Anyone else have the same problem?  Any solutions?
[SOLVED]
bernarcher's suggestion to edit /etc/man_db.conf worked a treat:
bernarcher wrote:
This is caused by the new man_db package. The less pager must be defined with proper options in /etc/man_db.conf.
DEFINE pager less -Rs

2 ways to fix it....
Add to .bashrc
export MANPAGER='/usr/bin/most -s'
Then log out/back in. Or edit /etc/man_db.conf and uncomment the line bernarcher mentioned and change 'less' to 'most'
EDIT: At least on my system it looks like /etc/man_db.conf needs the full path so it should be /usr/bin/most
That's to use the pager 'most' with man. The discussion is on getting 'less' to work colored and with man, since it's a more featureful pager
Thanks anyways though.

  • Evince Highlight Colour [SOLVED]

Simple problem, but has been bugging me for ages:
When I search for a string in evince, the highlighting of the matched strings is grey, which is very hard to see. I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the search colour.
The buttons in evince also look a little weird, in that the buttons take a certain colour gradient, which the square around the icons doesn't match.
That second point is purely aesthetic, but it makes me wonder if the root of the problem is not running gnome or gnome shell. I simply use xmonad, and would rather not run it in a gnome session if I don't have to -- though I guess I wouldn't care too much.
    Thanks!

Okay, so I'm still trying to figure this out. If I run gnome 3, and then run evince, I still get this annoying problem.
    Here's an image:
    http://s23.postimg.org/szd4y04p7/screen.png
I'm searching for the word 'Ergodic' and as you can see it just turns gray. This is not at all helpful for normal text.
If you look closely you'll also notice that, for example, in the upper right corner, with the magnifying glass, there's a white box around the glass inside the button. So it's as if the image for the button is borked.

  • Pixma scanner no longer working [Solved]

This worked flawlessly about a month ago- so there are no sane packages to downgrade in hopes of solving this problem. Sane detects the scanner just fine (cups printing still works with this multifunction and it scans fine in Windows- so not a hardware issue).
Anyway, found some people with similar problems who use Ubuntu, with no solutions yet, so I figured I'd see if any Archers also had this problem with other Canon Pixma multifunctions.
    [root@desktop jjohnson]# scanimage -L && scanimage -T
device `pixma:MX860_192.168.1.5' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX860 multi-function peripheral
scanimage: scanning image of size 640x1050 pixels at 24 bits/pixel
scanimage: acquiring RGB frame, 8 bits/sample
scanimage: reading one scanline, 1920 bytes... FAIL Error: Operation was cancelled
    [root@desktop jjohnson]#
Scanner is found just fine, however it will fail to scan anything (by feeder or flatbed). xsane gives an operation canceled error as well. This problem also occurs on my laptop.
Anyone else having issues with Pixma based scanners? Any ideas for further troubleshooting sane?
Thanks for any help or commentary

  • Kde root login no longer present(Solved with set true kdmrc)

How to enable root log-in in Kde log-in window.
    Window shows      Root
                          Password......
Upon entry of password, error message says :
                               !root logins not allowed.
What change is necessary to allow root log-in?

    Hi lilsirecho.
I hope these comments will be helpful. I'm not quite certain what you're problem is with your root account.
    1. Give your root account a root password. Log in as root, and run:
    passwd root
You can get to this console by pressing the tri-chord:
    Alt-Ctrl-Fn
where Fn is F1 ... F7 (or whatever consoles you've set up in '/etc/inittab') and then logging in.
    2. You should be able to run KDE as root or as a regular user if you log into root or your regular user account. If you're starting from a console, you'll need to run 'startx', of course. You may need to stop the already running X instance: run 'init 3' as root. To restart X, run 'init 5' as root. This should take you to the KDE login.
    3. Once you have KDE up and running, go to the KDE Control Center->System Administrator->Login Manager. To change the login you'll need to have administrative ('root') privileges (that's why you'll need a root password). You'll see a button in the lower left corner of the Login Manager screen to give you 'Administrator Mode'.  You should see in the 'Users' tab a list of login users with options to hide and set icons in login screen. Make certain that 'root' is marked appropriately here.
    4. After you've done your KDE Control Center configuration for the KDE login, you should be able to log out and restart KDE with a root user as an option.

  • [SOLVED]Google Earth and LSB

    Good Morning Fellow Archers,
I've got an up to date x64 Arch install. I wanted to install Google-Earth from the AUR but was not able. I tried both packages, and both of them are failing looking for LSB-3. The current LSB in the repository is rev 4.
I followed one thread where I manually created a link for a lsb-3 install, and both google-earth packages still fail.
I do have the multi-libs enabled as I have one app that uses wine32 and it's happy. And the NVidia lib32 stuff is all there too.
I have X-Plane 9, which is a 32 bit app only, and it runs fine so I know the x32libs are all in place and working.
I think the long-term solve is for the google-earth AUR maintainers to square away their builds for lsb-4....but I'm not an expert in package builds or I'd jump in and help.....but reality is that I am not an expert.
In the meantime....how do I make this work without pounding a 'square' peg into a 'round' hole?
    Assistance will be sincerely appreciated!
    Dave
PS: Yes...I did try to follow the wiki article too.....

Thank you for the response. I have it installed and it works perfectly. THANK YOU.
The solve was simple. I was brain-locked on the lsb in the arch repository, and was not taking note of that I needed the lsb from the AUR.
    This was totally my error.
Again, thank you for the response.

  • Open letter to Cisco regarding the UC320 platform

    Cisco,
I have never in my life been exposed to a "production" piece of equipment with so many bugs, missing features and oddities as the UC320. While I am sure many of you are working hard to reign in the problems, this platform is an utter embarrassment that should be in the preliminary alpha stages, not a channel product being sold to end users.
It is clear that Cisco has little understanding of how SMALL business works and how SMALL partners work with small business customers. A larger partner may be able to string a larger business along with promises of bug fixes and feature additions while charging them to make things right and.or padding the overall cost to account for the callbacks. True small businesses don't have the time, patience or money to deal with problematic hardware. When a partner sells a small business a piece of technology, it better work (at a reasonable cost) or the technology and the partner are out the door.
I was extremely excited when this system was announced and saw great potential for small business customers and an alternative to the Avaya Partner IP and other platforms targeted at the same demographic. I jumped in and put a UC320 in the office of one of my small customers. This whole experience has cost me the trust of a client and is going to end up costing me $3000-$4000 out of pocket (hardware, labor, travel) to make things right with the customer.
As it stands, countless hours have been spent trying to get this system to operate in a reasonably stable and productive manner. At this time the UC320 system has been reset and reconfigured in KEY mode (this time using 2.1.3(0), as the problems with steering digits, call routing and redial in "hybrid mode" made the system more than a little cumbersome to use. Now in KEY mode, caller ID only works on some stations AFTER a call is picked up. On one station, incoming calls are somehow routed to the "Phone Monitor" buttons instead of the "Shared FXO Line" buttons. The user has to press the monitor button to pick up a call, but the call does not always ring at the station so she has to watch for the lights. While the caller ID functionality is a bit better after the latest firmware update, it is still far from working properly. These basic call routing problems are not reasonable and not acceptable, period. The customer is tired of "we are working on it" and so am I.
Other problems (to mention a few):
The GUI is full of buggy behavior. One example if many: The impendence matching dialog only works the first time around and then the GUI loses track of what it is doing and must be reset.
It takes 7-10 minutes for the GUI to load to the login screen over a remote connection. The UC320 is connected to a Verizon DSL, while not blazing fast it is a decent connection. Initial GUI loading on the LAN is almost as bad.
The IE9 product that ships with every new Windows computer is not compatible with the GUI. This is not reasonable.
The AA is somewhat unpredictable with regard to picking up calls and sometimes results in a busy tone and dropped call, even if the call is the ONLY call on the system. Sometimes the prompts are garbled and sometimes the AA does not even pick up.
Steering digit redial issue - still not addressed. Redial on hybrid mode is useless, as is the phonebook.
Caller ID only works part of the time, yet on every other system I have ever used, it works 100% of the time. This is not acceptable.
Answered calls on shared FXO lines show as MISSED on other stations with those lines. The workaround: remove the missed calls display feature. This is not acceptable.
Thus UC320 is not happy unless it is the only router, DHCP and DNS client on the LAN. The grayfield implementation appears to fail no matter what LAN topology and equipment are used. This device is far from friendly to the typical SBS or existing LAN with a dedicated DNS and/or DHCP server.
The handsets have a cheap feel to them compared to the Avaya and other competitors phones.
The sound quality of the ringtones is almost laughable if not sad
The speakerphone quality and overall voice quality are not as good as the competition's.
The filtering functionality of the logging feature does not appear to work properly
Firmware updates often result in a HANG condition where either the GUI needs reset, the system needs a physical reset and/or sometimes defaulted
Firewall port forwarding rule oddities where a rule is deleted from the gui but is still active in the firewall, yet the inability to easily use another data router to work around this problem.
The inability of the device to properly use the LAN port for INTERNET based functionality (Time for example) if the WAN port is NOT connected,
countless other 'issues" raised in the support forum and other venues...
These are ALL very basic functions that one would expect to be fixed BEFORE a basic telephone system platform is released for production. It is absolutely unreasonable for a CUSTOMER to have to put up with a system this buggy and it is absolutely unreasonable for a partner to have to devote this much time and money to getting system to work at even a very basic level of functionality.
To repeat the scenario: This config is as basic as it gets running 2.1.3(0) with (3) system phones, (3) users, (2) pots trunks and that's it. There are no odd call routing scenarios, no complex AA rules or schedules (in fact the AA is defaulted, including prompts). All (3) system phones have BOTH shared FXO lines (KEY MODE). Each and every firmware version has been tried and the system has been defaulted numerous times. The system fails to meet even the most basic expectations of myself or the end user and has become a sore spot between our company and a very good client.
I am somewhat baffled, if not outright bothered by the fact that this device is riddled with so many problems and the fixes are taking so long to be implemented, if at all. I have been asked (ordered) by the customer to get this "hunk of crap" out of their office and replace it with something that works "at no additional cost". I could not agree with the customer more...
    A very unhappy Cisco Partner.
    William Burnett

    To William (and Cisco,)
    Honestly, I like Cisco.
I like their  "openess" (you can find documentation and help on almost anything  anywhere), the contribution they make to industry by their huge R&D  effort (more than all their competition combined....or so I've been  told...), the accessibility and responsiveness of some of their key  people in the distribution channel, and yes, I like the ecosystem in  terms of support, tons of free education and sales support for both  their SMB and classic enterprise solutions.
Having said that, I thank God for people like William  Burnett, who I am sure opened the eyes of many partners about the things  that are horrendously wrong with some of the products in the SMB  portfolio, most notably the UC320. I think it is fair to say, that  William has effectively "killed" it (the UC320) in it's present  incarnation. That is, unless Cisco, decides to really rise to the  challenge and fix a product that at first seemed ideal for the small  enterprise, but which was poorly implemented in terms of QC and in some  cases design.
We certainly are not going to be touching the UC320  with a 10ft pole now Nobody wants (or can afford to) get a bad name by  selling "trouble" to your Mom&Pop shops or to people whose trust you  worked hard to gain and who are really depending on you to deliver. Not  in this economy....not ever.
Coming from a Nortel telephony background, its really  hard to accept that having to respond to trouble calls or complaints  continuously from customers when Nortel products worked so reliably. In  fact, Nortel Norstar is so reliable as a key system that people joke ,  that's why they went out of business, they couldn't generate enough  turnover in new sales on account of people holding on to their Norstar's  forever.
As a seller/installer/user of Cisco voice (UC540) and CME there are a couple recommendations I would like to make to Cisco:
1)Private line emulation - inability to transfer or conference calls on a private line.  (using the TRUNK XX command) on the CME/UC500 platforms needs to be  significantly improved in order to keep up with the competition:
for  one, when you select a private line and make a call you cannot transfer  that call. Every other system I have worked with allows you to do this.  This for me is a glaring "defect/design flaw". I spent a lot of time  trying to get this "fixed" as I couldnt believe that Cisco would just  omit such a basic function when all their competition  has it. (You dont  even think about this when dealing with other systems.) Its just  expected.
2)Private line emulation - Inability to reflect the dialed number in the Call Detail Records for calls made via a "private line". If you select a private line on the UC500 or  CME and make a call, the dialed number would not show up in the CDR. I  have programmed systems from Nortel (Norstar, BCM,CS1000), Avaya - (IP  Office 500, Partner Plus, and S8x00 Communication Servers) as well as  various systems from Mitel and
Panasonic .  The CDR packages for these systems are very well implemented and  documented. Cisco's systems are well documented as well, but this is an  area of the implementation where Cisco falls behind the competition. I am sure this can be fixed, but for some reason, despite a number of requests, it hasnt.
In  trying to understand why it is Cisco, with such a huge R&D budget,  can't seem to get some things working properly that the competiton has  long ago solved and moved on with, I have come to the conclusion that it  must be that Cisco propably didnt tap enough of the right (human)  resources when it was developing its voice portfolio, and the lack of  industry experience shows up in some random places. Sad to say, not  paying attention to some of these details, to real world usage  scenarios, makes what would be an otherwise super product, just good  enough.
Cisco is the biggest networking vendor on  the planet. People have a right to have high exectations of Cisco. Their  marketing also conditions users and partners to expect more when using  their solutions. While we accept that no one is perfect, not even the  mighty Cisco, I think most of the complaints and dissapointment  expressed in this forum, on this particular thread, are justified  because there is a strong feeling that if Cisco can be such a  trailblazer with their enterprise portfolio, that they should have  understood the importance of ensuring and enforcing good quality control  in the design and manufacture of the SMB portfolio. I honestly hope  someone from "Corporate" or high enough to make a differnce, looks at  this thread started by William and uses it to inspire the will to fix  what needs to be fixed to redeem the UC320 in whatever incarnation, in  the eyes of its partners (even former ones....such as William)and  customers. This is beginning to look like a textbook case of how not to  do product development.

  • CharConversionException when displaying smart quotes

My servlets are throwing a CharConversionException when I attempt to display "smart quotes." The quotes and other symbols (i.e. long hyphen) are entered into an online form when a user composes something in Word 2000 then copies/pastes it into a text field. The servlet is able to get the parameter and update the MS SQL 7 database but not display the value back in the confirmation page. I am running this application on iPlanet web server v.6 SP 1. It seems to be related to my servlet engine as it doesn't have this problem when using the servlet runner (srun)--that will display the characters as a question mark. This is a set of smart quotes and a longhyphen

    problem solved:
1.- I changed the response content type of my Servlet to:
    response.setContentType("text/html;charset=\"windows-1252\"");
2.- In my DB I changed the type of the field to the "nText" type which support more characters like Unicode, etc

  • Web Dynpro application does not apply portal theme

    Hi Guys,
We created a new portal theme and assigned it to our users. The portal desktop gets assigned succesfully and portal applications also show the new theme colors. But all web dynpro pages still show in the blue SAP theme. This issue only occurs on our development portal, when we import the same theme on our test portal is all works fine.
I also tried to assign the WebDynpro parameters "sap.useWebDynproStyleSheet" and "sap.theme.default" and then the web dynpro applications are indeed forced into the portal theme. However, that is no soluition since all web dynpro applications then use the theme including SAP applications like the NetWeaver Administrator.
We looked at OSS note '1446099 - Web Dynpro application not displayed
in customer theme' but the stylesheets are not different.
    sap portal sytlesheet: UR=7.31.0.14.1
Web Dynpro Style sheet: UR Version=7.31.0.14.0
The portals in which the theme does work have the same stylesheet versions as mentioned above.
We also created an OSS message for this so if we solve it that way I will update this message. But if there is anyone on this forum that might have an idea that it would be highly appreciated. If the problem takes too long to solve we will perform a refresh from a portal that works but I hope that we will be able to find the reason of this behavior.
    Kind Regards,
    Nico van der Linden...

In theory, these versions should work correctly.
You can compare the patch levels applied on your dev portal and test portal - specifically compare the version/patch for the component EPPSERV*.SCA - and see if you have any differences there.
    Thanks,
    Shanti

  • Cannot Join a WPA2-Encrypted Network

    Hello all,
I have the iPad Wi-Fi+3G. At work we have 2 wireless networks served by Cisco WAP4410N access points. One is encrypted with 128-bit WEP and the other is WPA2-Personal Mixed. Both are set to 802.11b/g/n, and they have different SSID's.
The iPad cannot connect to the WPA2 network, saying the password is incorrect, even though I have verified that I'm using the correct password. However, the iPad can connect to the WEP network.
I don't know what else about the WPA2 network that could cause this issue. It also happens when iPhones try to connect to it.
In contrast at home, I can connect to my WPA2-Personal network served by an Airport Extreme Dual-Band router.
    Thanks.

    Any solutions, Apple?
First, Apple is not monitoring these forums for bug reports. This is primarily a user-to-user problem solving forum. Report your problem to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html with details. Since probably the majority of iPad users are using WPA2 without problem whatever problem you are having is likely specific to the model of router you have and the level of firmware it is running.
By the way, it's rather optimistic to be replying to a thread which is over 4 months old and has had no responses, even from the original poster who may have long since solved their problem.
If you want any useful advice here you should provide a lot more detail on what equipment you have and how it is configured, what iPad OS level you are running, etc.

  • Wifi problems on Macbook after Yosemite upgrade

I am having very serious problems with wifi connectivity of my Macbook Pro Retina after upgrading for OS X 10.10 by the end of October .
Of course this has a great impact on system usability since almost exclusively use wifi to connect to the network.
I must say I never expected that in Apple world a problem of this magnitude take so long to solve!
After trying various proposed solutions without result, two weeks ago in a user forum I found a simple turn around that effectively minimizes the problem on my Macbook.
Deactivating Bluetooth Wifi connectivity becomes less unstable and can work continuously with the networked PC. There continues to be an abnormally high rate of errors affecting eg Time Machine but the wifi connection does not drop.
It's a little ridiculous I can not use my Magic Mouse but it is less problematic that not to have Network!
But someone can direct me to a date that provides for the effective resolution of this problem by Apple? Or at least that the problem has been recognized and is being done something to fix it?
My system is yet under warrant. Should I activate the warranty and ask for the replacement of the Macbook? From what I've read not all users have this problem with Yosemite.
Can someone please explain to me the reasons why I have the problem and others with theoretically equal machines do not have it (it that is the case)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fernando Ribeiro

I installed last OS X update, 10.10.3, and the problem is completely solved.
The problem, Wifi+Bluetooth, is clearly addressed on the update notes.
Now I am working with Magic Mouse, Bluetooth, while navigating on the Internet via Wifi.
    Thanks

  • Is there a way to restrict the cursor at the end of a line in the source code editor??

In the source code editor, the cursor will always follow where I click. But I wanna restrict it at the end of a line, just like other text editors do. Is there a option or sth? I can't put up with it any longer.
    Solved!

    Hello morphe!
The source editor in the LabWindows/CVI environment is constructed under the concept of virtual space.
At the moment, in the current version of LabWindows/CVI, this is the default behavior, which cannot be changed from the editor preferences dialogs.
    Best regards,

  • Error Adding object to collection

Hi all... I'm using Toplink + ADF Faces...
We have the following problem: There are 2 tables involved, table A and table B
Table B has a FK to table A, therefore a one-to-one mapping from B to A and a one to many mapping (collection) from A to B.
What I want to do is to add an object of type B to the collection of an A object. I'm showing an input form for the constructor of type B, a submit button, and a read only table bellow to show the items of the collection. I have done this several times and worked fine, now I have NO clue why this is not working.
What I used to do to achieve this is to call the method of the type A "addB(B)" (to add the object) and then the "Execute" operation (to refresh the table shown) of the collection in which the addB method is adding objects.
    What I get is just:
    2006-11-17 13:53:30.421 WARNING JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: java.lang.NullPointerException, msg=null
    2006-11-17 13:53:30.421 WARNING java.lang.NullPointerException
    and no more details.... :-S
Does anyone know why this could be happening???
    or
Is there some other way of adding objects to a collection using ADF and toplink?? Any suggestion is more than welcome!! I've been trying for too long to solve this... :-(
    Thanks in advance

    Here is another symptom:
a few days ago, I developed a search page of objects of type "C". This type, has a collection of objects of type "B". This page is working fine, now... I do exactly the same steps to create a new page with the same search functionallity, and I get the same NullPointerException described above (with no extra information).
Since the development of that working page until now, I manually added the mapping of table "A", which was not mapped by the time we developed the working search page. So I guess something is wrong with this new mapping.
Here are the steps i did to map the new table "A" and define the relationship with table B (through a foreing key defined in DB):
    - created Java objects from tables for table "A".
    - added a FK from "B"->"A" in table "B" in the Offline Database Sources (just like the FK in the real DB)
    - added a ValueHolder attribute to class "B" (with the appropiate get and set, and initializing it in the constructor of class "B")
    - added a List attribute in class "A" of objects of type "B" (with the appropiates add, remove, get and set methods), and initializing the List as a new ArrayList in the constructor.
    - in the toplink map, mapped the new attributes:
one-to-one for the Valueholder in class "B" (using the appropiate FK)
one-to-many for the List attributes in class "A" (using the appropiate FK)
    - refreshed all possible datacontrol
And thats it... am I doing something wrong or missing something??
Is there any other way to map a new table into an existing toplink mapping? I'm using Jdev 10.1.3 Integrated workbench...
I will really appreciate any suggestion or comment, I really have no clue why this is happening.... Thanks in advance

  • Freeview digital TV on Qosmio G30

I understand many of you are experiencing the problem of digital tv freezing. I too have contacted Toshiba who act is if the don't know the problem exists and try to blame Microsoft. I saw one of you had some rather feeble feedback from Toshiba saying they are looking into the problem as of 26 th May. Is there any update yet ?? This really is a pathetic response from a company selling a machine for 1700.

    Hi guys
User Croshill has suggested in the previous posting that Toshiba know this issue and they are on to the problem.
I think we should give Toshiba time to solve this strange issue.
But I'm sure the technician will find the answer. I use also a Qosmio but not in the UK. I can use the digital TV in the areas where the signal is strong enough.
No freezing. I'm satisfied with this Toshiba unit. It seems that this happens only in the UK.
For me it sounds like a very unique problem and in my opinion it takes a little bit longer to solve it.

By the way, do you have any idea on how I can learn to improve my skill to solve such problem quickly? It seems to take me long to solve this problem. and I am worried that it might take me long to write code later on as my brain does not seem to be robust :(Yep, practice, practice, practice.
