Coloured ribbons across screen

I have an intel imac running 10.4. Today whilst working on the computer it suddenly froze and I got patterned diagonal ribbons across the screen. On rebooting the first thing that appears are these ribbons and then 10.4 won't boot, except in 'Safe Boot' mode. Having booted in 'Safe' mode most things work fine except that these ribbons run right across the screen making it virtually illegible. One other problem in 'Safe' boot is that iTunes won't play songs. A friend told me to get rid of the 'fonts' folder and so I have done that - but to no avail. I am posting this from my macbook but really want my imac working properly again (I have had it for 10 months and never had a problem like this). Please help if you can!!

Thanks for your suggestion about ejecting the CD - that worked. At the moment I cannot boot in 'safe' mode. What happens is that immediately on turning the computer - before even the chime, I get diagonals of tiny coloured rectangles across the screen. It then goes clear blue and then tries (and fails) to book up - it just goes back to the tiny rectangles.
Following your advice I have tried putting the Install Disc 1 in and can see and follow the instructions which appear behind the ribbon effect, for the moment however I have not followed through the installation - will it mean I lose all my documents, files, etc. or does it simply replace the OS? I have much backed up, but as usual not everything and want to save the hard disc if I can. So is it safe to reinstall OS X? Also have you ever heard of this phenomenon before - i.e. windows appearing behind a lattice work of coloured tiny diagonals? Thanks for responding before, I have been away from my desk earlier today, hence the passage of time before replying.

  • Lumia 930 green colour running across screen

My Lumia 930 has a green colour running across the screen which started right to corner and slowly has run down. Over the space of a few months it has now almost completely covered the screen. Only really visible when the screen is white, in a movie or start screen you don't notice it.. I figured I'll need to change the screen but just wondered what it could be.. Nothing on the net about this phenomena...

    Hi blakkpanter,
Welcome to the Microsoft Mobile Community. When did you notice this issue? Did something happen prior to this issue? Try adjusting the colour tint on your phone. Follow the steps here. Also, check if all your phone's system apps are already updated. See this link. If the issue persists, try rebooting your phone by pressing and holding the power and volume down keys simultaneously for 10 to 15 seconds. You may need to set the date and time after this operation. Let us know the outcome.

    - See if placing the iPod in Recovery mode will allow a restore.. It bypasses the passcode (and erases the iPod)
    - Next try DFU mode

  • Titles don't scroll across screen anymore

On my new 30 GB iPod, the song titles scrolled across screen during playback but after I did a restore they now only appear static and are truncated if to long for the display screen. I rstored because I mistakenly thought there was a problem with the iPod when I tried to use it attached to my work computer - firewall issues. I can't find a configuration to enable that "feature"...

I'd like to see this change as well.. I sent in a request through the iPhone feedback form.
I understand the difficulty in trying to implement this though.. since track selection is a one step process on the iPhone (tap) versus a two step process on the iPod (wheel-select then exectute), you'd have to have all the long titles scrolling at the same time, which would look rather chaotic.
Maybe it could be done on the iPhone by having the title scroll if you tap-hold on the title.

  • Thin Horizontal Line Across Screen

I've had them before and they disappeared spontaneosly. The latest one seems to want to hang around. Any idea how to get rid of it?

This is a followup to my post earlier today. A web search on "Thin Horizontal Line Across Screen" turned up this article:
    http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/post24947-5.html
Sure enough, my horizontal line came back. I decided to follow the advice in the linked article. I didn't even have to twist the monitor. I barely tapped the screen as I was reaching up to twist the panel, and the line disappeared. This suggests to me that the problem is a loose internal connection between the driver circuitry and the panel.

  • Colour of the screen in SSHR (Java pages)

    Hi All.
Please let me know how to change the colour of the screen in SSHR (Java pages)?
    Thanks

You will need to create a custom cascading style sheet to do this. Pl see the App Framework Personalization Guide for 11i and 12 on how to do this.

  • Colours differ from screen when printing

Together with my Mac I bought Photoshop Elements9.  When printing the colours between the screen and the actual phot are vastly different. The printed colours are much darker.
My printer is a HP Photosmart D5460 which I have been using with my Photoshop Elements 6 and a laptop before and never had any colour problems.
    Please can anybody help me.

Is your monitor calibrated? For one thing, the current macs usually come with the monitor set to be very, very bright. Try reducing the brightness of the monitor and see if that helps. Also, be sure that you aren't double-managing color. Start by trying with the color management option in PSE set to Printer Manages Color, then make all your color, ink, paper, etc. choices in the OS X print dialog that opens AFTER you click Print in the Print window in PSE. If you decide then to try letting PSE manage color, make sure you turn color management off in the OS X print window.

  • Colourful streaks on screen. What happen

Colourful streaks on screen. Could it be hardware problem?

And within the year of replacement (or two years if you extend it) so I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. If it happens and doesn't go away take it to the store and get a new one (some folks will tell you it's not easy but don't listen to them because anyone who is determined can get a replacement easily).

I'd ask Apple to honor your expired apple care as this is a known issue with the 27" imac. I had the same problem with mine.
And no... typically, macs last a long time. I have a mac book pro and an old swivel display; both are still working great. This seems to be a lots issue of bad parts.

  • Colour lines appear across screen of iPad

    No accidents, or misshaps.
Just appeared and won't go away with any attempt to reset.
    Heard $410 to repair.
    has anyone found a solution
    Appreciatively,  harbourlights.

If they are like little streaks across the screen, they are probably dead pixels. Have you had this iPad for a long time? Usually this happens with older devices. I don't know of a way to fix this but if you heard that there is a way to repair is, and you think you want to do this, go ahead. But typically I would suggest that if this is an important thing, you should get a new iPad...
    Sorry that I couldn't help.

  • Coloured vertical lines across screen - logicboard?

my pbook is 26 months old. I had the screen replaced under the exchange program recently but it wouldn't seem that this is the root of my intermittent problem.
it started about 4 days ago - the screen had what looked like a pattern of yellow vertical stitching in regular intervals across the screen - the error repeats itself until the screen is quite busy with yellow stitching. yellow on top of white but sometimes magenta on top of the blue desktop. however, it doesn't always stay there. I close some windows and refresh that part of the screen and it can revert back to the normal desktop/ dock / folder appearance. I though it might be a screen connection issue but I think that's been ruled out by taking a screenshot and that showing the corruption. I've run disk utility and disk warrior and neither can find any problem. the issue is a little random when it strikes (but has happened more regularly when connected to the internet/mail) but more randomly it goes away and the actual working of the machine doesn't yet seem affected. also, actually applying gentle physical pressure or movement can make the lines disappear only to reappear later. (a bit like when your radio isn't tuned in and by touching the dial the reception gets stronger only to go back to being a sh1te reception when you take your hand off the dial!)
would there be any value in me doing a clean re-install or resetting anything if only to confirm that it's hardware rather than software - before I join the living torment of a repair waiting list?
please look at my screen shot

Boot on your MacOSX DVD while pressing ALT key. Select Apple Hardware test icon and run "extended tests"

  • IPhone 3G has horizontal line across screen

Today my iPhone developed a line across the screen where the colour is inverted all the time. A restart and a reset have not fixed it. Anyone else had this? Any cure or do I need to send it back (again)?

You will need to send it back or visit a local genius bar. They will do a restore on your phone before replacing it, I had this issue once. Good luck

  • Colour settings across Adobe

    Hi chaps,
Ive recently updated my eizo monitor colour using colormunki and colornavigator. I had left it too long before the last profile update, so i can see a difference and ultimately doubts come into play
What i noticed across photoshop/indesign, there are differences. In both Photoshop and Indesign, both Proof Setup is set to Working CYMK with iso coated v2 (ECI)
From below, ive got 3 vertical screen grabs. The blue is rather consistent apart a slightly different blue box in the middle of the indesign grab. This square contains the CYMK values from the original PS file (99 C, 100 M) and the background is the actual ps file placed in indesign (and the preview was set to high quality). What is strange that when i export to pdf, the box disappears and the blue looks consistent across the page.
..any thoughts as to where i can make changes?
    Thanks in advance

Also, I assume you are only trying to match background colors to demonstrate the CMYK color problem?
Photoshop and InDesign manage color the same way so usually there's not much reason to make CMYK conversions in PS unless you have to make a post CMYK color correction. So you can pick a favorite RGB editing space and set the RGB policies to Preserve Embedded and let the conversion happen to the correct CMYK space  on export from InDesign.
In Photoshop you can see the effect of converting to your CMYK working space without actually making the conversion by turning on Proof Colors with the Proof Setup set to Working CMYK. In the Info panel you can see the future CMYK values by setting an eyedropper to Proof Color. Similarly in ID you can turn on Overprint/Separation Preview to see RGB previewed in the document's CMYK profile.

  • Toolbar slow and error box flashes across screen

i noticed that when i startup my new install of mountain lion, not only does my toolbar take a while to load up and is initially missing a few icons but also a box flashes across the screen after a few seconds.  I cannot read what it is because its so fast, but i was wondering what could be causing this.
i initially upgrades the software but my machine was really slow.. so i did a clean install using my external hardrive and then went in and migrated data from a timecapsule backup.
i had alot of sporadic issues with this new operating system and i am frustrated.  any ideas?

    Hi Gulliver
Thanks again. On Monday the machine refused to boot at all. I started it from the DVD and disk utility couldn't see the HDD; took it to our PC tech support folks yesterday and asked them to have the drive out. They put it in a test machine and ran Fujitsu's diagnostics which reported no errors. On putting it back into my machine the problems appear to be solved We are guessing that there was a loose connection in the ribbon cable that connects the drive to the main board!! Reseating it seemed to solve it. I bought a second 80 Gb drive and cloned the disk, updated to 10.4.6 and am now hoping for the best. Thank you again for your attention to my problem.
    Cheers
    George
