Colouring B&W photos

If you convert a colour photo to black and white, is it possible to undo parts of it to change them back to colour? Say, a black and white photo with just one person in the middle in colour

• Sampeling a colour from a photo places in Illy CS4

Hoping this is a simple one to figure out. In CS3 I would drop a photo into the document and then using the eyedropper I would just sample colours from the photo. CS4 wont sample full stop - pulling my hair out and grinding to a halt on the whole workflow - anyone had the same problem or can offer a solution.
Not really loving CS4 at all - I work in it about 8 hours a day 6 days a week and after 3 weeks I'm still hoping that after time all these little tweaks will make sense....
Ah well - hoping someone can help with the photo thing :-)

By default, the eyedropper sample the appearance of object, If you want
to sample color from an image with that default you need to use the
shift key when sampling. Or double-click the eyedropper and uncheck
Appearance.

• Help with Part Coloured B&W Photos

Hi Guys,
I am a bit of a novice with PE 8 and was wondering is someone could give me a few clues where to begin with part colouring a b&w photo.
What I would like to do is take a picture of a stndalone tree that is in blossom. I want the tree trunk and branches in b&w along with the background but want the blossom to remain in its natural colour.
Like I say I don't really know where to begin some clues would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Den

image23,
Open picture
Duplicate background layer
Open a hue/saturation adjustment layer above this. To do this, click on the black/white circular icon at the bottom of the layers palette
Slide the saturation slider all the way to the left
On the adjustment layer, left click the layer mask (the white rectangle)
Set your foregrond color chip (lower left) to black
Access the brush tool and with the black brush paint where you want the color to appear
TIPS:
If you go too far, paint with a white brush to correct
The bracket keys [ & ] can be used to alter the brush size
x on the keyboard toggles between black & white

• Loss of vivid colours in I Photo Album

Looking through my I Photo Album I am disappointed with the colours, they seem very flat and much of the vivid colour has been lost. The overall quality of the album is excellent but I just need to bring some life to the photos, I have a reasonable camera and prints from other sources have been perfect, is there something I can do in the settings? is it possible to have a gloss setting? I am using I Photo 8  Thanks very much in advance

You can't, likely your best solution is to use iPhoto to make each album into a slideshow.

• Please Help! - Program changes photo colours automatically when photos uploaded?

I use photoshop elements 2.0.
When I upload photos the program automatically changes the photo colours to a duller shade across the whole photo... brighter rich colours are lost.
(i have tested that it isnt just that the colours appear different in photoshop but not when saved by uploading photos into photoshop, doing nothing to them but save it, then compare the original and the saved photo - the colours differ significantly.)
Restoring the original colours is difficult but I attempt to get close using the Enhance - adjust brightness/ contrast.
I am sure that this isn't a universal program fault so perhaps one of my settings is wrong?? It has done it since I bought it but up to now I have lived with it however it is really starting to put me off using photoshop when the striking natural colours are lost.
I am sure other photographers dont have this problem so there must be something i can do to solve it.
Please any help would be grately appreciated as to why this may be happening
Amy

This is not a Photography issue but an application specific question.  Try posting in the Photoshop Elements forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop_elements
If you're lucky, you'll find someone there who still remembers that ancient version of Elements.  Currently they're at version 9.

• IPhone 4s changes the colour of the photos

I Hi all,
I have got an Iphone 4s. I was thrilled that I can take black and white photos, but something is not right. When I take a photo it is black and white, but as soon as I click on it to select, it becames colourful. Why? When I look at all the photos I have on the phone, I can see which ones are black and white, but when I want to post them somewhere, they arent black and white any more. Any idea? Is it something silly and simple?
Help please.

Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
No data is lost due to a reset.

• I have a problem with the colour on my photos

when Iprint from my PHOTOSMART 5510 e ALL IN ONE the colour is all off what do I need to do thanks

Hi jazz1, are you having the problem with all print jobs or just when you try printing via ePrint e.g. sending a piece of content to your printers email address?.
If its happening when you're using the printer "normally" (just printing to it from your desktop or laptop PC via the driver) then you need to print a print quality diagnostic page from the printer software on your desktop to see if one or more of the colours is not printing. Checking the ink levels could also tell you if you're out of one or more inks.
Let me know how you get on.

• Iphoto..constant spinning colour wheel, no photo's, nothing works, Help!!!

A few weeks ago I was loading images from my slr like usual, nothing different from the last hundred times I have done it. After this upload the next time I signed into iphoto, it opened, no images were displaying and I instantly have the little colour wheel spinning, this can go on all day as I have tried and it never changes. Anyhow backed up images and decided to update my 8.1 version using the apple apps store. Done that and it ask to upgrade library, done that, then it`s just the same, spinning wheel and the a larger one in the centre of the page. Needless to say no improvement what so ever. I even uploaded 9.1 and that wont even save to my HD.
So after all that I deleted iphoto from my computer and installed a fresh version from my bundle software disc, it uploaded iphoto and I clicked on it, needless to say I am back to square one, just blank page, spinning colour wheel. I can see the options at the top of my mac put cannot click on them, all I can do is force quite. Whats wrong with my iphoto, I need it to work, why wont it.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

• Why do the colours of the photos change when viewing a slideshow in Lightroom 5.2?

The images appear less saturated with a green-ish tint while viewing the images on a calibrated Macbook Pro Retina display 15".
Any solutions are appreciated. Thanks.

I don't see the desaturation you describe on my own 15" retina but what you describe is definitely not strange and out of character for the Slideshow module. The slideshow module is quite bad to start with and has been such since the start of Lightroom. Pity as the rest of Lightroom is quite good.  It might work in a pinch but even the free iPhoto that is already on your Mac does a better job. It's not a bad idea to simply export some jpegs and show them in iPhoto. You get many more transitions and you can do the zooming and panning. I use Keynote myself for complete control and text overlays/effects. This now is also a free download from the app store with any recent Mac. Just avoid saving your files on the silly Apple cloud.

• Noting colour changes in photo cast corrections

I have a series of negative scans that have a slight tobacco tint to them. I use either Auto Color or the grey and white droppers to remove the cast, but there are so many images I just want to apply a general correction to them all and see if I can get a close match.
Is there some way to note the color change, without recording actions such as dropper location, so that I can create something like a droplet to batch change all the files, or is there some other more efficient way to achieve this?
Thanks

Fully automating this does not usually give a good result, but semi auto does...
What I do is pick a middle range image, do the adjustment with a 'levels' layer to the whole frame (no mask) and then open other images in the background and drag and drop the adjustment layer from the layers palette in the first image to the image area of the next one, where it will bring the adjustment with it and you can tweak a little on the next image.
You can do the same by setting the adjustment in the first image and then going to the next image and hold option while clicking on 'add adj layer/levels' button.
Holding option while creating a new adj layer sets the adjusters to the previously set levels, I like drag and drop because it is simpler!

• Two questions as a new user how do I default to colour and duplicate photo removal

Can anyone help please it appears that lightroom accepts duplicate exposures how do I remove them, is there a facility in light room to prevent duplication entries and subsequent removal.
Thanks

Import screen R/H side
As far as I am aware you will have to remove them manually.

• I-Photo colours on ATV

I have been transferring some 1960's 35mm colour slides onto i-photo using MediaImpression and they look great - when I stream them across to my Apple TV the blue on every slide shows up as green - I have tried adjusting the colour on i-photo but it makes no difference and I can't see any way to change the colour/shades on the actual Apple Tv - any ideas as to how to get the colours to stream across with greater accuracy?

789piglet wrote:
Thanks for the quick response - colours are all Ok on films and current digital photo's - don't have any video to stream myself. Not sure what you mean by connected via component - but all 3 cables in the "video" slots on the back of the ATV are very secure.
well the appletv has 2 connection types
component or HDMI.
component has 3 separate coloured connectors.
HDMI is only thin plug.
the fact that all your other images display OK would suggest it's not an appletv issues you have.
it could be that the format of your problematic images is the issue.

• How to avoid photoshop from changing colours of photos automatically?

Photoshop automatically change the colour of my photos when dragged and dropped for contouring. How to avoid this?

PS doesn't change any colors. You need to read up on color management and calibrate your system.

RK1 hope  you are doing well and welcome to the HP forums;
It sounds like the photo paper is not absorbing the ink. Have you try another photo paper batch?,  I will suggest going Point of Purchase (POP) of the paper and asking them for a exchange on the paper or a refund.
Let me know if I can help any further;

• 3000 C200 Monitor issue - Desktop displays inverted colours (like photo negatives)

Hi,
My LCD monitor is displaying EVERYTHING in inverted colours (desktop, websites, photos etc.)  It just started doing this earlier today when I moved the laptop from my desk to the couch.  Can someone tell me how I can fix this, or if there is a utility (for Windows XP) that enables my PC to invert colours (for the whole computer, not just for images).
I have adjusted display properties and checked High Contrast in Accessibility options.  I have also tried PowerStrip and different magnifiers, and I have checked that my video and adapter drivers are up to date.  I believe that this is a problem with the LCD screen and not with my settings.  If it is a physical problem with the monitor then my warranty has run out so I would appreciate it if you can recommend the correct parts to buy to fix this or possibly a tutorial to show me how to open the monitor and fix it myself.
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, prohyster
Try downloading one of so called "LiveCD"-s, for example hiren's , or PartedMagic or another program that can use 32-bit colour in non-windows enviroment (Linux is acceptable also as non-windows enviroment ) and check whether the problem persists. If colours are normal, the problem is in drivers or registry tweak, thus haven't hear about such thing ever.
Another (simpliest) way is to take screenshot and e-mail it to someone that owns a normal-colour-displaying comp. If the screenshot is clear (colours are ok), then problem is in your LCD and you'll have to have a pleasant date with service-centre =)
