Column break with non NumericKeyboard

On the non numeric pad Apple Keybroard, which button is responsible so that my text jump to the next collumn like its done on the numeric Apple keyboard? What button is for the column break?

The text engine is similar but no the same and there simply is no way to access this capabilty in Illustrator but as you point out if Adobe wanted to do so it would be possible since the text engine supports it.
But try as we have we have not to date been able to convince Adobe it is necessary in Illustrator no matter how many times the issue has come up.

  • Help Needed - replacing space with non-breaking space on the fly

    Hi,
I have a text field I'm trying to fiddle the input on. Basically I want to replace all spaces (ascii code 32) with non-breaking spaces (ascii code 160) as they are typed.
It seemed as though a KeyListener was the way to go, and I've successfully detected whenever a space is sent. I can consume() that KeyEvent, or setKeyChar to change it to another key. But I cannot see how to change it to a non-keyboard character.

  • Problem with column break in word 2010

    Hi,
I have a 2 column document. Some how i feel it has inserted a column break in the middle of page 7 of my word document which consists of 12 pages. It is a reviewed document & tracking is also going on and 'Track Changes: On' message is also visible on my
progress bar. On page 7 i have a figure also which is one column wide. The text above this figure goes on to next column after 9th line. There is still a 3 line gap between my text & figure. But its moving the text to next column. After the figure it shows
me the text which should come after the moved text. It was showing me section break continuous but then i deleted it but still the problem persists. Please guide me how to fix this problem.

    Hello,
I have replicated and confirmed the problem with LabVIEW 2010, Report Generation Toolkit 2010 and Word 2010.  I have filed this to R&D under CAR ID #257414.  As a workaround you can manually set each cell using Word Edit Cell.vi.  I have attached a simplified representation of this unexpected behavior as well as the workaround.  Hopefully this helps everyone out!

I seen an entry in DBA weeky activities s that
"Listing foreign keys with non matching column
definitions" . What is meant by that?. How to pick up
that? Most probably find columns which are part of foreign keys, but their respective primary key column have different length (AFAIK data type cannot be different).
Data dictionary can help you in that, I'll give you hints where to look at:
user/all/dba_constraints - foreign and primary keys
user/all/dba_cons_columns - columns which are part of constraints
user/all/dba_tab_columns - column definitions of tables
However creating query from these data dictionary views could be a nice task for you :)

  • Oracle 10g - Defining the column name in Non English

    Hi Experts,
I have an exisitng application which is developed on Windows using ASP Technology and uses Oracle 10g 10.1.0.2.0.
The application is supported with an instance of Data Base within which multiple tablespaces are created for different clients. The application is developed in such a way that some of the tables arecreated dynamically and the columns are named using the data entered through the UI.
This application needs to be globalized now. The problem is, the column name entered through the UI can be in any language based on the client's settings and those values in turn will be used for naming the columns in the tables.
    1) Can I have the column names to be named using non english characters in Oracle 10g DB? If so,
1.1) what should I do to configure the exisiting Oracle instance to support it?
1.2) To what level is that configuration possible, is it per DB instance level (or) can it be done at Tablespace level. I would like to configure each tablespace to host tables with columns defined with different languages, say for example, tablespace 1 will have tables with Japaenese column names and tablespace 2 will have tables with German column names?
    2) What should I do to make my entire DB to support unicode data i.e., to accept any language strings. Currently all strings are declared as VarChar2, should I change all VarChar2 to NVarChar2 (or) is there a way to retain the VarChar2 as is and make some database wide setting?
Please note that I do not have an option of retaining the column in English as per the Business Requirement.

  • Report column breaking - display text centred in cell

    Hi,
I am looking for some help achieving the following:
I have a report which has column breaks on the first three columns. Currently, when the report is displayed, the first column value is displayed in the top row with the rows underneath blank and so on for columns 2 and 3. Then the data for the other columns is displayed as normal.
What I want to do is have the column values that are used in the break spanning the rows they break over so the text is displayed centred (vertically)
    ie:
    Col1     Col2     Col3           Col4     Col5
                                    dat1     dat2
                                    dat2     dat3
    val1     val2     val3          dat4     dat5
                                    dat6     dat7
                                    dat8     dat9
    val2    xx        xxx         xx        xx
________________________________________________ (Hope this works in ascii!!!) - Col1,2,3 etc are the columns - ignore the vals and dats - they're just data placeholders.
    All help much appreciated! :)

  • Lowercase first letter in column name of non-interactive report..Again

A couple of days ago a posted a question on how to make the column name in a non-interactive report
come out as lowercase. (original post: Lowercase first letter in column name of non-interactive report
I am using Theme13, which is probably the only theme that forces the first letter
of a column name in a report to uppercase.
Anyway, I received several responses including the answer which I applied to my page.
Then I went back to make the column sortable and that negates the CSS override and
the first letter in the column name is back to uppercase...arrrggghhh!
Are there any further suggestions on how to force this to lowercase with theme 13 and a sortable column?

  • Multiple row column-sharing with GridBadLayout does not work as expected

I was trying to figure out why I could not initially accomplish the following with a GridBagLayout:
    Row0: 0000011111
    Row1:      1111122222
Row2:           2222233333The above is supposed to be 3 JLabels on three different rows:
The 1st row has a single JLabel starting in column 0 with a width of 2, extending it to column 1.
The 2nd row has a single JLabel starting in column 1 with a width of 2, extending it to column 2.
The 3rd row has a single JLabel starting in column 2 with a width of 2, extending it to column 3.
The entire grid is 4 columns and 3 rows total.
Below I have two examples where I attempted the above. Only the 2nd example produces the desired effect. The 1st code example ends up putting both the Row 0 and Row 1 JLabel in the same column. This was surprising because I thought the GridBagLayout would give each column contained by a control enough weight to actually make those columns exist.
Here is what my first code example below produces:
    Row0: 0000011111
    Row1: 1111122222
Row2:           2222233333The first two JLabels, 0000011111 and 1111122222, appear in the same column, and the 3rd JLabel appears in the seemingly 2nd column. This was confusing to me which is the point of this whole post.
In order to gain the desired effect, I had to place 4 blank dummy empty JLabel components in a non-visible Row 0 of the grid. I did this for all 4 columns of that invisible row 0. The row is non-visible because the JLabel have no text or output. After adding this non-visible Row 0, all of the original mentioned Rows 0 through 2 become Rows 1 through 2 respectively.
    For example:
    Row0: iiiiiIIIIIiiiiiIIIII
    Row1: 0000011111
    Row2:      1111122222
Row3:           2222233333The above shows an inserted Row 0 with invisible labels that are not seen, but they seem to give weight to each column, allowing each to exist. Without doing this, as mentioned, the first code example (shown below) fails. The second example (also below) works, so it appears that putting the invisible controls into the first row, one in each column, somehow gives enough weight to each column to "establish" the column more so than otherwise.
The big question I have is why didn't the first example work?
I mean, in that example, I'm giving each JLabel equal weight, and each one takes up a width of 2 columns, so why doesn't the JLabel in the second row end up in column 1? Instead, both the original row 0 and row 1 JLabels appear in what looks like column 0, the same column. Does anyone know why this happened?
The invisible control solution is fine but I'm just curious why it wasn't as intuitive as it should have been. The only thing I can come up with is that the weight of the 1st and 2nd JLabel (row 0 and 1) got combined in some fashion which combined them into column 1 which end up looking like column 0 since 0 somehow looses all weight. (???)

I think I figured out the general reason for the problem based on a quick trace through of the GridBadLayout code in a simple example, and I wanted to share my findings in case they may be useful to anyone else. I felt there were some concepts gleaned from the source code that don't appear reinforced with documentation or, more importantly, in tutorials or books I checked. That's why I wanted to share my findings with this simple yet perplexing example.
This example is very much like the one in my original post except it is more simple and only uses two JLabels.
I created a grid with the following settings:
    JLabel1,gridx=0,gridy=0,gridwidth=2,weightx=1.0
JLabel2,gridx=1,gridy=1,gridwidth=2,weightx=1.0Using the character '1' for JLabel1, and the character '2' for JLabel2, and 'x' for an "empty" grid cell, the above gives me the following simple conceptual layout:
    11x
x22But the 'x' cell columns don't receive any weight, so things actually appear as follows:
    11
22Internally, GridBagLayout (GBL), is really producing the following:
    11x
x22But since the 'x' locations take no weight, they therefore get no size, so both JLabels appear as though they are in the first and only column.
From what I can see, it doesn't really matter what I do, I'll never be able to produce the following effect with just two JLabels:
    11x
x22I cannot do the above with just two JLabel components and a GridBagLayout. The reason is that the GridBagLayout, while it does define a "grid" of rows and columns, the grid is not a grid that actually relates to what is displayed. It's really a grid that defines what I'll refer to as "weight collisions" or "weight pools." If two components share, say, a grid column, their weights will combine with respect to that column. But the total size of the grid doesn't play a role in enforcing that some sort of grid display is maintained. The grid can possibly do that, but it would probably be safer to view that result as a side-effect produced by using the "weight pools" created by the grid itself.
In the above simple example, JLabel1 ends up giving gridx 1 (0 being first) its full weight of 1.0. The gridx 0 column receive zero weight from JLabel1. What happens is the code in GridBagLayout sees that there are no presently assigned weights to column 0 and it simply assigns all remaining unassigned weight of JLabel1 to JLabel1's last, right-most in this case, gridx column. This means that gridx 1 gets the full 1.0.
By contrast, though, when processing JLabel2, the GridBagLayout sees the previously assigned 1.0 to gridx 1 (JLabel1's right-most grid column) and it ends up assigning all of JLabel2's weight to that same grid location, gridx 1. In this case, even though JLabel2 supposedly spans through to gridx 2, the actual gridx 2 column gets 0 weight from JLabel2 and therefore gets no width.
The result is that both JLabel1 and JLabel2 give 100% of their weight to gridx column 1 (what I called above a "weight pool" rather than a grid location), and both gridx 0 and gridx 2 receive 0 weight and I'm guessing appear without any size. What's odd about this is that even though JLabel1 starts at gridx=0, it really doesn't draw itself anywhere but starting at gridx=1. Likewise, even though JLabel2 draws itself supposedly from gridx=1 through to gridx=2, it doesn't really go into gridx=2 because gridx=2 doesn't get any width.
In fact, given the code in GridBagLayout, it doesn't matter how much weight I give to either JLabel, all 100% of the weight will end up in gridx 1, the "center" grid location. The only way to get columnar distribution is to create other components to force the GridBagLayout to see individual columns which match the "grid." When I do this, the columns allow me to create the JLabels in a fashion where they intent/stagger, where a JLabel can start at a "column" location that is in the middle of another JLabel.
Given this, I've come to the conclusion that it's not worthwhile to look at the GBL "grid" as a grid that propagates grid-like visual locations. It's more like the grid exists during the computation of weights which end up determining the true columns and rows that will visually exist, which may well not be anything like the grid locations one might visualize when looking at the constraints used.
I think it's unfortunate that many examples and tutorials don't reinforce this concept with simple examples that help one grasp this easily. Most examples I see actually can fool a user into thinking a grid is a true grid in that positions represent visual locations, or that a control spanning into a grid column means that weight will be (at least) partially distributed there.
You very often won't see the problem I'm describing above when you have dialogbox-like alignment of components which most tutorials and examples utilize. For example, if I take the same example as above, but intent JLabel so that it's gridx is 2, not 1, then both JLabels will not be sharing a single grid column so their weights won't collide. In such a case, one might be misled into thinking that a GridBagLayout's grid is truly providing row/col locations when it's not really doing that. Instead, in this latter case, one is really gaining that effect because certain unintuitive weight collisions. which would produce unexpected results, are being avoided.
I thought weightx values would give a weight equally to all gridx columns that a component spans but that doesn't seem to be the case here. In fact, it's not even a components first column in my simple example above. GBL causes JLabel1 to given all its weight to gridx=1 (and nothing to gridx=0) while GBL causes JLabel2 to give all its weight to gridx=1 (and nothing to gridx=2). In one case, JLabel1, all weight goes to its right-most spanned-to column, while with JLabel2, it goes to JLabel2's entire first gridx location.
I guess this is what makes GridBagLayout (GBL) unintuitive. But I don't think it's so much unintuitive as it is probably not well documented. When you look at the source code, it explains stuff which should be in the docs. In fact, not one single book I saw gave any help in solving this problem. I'm guessing this is largely because folks use GBL through trial and error until they get what they want, and perhaps they don't often need to indent halfway as I'm trying to do with GBL in the above example. If a lot of components are aligned, the results are not as unexpected. I'd say, though, that even in those not-so-confusing cases, GBL can troublesome without knowing its grid is all about a grid of weight pools which may or may not produce a visual grid depending on all components' constraint settings.

When I insert one in manually, it shows as only 2 inches wide.
A tiopic with this short break does not show as a non-scroll header and does not get included in the browse sequence
    Any ideas folks?

Funny you should ask as I've been trying to figure this out too!
This is a Word 2007 issue - I assume you are using Office 2007? I am using RH7, but I believe my solution will work for you because it is Word, not RH.
Anyhow, assuming my Word 2007 assumption is spot-on, you need to change word options.
Go to the Office button, select Word Options.
    Select Advanced.
Scroll to bottom of the window and look for Compatibility options (very bottom of the window).
    Expand the layout options.
Check "don't split apart page break and paragraph mark". (You can apply this to the current open doc you see or all docs - if all docs, you will probably change the global normal template, which you may not want to do.)
    Click Okay.
Note, if you go to recheck the setting, the format is now listed as "custom".
Specifically, what was happening is the page break was taking on a "normal" style with 0pts before and after. This caused for me a big gap between the top of the help window and my heading 1 style. (I have my Heading 1 style set to 6pt before and 2pt after and font is 12pt.) Changing the above makes the page break itself take on the Heading 1 style which then also expands across the draft window instead only a couple inches. Other than affecting how the Heading 1 might appear in the compiled help system, I don't see any probelm with using the page break with the normal style applied to it, however, it is a little disconcerting. I noticed this particularly in the Outline view as I sort the pages in my the doc alphabetically based on Heading 1 so I can locate info easily by client name. When I used the "normal" or should I say "abnormal" style page break, these page breaks were excluded from the sort and I had no page breaks! (At least there is still an undo option!)
I'm not sure, but you may need to modify the robohelp.dot template to keep this permanent for your robohelp for word help systems.
In addition, your heading style probably does not have the paragraph format setting set to "keep with next", so change the style and that should add the non-scroll to the header.
One final piece of advice, have the "developer" tab showing in the ribbon. This allows you to access the template and see the styles in your doc. I would  uncheck the "automatically update" option so that when you reopen the doc, it doesn't lose any doc specific style changes you made.

  • Column break in nested matrix

    Hi guys,
I created a report of some quality test results containing table with nested matrix for details. I need the
sub-matrix  to be grouped by row and by
column and limit the number of result columns in row (to fit the width of report neatly). I went trough the articles about doing column group break already:
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/32f28407-e1ca-457e-92fd-d292e32dde4e/limit-no-of-columns-in-ssrs-matrix-report?forum=sqlreportingservices
    http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/ea9d795b-8d17-41d2-a1d7-a4069ebb4539/forum-faq-how-do-i-achieve-column-break-in-a-matrix?forum=sqlreportingservices (I have used the 2nd workaround)
My solution without the column count limit feature works perfectly. But when trying to break, the report seems to associate the column groups related to another parent table row, because the number of result grouped columns in row is
less or equal to the set number (=4) as follows:
    Test type Test
    A A1
    Parameter A1-1 A1-2 A1-3 A1-4 // OK - break made after 4 columns of A1
    Min x x x x
    Max y y y y
    Measured z z z z
Parameter A1-5 A1-6 // OK - break made after test type A1 (?Bug cause: "column count 2 for now")
    Min x x
    Max y y
    Measured z z
    A2
Parameter A2-1 // OK - break made after test type A2 (?Bug cause: "column count 3 for now")
    Min x
    Max y
    Measured z
    B B1
Parameter B1-1 // Not OK - break already made after 1st column (?Bug cause: "column count 4 for now:"=>BREAK)
    Min x
    Max y
    Measured z
    Parameter B1-2 B1-3 B1-4 // OK - break made after test type B1
    Min x x x
    Max y y y
    Measured z z z
    C C1
    Parameter C1-1 C1-2 C1-3 C1-4 // OK - break made after 4 columns of C1
    Min x x x x
    Max y y y y
    Measured z z z z
    Parameter C1-5 C1-6 // OK - break made after test type C1
    Min x x
    Max y y
    Measured z z
I have modified the proposed function script for my purposes - set the reset of ID counter in the header of  parent row test, set the column ID  as concatenation of all level values (test type, test and watched parameter),  played with ordering
of data and extra grouping, but with no success.
Does anybody have a suggestion what is going on and how to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Marion
PS: I'm sorry for the table illustration (done the best that I could). As a newbie I'm not allowed to post with picture.
Edit: Do you need some extra information to help? Does somebody have an idea how to achieve the same design with column break some other way?

    Hi,
The column break needs to reset when it starts a new row grouping.  The customer code therefore needs parameters for the row grouping and for the column grouping.
The code below is slightly different to a lot of examples.
Creating hashtables would keep a record of every column value, so for large reports, this would use a small but significant amount of memory.  It only needs to know when it changes.  I've also used static variables as the scope only needs to be
the function and not global, plus this makes it a single module of code which helps on larger projects.
The ceiling calculation has been replaced with some integer maths to prevent odd rounding issues that cause hard to trace/reproduce bugs.  E.G. a 4 column should be 4-4-4-4-4 but 16 /4 should be 4 but might be
4.000000000000001.  Ceilling then returns 5 so you end up with a column jumping to the next line :- 4-3-5-4-4.
Note that everything that used to calculate the row grouping should be concatenated as a single parameter for the most robust solution.  In the example the sub group is unique for the entire dataset so is not an issue, but if a sub group is only unique
in the group, there is a small change of a miscalculation.
    Here's my solution:
    In the code
    Function GroupFunction(
    ByVal NewGroup as string ,
    ByVal NewColumn as string ,
ByVal ColumnBreak as Integer ) As Integer
static OldGroup as string = ""
static OldColumn as string = ""
static RecordCount as integer = 0
if (OldGroup <> NewGroup ) then
    OldGroup = NewGroup
    OldColumn = ""
    RecordCount = RecordCount + ( ColumnBreak - RecordCount Mod ColumnBreak )
    end if
    if (OldColumn <> NewColumn) then
    OldColumn = NewColumn
    RecordCount = RecordCount +1
    end if
    GroupFunction =RecordCount +
    ( ColumnBreak - (RecordCount - 1) Mod ColumnBreak )
    End Function
    In the report
    = Code.GroupFunction( Fields!MainGroup.Value & ":" & Fields!SubGroup.Value   , Fields!Parameter.Value , 4 )
If you want a different number of columns, you can change the 4 to a report parameter.

  • Press enter puts column break instead of line break in

does anyone know why pressing enter puts column break instead of line break in - I loaded InDesign on my Windows 8 notebook?

Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts... and make a new set.
Change the Product Area dropdown to Type and Tables, then scroll down the list to Insert Break Character: Paragraph Break and then put your cursor in the new shortcut box. Press the Enter key on the numpad and change the context to Text. You'll get a warning that the shortcut is already assigned below the shortcut field, but just click the assign button.
If you want a new shortcut for the column break, scroll back up to that one, then type in a new shortcut. You can use the ctrl, alt and shift modifier keys if you like, along with anything other than a key on the numpad.

  • Column break problem in word 2010

    Hi,
I have a 2 column document. Some how i feel it has inserted a column break in the middle of page 7 of my word document which consists of 12 pages. It is a reviewed document & tracking is also going on and 'Track Changes: On' message is also visible on
my progress bar. On page 7 i have a figure also which is one column wide. The text above this figure goes on to next column after 9th line. There is still a 3 line gap between my text & figure. But its moving the text to next column. After the figure it
shows me the text which should come after the moved text. Please guide me how to fix this problem.

  • Column break

Is there such a thing as a column break in Illustrator
ie: To force the text to the top of the next column
    Steve

Lou your were joking but that has been the stumbling block in getting this very simply feature into Illustrator. There are some very intelligent
and knowledgeable users of Illustrator here on the forum who have argued against using resources for this because they just make another text box,
align them and then group them and they don't seem to think you even need columns when you can do this?
How would hitting the enter key to move to the next column save time, is their thinking and some of them did not think multiple artboards were useful.
of I agree with you fully except for the multiple page thing, I do not really think a multiple page feature is what Illustrator needs the artboards are much better for Illustrator since they can vary in dimensions from one art board to the next have have artboards within artboards and be exported via printing to pdf with a range of artboards. That is more powerful in some ways then just pages.
There is however a future for output as pages and spreads which would be good especially if it could be both for Acrobat and InDesign formats. That could be cool..
    What do you think?
