Column choices in Mail

How can I get column views customized to each folder?
I like being able to see a "from" column in my inbox, but I don't need to know where messages came from in my sent folder, obviously. I tried turning on "to" and turning off "from" for the sent folder, but then that changed the column views for my inbox.
There has to be a way to just show "from" for the inbox messages and "to" for the sent messages, but how?
Powerbook G4 1.33 / 15.2   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I am having the exact same problem, that I can't set separate column views for each of my folders. I can get it to stick for Inbox and Sent, the ones Mail has automatically designated. But I have another folder on the hard drive where I store all Sent Mail more than one month old (not enough room to store that on the server). I would like to set that folder on the hard drive to show "To" and not "From" without affecting all the other folder views.
It's surprising that Mail isn't designed to allow this!

  • Choices in Mail heading

Suddenly all the choices for Mail---Reply,Forward,Get Mail,New Message, etc
have disappeared. I an not able to do anything. All the old non-removed messages are still there. I can still go to Sent,In,Out,Trash. However, I cannot reply to emails, send a new email , or even get mail now. I think it may have happened when I was responding to an email to tell them to take me off their list. Mail crashed at that instant. When I went back to Mail, all the headings were gone.

At the upper right of the Mail.app window is a clear pill shaped button. Selecting this button at any Mail.app window (composing a message, the Mail.app preferences, etc.) opens/hides the toolbar for that window or function.

  • Cannot resize the message 'read/unread' column in leopard mail.

I cannot seem to resize the message 'read/unread' column in leopard mail. All other columns (from, subject, date received, size etc) can be resized as normal, however the read/unread "blue dots" are taking up an inordinate amount of space and will not for the life of me resize!
it is driving me crazy...is this a leopard bug or am I just doing something wrong? thank you very much.

  • How to set column headers in Mail on MacBook Pro?

In Mail on my MacBook Pro I have a number of columns set as a default view in Mail - To, Subject, Date etc
I want to add Mailbox (as I have more than one mail account) as a default header.
When I right click on the header bar and add it, it works but next time I log on it's gone again.
How do I add Mailbox as a column permanently?

Can anybody help me with this?
I anticipated it would be quite a straight forward issue.
I presume I've posted it on the right forum but please advise if not.

  • How to autosize column widths in Mail?

One of the nice features in Windows that I can't seem to find in OS X is the ability to quickly auto adjust the column widths.
In Outlook, you can either double click one column heading divider to adjust that column's width, or double click the furthest (to the right) column heading divider and all of the columns adjust their width for best viewing.
In Mail, I have to drag each of the column dividers to adjust the width.
If I resize the Mail window, I need to adjust them again.
I haven't been able to find an easy way to do this.
Does this feature exist in Mail?

no. you have to adjust the column widths individually by hand.

  • Column order in Mail (or From column won't stick)

Not my first post about this, but thought I'd try again. Back in January I was asking if anyone else had the issue where the From column just won't stay on the left side. I like From, Subject, Date, To. But one way or another, the From column jumps over to the left of To. ALL THE TIME.
Anyway, I switched to Entourage and have been using it for 8 months. But I was missing some Apple-gui-goodness and thought I'd try Mail again.
One day has passed, same problem.
So I know there's at least a few of you with this problem, but now my question is this - does not -everyone- have this problem, or just nobody else cares? Do YOU have this issue, and if so, why are you not pulling your hair out?
It's also during research like this when I see just how inaccessible Apple support really is. I've bought Applecare on every Mac I've ever owned, yet I just can't bring myself to spend an hour with someone on the phone with a...uhhh....well, an accent I have trouble understanding. Not to mention the mind-numbing-madness of rebooting, deleting prefs, root user, blah blah blah. I've tried it all.
Maybe I just needed to vent.
I'm going back to Entourage, because Mail is still a POS (it's Junk filtering is basically worthless as well, compared to Entourage, but I'd live with it if the stinking columns would stay put).
But please tell me, how is it that there's not thousands of people screaming and complaining about this? Am I just one of the cursed????? Sigh.

JF, I did understand you. It seems you've misunderstood me, though.
    My desired arrangement:
    FROM / SUBJECT / DATE / TO
And that's what I've been using these 4 days without a hitch. My preferred arrangement is this:
    Subject / From / To / Date
move on if you wish, I was kind of hoping for some fresh
    insight - nothing personal
It seems you missed the smiley. I'm willing to figure out what's going on here, and that's the reason I've been trying to reproduce the problem. But I can't, that's all. I'm just wondering whether, according to your observations, I should leave the settings that way a few more days before giving up.
Also note that the -only- other column visible is the 'dot'
column (message status?) that you can't remove anyway.
In my case, I also have visible (both before and after making the change) Flags on the left and Size / Attachments on the right, i.e. my preferred arrangement is this:
    Flags / Read Status / Subject / From / To / Date / Size / Attachments
What I've been using the last 4 days (and am still using) is this:
    Flags / Read Status / From / Subject / Date / To / Size / Attachments
I clicked on the 'Drafts' mailbox, then back to the Inbox
Just tried it. No change. Your preferred arrangement sticks for me no matter what...

  • Best way to access Choice column 'choices'?

    Hi,
Background: I have a Choice field passed down from a Content Type Hub to a content type used in a Document Library in another site collection. This choice column has a lot of 'choice entries' (<Choice 1>, <Choice 2>
etc....). These entries will probably increase or possibly change in time. A colleague is writing a simple front end solution that uses a separate SQL backend which requires to know the 'choice entries'.
Issue: So as to have the most up to date list of 'choices', the colleague has a requirement to 'look at' or export these choice entries from the SharePoint backend - and is asking for the sql table where they
    are held.
I am aware that being touchy-feely with the back-end is not a good idea, but out of interest have done some research into the table location but have made no progress so far.
    Questions:
    1) Can the values be directly 'read' from the SQL backend and if so how?
    2) Is there a better way to achieve this that is straightforward?
Many thanks in advance for any time and thought put into this issue
    Jason

    1. No.
    2. to perform a "live" lookup, the SQL way, would require an ODBC or ADO.Net to SharePoint adapter, which could be used as a Linked Server within SQL. This is BEYOND impractical.
    3. the BETTER approach would be to use something like a PowerShell script to pull the choices into a SQL database, which would be run on a scheduled task.
    4. Alternatively, depending on how the CHOICE field was defined for use, it may be possible to change the column from being a CHOICE field to being a BCS ("external data") field, and point it to some external database table that can also be used
by this other thing... there are implications that may suggest that this approach is NOT desirable, but it may be worth considering
it should also be pointed out, that as far as integration goes, best practice is to NOT perform direct lookups across systems... integrated data points should be REPLICATED to a LOCAL copy, as to ensure that the related data is using relationships local
to the database. By doing so, if the remote system ever changes, the only change is in the integration... any application that's doing the lookup (using the LOCAL copy), or queries that utilize relationships (such as JOINs) will still continue working fine
(albeit they may be using outdated data until the integration is updated).

  • How to get back 3-column layout in mail

My 3-column mail layout which included display of the "current" message (highlighted in the list) disappeared. The text of the "current" message is no longer displayed.

If Classic layout is selected, deselect it.
    Mail > Preferences > Viewing
Uncheck the box beside "Use classic layout".
Move the mouse cursor to the far right edge of the window.
Drag the rightmost edge of the viewing pane inward, then right edge of the middle column.
    Best.

  • Manual column resize in Mail is not permanent

Hello all, I am having an issue with mail and column sizes. I have my e-mail threaded and like knowing how many new messages in a thread there are. When I resize the column to reveal the number, not just the blue dot, the column inevitably reverts to just showing the blue dot. Does anyone know if there is a work-around or fix? Has anyone experienced this? This happens occasionally when running the app, switching from folder to folder (IMAP), and when it gets restarted.
I'm running Mail for Leopard. Hope my problem is clear.

  • External Content Type (BCS) with a dropdown column choices from a different table

I want to create an ECT with Create/Update method using SPD.
The dropdown choices should be also from another table in the database.
    How can I achieve this?
    ----------------------- Sharepoint Newbie

    Hi,
It is not supported to create External Content Type with a dropdown column by OOTB.
For a workaround, you can use Custom Field Controls and jQuery to add
Drop Down List to External List Form.
Please take a look at this article

  • Revert to Apple's choice for mail app fonts

I had difficulty reading the tiny text in the message pane on the OS X Mail app, so I played around with the font and font size in an attempt to find something better. That had mixed results, but I found the width doesn't adjest when using general larger font sizes so the messages simply become difficult to read in a different way.
Now I'd like to kill the changes and get back to the standard out-of-the-box settings. What are they?

  • Dynamic Column choices Analyzer 72 with HFM

Does anyone know how to setup a tabbed report group to show three different generations of the Period dimension in HFM? I would like to have a set of three radio buttons that let the user choose whether they would like to see 12 monthly columns, 4 quarterly columns or 1 yearly column. When I set it up in Analyzer now I get a "missing row tuples" error when I try to choose anything but the lowest level of the dimension.Thank you,Alex

I have the same problem. However, I was able to do a hide rows that have n/a which is good for TY (this year), however LY still remains Because there is data for all weeks for LY. Is there a way to hide the LY without manually going in and hiding it? I currently have it set up where all my weeks for the entire Year are put into the query but it only displays if data is available. I am able to make it work if I put Location above TY & LY and put the rule focused on Location "n/a". However this limits how I can display the data. Benjamin

  • What is your best messaging choice? Mail for Excha...

    Hi,
I tried Mail for Exchange, its very good but has some weaknesses. The same applies to Nokia Messaging.
Which do you prefere? Or do you prefere third party applications?
Or may be another phone brand?
    Thanks!

It depends.  When I had my E51, I used Nokia BBC.  But that only works if your wireless account has blackberry plan (as all data goes through blackberry.net, so a general data plan won't work).  Even with Always On, I was able to squeeze out 5 days on a full battery charge.  But when I got my N97, I wiped out the E51 and installed MfE on it to test the software in preparation for my N97.  At best, with Always On, the E51 lasted about 3 days.  Mind you, the E51 only had data and BB plans, no voice.
I've tried the beta Nokia Messaging app (email.nokia.com) that can "sync" all kinds of public POP/IMAP mail on my previous N95, and I was not at all impressed.  It hardly ever syncs correctly.  When it states that it is up to date, I see the email were old.  Gave that up after trying it out for a couple months.
I still use the built-in Messaging app that comes with S60.   However, for the longest time, I couldn't use it with netaddress.com or usa.net (same company) via IMAP.  You may remember that netaddress.com was the original free email service dating back to early 90's.  Starting with my 6620 all the way through my N95, the built-in Nokia Messaging app just can't connect to netaddress.com's IMAP server, even though other mobile devices, my desktop Outlook, and Outlook Express can.  Go figure.  Because of this, I was forced to switch to Google finally as my mail provider.
But now, GMail has a weird implementation of its mail system, as this is not Nokia's fault.  Whether on the built-in Nokia Messaging app or with Outlook, when connecting to GMail's IMAP, your delete action does not get obeyed by Google.  You have to move the message to the Trash folder.  Quite annoying.
For me, I use my N97's MfE to connect to my corporate mail, the built-in Nokia Messaging app to retrieve my GMail at intervals (works great) via IMAP, and Google's S60 GMail app.  Why would I want to use Google's native app?  At home I download all my mail via POP on my Outlook and archive them in the personal folder.  But once in a while I have to dig up some old email.  So I use Google's native app to search my "All Mail" folder whenever I need to find something.  Otherwise, it's just MfE and the built-in Messaging.  Works like a charm.  Free is always good in my books.
(If only Nokia can tell me what Exchange security policies MfE on S60 v5 can/cannot support...  /discussions/board/message?board.id=messaging&thread.id=19037)

  • Apple Mail subject column

I just installed the Mac OS upgrade through Software Update, and now I cannot show the Subject column in Mail. I can sort by it; that option appears on the pop-up menu and the messages move around, but there is no choice in the menu to show the Subject column in the Mail window.
Does anyone have a solution or an explanation?

OK, never mind all of you who may have been running your brains on this. I found a useful post from earlier this year. It was a matter of entering (stumbling, actually) on the correct group of search terms.
And the answer was in the form of a Terminal command: defaults delete com.apple.mail TableColumns
I entered this after quitting Mail, then restarted Mail, and my Subject column was back.
And thank you, Ernie, for mentioning that it is a default choice and won't appear as a column option in the View menu. I won't worry that it's not there.
