Column of ascending numbers?

How do you create a column of ascending numbers?
I have searched high and low in iWork help and can't find the method.
Help!

In one cell type a starting number.  In the same column but one row down enter another value in your sequence.  select both cells, then grab (select and hold the little circle at the bottome right of the selection) and drag down to fill:
you can use a similar technique for horizontal fills.  You can also enter 0 in one cell, then 2 in the next and Numbers will fill by 2s.  You can also enter dates, days of the week by entering the first two then fill based on that pattern.
Another way is to enter a starting value, then entering a formula in the next cell (let's say you wanted you count by threes starting at 2):
enter "2" in cell A1
shorthand is:
A1=2
A2=A1+3
select A2 and fill down:

    b,
    Pop-up menu, as it's called i Numbers is a Cell Format option.
    Select the cells that you want to format as Pop-up
    In the Cells Inspector, Choose "Pop-up menu"
    In the Cells Inspector, the default menu is 1, 2, 3 - Edit these entries to your liking. It will apply to all the selected cells.

  • How to create a column with increasing numbers in h:dataTable?

    I need to make a table that would have a column with order numbers, starting from 1 and increasing by 1 for every row. I tried using JSTL for this but it seems it is being ignored (as it probably should). My code is below. I know I am supposed to use getRowIndex() with bound tables, by my table isn't bound to anything...
    I could hold the number in the backing bean but that seems like a total overkill.
    Is there a proper way to this in JSF? Could I maybe somehow reference this (meaning tha table itself) within the EL expression?
    <c:set var="month" value="0" />
    <h:dataTable value="#{loansManager.rates}" var="rate">
                <c:set var="month" value="${month+1}" />
         <h:column>
              <f:facet name="header">
                   <h:outputText value="Month" />
              </f:facet>
              <c:out value="${month}" />
         </h:column>
         <h:column>
              <f:facet name="header">
                   <h:outputText value="Rate" />
              </f:facet>
              <h:outputText value="#{rate}" />
         </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>

    Bind the datatable to the backing bean and use HtmlDataTable#getRowIndex().
    You can find here an example: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2006/06/using-datatables.html#AddRowNumbers].

    I have a column in a Numbers document that currently contains a number and that number is different in different columns.  I want to add the words "Pack Qty" before each number in the column.  How do I do that?  I'm using Numbers '09 on a brand new Macbook Pro.  Thanks!

    In an adjacent column add the formula:
    ="Pack Qty: "&<CELL>
    where <CELL> is the cell in the same row where the quantity is,
    Like:

  • Is there a way to change column width in Numbers on iPad?

    Using Numbers on both iPad and MacBook Pro.  On iPad I cannot figure out how to make some columns wider, and when I import a spreadsheet from my MacBook to the iPad  the columns all become uniform size.  too skinny for what I want to do.

    James,
    If I get my hands on an iPad with Numbers I'll try to figure it out. In the interim, you coud post your question in the iOS iWork area and see if you get a bite there.

  • How to increase a column width in numbers

    Hello,
    Is there a way to increase the column width of a numbers table by using a short cut.
    In a few words is there any shortcut to increase or decrease the size of cells and columns?
    Something like command+?
    Regards,
    Jonathan M.

    No key commands are available.  You can select the table then use the "Table Formatter":
    These controls will apply to the items selected.  If you have one column highlighted then you can change the width of that one column.  If you select all columns then this control will apply to the selected columns.
    you can also hover the cursor over the dividers between columns (the lines in the header... the lines between, for instance, the "A" and  the "B").  The cursor will change to a vertical bar with a horizontal line with left right arrows, then click and drag as needed.  Similar for rows.

  • Column with consecutive numbers in Numbers '09

    Very simple question -- I did a search for this, but because my query involves the word "Numbers," it returned everything!
    Okay, I have a list of 500 rows. I want to add a very simple column in Column A, that simply has "1" in Row 1, "2" in Row 2, all the way down to "500" in Row 500. If I type "1" into the first column, I can't seem to drag the cell down and do that -- it just inserts "1" into the entire column, which isn't what I want.
    In other words, I want Column A to very simply look like this:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    6
    7
    8
    etc.
    What's the right way to do that? Thanks.

    It probably is in the Numbers '09 User Guide, but if you don't know the answer, and haven't developed some good search techniques, it's one you might have trouble finding in the Guide.
    John's subject line suggests he'd search using "consecutive" (zero occurrences), "number" (vast number of occurrences) or both words together (zero occurrences due to the absence of "consecutive").
    "pattern" works, but I found that out by scanning Chapter 4, finding the paragraph that dealt with this, then using what appeared to be a potent word for a search. "You can also add values to cells based on value patterns" is the first line of a paragraph on page 76 (not 78, which deals with conditional formatting) of the English language edition of the guide.
    I for one appreciate that John did a search, whether of the Guide or of this forum, before posting his question. That his search was unsuccessful is not really surprising; the information is moderately well hidden.

  • Matrix - Help with setting 1st column for line numbers

    Hi,
    I have created a matrix on a custom form and would like to add line numbers to the # column line that of the quotation screen.
    The matrix itself is populated correct from the Query and LoadFromDataSource, and all the fields and columns are filled in correctly, the only column I am having trouble with is the 1st one for line numbers. My code for adding the line numbers is
    SBO_Application.MessageBox("Matrix Count: " & tMatrix.RowCount)
    For i = 1 To tMatrix.RowCount
          oEditText = tColumns.Item("#").Cells.Item(i).Specific
          oEditText.Value = i
    Next
    For the example I am using I get the message box appear:
    Matrix Count: 26
    So I know I should have the line number go from 1 to 26, however I only get 1 to 9 displayed, all the remaining lines are blank.
    Any ideas on why it stops at 9 or what I should do to correctly set the line numbers in the Number column like that of the system Quotation/Sales orders forms.
    Your help is much appreciated
    Matthew

    Hi,
    I tried changing it to the following as you suggested:
    SBO_Application.MessageBox("Matrix Count: " & tMatrix.VisualRowCount)
    For i = 1 To tMatrix.VisualRowCount
        oEditText = tColumns.Item("#").Cells.Item(i).Specific
        oEditText.Value = i
    Next
    The message box still displays 26, however my lines still only go up to number 9.
    Thanks for the quick response.

  • How do I print column letters/row numbers in Numbers?

    In '08 someone asked about printing row numbers and column letters in a Numbers SS. The answer: take a snapshot (CMD-SFT-4) or use Excel.
    I am using iWork09; the problem continues with it. Has this flaw been fixed in later versions of iWorks? When I print the spreadsheet and a formula sheet, the formula sheet is pretty worthless if the spreadsheet has no colum/row identifiers. So much for having someone else audit my formula work.

    Supply the auditor with a copy of the file, rather than a printed copy of the document. If she needs a printed copy of the formula list, that's easy to obtain from the file. When she clicks on a cell containing a formula, Numbers colour-codes the cell references and highlights the referenced cells with those colours.
    Use Header Row and Header column cells to label each column and row. Set Numbers preferences to use these labels in the formulas to name the referenced cells.
    Add a column to the left of the table to contain row numbers, and a row to the top to contain column letters. The row numbers are easy to generate with a simple formula; the column letters require a little more thought, especially for those past column 26 (Z, followed by AA), but it's doable.
    Use the suggestion (auxiliary tables) suggested above by Wayne.
    Two other suggestions:
    First, if this feature is, in your estimation, a significant flaw in Numbers, send feedback to Apple requesting it be included in a future version of numbers. Use the Provide Numbers Feedback item in the Numbers menu, or the link in this message—both go to the same place.
    Second, Use the application that best meets your needs, whichever application that turns out to be.

    Barry

  • Categorize column data in numbers

    I am using iworks 3.5 on OS Yosemeti.  I am trying to categorize data in a column on numbers.  I watched a you tube video on how to do this, however my version on Numbers (presumably the most up to date, does not seem to have this option in the menu.  Has anyone come across this and can shed light on how to do this?

    Hi Charles!  thanks for the reply
    I have a report by account number.  I'm trying to input all the transactions, then summarize them by account number.  So grouping all account #3's together, etc.
    A you tube video i found illustrated doing this in numbers by using the categorize feature.  Problem is, that feature seems to have been removed somewhere along the way.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E71CuIHNdfI  the feature is called "categorize this column"
    I've solved it by switching to MS excel and using a pivot table, but using excel is like stabbing myself with a fork!  I'd much rather use numbers, but i'm very disappointed that the same things can't be achieved in numbers.  I'm sure it can, I just don;t know how to do it.

    TangellaHow do you define "the beginning rows in the table"? Rows in a relational, heap table have no "order" to them. There is no concept of "first".
    And once that is defined, why would you want to assign sequence number to only 10k our of "millions" of rows?

  • Using text on column containing only numbers

    Hello,
    I need to search in a number column for particular "subnumbers". For
    example I have a column with 3453454 in it an I like to searh for the
    number "53" in it. I know I could use
    select * from table where number_column like '%53%'
    but since the table is rather big I'd like to use Oracle Text for it
    and query like
    select * from table where contains(number_column, 53) > 0
    but above query would return NULL after converting the number column
    to a varchar2 column! Only full numbers are indexed and therefore only
    a search on the full number 3453454 would yield a result. What are my
    options to make above query with "contains" clause work?
    My initial thought was to create a CTSYS.CTXCONTEXT index.

    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
