Column set based on LOV selection...

Hello Friends,,,,,
I have quick question…
•     I have a table A with “ID”, “lookupid”, “detail_desc” columns.
•     Lookupid column is a lov and points to lookup table
•     When I select lookupid from drop down, I want to set the detail_desc from the lookupid’s description from lookup table.
Any help will be greatly appreciated?
Please let me know if you want me to provide any further info.....

Thank you for responding to the post.....
Excellent point Amit......
I am able to set the table a.detail_desc = Lookup table description after I hit the save button.
Still one more problems:
1. Is it possible to see set the table a.detail_desc = lookup table.description as soon as i select the table a.lookup id without hitting the save button..(as soon as i select the value from LOV, set the detail_desc from lookup row's description column)

  • Setting column values based on LOV selection

    Hi All,
    I am using JDeveloper 11.1.2.2.0. I have a table eg: Department table, in Dept Id, I have defined LOV for that field. My requirement is, based on the LOV selection, I want to set the other column values. I am using InputTextwithLOV in list type. How to achieve this?
    I tried mentioning that in the List return values. But it is not setting the values.
    Regards,
    Infy

    Hi,
    if you use a model driven LOV then when configuring the LOV you can map additional attributes. When you build a model driven LOV you at least once tell it which LOV attribute should be used to update the DeptId field. You can do the same for additional attributes

  • Dynamic bar chart based on LOV selected

    Apex 2.1 with XE : running on windows xp.
    I am trying to create charts based on selected criteria such as level 1, level 2 and level 3. If the user selects level 1 chart is expected to group level 2 and level 3 parameters else if the user selects level 2 criteria on top of level 1 then it should filter to the next category and so on. To make it simple I created three different queries which would generate the required graphs.
    To achieve this I decided to use PL/SQL function that would return three different chart queries based on the LOV selection. Although the function works well for each of the queries they dont work with a if else condition based on LOV selection. So what is the problem with creating such as dynamic query. Can I use the "%" values of LOV in my if else condition if not why ?
    Any alternatives ?

    Well. The queries for the charts run independently well. I guess I might be using the if else condition in an improper fashion.
    If the second LOV filter is not used.. I am matching the :LOV2 value with "%" and execute appropriate chart query based on single selection criteria and for the else case I use the other query and so on.
    I wish to show the code but since I upgraded to 3.0.1 today my application page views don't render properly. The images are missing ..and whole page is missing for editing.

  • Populate field on form based on LOV selection

    I have a form that I created on Portal 3.0.7. On the form is a LOV which has a list of employees. I want to populate another
    field on the form which is office and it is based on the employee LOV selection. I also want the field to be filled immediately,
    not after a button is pressed or any other user intervention. I have been able to do this with a dependent LOV, but it does not look
    appealing. Both of the fields are coming from the same table. It seems like this should be easy to do, but I am not
    having much luck. Can someone please tell me the best way to accomplish this.

    Hi,
    Yes, you can do it using Dynamic Actions.
    See this thread as well. APEX4: Populating fields from database based on the SelectList value
    In Radio Group you will need to identify the button clicked from its ID and / or value. Thats because the Radio Group Item creates as many IDs / Items as there are options P1_ITEM_0, P1_ITEM1_1, etc.

  • Form Personalization - Make field required based on LOV selection

    Newbie here.
    I am trying to make a field required based on the selection of the LOV that is next to it. Having a heck of a time with it.
    The form i am working on is the Sub Invenntory form that you get to via Organization Items. We want the subinvnetory field to be manditory when subinv is selected from the LOV in the sources tab.
    here is what i have so far:
    CONDITION
    Trigger Event: WHEN-VALIDATE-RECORD
    Trigger Obj: ITEM_SUBINVENTORIES
    Condition: ${item.item_subinventories.SOURCE_TYPE.value} = 3
    Action
    Type: Property
    Object Type: Item
    Target Object: ITEM_SUBINVENTORIES.SOURCE_SUBINVENTORY
    Property Name: REQUIRED
    Value: TRUE
    The problem seems to be that i can't get the field to be required. It shows up yellow but still allows me to save w/ the field being blank.

    I do not know about the particular form that you are trying to personalize, but whenever I have created a condition, it has usually been in the following syntax:
    :BLOCK_NAME.FIELD_NAME = 'VALUE'
    For example, :MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS.PRIMARY_UNIT_OF_MEASURE_MIR = 'SEAT'
    Yours seems to be very much different from mine, but then again, I am not technical so I cannot comment intelligently on that aspect.
    May be that is the problem.
    Also, once you get it to work, you might want to also add a condition where the field is turned to un-required when the SOURCE_TYPE is NOT 3.

  • Dynamic query table for report based on LOV selected

    Hi,
    Need some suggestion and guidance how to dynamically query table via lov for report .
    Scenario:
    Table, TABLE_LIST, has tablename (table in DB) and filter (for where clause) column. The TABLENAME_LOVE is derived from table TABLE_LIST.
    SELECT TABLENAME D, TABLENAME R FROM TABLE_LIST
    In Page 2,a page select list item,P2_TABLENAME to use TABLENAME_LOV
    All data in tables in the table_list have identical structure (columns, triggers, primary key, and so on).
    I want to have the report region query from the table based on selected LOV.
    Example,
    Tablename Filter
    TB1
    CD2 ACTIVE='Y'
    When select TB1, the report regin will query based on TB1.
    When select CD2, the report regin will query based on CD2 WHERE ACTIVE='Y'
    Question:
    How can I query based on &P2_TABLENAME. WHERE &P2_FILTER.
    Like
    select col1, col2 from &P2_TABLENAME WHERE &P2FILTER
    Greatly appreciate any suggestion and some guidance.
    Tigerwapa

    Hi,
    You should always post your Apex version, DB version and other information as suggested in the FAQ.
    And the moment you talk report you should state whether it is IR or Classic.
    As for your query, have you explored the Report type "SQL Query (PL/SQL function body returning SQL query)" ?
    That might be a good fit for what you are trying to achieve.

    Hi,
    Assuming you are having two fields on the page. One LOV for empID (ID: empIDV) and messageTextInput for emp Name (ID: empNameV)
    1) Create a VO for your LOV having a query like SELECT emp_num, emp_name FROM employees;
    2) Create region for LOV using table using wizard based on the VO created above (choose emp_num as messageStyledText and emp_name as formValue). Also make search allowed true for emp_num.
    3) Create a LOV map1:
    LOV region item: empId
    Return item: empIDV
    Criteria item: empIDV
    4) Create lovMap2:
    LOV region item: empName
    Return item: empNameV
    Also try to implement dependent LOVs : http://sushantsharmaa.blogspot.in/2012/12/10-dependent-lov-in-oaf.html

    Hi Steve,
    You can do that with an dynamic action which triggers on a "onchange" from the LOV.

  • Urgent - Report Column based on LOV - Value not found in LOV

    Hi All,
    Recently, we have upgraded to HTMLDB 2.0 from HTMLDB 1.5.
    I have a SQL report. One of the columns is based upon LOV - Display as Text (Based on LOV, does not save state).
    For the "Ids" of the report, it should display the corresponding "Names" from the LOV.
    But, for the cases, where no record exist in LOV for some Id, then it is directly showing the Id instead of "-" (which i have specified in Display Null Text) in the report column attributes.
    Before upgrade, it was working fine.
    Any idea where is the issue.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Monika

    Hi,
    Can anybody help me in sorting out this issue please.
    For your reference, i have made a test case on
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=20451:4:3519837362944582:::::
    Here, there are 2 tables
    1. MY_EMP_COUNTRY(emoid, empname, cntry_id)
    2. MY_COUNTRY_LOOKUP(id, name,active)
    LOV is created on table 2
    select name d, id r
    from my_country_lookup
    where active = 'Y'
    And, on the page a SQL report is created
    select empname, cntry_id
    from my_emp_country
    where, cntry_id is based upon the LOV.
    Since, in lookup table, cntry_id = 4 is set inactive, it is not picked up by the LOV and hence on the report instead of showing the NULL text it is showing the cntry_id (4).
    The attributes of report column cntry id -
    Named LOV = CNTRY_LOV
    Display Null = YES
    NULL text = -
    Display Extra Value = YES
    Am I missing anything.
    thanks,
    Monika

  • How to get the value from one Popup lov column to another popup lov column

    Hi,
    I am new to oracle apex development and having the below issue.
    In my application, there is a tabular form with 15 columns ( c1.. c15).
    I have to populate the value of column C5 based on the selected(from popup lov) value of column C3, tried to use onchange, but didn't help much.
    Any help please.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Oh boy, this is a fun one.
    onchange should work theoretically (in this example, assume that f05 is the target column that should be set and "this" is the source item whose value is to be transferred to f05 on the same row (row 2)):
    onchange=$s('f05_0002',$v(this));
    BUT the catch is of course that needs to be different for every row (can't hardcode the '2'), so you need something to dynamically create the row number component.
    I wrote this for an app I'm working on that uses master-detail forms heavily (I also wrote a lot more code to read the fmap array that is in v4 so that I can reference my cells via their column name and not the numeric position (so "f05 can be determined w/o hard coding), insulating against columns moving around, columns being made display-only etc. but I won't bore you with that here unless you really need to know).
    function getRow(pObj)
    { //Pass in an object reference to a tabular form cell and get back an integer
      //derived from the object ID.
      var vRow=pObj.id.substr(pObj.id.indexOf("_")+1);
      if (isNaN(vRow))
        return (null);
      return (parseInt(vRow,10));
    function formatRow(pRow)
    { //Pass in an integer and it'll be returned as the tabular form cell ID suffix
      //(e.g.: pass in 1 and get back string "_0001").
      //Used in building ID references to tabular form cells.
      if((isThingEmpty(pRow)) || (isNaN(pRow)))
        return(null);
      var vRow=pRow.toString();
      while(vRow.length<4)
        vRow="0"+vRow;
      return("_"+vRow);
    }Therefore:
    onchange=$s('f05_'+formatRow(getRow(this)),$v(this));
    So in essence, pass in "this" which will be a reference to the current item, largely to determine what row we're on. getRow will return 1, 2, 3, etc. formatRow will take that and return 0001, 0002, 0003, etc. Once that is done, it'll concatenate with the f05 and f04 to refer to the correct columns (determining f05, f04, etc. dynamically is another matter if you really need to but I didn't want to complicate this answer too much at once).
    Note: above I also use a isThingEmpty() function that I wrote. It does nothing other than check the item for an empty string, if the item is null, etc. Just do your own evaluation of empty-string, no-value, etc. there.
    It would indeed be nice though if Apex had a better way to delclaratively access the tabular form items though. Despite all the v4 enhancements, tabular forms were not entirely upgraded to the same full functionality of page items.
