Column Titles in Sent mail

Is there any way to display attachment and size in the sent mail box?
Also when i store sent messgaes in an "on my mac" sent file the "to" heading disappears so I end up with all the mail with my name as the title and no idea to whom I sent the message.
Please someone reply -it is driving me mad.
Thank you

Yes - right-click on the header area (where you see "To", "Subject", etc, and tick the Attachment and Size columns. You can do the same for any folder or mailbox you need to see those columns in.

  • Bcc not shown in sent mail

    Hi,
    I've read some other topics on this issue, and it is a shame the discussion are closed and I must open a new one. However, here is the problem.
    I often send mail to multiple receiver, and I prefer not to disclose the address of long lists or competitor suppliers. I send my mails using the Bcc field for the addresses.
    Unfortunately, Mail does not show anything in the To field when the message is in the Sent (or any other) mailbox.
    Someone says the reason is because this is a 'blind' mail. But the Bcc should be blind to the receivers, not to the sender (who - if in good mental shape - should know who is writing to).
    Are there workarounds, scripts, extensions, fixing this beahvoir, that at the moment makes Mail a bit useless to me (how can I archive mails if I cannot see who I sent them to?)
    Cheers, Paolo

    BCC should show up as a header line in the message in your sent folder, whether your smtp gets upset with blank "To" fields or not. The copy of the message in the sent folder, according to the mail headers in raw messages in my sent folder, have no indication of having left my machine, i.e., no indication of having been touched by a smtp server anywhere (no "Received-From" header lines). Is any BCC data visible when you view raw message source (menubar View > Message > Raw Source)?
    Since "BCC" is not "To", it is not going to display in the "To" column in the sent mail viewer pane and BCC is not a choice for viewablle columns in the viewer pane. You will probably have to do something like make the "To" field read Suppliers-1 <[email protected]> and Suppliers-2 <[email protected]>.
    Or maybe you can make some smart mailboxes and use the "Filter Sent Messages" apple script that is part of the collection of the Mail Scripts collection by Andreas Amann. I have never used Mail Scripts so can't speak to its efficacy for various tasks, but if it is just identifying a rule (or set of rules), then in Mail Prefs Rules, I would think that you could create some rules based on the BCC field of messages in your sent folder. In Mail Prefs' Rules, select "edit header list" in the leftmost drop down menu and add Bcc as a field, then create the action to sort on the contents of the Bcc field and move complying messages to the applicable smart folder.

  • How do I display multiple recipients in the Sent Mail list view???

    In the list of sent mails, only one name (the first recipient) shows up in the "to" column. I would like to show as many names as there is room for, and not have to open the message itself to see multiple intended recipients.
    Other email clients do this as the default, but in Mail I just can't find the setting for how many names to display in that column.
    Help!!!!

    Terence,
    Thanks for the information.  Although this allowed me to open multiple windows, they are all show in a format too small (large thumb nails) to use.  I'm looking for a way to do a "split-window" function where two windows are shown (at the same time) larger enough to move between the windows and perform functions such as copy, paste, edit, or drag data from one to the other.
    Thanks

  • How to list the name of recipient in Sent mail folder

    In the Gmail folder in Mail, is a Sent Mail folder. It lists FROM, SUBJECT, and DATE RECEIVED. My wife is the only account using the Mail appl. She would like to know how to have the name of the mail recipient listed, rather than her name as the sender since she already knows that info.
    Thanks.
    Jerry

    Jerry,
    That should happen automatically in Mail.
    Click the Gmail Sent folder. Where the names of the columns is displayed, there should be a dot next to the first column name. Right-click or control-click to get the menu. Click to check To. If you don't want to see From bring up the menu again and click it to uncheck.
    Done.

  • Number of attachments not showing up in Sent mail list

    Since I migrated mail from my MacBook Pro running Leopard to my shiny new MacBook Pro running Lion (I used Migration Assistant), when I look at my Sent Mail box I don't see the number of attachments listed (I'm using the Classic mail format).  I can see emails previous to my migration showing the number of attachments in the Sent mailbox.  When I look at View Columns, Attachment is checked. I've executed the View Rebuild command on the Sent folder.  References to attachment (the paper clip) doesn't appear in the newer Lion mode either.  I also did a Disk Utility rebuild permissions command and the number of attachments still don't show up.  I do see the number of attachments noted in the InBox.  Maybe someone has some insight on this problem?

    really nobody else has ever heard of this issue?

  • Date Sent not showing in Sent Mail

    After a certain date, using Mail application, the Date (sent) is not showing in the header along with To & From & Subject. Why?
    I have tried to get it to show using view prefs. Doesn't work.
    I have changed to using a network time server. Doesn't work.
    I've tried moving it to another folder. Doesn't work.
    I need the date to show so when I print, I have proof of date and time sent...
    Anyone?

    Not sure about the time stamp problem, but the missing "Sent" mails problem is not uncommon. This problem is one that a lot of people have and in my opinion, I think it's a problem with Apple's mail application, nothing at the user's end.
    Does this happen only when you include an attachment or does that matter? Also, does it only happen when your outgoing message is delayed a bit? Check your junk/spam folder to see if your sent messages went in there.
    This doesn't fix anything, but you might change your e-mail settings so that all new mails are automatically sent Bcc to yourself.
    Sometimes the "missing" sent mails are not going in the right folder. I'm sure you probably already know, but in the left-hand column in MAIL, under Mailboxes, there is a second "sent" folder way at the bottom, depending on your other e-mail accounts, such as Yahoo or Gmail). Many people have discovered their missing "sent" e-mails in those.
    It is a big hassle, for sure, and has been officially reported. Users with complaints are being told that Apple's Intrusion Detection and Prevention (IDP) systems block the connection from a user's e-mail client when it attempts to store outgoing e-mails, which contain attachments, to the users'  sent folder.
    This is supposedly due to the Mac OS/Mac Mail sending non-standard or erroneous commands to the server, emulating the activity which would be generated by an attacker attempting to abuse an exploit in the IMAP server. I doubt you are doing anything wrong, so it's just a matter of waiting for them to FIX this annoying issue.

  • How can I create additional "Sent Mail" folders so that I can organize my sent mail along the same lines as the inbox? I use Mail v 4.5

    How can I create additional or sub "Sent Mail" folders so that I can organize my sent mail along the same lines as the inbox? I use Mail v 4.5.

    Thank you for your reply Don, but I had already gone through that procedure and it will only create new mailboxes for received mail. I want to create new mailboxes for sent mail, i.e. the first column being "to" not "from". Under the Mailbox menus there is an option "Use This Mailbox For" but all the options under that (including Sent) are greyed out. Unfortunately the View/Columns option to change from "From" to "To" changes all mailboxes not just the active one.

  • Same subject Mail messages are grouped together in sent mail

    How can I get mac mail to stop grouping sent messages on the same subject together in the sent mail file?
    i went in mail- preferences viewing and turned off mark them by color, but that was no help.
    I want each message in sent mail on its own, and in the usual sent order, not grouped with other same subject sent mails.

    Nope - I have the date column clicked-- and in the date column, for say an e mail sent today- like "a pix of my new car" , it has grouped with todays e mail (you "open" it with the little triangle on the left side" all the other e mails sent last week on "a pix of my new car"

  • Unable to view sent mail content

    Has anybody had the problem of not being able to view sent mail content in the sent mailbox? When a message is selected from list, the message "The message from XXXXXXX <[email protected]> concerning “title” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." when I try to view a sent message. This issue applies to all the sent messages in the sent mailbox, I can see a complete list of messages, just not the content?

    If this is a POP account and you’re running Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as your profile indicates, you probably have the problem described here:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
    If you’re just starting to experience the problem, doing what the article suggests might work. If you’ve let the problem to become worse over time, however, it may be too late to solve it as described in the article.
    Because of the differences between Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, further discussing your problem here might confuse other users with apparently similar problems running Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), so please start a new topic in the Mail & Address Book - Mac OS X 10.3 & earlier forum, or just look for other threads discussing the same problem there. This is actually a FAQ in that forum.

  • Different Column Fields - Inbox & Sent

    Hello,
    I've recently converted from Windows to Mac.  I successfully setup my Exchange account in Mail 5.0.  I use several devices to send mail from so not all are coming from one mac.
    Under the Mailboxes header in the side bar, I have my generic "Inbox" & "Sent" folders which are displaying fine.  The Inbox has the "From" column and "Sent" has the "To" column.  This Sent folder only shows emails sent from this specific machine.  Again, I use 3 different macs.
    When I go down to the "Sent" folder that shows all emails sent from my Exchange account, it has the "From" column.  Obviously everything came from me so it's useless.  When I click to add the "To" column it adds it here but it also adds it to the generic "Inbox" folder.
    Hopefully this isn't difficult to understand and I explained it clearly.  Basically I want to customize the columns for the indivdual folders and not have the options I set for one folder go across all folders.
    Thanks.

    Column view settings are stored globally for all mailboxes. You cannot change them for one mailbox without also affecting the rest, except Mail allows you to have slightly different From/To and Date Sent/Date Received settings for Sent.

  • Storing 'Sent' mail in 'On My Mac', but needing "To" not "From"..

    Hi, I've looked for an answer to this in previous posts, but haven't yet found one:
    I'm trying to store - so that they don't get erased - previously sent mail (..which is presently sitting in a 'Sent' mailbox under MAILBOXES..) so that it's sitting, instead, in a new box under the ON MY MAC heading.
    The Sent mailbox in question is connected to an IMAP account ..so that the material is available on more than one computer. The IMAP account syncs correctly between Macs (..by their requesting and obtaining the latest material from the remote server).
    Because the actual email account was set up incorrectly on the remote server (and now needs to be deleted and then reconfigured correctly) it's necessary to grab all the mail which is sitting in the local 'Sent' folder under MAILBOXES, and store this material offline in the local machines' ON MY MAC safe repository. (..The two Macs will then be "mechanically" sync'ed by simply copying the Mail folder within the User's Library from one Mac to the other ..this has always worked when used previously, if necessary..)
    (..Mail's own Help file suggests Alt/Dragging the original folder to a new destination within ON MY MAC, but this doesn't seem to work for me..)
    However: when all mail within the relevant 'Sent' folder is selected and then dragged to a newly-created folder within ON MY MAC (..which has worked OK for 'archiving' incoming email into an offline mailbox..) then the only headings within the new offline mailbox - consistent with offlining incoming mail - are 'From', 'Date Received', 'Subject', etc.
    As this is supposed to be a copy of Sent instead of incoming mail, I'd like the headings to be - consistent with the original 'Sent' mailbox - "To", "Date Sent" and "Subject" instead.
    Does anyone know of a means to change the headings within the newly-created folder to be "To" and "Date Sent" instead of 'From' and 'Date Received'?
    Thanks in anticipation..

    Not to worry ..solved it myself:
    For anyone who wants to know how to do this: Ctrl-click on the 'From' name, and then UNtick 'From' and tick (check) 'To' instead. Choose all your own headings by using Ctrl-click.
    Good night, and good luck!
    P.S: Ah, sorry, Ernie; didn't see you there!
    By 'MAILBOXES' I meant the heading(s) down the left column of Mail, which read MAILBOXES, ON MY MAC, RSS, etcetera.
    Anyway, thanks for your concern, but I did manage to find the answer in the end: "..when in trouble, choose Ctrl-click for a contextual menu"!

  • How can sent mails sorted by attachments?

    Dear all,
    I added the column "attachments" in the display window of my sent mails (classic layout). The column appears, but the mails containing an attachment are not marked with the paper-clip icon. Besides, I cannot sort my sent mails by attachment.
    Because I do not have this problem for my incoming mails (here the paper-clip icons are displayed), I guess it is a bug (Yosemite; mail Version 8.1 (1993).
    Does anybody know how can I solve this problem? Thanks!

  • Mail to multiple recipients in sent mail index

    When I send mail to multiple recipients (all in the "To:" field), for some reason when I view the Sent index, only the first recipient shows up. (If I open the message, I see all recipients listed.)
    In Mail version 1, which I had been running on a prevoius machine with 10.2.8, all the recipients would appear in the sent mail index.
    For example, let's say I email Joe, Tom, Gary. If I go to the Sent mailbox, I only see "Joe" in the "To" column. Before, I'd see "Joe, Tom, Gary."
    Any way to change a setting to restore this? It makes it easier to see to whom I sent what.

    use string tokenizer to tokenize the string and then use this in ur smtp coding
    message.addRecipients(Message.RecipientType.TO, to)
    where 'message' is object of MimeMessage
    and 'to' is array of Address
    ex:-
    Address[] to = new Address[count];
    Earlier u must be using message.addRecipient(Message.RecipientType.TO, to)
    where to is object of Address.
    Sample code:-
    suppose String posted from ur form is :-
    to = "[email protected],[email protected],[email protected]"
    StringTokenizer toAdd = new StringTokenizer(to,",");
    Address[] address=new Address[toAdd.countTokens()];
    int j=0;
    while(toAdd.hasMoreTokens()){
    address[j]=(new InternetAddress(toAdd.nextToken()));
    j++;
    }

  • Maildir and mac mail (sent mail not being saved)

    Our IT moved a while ago from mbox to maildir and I was experiencing the same problems as everyone, my sent mail wasn't being saved. Read thread for background, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3622469&#3721196
    I tried the following:
    1. Click Mail
    2. Click Preferences
    3. Click the Accounts button at the top
    4. Click the Advanced tab
    5. In the IMAP Path Prefix box enter INBOX.
    6. Close the window, close Mail, reopen it and try again
    Doing this was necessary but not sufficient. After reading the above thread I also tried selecting an appropriately titled mail folder (sent-messages) in my mail account, clicking MAILBOX in the header menu and selecting USE THIS MAILBOX for SENT. Well long story short, it finally worked!
    This last step is what's being described in the Mail help topic, "Saving copies of email you send."
    For some reason I didn't understand or they didn't explain enough that I first had to select a mail folder.
    This was a head scratcher so I hope it helps somebody.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Mail Version 2.1 (752/752.2)

    Thanks for all of your responses.
    I redid everything you guys mentioned and at one point I got a message that it wasn't reaching the server. The option to "resolve to server" came up (which wasn't the default option) and I clicked it for the heck of it. Sure enough, it fixed the connection. Again, what was odd was that the deault was "try again".
    It's working fine now, but since I don't know what caused the disconnect in the first place, I'm hoping the connection doesn't break again, I accept a meeting, and it doesn't get added to iCal. You'd think there'd be a redundancy for .ics files where it would say:
    You have responded to an invite. Would you like to add to iCal?
    [Yes] [No]
    [ ] Never ask me again
    Or it would there would be an option in Mail that says "Display Calendar invites as [] Attachment [] Email."
    I know the preferences should take care of this, but meetings and appointments are important enough for this type of anal retentiveness.
    Thanks again fo rall your help.

  • Enhancing ArrayField column titles

    I am considering the feasibility of creating a class to assist in
    identifying a user request to sort a column in an ArrayField, and then
    providing feedback to the user that is was done. Ideally, I'd love something
    like Outlook has in its listView's column headers, where a the sorted column
    has a triangle next to it (and indicates the sort direction as well); a poor
    man's version of this would be acceptable as well, perhaps with a ^
    (ascending sort) or v (descending sort) character appended to the column's
    text.
    My current problem in trying this out is accurately identifying which column
    title was clicked. I'm using the ArrayField's own column GridField, which
    contains TextGraphics for titles. You can name the TextGraphics, but
    apparently the compiler wont recognize them (won't recognize the column
    GridField either for that matter). I can set up an event for
    <MyArrayField>.ChildClick, but of course that just gives me the child column
    GridField, when I really need the column GridField's child TextGraphic (ie,
    MyColTitle).
    Has anybody tried to do something like this? Any and all ideas much
    appreciated!

    Eric,
    I've got a sample class that creates "active headings" for array fields. Each
    column title is capable of being clicked and you can then code whatever action
    you want for that click. Unfortunately I am in the middle of a cross country move
    and won't have access to my samples until sometime in August. The original sample
    was presented at the 1998 Forum. If you have access to those materials you can
    find it there.
    Hope this helps. If you still want my example in August let me know and I'll
    forward it then.
