Com.apple.emond Console spam

Since the upgrade to Yosemite, the Console system log has been spammed every 10 seconds with:
10/20/14 9:04:28.738 AM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.emond) Service only ran for 0 seconds. Pushing respawn out by 10 seconds.
I've tried to track this down through Google search with no luck.  I've done the usual repair permissions, rebooting to safe mode (which then shows a possibly related spamming of com.apple.pc.launchd and watchdogd.  I even uninstalled parallels 9 as that version seems wonky with Yosemite.  Anyone have a suggestion as to where to look next?  Is this a router/network sharing issue or some rogue service?
Thanks for any help.
iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), 2.93 GHz i7

After another week of messing around I finally got emond to stop with the constant restarting and console chatter.  I followed the suggestion of editing the /private/etc/emond.d/rules/Sample.plist  that was given here:
http://superuser.com/questions/828658/com-apple-emond-keeps-getting-restarted
Not something a novice should be messing with but it worked.  Be sure to make a backup copy of SampleRules.plist just in case.

  • Console spam: "com.apple.time: Interval maximum value"

    Hi, everyone —
Getting a little obsessed about cleaning out unnecessary Console messages and I'm finding that ~50% of my messages is this exact line:
com.apple.time: Interval maximum value is 946100000 seconds (specified value: 9223372036854775807).
I get this line about once a minute, and at the top of the hour get it almost a hundred times, ie:
6/6/13 8:59:59.991 AM com.apple.time[161]: Interval maximum value is 946100000 seconds (specified value: 9223372036854775807).

Anyone know how to clean this up?

Ok, after digging a bit, I've found what cause this warning: the DOT @ the end of the NTP server name... I thing it is used to specify the interval from the GUI, but without a value (i.e. Apple, Europe, (time.euro.apple.com.)) it probably fall to the maximum signed int64 value.
If you trim that dot or specify a value after the dot, the warning goes away.

The console shows thousands of these error messages and it's messed up many functions of my MacBook.
I have VMFusion on my Mac because for work I need to use Windows.  Last night I tried installing Windows 7 but could not complete installation.  I got a message saying "can not locate driver".  Then I started getting the Error 586.
Today I unistalled VMFusion hoping that would resolve the Error 586.  No such luck.
Can anyone help me get rid of this constant error, plesase?

I believe this has something to do with Mail. Are these frequently occurring errors? If so and you quit Mail do the errors cease?
Google searching for "org.postfix.master" reveals quite a number of links that you might check for more information.

  • Error Message in console  re: com.apple.AddressBook.abd

I keep getting this error message:
1/6/10 4:19:41 AM com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[352] (com.apple.AddressBook.abd) The following job tried to hijack the service "com.apple.AddressBook.abd" from this job: [0x0-0x16a16a].com.apple.AddressBook.abd
Any ideas what may be causing it and how I stop it? I get it about every 10 mins.

I think I have read somewhere this is a "non issue" but I still get the error message in my console messages. Wish they'd fix that. It's hard enough to diagnose problems using console without having messages appear that don't mean anything.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • MBP 2011 running crashing; com.apple.launchd[1] (org.samba.nmbd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds repeats in Console.

    Hello,
When i bought my MBP in Mid-2011 I found my Mac to be a little unstable but because I was new to MacOS I thought that perhaps it was just me.  I have carried on now for over a year, two machine formats plus an upgrade to Lion (from Snow leopard) and I'm still having problems.
    I keep seeing;
    Jul  5 11:03:12 tixylix com.apple.launchd[1] (org.samba.nmbd[1426]): posix_spawn("/opt/local/sbin/nmbd", ...): No such file or directory

Jul  5 11:03:12 tixylix com.apple.launchd[1] (org.samba.nmbd): Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
Scrolling in my Console logs, could this be something to do with the cause of my problems?
Should I take it to my local Apple store and let them have a look?
    Many thanks in advance.
    James

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

  • Console.app showing 18/12/2011 19:38:28     com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[155]     (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helpe r) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

So, i was looking around in my Console.app after three system crashes (which is another question i have, my 2010 MBP keeps completely locking up whenever i go to wish my uncle a happy birthday on Facebook[Safari 5.1.2])
And i notice this entry coming up every 10 seconds:
    18/12/2011 19:38:28          com.apple.launchd.peruser.502[155]          (com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
I had MacKeeper installed a long time ago, in my naive months when i first got my MBP, and i saw how bad it was. I deleted the app using AppZapper, trashed all the .com and .plist files etc. etc., but this entry is (and maybe has been for a long time) still coming up.
    Can anyone shed some light?
It says PID was 162 at one point, looked in activity monitor for process PID 162, as you guessed, nothing.
    What do, internet?

That's the trouble with these uninstall apps, they generally cannot be guaranteed to uninsall everything a app can create.
Look in these following places for anything that might be related to mackeeper:
    your login items
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/StartupItems
If you find obvious mackeeper items toss in the trash and reboot.  If you are not sure post the items here.
I'm guessing there's a com.zeobit.MacKeeper.Helper in the LaunchAgents or LaunchDaemons.

  • Com.apple.audio.coreaudiod error on every startup

    Hello,
I was does some system cleaning and maintenance and noticed that every time I start the computer, I get an error in Console:
com.apple.audio.coreaudiod     106: _RegisterApplication(), FAILED TO establish the default connection to the WindowServer, _CGSDefaultConnection() in NULL
And then it does it again right away:
com.apple.audio.coreaudio{106]     _RegisterApplication(), FAILED TO establish the default conncetion to the WindowServer, _CGSDefaultConncetion()is NULL
I was wondering what this means and how to keep this from happening. Since it involves core audio, this could be a potentially annoying problem if it has other effects (that I might see later), because I do music production.
I am using 10.6.8 on an early 2011 Macbook Pro and primarily use Logic 9.
Also does anyone know if I can prevent PACE and Digidesign/Avid stuff from running on every startup and just when I actually use ProTools or other PACE-protected programs?
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    Sorry I shall explain.
iMac been running very sluggish since Snow Leopard installed. Programs take ages to load. Freezes in OS and spinning beach ball all the time as well.
Did a search about a warning that get popping up which unfortunately I can not remember (sorry) but something to do with sound cdsa ? That's not right but searched and kept getting the same advice :
    http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist+error&ie=utf-8 &oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
    Ditch the com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist
Did this and the iMac ran at super light speed. Applications opened really quickly no beach ball at all - but no system sounds, emptying trash etc.
Dropped com.apple.audio.coreaudiod.plist back in LaunchDaemons Repaired Disk Permissions and got my system sounds back but got the beach ball back too and slow performance and crashes freezes etc.
    Any advice would be great

I found the answer myself - see this other thread I started to find out the cause. In short though, Spotlight itself is corrupt and was causing me no end of headaches so I disabled it using "spotless" a utility for just that purpose.

Yesterday, my MacBook Air revB crashed upon trying to open an mp4 video. I had to press and hold the power button until switch-off. A start attempt in verbose mode revealed the error "[Level 3] [ReadUID 0] [Facility com.apple.system.fs] [ErrType IO] [ErrNo 6] [IOType Read]", occurring twice. After this, some normal startup posts appeared, but each after a very long time, and preceded by the name of my harddisk and "IO error". Therefore, the system hung doe to not being able to read from the disk what it wanted to read for start-up. I booted into single user mode and used the find command to search "com.apple.system.fs" from root. It was not found. I verified the find command by searching something else, and that was found. Now I renamed my User folder in single user mode and rebooted in verbose mode. The Facility com.apple.system.fs persisted, but afterwards the system booted normally, no chain of disk IO errors. I deleted the User folder that had been newly created due to renaming the old one, and changed the old one's name back to its original value. Afterwards, the system booted normally without any errors, including the "com.apple.system.fs" one. The S.M.A.R.T. status of the disk was and is "SMARTOK". In order to find this out, I opened the console, whereupon the system crashed again. Only after 20 min of 1 s-long windows of opportunity (when the beachball disappeared) was I able to force-quit the console by invoking alt-cmd-esc, and the system continued to respond normally. There are obviously corrupt log files producing the very same read errors that had originally caused the system to hang during boot. Does anybody now what is going on?
    The best,

    Hey there,
I reread your original post... The problem to me is that what you did to make it boot again doesn't make much sense. Nothing in your home directory prevents the system from booting.
You said that the system hung when you had Console open. Most of the log files shown there are in /var/log, /Library/Logs some are also in your User directory in ~/Library/Logs, you could try deleting everything inside...
Why renaming your home folder changed anything is a mystery to me. The only theory I have is general file system corruption that got repaired during one of those bootups due to an automated fsck. That or the system deleted and recreated invalid plist files.
Mac OS has important files in /Library and /System/Library. The ones in System belong to the System and are not supposed to be touched. The ones in /Library are open for Applications to add their own System-wide Configuration settings etc. The same structure exists in your home directory ~/Libary. Usually the most interesting areas in your home directory are ~/Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Preferences. However as I previously said nothing in your home directory would keep the system from booting. It would always go to the blue screen before the login screen would appear (even when you have auto login on).
    Good luck!

  • ICal refusing to open (com.apple.ical.plist file missing)

I have tried opening iCal and it refuses to open. The icon bounces on the dock, then asks if I want to report the issue to Apple. I have reported multiple times but I don't know how reporting it will help my iCal work again. (See below the dashed line for the error report.)
Since then, I have tried to replace iCal, but the software claims it cannot be installed on this machine.
I have tried to update my current iCal, but no updates are available.
I have browsed the forums and saw that some solutions were if HelveticaNeue was missing from my fonts. Got it.
And then I saw some threads about refreshing the com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either. What can I do?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest using optional install to reload iCal from your installation disks, then download the combo update for your machine and run. Then see will iCal start. If it doesn't, use console.app to see what error messages it reports.
com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either.
It is created by iCal when it runs.

  • Very slow running seems to be com.apple.appkit.xpc.openAndSavePanelService

At unpredictable times my iMac starts to run really slow and I can hear the disk churning away. Looking in console I get a whole load of errors relating to:
    2/13/14 5:09:07.197 PM com.apple.appkit.xpc.openAndSavePanelService[7321]: ERROR: CGSSetWindowTransformAtPlacement() returned 1001
There's a whole load of repeats of this with the occasionally more detailed:
2/13/14 5:00:58.928 PM com.apple.appkit.xpc.openAndSavePanelService[7321]: CGContextRestoreGState: invalid context 0x0. This is a serious error. This application, or a library it uses, is using an invalid context  and is thereby contributing to an overall degradation of system stability and reliability. This notice is a courtesy: please fix this problem. It will become a fatal error in an upcoming update.
Any ideas on how to fix gratefullly recieved

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a couple of minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • How to stop - com.apple.launcd: Throttling respawn Will start in 10 seconds ?

I am running OS X Mavericks 10.9.5 on MacBook Pro Late 2013 with Retina display.
I had installed then removed an application KUsrTSK.app (Kaseya). I noticed this week in Console following process repeatedly running:
com.apple.launchd: (com.kaseya.AgentMon) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds
I have tried to look for this command in /Library/LaunchAgents and did not find it.
Someone suggested to run following command in Terminal:
    launchd remove com.kaseya.AgentMon
but no such process was found.
At a suggestion I have downloaded and run EtreCheck.app and have put the detailed results below hoping that it would be helpful for someone to suggest a course of action.
