'com.apple.server.globalSharedAddressBook' group missing

Hi All,
I am trying to get a global shared address book set up as per these various posts:
http://www.coresolutiongroup.com/ephemeral/shared_ab.html
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2140884&start=15&tstart=0
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=1&eotf= 1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.osxplain.de%2Fcontent%2F4%2F1%2Fde%2Fgruppenkontakte.ht ml&sl=de&tl=en
However, I keep running into a snag partway through: the group 'com.apple.server.globalSharedAddressBook' seems to not exist anywhere. 'AB Read-Write Groups' shows up just fine (in the /Local/Default group tab) but 'com.apple.server.globalSharedAddressBook' isn't there. I am running this on a Mac Mini (server edition) with Snow Leopard Server running on it. I ran software updater this morning, and it is completely up to date.
Anyone have any idea why that group (which should be there by default by my understanding) is missing, or know how to get it to be there?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Same here on Snow Leopard Server 10.6.4 (upgraded from 10.5.8) on a Mac Pro. Would really like to get a shared address book going as that’s one of the reasons we upgraded to SLS. Trying to follow the ContactsMigrator step from the Apple Discussion that Nick linked to results in “Migration error: Server HTTP error 404” for me. Any clues would be much appreciated.

  • Com.apple.Server.Accounts error 2 - Local Network Group problem

    I am lost :-)
just to specify, this is not a production server, it is just a learning platform for me.
I did a format and start over my server configuration
    in order
    DNS
    DHCP
    Open Directory
    Profile Manager
    User and group
    File Sharing
    very basic config.
Somewhere during user and group something happen
I did create a new Local Network Group and 2 Local Network User, me and a Directory admin
but now, when I create a group, it seem I can only create local group
and I can't edit Local Network Group
    Local Group -> no problem
I can edit Local Group. I can add member
or I can go to a member and add it to a Local Group even if the user is a Local Network User
    it work
Local Network Group -> does not work
I can't edit Local Network Group, can't add member
if i go the same Local Network user I added to local group and try to add it to a Local Network group, I get this error
    com.apple.Server.Accounts error 2
I dont know where I went wrong :-)
    any idea
    Thank you

I just reformat and restart the configuration :-(   but I might have the same problem again, so i hope to understand why it happened.
I had the problem on both the server and a client machine.
Part of the Local Network User and Groups were greyed out, so I could not edit them
My airport setting for DNS was set to my server, so the client automatically got the local ip of the server for DNS.
On the server, initially, the formatting DNS IP was so to my airport, then I changed it to the DNS of my Internet provider.
but for the self ip 127.0.0.1 i did saw it there at the begining but maybe when did change later it might have been affected.
I did changed the System Preferences>Network setting to a fix IP even if my airport was set as the DHCP with a fix IP for the Mac Mini.
I remember not seeing a DNS in that page. I will check for that now that I am about to start again.
and also, I tried to change the DHCP to be from given from the Mac Mini (like I read in the book) but when I did a
    ipconfig getpacket en0
it was still showing the airport as the DHCP server
I will not set it this time.
    Thank you
I will come back later with some update
    Thank you

  • ICal refusing to open (com.apple.ical.plist file missing)

I have tried opening iCal and it refuses to open. The icon bounces on the dock, then asks if I want to report the issue to Apple. I have reported multiple times but I don't know how reporting it will help my iCal work again. (See below the dashed line for the error report.)
Since then, I have tried to replace iCal, but the software claims it cannot be installed on this machine.
I have tried to update my current iCal, but no updates are available.
I have browsed the forums and saw that some solutions were if HelveticaNeue was missing from my fonts. Got it.
And then I saw some threads about refreshing the com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either. What can I do?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest using optional install to reload iCal from your installation disks, then download the combo update for your machine and run. Then see will iCal start. If it doesn't, use console.app to see what error messages it reports.
com.apple.ical.plist... That's a problem. I don't have that file in my library at all. I can't seem to find any way to get it either.
It is created by iCal when it runs.

  • Com.apple.FontBook.plist file is missing. What should I do?

I looked in Library > Preferences when FontBook Kept Crashing, and com.apple.FontBook.plist is missing.
Wonder what caused it. What should I do to get it back?
I was organizing Fonts by category in FontBook and tossing out some junky free fonts I'd accidentally dropped into my Fonts folder weeks ago, just the day before FontBook started crashing.

The .plist file you want is in user level not root.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.FontBook.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.FontBook.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then try Font Book.
If it crashes again, then it's not corrupted Font Book preferences.
See if you can do this before Font Book crashes.
With Font Book open, from the menu bar click Font Book > File > Restore Standard Fonts

  • Groups com.apple.access_afp /calendar/chat...

I have sucessful setup the basic functionality of a 10.5 server.
1 shared folder is availible for guests.
Also I checked, that I can use the iCal and iChat services from a remote workstation.
Now, I added a few users through the workgroup manager.
But non of them can access the server through afp, also iChat and iCal refusing to connect, because of unsucessful authentication.
All users have checked the box: "access account", and, under the open directory options also "allow the user to log in" is checked.
Now, when I compare my admin account to the user accounts, I see, that I am in these additional groups:
    com.apple.access_afp
    com.apple.access_calendar
    com.apple.access_chat
    com.apple.access_dns
    com.apple.access_mail
    com.apple.access_smb
those standard users have not listed these groups.
From the name of the groups, I suspect, that to get access to afp, you have to be a member of com.apple.access_afp.
However, I am unable to assign any of these groups to a user, because those groups are not listed.
I must admit, I am rather new to 10.5 Server,
The last Servers I did setup were 10.0 and 10.2, 10.3
It might be possible I oversee something trivial.

    Followup:
Even, If i rechecked in the workgroupmanager that those new users are email-enabled, and have their calender enabled,
If I open the directory manager,
These attributes do not show up.
I looked, if I can restart the directory service, if I can do something else to commit changes/update... But found nothing.
Is it possible, I have to reboot the server after adding a user ? That would be ridiculous.

  • Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist---Should be 80, group is 0

I am new to the Mac world, so please bear with me.  I have freeze up issues with beachballs delux on my mid 2011 21.5 iMac with 2.5 GHz Intel Core I5 processor. When I run repairing permissions, it resolves the problem for a few days, but then returns back to the same problem.   It says "Library/Preferences?Com.apple.alf.plist.     Should be 80, group is 0
Can anyone tell me how to resolve this freeze up problems?  I origiginally had Lion operating system and when I upgraded to Mountain Lion the issue was better, but did not totally cure this.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Group differs on "Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist";

As the title suggests I got this issue which is annoying because it is causing high inactive memory & this obstacles all the rest . Means I must do 2-3 times a day repair permissions with Disk Utility .
    Group differs on “Library/Preferences/com.apple.alf.plist”;
It gets repaired & then all over again . So far I could not find a solution . I have already sent feedback to Apple .
That's all folks , if anyone knows how to handle this it would be nice , at least until there is an official response .
Thank you , have a nice day .

    bump
I actually have this all the time. com.apple.alf.plist is always repaired whenever Disk Utility repairs permissions.
I also came across somewhere that it was included in the solution for a problem about iTunes requesting permission to access internet everytime it is launched. And I had that issue as well. (iTunes asks for my permission for internet access everytime I launch it.) And the solution proposed for this included the deletion of this "com.apple.alf.plist" regarding a firewall issue. Although I deleted the file, Disk Utility still repairs this file (though iTunes haven't yet asked for internet permissions.) everytime I run the permission repair.
I suppose there has got to be a solution to keep the file stable, like without causing the repair.
Not a big issue, as mentioned in the thread title; but still, this may be the cause or result of something going on in the computer; so any suggestions are welcome.
    Cheers!

  • HT5194 Can i store my "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.configurator." file on a server?

    Hello,
I am trying to make it possible for apple configurator to be used on multiple computers so that i can share our VPP codes between them. I am in a K-12 setting and would really like to be able to have the ability to sync devices in multiple locations. Has anyone been able to do this?

If you have a server, can I suggest that instead of using Configurator to configure many iDevices you use Profile Manager to do it ?  Profile Manager is part of OS X Server and it can be used to enroll and configure many iDevices over the internet, without them needing to be plugged into any particular computer for updates.  In addition it can be used to lock or wipe an iPad reported as stolen.
    http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#profile-manager
Profile Manager uses the same kind of configurations as Configurator, it just sends them over the internet instead of needing a white wire.

  • Missing com.apple.alf.plist, and can't re-create it

All of my browsers are blocking content I believe due to a missing com.apple.alf.plist file. I've ran Repair Disk and Repair permissions, but it doesn't bring it back. Is there a manual way I can re-create the file?

OK, Since I haven't gotten any responses about this it must be a complicated issue.  Just as a quick check could some of you good people out there look at the "Get Info" window for the systempreferences.app and see if your permissions look like mine?  I'm still having trouble with the firewall settings not acting as expected such as apps and processes that I have approved/denid connection access not showing up in the firewall pane of system preferences and having to reapprove each startup.  Thank you in advance for any help on this.

  • Yosemite random Crash - discoveryd_helper[147]: Basic RemoteControl com.apple.discoveryd_helper Starting XPC Server

    Hi Everyone,
i have a crash every now and then. Looks like it has something to do with Networking or Bonjour.

anyone got any idea what it could be ? I learned that
there is no more com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist in OS X 10.10. The service that controls mDNSResponder is now discoverd. The plist file you are looking for is actually:
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.discoveryd.plist
You want to add --no-multicast to the ProgramArguments in that file.
      <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/usr/libexec/discoveryd</string> <string>--udsocket</string> <string>standard</string> <string>--loglevel</string> <string>Basic</string> <string>--logclass</string> <string>Everything</string> <string>--logto</string> <string>asl</string> </array>
    Becomes
      <key>ProgramArguments</key> <array> <string>/usr/libexec/discoveryd</string> <string>--udsocket</string> <string>standard</string> <string>--loglevel</string> <string>Basic</string> <string>--logclass</string> <string>Everything</string> <string>--logto</string> <string>asl</string> <string>--no-multicast</string> </array>
but doing this (adding --no-multicast) disables finding and communicating with printers in my network and my timemachine backup drive can't be found.
..... any clues ? this is driving me mad.

  • Missing com.apple.mrt.plist

Just realized it's missing. Have looked in /System/Library/LaunchDaemons. Shouldn't this have been installed with 10.6.8? (I installed from the combo.) Have searched the entire drive using EasyFind, but nowhere to be found.

When files are downloaded through the following applications:
    Entourage
    Safari
    Mail
    Firefox
    Thunderbird
    iChat
and other programs that use LSQuarantine
then the files are tagged with an extended attribute called com.apple.quarantine. When the downloaded file is run (automatically or manually), this triggers the use of Launch Services. Launch Services then triggers the XProtect scan of the file.
Unfortunately, if variants of these threats find their way on to your system via an application that doesn't set the com.apple.quarantine extended attribute, for example via:
    Skype
    Adium
    BitTorrent
and Finder (via USB keys, network share, etc ...)
XProtect is never triggered and thus these threats can run unfettered. However OSX/iWorks-A was distributed through infected torrents and so wouldn't be blocked by XProtect.
Users who have Sophos Anti-Virus installed with the on-access scanner enabled will never see this new XProtect functionality - the malware is detected by Sophos long before Launch Services gets to search for it.

    What's the problem?
    Thanks!

One area I've always looked at and have noticed an abundance of Mac jobs is New Zealand. Only problem is the job market there is extremely seasonal. The amount of jobs there (especially Mac related) seem to be directly related to the time of year. But on the plus side, getting work visas for New Zealand is typically pretty easy from what I hear. If you do a Google search for jobs in New Zealand you'll find a few job hunting sites that might help you out.

When Server is running, the computer on which Server runs has problems accessing a shared drive connected to that computer.  This problem started when Server started logging messages like the following.
    Feb  7 07:32:57 johns-imac com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[508] (com.akamai.client.plist[44806]): assertion failed: 13B42: launchd + 102012 [C35AEAF6-FCF6-3C64-9FC8-38829064F8A8]: 0xd

The problem goes away when Server is not running and disk sharing is handled by Mac OSX 10,9.1 client.
What can one do to correct this issue with Server?

  • Server admin needs com.apple.servermgrd.plist - which is not on my mac

Hi, I've installed server admin 10.5.7. It tries to connect to my server then says "there is no server available at the address you entered". Found a topic in the forums that says I need to run /System/Library/LaunchDaemons /com.apple.servermgrd.plist but it is not on my mac. Can someone please tell me where I can download it, or even post the contents (it's a gob of xml).
    Thanks much for any help.

Chances are that there is something wrong with DNS or something else on your network. plist files are files that are created when you run apps. Can you provide more info on how you set up the server - has it worked before, is this a new instal, have you verified that your server/network is working properly aside from this issue?

  • Com.apple.alf.plist file keeps changing group membership

Hey All, I've read several discussions about this issue.  The com.apple.alf.plist file keeps changing group membership from admin to wheel.  Disk Utility repair changes the group membership to admin but it will change back to wheel during normal use of the computer, it seems that accessing systempreferences.app and security preferences will change the group to wheel.
    I don't really want to get into a discussion about the wheel account, unless necessary, but since this is a very important system settings file I'd like it to work correctly.  I have noticed several issues with the firewall not responding as expected such as turning off by itself, and app settings changing or disappearing from the security preference pane.  So, I have deleted the plist file and restarted as recommended on other discussions but the issue always returns during normal use.  I think it might be the application owning the plist file causing the issue, but I am not sure which one owns the plist file.  I assume it would be systempreference.app since I think it is a firewall plist file. The permissions for systempreferences.app is strange also;
    - everyone - custom
    - system    - read/write
    - wheel      - read/write
    - everyone  -read
This may be the culprit but I tried to make a minor change, so as not to mess up the operating system, and disk utility repair permissions just puts it back the way it was.   Any ideas about this would be very appreciated.
Note:  I have done a complete system reinstall and the issue still returns.
