Com.onlinebackup.daemon.plist conflict with Aperture 3
I had an ongoing issue where the active Aperture 3 window (mostly, but sometimes even other app's active windows) would suddenly no longer be the active, highlighted window. This was particularly aggrevating when culling through images, selecting several of them, and then pressing the - or + keys to change the image rating. I'd have images selected and then press the key only to hear the system alert sound and find the Aperture window that I was working in was, somehow, no longer active. I then had to click on the library window again to make it the active window. This was happening all the time and the active library window was somehow becoming no longer the active window at various time intervals of a couple seconds up to maybe 20-30 seconds, usually within 5-10 seconds.
After much searching and finding nothing at all on this issue, I dove in and started troubleshooting startup items, login items, 3rd party preference panes, and finally think I've found the conflict. I found that Library/LaunchAgents/com.onlinebackup.daemon.plist is the offending file. When it is installed, I experience the issue. When I remove it from Library/LaunchAgents, the issue no longer exists. I can't find any info on what this file does or what app, etc. installed it. Does anyone know what it is/does? Is it part of OS X (currently running 10.8) or is it the result of an app install?
The plist file you mention com.onlinebackup.daemon.plist is not preset on my ML system either.
In addition I wouldn't expect it to be as it is not a valid name for a legitimate plist file. Apple brands all there plist files as com.apple.xxxxxx and third party vendors are expected to follow the same naming convention so that a plist file can be identified and match to its respective vendor/program.
So for example in my home LaunchAgent folder i have a file com.vladalexa.MagicPrefs.plist, the preference file for the program MagicPrefs and in the system folder org.macosforge.xquartz.startx.plist. the plist file that starts X11.
So you can see that legitimate plist files follow a specific naming pattern. I advise you to disable the file ASAP and try to figure out how it got on your system.

Problems with slow finder and com.apple.finder.plist
I have four users in my marketing department, all running Mac Pros with 10.6. and Adobe CS5 and some other software for design work. Each one has a slowness issue using the Finder (by itself and inside programs (ie, within Photoshop and going to Open)) when accessing our network drives. Other people, including myself, can access those same directories without slowness.
'Slowness' is an understatement. What would normally take a second is taking 5 to 10 minutes to show content in folders.
When I delete "com.apple.finder.plist" off their systems, and reboot, everything snaps back to being speedy, but it doesn't last and they need to remove that file once a day.
I have two saved plist files before they deleted it, but I don't know what do look for when I view the contents with a plist editor.
Can anyone offer some suggestions on why this could be happening? Or how can I view and see what this file is being hung up on?Download and run all the cleaning and maintainence aspects of the free OnyX while each machine is offline and reboot, leave offline until all are completed and then put them back online.
See if that clears the issue or reveals some more issues with the checks.

I have some troubles recently with Final Cut Pro 7 and would like to remove my preferences. I can't find any "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder but I do have some preferences. So, where could be the file ?

I am unable to open my Aperture2.
The following warning message shows on top of the ususl opening window:

It looks like some kind of conflict with an old trial version 3, to which I never upgraded.
Any tips to help me solving the issue?Do you need to run Aperture 2, or do you need to open the "Aperture 3 Trial Library2.aplibrary"?
If you only want to run Aperture 2, then launch Aperture by double-clicking your regular Aperture 2 library; this should open Aperture on the correct library. In Aperture 3 you also simply could hold down the options-key while double-clicking the Aperture Applications icon in the Dock - probably this works in Aperture 2 as well,
But if you need to open your Aperture 3 trial library with Aperture 2, because you converted your Aperture 2 library to Aperture 3 format; there is no easy way to do it. The best would be to find a backup of your library from the time before you converted it. If you do not have such a backup, then the easiest way would be to upgrade to Aperture 3 at this point.
I do not know enough about the Aperture 2 library format to be able to tell you how to manually downgrade an Aperture 3 library to Aperture 2 format.

Error in Loading Daemon plist programmatically
I'm trying to a Load LaunchDaemon plist from my Mac Application.When i try to load it in terminal it loads successfully, but when i try to load it thru my code, it doesn't work.

Thing is it shows the daemon plist is loaded successfully, but it's not. And After system restart the daemon starts fine. The plist loads fine in terminal. I have even tried with '-w' & '-F' to force load the daemon, but it doesn't loads at all. The weird thing is it just keeps saying that the daemon is loaded.
Now what am i doing wrong here ..?Also, now that I look a little closer, the way you've set up the Program and ProgramArguments keys looks funky. If you're using a full path specification without arguments you only need the Program key. If you want to use both, it seems to me the first line in the ProgramArguments key should just be the name of the executable:

As the launchd.plist man page says (unhelpfully) the Program key maps to the first argument of execvp and the first line of the ProgramArguments key maps to the second argument of execvp. My dim understanding of this (based on an explanation someone else gave me) is that execvp's second argument is meant as a kind of display name. if you give one or the other the system will interpret it as a path, but specifying both as full paths is probably not what the system expects. -

Com.apple.safari.plist missing in preferences folder
Hey everybody,
my safari has become unusably slow. I checked for solutions and found out I should delete the com.apple.safari.plist. So I browsed my preferences folder in the library for the file and could not find it. I checked my whole Library for any Safari related file and there was none.
Has anyone an explanation for this? I already reinstalled the OS which didn't change a thing.

I am using a mid 2012 rmbp with 8gb ram, which has become a little laggy in general since the yosemite in updateUnfortunately, deleting the com.apple.safari.plist didn't solve my original problem. Safari is still so superslow sometimes. And then its fast again. But Chrome is always faster and immediately responding. I've run a test with Etresoft:

Problem with Aperture 3.6 Can't open Preferences
I had a problem with Aperture 3.6; opened a new Library from the Vault, now cannot open Aperture Preferences. When I attempt to open preferences I get a very thin vertical line about 1 ½ inches long?? Any fixes for this/ Thanks, Vic

Steps to reset preference settings
To reset your Aperture user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
Quit Aperture.
In the Finder choose "Go to folder" from the Go menu.
Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field. Press the Go button.
Remove the "com.apple.Aperture.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Restart your computer if you're using OS X Mavericks.
The locations of your Aperture libraries are stored in the preference file listed above. If you have stored your library outside the default location of ~/Pictures/Aperture Library, make a note of where the library is before deleting the Aperture preferences file. If you have more than one library, you can bring up a dialog to choose which one to load by pressing Option immediately after you open Aperture. -
Safari 5.1 file permissions of com.apple.Safari.plist (Read only impossible???)
Hi everyone,
i try to set the user agent to a differnt string. To be sure that the changes in com.apple.Safari.plist are valid i copied the file after i set safari to the changes i want it to have. i did not write anything into the file by hand. Then i set the permission to the file to Read only for my user and copied the file back to ~/Library/Preferences.
After starting safari it sets everything back to its defaults. Safari also changes the file permissions back to read&write for my user. How can i write protect this file?
If thats not possible, does anyone have an idea how to set the user-agent of safari to another string as default value? btw. i also would like to know how to set private mode to on by default.
I don't want to change my browser just because a simple configuration file's permission cannot be set permanently.
Thanks for your help!after searching a long time i found a solution for the user-agent problem. Well it's not what i wanted in the first place, but at least this works. I can hide the user agent with the use of a small caching proxy server called "polipo".

I'm not sure if there are precompiled binaries available. I compiled it from source using the gcc environment shipped with xcode by executing "./configure", "make" and "sudo make install".
To run it at startup i used this plist file:

i saved it under the name fr.jussieu.pps.polipo.plist in /Library/LaunchDaemons/.
then i modified the example configuration file from the source package and saved it to /etc/polipo.conf. This is the essential modification to hide the user agent:
censoredHeaders = user-agent
There are more options available to censor the Headers and to increase privacy (set-cookie2, cookie2, from, x-pad, link, accept_language).
after that i started the daemon:
sudo launchctl load /Library/LaunchDaemons/fr.jussieu.pps.polipo.plist
at last i configured my proxy settings of osx to my new local proxy for http:
host: 127.0.0.1
port: 8118
that should do it ... i hope this is usefull for someone else ...
please note: hiding the user-agent or blocking cookies may cause websites not to act normal. -

These boards are very picky with RAM. As Bonz has pointed out their is an approved list near the top of the Forum but unfortunately I don't beleive Kingmax is on it. Sometimes the generic RAMS run, sometimes not. It seems to be hit or miss. If you want a recommendation of good quality RAM I would suggest MUSHKIN first and CORSAIR second. Good Luck

I ordered my Macbook Air with Aperture two years ago. I now have an iMac - can I use that with Aperture in any way? I appreciate that it is a different computer but I am now the end user of both devices and I was just wondering if it was possible.

However I believe you can have Aperture installed on two machines however only one may be using it at a time.

Flash Player 10 does not work in IE or Firefox. What could it conflict with?
I'm using Firefox 3.6.8 (and sometimes IE 8.0.6001.18702IC) on Windows XP Pro, SP 3.
For some weeks now, I have been unable to hear any sounds on anything Flash-based, from YouTube to games at MSN.com or embedded videos on any site using Flash. Initially I had assumed it to be because of having QuickTime installed because I know QT likes to hijack everything. I uninstalled QT (and Real Player) and Flash Player then reinstalled Flash Player (and Shockwave Player just in case) and guess what?
Yup. Nothing. When I uninstalled everything, I used a program called Revo Uninstaller, which includes a registry cleaning option. I then used Abexo and WinASO's registry cleaners to make sure I got everything else that even looked like QuickTime off my hard drive.
When I reinstalled Flash, the following programs appeared in C:\Windows\system 32\Macromed\Flash:

When I check IE's "Tools" and look for add-ons, it says that Flash (Shockwave Flash) is enabled. I even enabled the other Adobe add-ons for Acrobat and such just to be sure. Firefox shows Shockwave Flash and Shockwave for Director both to be enabled. The Flash control panel settings don't help: I have all sites set to store about 100 KB on my computer to make sure there's enough room for everything but still nothing.
Before anyone asks, my audio drivers are up to date, thanks to the manufacturer's website. I have DirectX 9.0c installed and everything else works fine. I can play audio and video elsewhere with no problems. It's only Flash that's showing me this trouble and there's no hint as to what else could be interfering with Flash.
Any ideas?Well, great. I tried the uninstall/reinstall before, but not with the uninstaller, so I was hopeful that this time might do it. No such luck. The video still plays, but no sound.
All the sound settings are working with everything else from games to media players. I set Windows' firewall to allow both the ActiveX and plugin for Flash, just in case.

Now what? I'm really not looking forward to a reformat and reinstall, but it's looking like that's what it's going to take.

Something is strange with your list of modules; you list FlashUntil10i_Plugin (10.1.102.64), but this is really 10.1.85.3
I recommend that you uninstall Flash Player completely (using http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html), then restart Windows, and delete all remaining files in C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash.
Next reinstall both ActiveX (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe) and the plugin (http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe).

Problem with jquery slide show conflict with vertical navigation menu in Firefox & Chrome. Works in IE. This is my first time trying to post a question - so please be kind. I am also not good with code and am finding css a real challenge after learning to design based on tables. I'm using CS5.

I realize the images are not ideally sized - I'll fix those once I get the pages to function. Maybe I need a different slide show? I would prefer a widget that I can modify to required size & postition. Again - I'm not good at building with code from scratch.
The problem is the naviagation links that are directly next to the slide show do not work in Firefox of Chrome. They do work in IE.
I've read about using jQuery.noConflict(); code but can't figure out the correct way to use it in my case or whether that's even part of the solution. I know my code is not well organized as I have cobbled together from various sources in an attempt to format the page the way the client wants it. Also, FYI, I will eventually try to make the page work in Surreal CMS.
I've spent sevaral days over the last several weeks trying to solve sth slide show/navigation conflict - so any specific light you can shed will be much appreciated.
