COM Surrogate eating up resources and using up network

i open up task manager and there are like 50 com surrogates in the processes tab and theyre all taking up a lot of memory and network
it has nothing to do with deleting thumbnails or video codecs that i have already researched
please help

This phenomena is called . Certain types of sites (e.g. Flash driven) seem to increase the RAM requirements, and correspondingly CPU usage. How much RAM is installed in your computer? If RAM is 1 GB or less, you'll probably see fan activity as CPU usage increases.
Best remedy at the moment is to Quit/Restart.

Settings for wireless network connections are actually stored in two separate places on your Mac, so in addition to the correct advice offered by Jolly Giant, you will also need to delete old network listings in KeyChain Access.
Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > KeyChain Access
Locate the name of the wireless network that you want to delete and click it to highlight it
Click Delete on your keyboard
It would be a good idea to go ahead and also delete the current connection as well in case it has become corrupted. This will clear out the old settings and when you next connect to the network and enter the password, the new settings will be preserved.

Can I ditch my landline internet service and use a network extender & hotspot instead?

I live in a rural area with lousy landline internet access but a pretty good cell signal. I've heard that a person can use the combination of internet extender & jetpack for internet access. Is that correct, or do I need to have DSL in order to use the network extender?
And is it necessary to spend $250 for a network extender? It looks like they ordinarily run around $50. Why is the Verizon one so steep?

The network extender requires a landline internet connection to function correctly.

COM Surrogate has stopped working

I've read the posts about this and nothing is working for me.
I started getting this message a few weeks ago. It comes up whenever I go into the folder I have video files stored in. It pops up, telling me the COM Surrogate has stopped working and allows me to close the box - and when I do, another one comes up telling me the same thing, etc etc. I have upgraded Divx, I don't have Nero, searches don't seem to bring back any results for Urge (all common causes it seems) so I don't know what to do.
This is the first actual problem/annoyance I've had with Vista so far.
Searches on Google have said that the Vista Codec Package is a fix for it, but I don't want to risk downloading this from some random site - especially if it's not going to work.

I have the same problem, related to COM Surrogate. I have been dealing with this really anoying problem for several weeks, and i'm getting tired of it. If this continues, i'm going back to good linux ubuntu, which excels in multimedia content (almost flawless, even when rotating the 3d desktop cube).
I was very disappointed after installing windows vista SP2 today in the morning, because it provided a temporary "solution" to this problem. For those of you who have this problem, the messages will disappear after installing SP2 because the explorer will switch to the ugly icons view instead of thumbnails. While this workaround will be useful for a few days, it is not a solution, but a simple trick.
If you switch back to thumbnail view, the problem appears again, even after updating to SP2.
To microsoft guys: Please provide a patch for Vista! this is really anoying because my laptop, which i use almost exclusively for entertainment, shows this message over and over when I open folders containing video files.
By the way, the solution of Ronnie didn't work at all. It made things worse. My computer has hardware DEP, so i don't see why i should disable DEP to any program. Anyway, I disabled DEP to the COM Surrogate and the message didn't show anymore, but it resulted in explorer crashing a few seconds later on my computer, after that i decided to perform the windows update in the hope that the problem was already solved but nothing.
Please post when the update is ready! I'm getting bored at home :(

ACE Context - Error: Resources in use

I am trying to associate a resource to a newly created context to enable configuration of sticky sessions within the context. When I assigne the context to the Resource Member it comes back as errored Resources in Use. Any idea's how I can get this configured as my deadlines are tight (thanks to our web developers bringing forward a go-live date to Monday).
The Key configurations are here:

From my first idea I would think you use more then 100% of your sticky resource. maybe you should provide the whole context config.

Depriciation key and useful life periods in asset master should in display mode only

At the time of creation asset master AS01 we are given the Asset class, company code and similar of asset (1) then we click enter button we will get Create asset: master data screen here in general tab we enter the description and in time dependent tab we enter cost center manually

When we click on Depreciation tab here the Depreciation key and use life fields are automatically come with Dep.key(ABC) and use life(15) (Because we maintained in OAYZ)
Here user have a chance to change the Dep.key(ABC) and use life(15).so my requirement is these two fields are display with only display mode .
User don’t have chance to modify this.

Hi Anil,
The screen layout for Asset and its depreciation tab are different. You have to make these fields as Display only in the screen layout. This can be done using T-Code AO21. Below are the screenshots for the path and screen layout for your reference. This should solve your issue

Apple Remote Desktop and 2 different networks

Hello everyone,
The issue is as follows... I manage an iMac lab with about 24 Macs and I've used ARD to control/manage the Macs. Recently we installed cable wifi, but did not want to flood the signal with one router and 24 computers so i got 2 cisco routers to split the signal for 12 iMacs per router, and since then i have not been able to control them all at once because i can only be in one network at a time. Before it was easier because they were all wired, but it was slow as helllll... what can i do? i mean i did try to have them all on the same router, but that didnt go well at all as you all can imagine. One hose and 24 people trying to get a gallon of water at once, (not happening). Please help, Thanks a million.

So are you saying you have two separate IPs that host the networks? and are split or?
Because you should be able to enter the lowest Network address and the highest network address of your networks and they all should show up.
we have 200 Macs per subnet here and using Scanner > Network Range and using 169.xxx.xxx.xxx - 255.xxx.xxx.xxx as our range they all appear properly and can add them to the list.
you may have additional firewalls in place on those routers, but generally that method will allow it to scan and see all ports and addresses regardless of subnet, location, etc.

Yes, you can import to an external drive by choosing it from the Import Screen.
Once an Event or Project is in iMovie, it is best to move it to the external using iMovie, so the Project does not lose links to the Event.

Size and number of entries.
Directory structure and access permissions.
Virtual attributes, class of service, and indexing.
Usage, types of access, and access patterns.

DSC capturing and using resource output

I am currently building a solution to rapidly create / destroy environments in Azure. DSC appears to be a good framework to base this on. However I am running into a few problems along the way! and documentation is somewhat scant when it comes to fine details.
My first issue is that I need to keep the cloud service name flexible (incase the one I attempt is taken) but there doesn't appear to be a mechanism for taking the output of one resource and applying it to the input of the next. So if I create cloud service
az[0-9] in one resource , how does the resource that depends on it know to deploy a solution to that service.
It strikes me that this is exactly what Set-TargetResource is for, to obtain these parameters to be taken used as part of the logic, but I have been unable to find any details about how that works.

Firefox sometimes freezes up for a few minutes and begins using 47% of cpu resources and sometimes also extra 100-200kb of memory

since updating from 3.6.xx to firefox 5, 6 and now 7, firefox sometimes will freeze while loading a site and use 42-50% of cpu resource. it also sometimes doubles or trebles memory it uses at same time as freezing, and freezes for 2 or more minutes. when it comes back sometimes it will have failed to load a page and will display the url but a white screen. this can happen any site, but seems to occur more when on image sites. usually i have more than one ff window open, one of which is an iboard, and the freezing seems to occur more often when either posting, or when opening a subboard or more often a thread in tabs or new windows. problem seemed to be helped when i disabled a recently installed java plugin but didnt disappear, and it can still happen anytime with only one window/tab open. the only common thing seems to be the site is either refreshing, or loading.

iPhoto is Apple's included program to manage your photo's and pictures.
It receives updates over time with Software updates and new machine or iLife purchases.
When iPhoto gets updated or a newer version is used, it may alter iPhoto support files, but newer iPhoto versions usually always compatible with older files which it then updates.
If you used a newer iPhoto on your iPhoto support files, then they got altered to the newer format, older iPhoto versions can't read the older format.
Somewhere along the line you somehow got a older version of iPhoto on your computer, you need to fine the newer version of iPhoto (not this photo manager, sounds like another program)
Or somewhere along the line you used a newer iPhoto version (like on another Mac) and it altered the iPhoto support files on your older version of iPhoto.
So the key here is to find the newest version of iPhoto and use that to access your iPhoto support files.
If you didn't access your iPhoto support files from another Mac, then you should have the newer iPhoto version on your computer.
Once you find it, and get it in the Dock, you should remove the older iPhoto version from your computer to prevent this from happening again.
Lastly, if the newer version of iPhoto is somehow gone off your computer, you should be able to get a copy off the latest OS X install disk or iLife using a free program called Pacifist.

option discovered in preferences. Really this and any feature that moves deletes or edits a users data should as far as possible be OFF BY DEFAULT. It shouldn't by default and without the users specific say do this dangerous and unnecessary thing without even letting the user know what it's doing!!! And then cause me a few hours (as i'm new to mac) searching for the option so as to switch it off. If i hadn't noticed the status cage declaring that it was copying files then i might never have twigged that this insane thing was occurring. And if i hadn't of noticed i would have been left maintaining the contents of the folder i copied the files to, the folder which as far as i was informed and so believed was also the location of the music files i was playing. How does Apple justify this 'genius' piece of software non-design? Surely it will hurt no one if this was off by default for new users - overall at least i dare say it would cause a lot less distress in the future for the unsuspecting public at large. Make sure Readr is closed. Go to the Applications form, look for the Adobe Reader icon, double click on it, and follow the lead. Restart Reader when finished.

here is a cheaper solution than camera kit and a lot easier if you have WIFI available.
I use the PhotoSync APP (I think its a $1.99) will transfer videos and photos over WIFI to any other IOS device or even PC/MAC. Great app since I like doing video and photos on my IPHONE and transfer to IPAD2 without synching through computer or doing cloud based storage.
You can even send photos/videos from your MAC/PC to your IOS devices that way too. Makes it so much easier.
