Comaptibility Mode
Hi
I have created a custom .bat file that I would like to run on one of our Server 2012 instances, however I would like to run the batch file in Compatibility Mode for Windows XP.
Normally I would simply Right Click > Properties > Compatibility tab
However there is no Compatibility tab for my batch file on Server 2012. I tested on both a Server 2003 & Server 2008 instance and there is a Compatibility tab for my batch file.
Compatibility tab is available for .exe files on my Server 2012 instance.
Has this functionality been deprecated from Server 2012, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks for your reply. After doing some more testing I think running the batch file in compatibility mode is a red herring.
We have an ERP program that runs from a network drive. In order to run properly in anything higher than 2003/XP the .exe needs to be run in Compatibility Mode for Server 2000 or Windows XP.
Normally we would just run the compatibility trouble-shooter or create a batch file using "set __COMPAT_LAYER=Win2000" and our ERP App opens fine on Server 2008/Win 7. However under the same circumstances the App won't open in Server 2012 - either
using the compatibility trouble-shooter or using a batch file to set compatibility.
Running the ERP App LOCALLY (rather than from network share) on Server 2012 in Compatibility Mode works fine. It is only when run from network share that it does not work.
Does anyone know if compatibility mode settings or some other security settings have been changed in Server 2012 that could affect an app being opened from network share?

PSE 7 Editors Hang Badly in Windows 7RC x64
Currently running Windows 7RC x64 on a Dell XPS-720-H2C o/c to 3.73 GHz with 6 GB of PC8500 DDR2 o/c to 1066 and a pair of NVidia 8800GTX display adapters in SLI. The machine runs Windows 7 like butter and is a joy to use. Purchased and downloaded PSE 7.0 andf the install was flawless. Ran the organizer and cataloged all my photos very quickly with no performance issues.
Opened the Editor and created a new file (500x503, 72dpi, 24 bit) and it took about 2.5 to 3 minutes for the image area to show up. PSE7 was totally locked the entire time but did NOT show as Not Responding in Task Manager. Once the image shows up, any changes to the file also take 2.5 to 3 minutes. Very frustrating. Every one of my other applications are running flawlessly in this Win 7 envoronment.
Uninstalled and reinstalled with the same result. Changed out RAM (I have quite a few spares lying around) and still no change. Enabled/disabled SLI which had zero affect. Ran the executables in a variety of comaptibility modes, still with no improvement. Not sure what else to try... maybe PSE 7.0 is not compatible with Windows 7.
I went through much of this forum and couldn't find anything substantive regarding performance problems with Vista x64 and essentially nothing regarding Windows 7RC x64. Any ideas out there?

DougOthers have reported PSE working with some versions of Windows 7, and many have reported PSE working with Vista 64. And many people have various problems getting PSE to run on Vista 32. So it's entirely possible your problems are not directly related to Windows 7 or 64-bit.

Trying to install Cs2 but old indesign won't uninstall or repair?
Trying to install the "new" posted on adobe, Cs2. Win vista for business. 1st step- add/remove programs. old indesign won't uninstall or repair! Get " was interrupted - try again" "can't find xxxxx file in dat 1 cabinet" ???
Searched forums for hours now! Help please!Just went back through my start menu, and it CS, not CS2 that would not install under any condition on Windows 7. CS2 is running in the Windows XP mode Virtual Machine. XP mode is a free feature of Windows 7 Pro and Ultimate, and does not install on Vista.
That said, you can download and install Windows Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/support/virtual-pc-2007.aspx) which is a virtualization environment, and you can install Windows XP as a virtual machine from a set of XP disks.
There are people (and you seem to be one) who have successfully, more or less, gotten CS2 to install on Vista. I never ran Vista, so I'm shooting in the dark here a bit, but I would make the following recommendations for trying to get the programs installed:
First, run MSconfig and turn off all the unnecessary startup programs like Anti-virus and spyware scanners, third party firewalls, instant messengers, iTunes, browser helpers and toolbars, etc, and also go to the Services tab, hide all Microsoft services, and you can probably turn off just about everything that is left (lots of antivirus stuff runs as a service, for example). Re-boot into an adminsitrator account, cancel MSConfig when it reopens, and find the downloaded installer. If you have not already run the .exe file to extract the installer, do that next.
Once the installer is extracted, find the Setup.exe file, and right click it. In Windows 7 I have an entry to Troubleshoot Compatibility, and hopefully you have something similar. Choosing that gives me two options, Use Recommended Settings, which might work, but there's no indication of what they might be, or Troubleshoot Program. Choosing that should bring up another dialog where hopefully you can see a checkbox that says the program used to work in an earlier version, which you should check, and clear any others, then press next, which should bring up a list of previous versions where you can select Windows XP.
From there it should run the setup program in XP comaptibility mode, and once installed you should be able to set the program itself to also run in XP compatibility mode.
When the installation is complete you can run MSConfig again and click the Normal Startup radio button and reboot. -

The first time I enter everything works fine.

Premire CC was working, then I updated now it crashes when i open it
It crashes on me every time, sometimes whilst launching sometimes a few seconds after launching. (below)
I have run it in comaptability mode, updated my graphics drivers, uninstalled it and re installed it - no joy.
All i know is that it was working fine until this morning, then i downloaded the latest update and now it crashes - constantly. well done Adobe. Any chance of you telling me how you broke it, and what i have to do to work around it?

Premiere CC worked fine up until this morning (10/7/13), the latest version broke it. other threads would seem to suggest that video drivers needed updating... but my Sony Vaio laptop was absolutely already on the latest drivers - agh! how to fix? this..
uninstall Premiere using creative cloud. then uninstalled by video driver (by 'rolling back' to the previous version') - which in this case was bog standard VGA. reboot Windows.
now .. install Premiere CC again. (whilst still in VGA mode). THEN! install the latest video driver... et voila! it hasn't crashed since (touch wood, cross fingers).
a classic case of how Windows 'layers' its drivers, and having the new version of Premiere CC on top of exisiting latest video drivers didn't work... but having the latest video drivers installed AFTER premiere CC was installed .. worked.
a pain, yes. but working? also yes!

upon selecting html transitional or xhtml transitional it was
solved.
with strict it doesn't work.
i'll go through the code to find errors but with transitional
(being more

Digital Cameras that have Native QT Mode for Movies
Hello everyone, some advice please. I'm looking for a point and shoot digital camera that has:
1. An optical viewfinder, ie. Canon or Kodak as far as I can tell
2. Good quality lens, i.e. Canon & Sony for instance
3. Image stabilizer system Canon for instance
4. Native mode QT videos i.e. Samsung & Nikon as far as I can tell
5. low noise at high ISO settngs i.e. Canon but not Panasonic.
Can't seem to find all 5 in the same camera. Does anybody have experience with the same issues? Partial comaptability with QT as in with the most popular AVI file formats, seems to bother a lot of people.
Willing to comprmise on QT compatability if I have too, but obviously since I'm posting on a QT forum, QT is important to me. Would love to hear from anyone who has seen the same issues before (pun intended).

It might be helpful to someone else who doesn't yet have a digital camera: After playing around with Iphoto using emailed to me pictures, I thought I'd try seeing how someone else's digital camera worked with my imac. I asked a friend to bring her two Nikon digital cameras and her usb cable when she came to visit. When we plugged both ends of the cable in, we couldn't get the pictures uploaded. Her Nikon manual said to push the OK button on her camera to do this. Nothing happened. Then I saw her manual said she needed to use something called Picture Project on her Windows computer, which she then said came on a cd when she bought the camera. Figuring that maybe Nikon might have this "driver" on a web site, in mac format (like hp print drivers), I found this code and downloaded it. Again by pressing the ok button on her camera, nothing happened. So I checked around the Nikon web site, and with some computers, one must click the Transfer button from the computer to pull in the pictures (rather than push then in via the camera's ok button). Still nothing happened. When I went to Picture Project's Preferences and deselected Auto Start (from the camera, I believe), and then selected Transfer, wala, all of her pictures, transferred. Hopefully, this helps someone.
Now my mac is set up for friends visiting, with their Nikon cameras, and I am learning more about what I want in a camera. -
After receiving an error when I try to install the latest update of OS-X, I took my laptop to oour schools IT dept. They tried to run the update in safe mode and then they got an error saying the system could not find the hard drive. Now they want to run a clean install which loses 1000's of docs and pictures. I have Block I exams in med school next Monday and all of my notes and slides are on that hard drive.
The IT dept took the hard drive out and tried to back it up and they said they other computer could not connect or find my hard drive.
Major panic....
I have Norton antivirus and have never found any viruses on the system. I also have a program called ExamSoft which some other students here have noted they had similar crashes. Not sure if that is the issue...Several take home messages here:
always back up before you update.
always back up anything you don't want to lose. Kind of like flossing. Only floss the teeth you don't want to lose.
Norton is very, very bad software, and you should get rid of it.
You don't need antivirus software on your mac. Antivirus software on macs causes more trouble than it is worth.
Your hard drive may be failing and thus may not be salvageable.
You could try booting into the recovery partition and seeing if you can repair your hard drive.
If that doesn't work, then there is a small chance that a third party utility (like Disk Warrior or TechTool) might be able to fix your drive (if it is not failing).
If that doesn't work, you may be able to send your drive and a lot of cash to a drive recovery service and see if they can get your files off it.
In the mean time, get notes and slides from a (smart) friend. -
Running Dual boot windows 8 and win 7 pro with xp mode installed!! I love it!!
It took over 2 days to figure out how to adjust the bios to get my win 7 pro DVD to boot and install dual boot on this GREAT MACHINE!!
Step 1: using diskmgmt.msc you have to shring the C partition. I shrunk it so I had 80GB remaining as unallocated space.
Step 2: You have to enter the machine Bios adn set the BIOS to Both and UEFI as first
Step 3: Connect your usb dvd
Step 4: Put your win 7 pro dvd in the usb dvd drive
Step 5: Reboot your machine and when it starts press F12 to get the boot menu and select the usb dvd drive then press enter
The machine restarts
Message on screen says press a key to boot from cd/dvd
Press space and it boots up the win 7 pro DVD
After files copy and load the setup screen asks to accept the agreement and where to install win 7
BE SURE TO SELECT THE 80GB location
Then follow thru the win 7 prompts to load it.
When the machine restarts you will see a dual boot screen with Windows 7 on top as first selection and Windows 8 below it as 2nd selection.
Make sure to hit enter with windows 7 selected
The win 7 installation completes.
You will see many items with drivers not installed dont fret.
You can load most of the drivers by highlighting the device in control panel/device manager and pick update driver then select BROWSE for DRIVER and be sure to put in drive D:\ which is now the windows 8 drive and hit search.
Many of the windows 8 drivers installed with no issue.
The Realtek driver was an exception .. goto to the lenovo site and pick the x100e tablet and download the LAN driver from there about (4MB). Copy it to flash drive and install it in win 7 from the .exe file. The driver for LAN will install sucessfully. The version of the driver is 7.46 something the 7.11 versions do not workl.
I have only 3 drivers that I could not find - 2 list as unknown and are related to ACPI or power management and 1 lists as USB controller but all the USB stuff works without it.
Be sure to either shutdown the system or sign out of win 8 when your done so you get the dual boot menu. If you shutdown while logged into win 8 the next time you start up it will go right to win 8 until you signout and restart.
Just to let you know an easy way to shutdown is go to the desktop and press ALT + FN + F4 and a shutdown menu comes up on the desktop.
Once win 7 pro is installed you can download the XP mode free from Microsoft and install it.
This is of course AFTER you have ACTIVATED WINDOWS 7 ONLINE with YOUR ACTIVATION KEY(you supply).
ENJOY! This is the BEST machine I ever had!It's been many, many years since I don't do dual boot anymore. Don't find the reason to do it, either. Different kinds of virtualization should be enough. Anyway...

Can't view data in browse mode.
I have a database of about 50 records I can view the data in list mode but when I switch to Browse the page turns grey. I trashed the preferences but no improvement.

Dragging is supported automatically by clicking on and then dragging the title bar. If you want to customize the behaviour then you would need to look at the UI. Good luck. -
Running Android apps on Yoga 2 Pro in tablet mode
I've not been impressed with Windows Metro when using my Yoga 2 Pro in tablet mode, so I have installed BlueStacks (http://www.bluestacks.com/).
So far it's been pretty good, with the occasional glitch.
Anyone else tried it?
NeilIm interested in knowing as well...... I think it is great to use bluestacks on this machine!

On Screen Keyboard Glitch in Tablet Mode - On Screen Keyboard minimizes / disappears / slides down

New Yoga owner here ( just bought it yesterday) and within minutes of setting the computer up I noticed that the on screen keyboard was malfunctioning when the yoga is in tablet mode. Specifically, it pops up for about a second and then, without me touching or clicking or doing anything, it quickly slides back down. repeated attempts to bring up the keyboard end up, frustratingly, with the same result. what is perplexing to me is the on screen keyboard works fine in laptop mode (when I need it least).
Someone else already started a post on this BUT it was marked as 'solved' (which it wasn't) so I figured I'd start new thread. The solution on the previous thread was to simply 'refresh' windows to get rid of any new drivers that were downloaded since purchasing the yoga, but I did not download or update anything prior to this problem arising (as I said, the problem seemed to occur within a few minutes of turning the machine on for the first time). In any case, I tried the refresh and it did not work so clearly my problem is not that I downloaded an incompatible or faulty driver. Please Help! I love this machine and I'm trying to see past the other flaws I've noticed so far (subtle screen flickering, inconsistent touch sensitivity etc), but this issue is starting to really undermine my confidence in the product quality and, from a productivity standpoint, it is a real deal breaker to not have full tablet functionality.

Go to Solution.I had the same problem with the disappearing virtual keyboard within hours of starting to use my new Yoga 13. I read somewhere that it was a problem with an incompatible Synaptics driver, and when I looked in the control panel, it showed that the Synaptics driver had been updated on my Yoga as of the day I bought it. I think somehow by agreeing to automatic updates of the software, the Synaptics driver is updated to an incompatible version. So what I did was I removed the Synaptics driver, using the Windows program uninstaller tool, rebooted, and then found the Synaptics driver at the Lenovo site which is specifically labelled as the Yoga 13 driver. I installed that, and the keyboard is now working fine.

Mid 2009 Crashing but fine in Safe Mode
Hello friendly support community,
Having a little issue again with my mid 2009 Macbook Pro 2.53GHz intel core 2 duo system. Upgraded the system from 4gb to 8 gb about a month ago and everything has seemingly been running fine until today.
- Shut down my system last night.
- Went to power on this evening about an hr ago and I was stuck on the white Apple logo loading screen.-
- Reset PRAM (reset 3 times in a row) and SMC ---- still stuck
- Boot into safe mode--- worked then immediately restarted (via instructions from http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570)
- Boot normaly (no longer stuck on white loading screen!)----- then immediate CRASH!!!
- Back in safe mode now (which is working fine) to submit this Help Discussion
