Combine my work iTunes library with my Home iTunes library

I've got my iTunes library at home & my one at work - both legal collections and both totally different. Is there a way to combine them so I have one library with all my music?
I can't email stuff home as I've got 100's on each. I can't connect via firewire as they are in separate locations. I'd rather not use an iPod hack program if I can get away with it.
Is there an approved way to do this?

One solution might be to get a portable HD (160GB models are pretty cheap), and use that to hold your combined Music folder on, and just carry it around with you. To achieve this, check this article out :

    Sorry, but that's not possible.

  • How can I share the work iTunes with my home iTunes so I can work from home? Need to be able to share playlists and files for editing tracks.

I've just started working for a media company that provides the music for sporting events. They use iTunes to create playlists that I have to load into an IR machine with hot keys. I also have to edit tracks to create new stings and intros. As there is a 2.5 hour commute, I want to access the work iTunes library from my home MBP so I can work from home. When I'm at work I can share the work iTunes library, but when I'm back home I can't use it. Any ideas of how I could effectively Home Share over the internet with two seperate iTunes accounts?
The work iMac is running 10.7.5 and my MBP is 10.8.4

In that case, does anybody know of a program or workaround that will make this so?

  • How do I synch my old music library with my recent itunes upgrade?

I have an error message when I try to open my itunes library that says my itunes folder cannot be read because it was replaced by a new version of itunes which was downloaded via my iphone.

    Hi ..
You should backup your iTunes library prior to syncing the iPod >  iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive
Then sync your iPod with the iMac >  iTunes: Syncing media content to iPod

  • Can I merge my Australian iTunes Account with my UK iTunes Account?

I'm an Australian living in London and have an iTunes account in both countries.
Is it possible to merge these accounts?
What if both accounts could link to my @me.com account - or is .me not going to be around forever?
Please Apple.. solve this problem with one universal email or account. For such a brilliantly simple company, this is a problem that needs a solution!

    Thanks for the feedback Ed.
It was 18 months ago now that I moved over so inevitably I've setup a UK iTunes.
With iCloud I now have 3 accounts - UK, Australia and @me.com!
Surely there is a way to combine all three and have one universal password?

  • ITunes opens with "Welcome to iTunes"

I've had my iPhone since August and all of a sudden last week iTunes started opening with "Welcome to iTunes" and a blank slate when I connect my iPhone. I figured out that I can manually start iTunes and sync my iphone with my correct files, but I am wondering how to fix the problem to get it working properly when I connect my phone.... anyone else have this problem or any ideas how to fix it?

Help, anyone else have this problem???

  • HT4796 how can i merge my pc itunes account with my macbook itunes

I wanna use the migration assisstant but i want it to be on my main mac profile, the migration thing says it will create a  new user account (totally effin lame). My question is whats the quickest and easiest way to get my itunes over. I have 45 gb of music, 8 gb of photos, 2 gb of videos and about 6 gb of apps. I have a lot of stuff so i know it will take a while. Im considering using my dads passport harddrive and making a copy then copying it over to the macbook. However I have heard formatting is an issue when going form pc to mac. Blahhh I just want all my data on my mac, on my profile. Thanks a lot if you could help me with this

  • HT1727 Can I sync old iTunes account with a new iTunes account?

I have a previous iTunes account with purchased music but the email address is no longer active.  Is it possible to move that music to my new iTunes account?

No, you can't move content between accounts nor merge accounts - all content will remain tied to the account that downloaded it. You should be able to update the email address on the account (you can't use an address that is in use on another account), either via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http://appleid.apple.com

  • Creating a new library with 'Shift/Start iTunes' doesn't work

I'm trying to start a new library, but pressing Shift when I start itunes doesn't work. It takes me to my existing library.
I've uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled, and completely deleted any other libraries.
Any ideas how I can start a new library any other way?

Thanks, that didn't work the first time but did work the second.
Perhaps I wasn't holding the shift key long enough - you presumably must keep holding it until the 'choose library' dialog actually pops up. I was releasing it after I'd clicked the 'start itunes' button.

  • How can I use an existing iTunes library with a new iTunes account

My daughter is going to college, and wants to untangle herself from the family iTunes account. Right now, we have three iPods with libraries on three computers, all using my iTunes account - and have had no problems.
She has signed up for a new account, but her previously purchased songs (on my account) won't play on her computer (new computer, iTunes is currently almost empty library), because it is authorized to HER iTunes account.
What is the best way to import her iTunes library that was created using my account onto her new computer? (Old library is on a PC, she now has an iBook, purchased used on eBay.) Is there any way to get these songs to play using her new account info? Can I maybe copy them somewhere without the metadata and then move them into her library? I realize that would lose ratings and other info, but would it get rid of the block? I'm not trying to do anything dishonest - these are personal iPods, personal computers, all within one family, we've paid for all music on them.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated!
(I posted this in the iTouch discussion, and then thought it wuold be better answered over here.)

Then can her computer be authorized to both accounts?
Absolutely. You can authorize any given computer to up to five iTunes Store accounts.
If purchases are made on her account, to a computer authorized to my account, can I put those songs on my iPod?
If you connect your iPod to her computer, yes. Tracks download only to the computer from which they're purchased, regardless of which iTunes Store account is used for the purchase. Or you could copy the tracks from her computer to yours and then authorize your computer to her iTunes Store account. But that's sort of defeating the original purpose, it would seem to me.
is it better to buy music through Amazon downloads and/or actually purchasing CDs to avoid the security features iTunes puts on its music?
That's certainly an option. If it's an entire album I want, I buy CDs. That way I can import them at the quality I want and to whichever of my systems I want. Amazon or one of the other download stores that offer tracks as MP3 are also an option, though for me download stores are best when you just want a couple of tracks off a given CD.

  • How to reimport library with ratings after iTunes reinstallation?

I'd been off iTunes for 6+ months and when I started it back up, I was prompted to update my iTunes with a newer version. Little did I know it would be a complete reinstall. Anyways, once the reinstall was done, none of my music is showing up in iTunes.
I searched Apple support "import library after reinstalling iTunes" and of course found noting of use. I googled and the consensus was that to import your library you just drag your music folder into the library. That was easy, but now I don't see any of the ratings that I'd given to each song. I've spend 10-20 hours rating every song on every album I have so I dang sure don't want to lose all that information. Also, all of my personal play lists are gone.
While I'm significantly annoyed that Apple didn't make this updating process a bit more painless & seemless, I'm more concerned that I might have lost all the hours I've invested in personalizing my library.
If anyone knows how I go about reimporting my ratings and playlists, I'd appreciate your assistance.
    Thank you.

What exactly are you trying to do?  You already have another library on the computer and wish to add items from another library?  This is not easily done and meeting all the requirements you have posted.  While it is possible to transfer play count I think it is one of the things that requires Applescripting knowledge.
If you are just wanting to move a library from one place to another that is possible, though still tricky because you start encountering user permissions.

  • How to re-create itunes library with the original itunes library files?

My harddrive was dying so I brought it in to get it replaced. After the replacement was done, my itunes didn't seem to work properly. All my songs are still in the same folders but the library appeared to be corrupted.  I attempted to reimport the itunes xml file but still no good.
My question: Is there a way to re-generate a brand new itunes library? All my songs are still intact in \music directory.
    Any help appreciated.

    Hi Limnos,
Thx for the link. I use the http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589 within your link and re-import the \music folder. Works like magic.

  • Trying to use music purchased from iTunes store with a home movie

I am making a home movie for family use only in either iMovie or Final Cut Pro, but neither app will allow me to use music purchased from iTunes store. Why not? It's not a licensing issue b/c there is no distribution other than my family at a big birthday party. The music imports but acts as if it has no audio once the file is imported to either program. help!
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)
    ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Put the purchased songs into a playlist. Set iTunes burning options to burn AUDIO CDs. Burn the playlist to an audio CD (you can use a CD-RW if you don't want to waste a blank). After it is done, reimport the tracks off the CD. Now use the reimported versions in iMovie or FCP and they should work fine now.
