Combine PDFs Function in Acrobat 8 Prints in Filename Order, not Package Order

'nuf said.  That's my problem. Any solutions welcome.

Bernd, you beat me to it!
I went back to Acrobat, and thought "wait a minute ... Combine !!"  I guess sometimes you just need to ask the question, get it out of your thoughts, for the answer to show up.  I was on my way here to post that I'd solved it, but you beat me to it.
Thanks for your reply anyway.  I appreciate it.

  • HELP! Combine PDF:s in acrobat 8 professional

    Hi,
we have a lot of pdf:s that needs to be combined into one pdf-file. I have found the function comine / merge files into one pdf. It seeems ok, but leaves us one very big issue...we want the combined file to change, when we change the original pdf file. How could that be accomplished? Is it at all possible?
The reason is that we would like to avoid creating a new combined file everytime we update one of its included pdf's. We would like it to update for itself.
Please help if there is anybody who has a clue.
    Regards
    Annika
PS. The original files comes from InDesign CS3, if there is a solution already at this program...

We have this same problem. Depending on your application, this may or may not be suitable for your use.
Instead of starting with a combined pdf, we created collections. (Go to File, then Organizer. From here you either "open organizer" to get a current collection, which will be listed in the box to the left -towards the bottom,.. or "create a new collection".
collections are just links to original files. so everytime your original is updated, so is your collection.
Once you open the collection, select all the documents and either print them or create a combined pdf.
Play around with this and see if it works for you.

  • Trouble Combining PDF's, launching Acrobat and Adobe Application Manager 10x Pro

Hi I’ve been having some troubles with the following problems, originally the programs worked fine, yet now they don’t. Help would be very much appreciated
    - cannot combine files with acrobat 10 x pro it says "Adobe PDF creation cannot continue because Acrobat is not activated" yet I have activated it. This is when I print combining sheets and when I combine PDF's manually.
    - cannot open Acrobat 10 x pro, it does not launch
    - cannot open Adobe Application Manager it comes up with an error message "we have encountered some problems..." it then tries to update but fails.
    thanks

    finaly figured out how
I went into google to find a link to the application update manager which sent me back to the adobe website after downloading a fresh version
I discovered in my downloads I still had a setup file for creative suite
    - set up click adobe acrobat and it should add the missing files and works like a gem now

  • Acrobat 7 combine pdf function

Using the full version of Adobe 7, when I selected multiple pdfs in windows explorer and right clicked, a "combine in adobe acrobat" function would appear in the context menu.  I just tried out the trial version of Adobe 9 and have now uninstalled it, but this functionality has disappeared.  Is there a way to restore this option in the right click context menu?

Your right click menu, technically called the "context menu" is editable in the registry.
Go to the start menu and type in the search bar "regedit". Open regedit. This is the registry editor. Be careful not to mess anything up here.
    Navigate to :
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
Right click on ContextMenuHandlers and select "New"........."Key"
Create a key with data string "{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802}"="Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenu"
Leave the name of the key default and leave the type REG_SZ.
You can rename the folder to Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenuHandler if you like.
Close regedit and restart your computer. Your right click option is back.
If the regedit technique does not work there is a series of dll's missing in the folder: program files......../acrobat/acrobat elements. You need repair the installation or reinstall the program.

  • Combined PDF file isn't  viewing/printing right for some?

I have this Illustrator file, which has 4 layers. Basically each layer is a page. (Yes, next time this will be done in InDesign - lol) So I have saved each layer as a PDF (pg1, pg2, pg3, etc.) - when I save them the other layers are invisible and locked. Each PDF appears as it should when I open them. In Acrobat Pro (V9.5) I combine the PDF's to make one PDF. I have no issues on my mac printing or viewing, but I have had two different problems arise from outside people - one is that when they go to print - all of the pages print on one page (layer over layer or page over page) and two - when they open it to view it they see all of it on one page (Layer over layer or page over page). Sooooooo...is there an Acrobat Pro setting I am missing or something to make this work for everyone? It boggles my brain to no end! Thanks for any insight.

I am seeing the same thing. I just viewed several of our PDF docs and had the same issue. It is really problematic. We have had two customers give us feedback this week about this and both are viewing with Firefox. We need a Firefix. ASAP

  • Cannot Create PDF Using "Create PDF" Function in Acrobat 8

I can create by using "save as" in my Office programs, but only from the Windows Explorer box, not from the menu.  However, I can no longer "create pdf" nor "combine files" inside Acrobat 8.  I get reinstall message.  It starts and hangs up.  I tried reinstalling from CD.   I use this feature a lot to create files and it just quit.  Nothing new has been installed that might interfere. I've made sure that the distiller is not inactive.  Thoughts?

Unfortunately, alot of us had to upgrade to Office 2010 ...its very unfortunate that adobe doesn't warn us up front about the imcompatibiity problem before they took our money.  Granted they can't give us warnings about every compatibility issue..but considering that MS. Office PDF comversions is a big marketing interest for adobe, I for one would have liked to have known that before I paid for adobe for 9, for I would have waited for 10

Until Adobe releases Acrobat 10 do not upgrade to MS Office 2010!!!
It appears that with the release of Acrobat 10, much of Adobe's support to Acrobat versions 7, 8 and 9 will be reduced to the very minimum updates.
Many CAD programs require upgrades to newer versions of Acrobat. But Acrobat does not support all CAD programs.

As in question title, acrobat version is 10.0.1.434

I am using Firefox 8.0 and am having the same problem. I think this problem has existed since very early versions of FF. Very annoying. Chrome seems to do fine with the same situation.

  • Saving combined PDFs into one new document?

I know how to combine PDFs into one document using Preview, but I am not finding any way to save the resulting new document.  There is no "save as" any longer in Preview, and when I choose "save", it only saves the first document, not the whole collection of documents.
There must be a way to do this!  There used to be, and it was easy as pie.
    Can someone help, please?
    Mark Carlson

Thank you.  I was able to conjure up "save as"--though why should you have to hold down the option key? Why isn't "save as" just there? Well, it doesn't really matter, since "save as" still only saves one of the documents in the combined bunch.
But your second method of accessing it through Print worked just fine.
    Thanks so much!

  • Combine PDF Pages automator step strips annotations

Oh, I was so excited when I noticed the Combine PDF Pages command in Automator.
Then I was less excited when I discovered that if any of the pages has annotations created in Acrobat Pro, those annotations are removed from the newly combined PDF.
Since Preview, for some strange reason, is not AppleScript-able, Automator is the only way I see to do this.
Acrobat is somewhat scriptable to a degree but does not have a combine PDFs command in the dictionary.
So, has anyone figured out a way to automate the merging of PDFs via a script, workflow, app, etc -- while RETAINING the annotations? I am triggering this from FileMaker as part of a work process we're developing, so manually merging the PDFs kind of defeats the purpose.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Found It!
Ok, so it seems "insert pages" is in the Acrobat dictionary; I was looking for an equivelant of "Combine Files into Single PDF".  Anyway, here's draft one of the script. I'll probably make it less clunky next week, but this is basically how it works:
    set nFile to ""
    set pCount to 0
    set pdfList to {}
    set pdfNameList to {}
    set sourcePath to "SL:Users:joeuser:Desktop:fix ccd:Source:"
    set targetPath to "SL:Users:joeuser:Desktop:fix ccd:Target:"
    set coverFileName to "cover.pdf"
    tell application "Finder"
move file (sourcePath & coverFileName) to folder targetPath
set my pdfList to every file in folder sourcePath
              repeat with f in pdfList
set pdfNameList to pdfNameList & (name of f)
              end repeat
    end tell
    tell application "Adobe Acrobat Pro"
    --activate
open (my targetPath & my coverFileName) with invisible
              set targetDoc to last document
set my pCount to (number of pages) of targetDoc
              get my pdfNameList
repeat with f in my pdfNameList
set c to number of documents
open (sourcePath & f) with invisible
repeat until c < (number of documents)
                        end repeat
                        set newDoc to last document
set nPages to (number of pages) of newDoc
insert pages targetDoc after my pCount from newDoc starting with 1 number of pages nPages
set my pCount to (my pCount) + nPages
      close newDoc
              end repeat
    save targetDoc
    close targetDoc
    end tell
    tell application "Finder"
set f to file (my targetPath & my coverFileName)
set name of f to "New Merges PDF.pdf"
    end tell

  • Combine PDF files into one document?

Hi, does anyone know if there is a way to take several PDF documents that are the same size and orientation and combine them into one file?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
there's sadly no such function in Mac OS, but you can do it for free with Automator. There's a "Combine PDFs" function. I saved it as an application. If you can't figure it out, I can upload you the app, but Automator is really straightforward.

  • Support of pdf 1.2 (Acrobat 3)

Does the .pdf-Generator support pdf 1.2 (Acrobat 3)?
I do have the entry in the conversion settings - but the files generated are always pdf 1.4 (Acrobat 5) - and the documentation does not mention pdf 1.2.
Is pdf 1.2 (Acrobat 3) supported or not ?
    Thanks
    Rainer

Make sure you(as non-root user) have permission to write into required oraInventory directory. You may do this by temporarily login as root and run:
    e.g.
    #chmod -R 777 /opt/oracle/oraInventory
    #exit

  • Possibility to execute Acrobat Pro's "Combine files into PDF" function from within SAP?

    Good day.
Presently, a company uses Acrobat Pro to manually combine files such as *.pdf, *.jpg, *.doc, which have been downloaded from SAP's Document Management System, into one pdf file. I would like to know if it is possible to automatically execute Acrobat Pro's "Combine files into PDF" function from within SAP (ECC 6.0) application system. I'm wondering if this could be achieved from a program via OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) or RFC (remote function call).
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and inputs.

Yes, you can combine PDF files via IAC/COM methods.

  • Copying text from PDF created using print to PDF function in OS X

I use a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
For some reason when I use the Print to PDF function to export a PDF of a Word document, then open it with Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro 9 and try to select text and copy it then paste it into a word processor (include Word 2008) the resulting text is gibberish. It looks like some sort of encoding issue, but I can't understand that, since it's all happening on the same Mac! I have also tried to do this with Preview as the PDF reader but I still get gibberish.
The issue first started occuring with Snow Leopard, and all software is patched, but no dice.
I've attempted to work around this by using all of the different PDF options under the print dialog, and by saving the doc as a PDF, but I still get the same thing.
I've also tried copying and pasting the text int Pages, then saving it as PDF and trying to ready it .. again, no luck.  I was able to output the file directly from Pages to Preview and save it from there, but it really doesn't seem like this should be necessary, given that the functionality is build into the OS.
Anybody else have experience with this? I have just one user that needs to copy and paste text from the doc, so it's a real pain to have to maintain separate PDF and Word versions.
    Thanks!
    D

    Rishi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After reading your post, I tried to duplicate this problem. I opened a PDF, selected a sentence, then copied it to the clipboard. I then opened Pages, selected the blank template, then pasted in the text. It pasted perfectly.
Does this problem happen with all text in a PDF? With different PDFs?
