Combine photos?

I'm pretty sure aperture can't do this, so looking for suggestions from users regarding alternate workflows. I have a bunch of scanned 3:1 panoramic negatives that i want to print at 4x12. Costco offers 8x12s for very cheap so i want to take two of them and create one 8x12 jpeg, order prints and cut the print myself.
Can aperture do this? Pretty sure it can't, so i'm looking for a way to do this easily, automated would be even better as i have lots and plan on shooting this format regularly. I don't have photoshop and dont want to spend $500 just for this one function. If anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear them.
thanks, tim

I don't have time to test this, but if I did I'd try to print to PDF with paper set to 8x12 (perhaps borderless), landscape, 2 rows 1 column, and minimize all margins and borders.
If you are going to cut individual prints from a larger sheet with more than one on it, I recommend spacing the images apart with a margins. Trying to cut two photo edges with one cut is, ime, a recipe for frustration.
You might be able, starting with something like that, to come up with a working work-around. You'll have to figure out how to get acceptable quality. You'll have to work around the JPG/PDF issue -- best to take PDF out if you can.
Almost any layout program can take two images and position them on a page. Pages certainly can do this. Again, image quality and output file format are the two issues you'll have to deal with.
Sorry for the flimsy answer, but I thought you might be interested in giving it a try. A graphics program is far and away the better solution. Good Luck.

How do I combine photos in Photoshop CS6?

There are a few ways, some are destructive (changes the pixels themselves) and others are nondestructive (non of the pixels get changed)
Have an image on each layer, then use the Gaussian blur filter on each image (since this would blur the entire image you can use a selection tool to tell what part of the image that should get blurred)
The better way is to apply a mask to each layer, then make the selection and use the Gaussian blur filter on the mask it self. This not only blurs the edge (assuming that is what is selected) but because it is a mask, anything below that layer becomes visible in that area. Since the blur filter was applied to the mask and not the image itself, this means that you can change your mind any time in future, from altering the blur to removing the mask all together. The key here is to make sure you select the mask thumbnail on that layer to edit the mask, then select the image thumbnail to edit the image.
Keep in mind if you do use the mask option, the color from lower layers will show through, so no lower layer would be white showing through. Just add a lower layer and fill it with a color of your choice, including the color of the image if you want it as neutral as possible.

  • Possible to combine photo libraries?

Presumably as a result of setting up my iMac and using it before running Migration Asst. to transfer files from an old G4, I ended up with two photo libraries. I intend to erase my hard drive for other reasons. I believe I have all data folders copied onto an external hard drive and the photo libraries are separately copied. I also have Time Machine back-ups on a separate EHD but don't want to use that since I intend to start clean.
Is it possible to combine the photo libraries by carrying them in from the EHD to the "clean" hard drive? If so, what steps should be followed?
My apologies if this has been addressed before and I just didn't find the answer. A link to the answer would be welcome if it has been addressed.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You can merge iPhoto Libraries using the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager. It's the only way to do this.

  • Combining photos

I am new to Elements 8 and a bit lost.  I find thatone of  the simplest things I did using Adobe Photodeluxe don't work here.
In the past to combine several open photos onto one page I  would pick any one of the photos and enlarge it's canvas size
enough to accept all of my photos, Then I would drag that image to wherever I wanted it to be on the resized canvas. And then I
would drag the remaining photos onto the canvas, save the results and the job was done.
With Elements I cannot seem to reposition my original image on the canvas in the first place  nor can I drag other images onto that
    canvas.
The problem? seems to be that when I open any photo in Elements, The Crop tool is already on and I cannot seem
to turn it off except by selecting another tool which I do not need at the time. The result is when I click on an image to
drag it, the crop tool activates instead.
How do I get around this?

    Thanks Bob:
I have downloaded the pdf instructions but I can still see a long learning curve coming.

  • How do I combine photos in a single group?

When I import photos form my iPhone their listed as "untitled event" day by day.  I want to group them into a single group and name that group.  How do I do that?

In the iPhoto preferences you can set the rules for creating events on import
once you have imported photos you can drag an event onto another one to merge tem - or select several and use the merge events command

  • Sorting combined photos from two cameras by capture time (chronologicaly)

I have a group of photos shot by two cameras (Nikon D2x + Nikon D200) and after import when I sort by capture time the photos are in about 75% the correct chronological order but at least 25% are out of order (when checking the metadata). This is a huge issue because I shoot weddings with multiple photographers but display/print all photos in chronological order. Why does the sort by capture time not work correctly?

It works correctly for me, but others have had similar trouble.
Do a search of the forum. Someone found that setting the time of one camera forward by 13 hours and then back fixed the problem for them.
It's unclear if the trouble is caused by daylight savings time, or a problem with the metadata or what. There are a few known bugs with the time system in LR. I have a 20D and 5D, and they always sort correctly when I remember to sync the in-camera clocks!

  • Combining Photo libraries using new app

    Hello,
Historically and for performance/space reasons I've kept separate Aperture libraries. Now with a new Mac and Photos, I'd like to consolidate several libraries, or copy files from one to another. Is this possible? Can two instances of Photos be opened and albums be moved one to the other?
Maybe it's possible to Show Package Contents or some such witchcraft to manipulate the libraries? Especially if it's early days for this application.
    Thanks,
    Krillboy

    No.
The trick would be to merge the Aperture Libraries before migrating.

  • How can you automate to combine multiple photos in photoshop

i have thousand photos prefer to combine them in a group of 3 photos into one combined photo in an automated process...
3 photos should line up accordingly one after one ... crop the combined photo to the max size possible ... set the image size of combined photo to 2000 by 1300 pixels ... save the combined photo...
start with the next 3 photos in the folder...
is this possible to automate with photoshop cc?...
    thanks for help...
    cheers,

The contact sheet script is what it is.  If you need more than what it provides, I suggest you create your own custom scripts and actions.

  • Combining original and edited versions of photos?

Is there some way to "combine" photos in iPhoto such that edits I've made outside of iPhoto register as modified versions of the original images? (I only started using iPhoto last year, but I have original and edited versions of photos from before then. The same happens if I take a photo on my iPhone and edit it via an app before importing it to iPhoto.)
    Thanks!

Well, I have gotten one thing to work: "edit" the original photo, save it without changes, open that file (under the Modified/ folder in my iPhoto Library), copy the modified file into that location, delete the "modified" photo and rename the actual modified file to that name, and then iPhoto sees it.
    Lot of work though…
    *And VERY dangerous*
NEVER make any changes to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder - doing so carries a very high risk of corrupting your library and causing loss of data and possibly photos
The only safe way is to export the edited photo(s) and then import back to iPhoto and delete the old unedited photos using iPhoto - trying to do it with the finder as you are may work if you never make a mistake but it is VERY dangerous and should not be done

  • Combine 2 photos as layers

    Hello
I know how to combine photos as layers.
However, I would like to delete some ares from one of the layers, and merge it with the first layer to one photo.
I used the brush tool, both black and white color, but all I get is black/white spots on each layer I use.
Can't I merge them to one photo, deleting the areas I would like to?
    Thanks a lot

    Hello there-
It seems like you want to make a photo Composite. To start off there is a great PS Touch for Tablet tutorial here.
    1. Below you can see I have two photos I would like to merge into "one". I selected an eraser tool to erase portion of the image I have selected. I will only need the woman's head, so erasing it is a great way to eliminate a portion of the painting.
    2. Below you can see how I have just the woman's head remaining from the top layer. The painting below reveals the woman's hat, which I will next want to remove.
    3. I am going to transform the size of the woman's head, by tapping the outlined tool.
    4. Below I have changed the size of the woman's head. Tap the checkmark when you are done.
    5. I am not going to eliminate the bottom layers woman's hat. By tapping the clone tool, I can clone the surrounding area to eliminate the hat.
    6. Below you can see the woman's hat is now removed.
    7. Now I am going to merge the layers. Tap the top layer, then the layer icon and tap the "merge" icon.
    8. Select Merge Down > Done.
    9. You now have created a composite.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • How do I combine events on my iPad photos?

I would like to combine photos from the same event that were imported from different cameras. Can anyone tell me how that is done?

I hope this doesn't sound unhelpful, but did you start with the + sign in the upper right corner?
If so, could you explain more about what you are doing and what is not working?

  • How to best manage a large photo library

When our family became Mac users in 2008, it was suggested by apple support to create separate iPhoto libaries for each year due to the size of our photo library. So we did this and also purchased the iPhoto Library Manager application to keep everything straight. Now that some time has passed and advancements have been made in the Mac applications (I saw the new Photos came out 4.10.15), I was wondering if this still was necessary. We are now approaching a combined photo library of 350g. Suggestions???

My 2 cents: it was never necessary. And iPhoto 11 library is good for 1,000,000 items. I'm not sure what suggestions you are looking for.

  • Album photo order in Apple TV 2 mobile me galleries = Failure

While the order of my photos in my iPhoto albums is preserved on Apple TV 2 via 'Computers' it is clearly using image file names to sort if you go in via 'Internet>Mobile Me'. This is especially annoying since you can view your albums in order not only on the web but also on the iPhone's 'Gallery' app. Since both the iPhone and the Apple TV 2 use iOS4, one would think that Apple TV 2 would be able to do a simple but very important thing like preserve photo order within albums. One of the major reasons for getting one of these for my dad was so he could easily view baby photos on his tv. It's annoying to watch my baby go from 3 months old to birth to 1 month old in my albums! When friends try to show vacation photos from their albums... well forget it.
It's hard to tell a photo story when all of your photos are completely out of order; which is very much the case if you happen to be combining photos from more than one camera since different cameras will be naming the files with different prefixes.
My only solution so far is to import all photos that will be used in an album into iPhoto, batch change their titles to the 'time and date' they were taken, then export those photos using 'titles as filename' option, then deleting all the photos iPhoto, then reimporting them. That way when they are put onto Mobile Me/Apple TV 2 they will be at least in chronological order. What a complete pain in the ---.
Any other solutions to this problem?

I suspect that you will have to re-edit the metadata to accomplish your goal. As images are copied and moved this is often modified (place/geotag, faces, dates).......... Just a though. You can download the photos and both check it and if necessary change it in iPhoto
