Combine User/Device CAL with Per Processor CAL?

Hello,
Is it legit by Microsoft to combine Licenses? Could I purchase 40 SQL user CAL's and then 1 Per Processor CAL if I had 2 physical CPU's? Or would they expect you to purchase 2 CPU CAL's? Small company - Less
than 100 users.
Thanks,
SM

Hello,
Since the question is a license issue, you can call 1-800-426-9400, Monday through Friday, 6:00 A.M.
to 6:00 P.M. (Pacific Time) to speak directly to a Microsoft licensing specialist. You can also visit the following site for more information and support on licensing issues:

  • User Device Affinity PXE Setting

In the settings for PXE on a DP, there is an option for user device affinity with three possible choices.  Do not use UDA, use UDA with manual approval or use UDA with automatic approval.  What exactly do these settings do?  The TechNet info
    is a bit vague.
Select Do not use user device affinity to not associated users with the destination computer.
Select Allow user device affinity with manual approval to wait for approval from an administrative user before users are associated with the destination computer.
Select Allow user device affinity with automatic approval to automatically associate users with the destination computer without waiting for approval.
If I select do not use user device affinity, does that mean that the machine will not participate in UDA regardless of client settings?

Perhaps this blog post will share some light on what the settings are used for:

  • User device affinity question

    hi there,
I have a question around user device affinity with regards to users that have multiple devices due the usage of those machines.
in most of our cases, users have 1 machine so any targeting of software with the requirement of user being primary user works fine, but we have a number of cases, mainly IT guys and engineers, who run up multiple machines constantly and therefore have
many "primary" devices, although 1 will probably be their main computer.  If I targeted those users with an uninstall program for, let say Visio, and lets say visio was indeed installed on all of a particular users computers, then, as all those
computers are regarded as primary device for that user, all visio installs will be removed from all computers.  there is no way to differentiate that I only want visio uninstalled from a users "main" primary device.  ie. it is a case
of all or nothing.  is that correct, and if so, would it then be a better bet in these cases to uninstall using a computer based method rather then user based, or an SCCM technician would need to make sure that device affinity was cleaned up prior to
    any uninstall deployment?
I can see how device affinity works nicely where users work as they are supposed to, ie with 1 device. but it is the groups that don't fit into this pattern that I'm trying to get my head around how to manage when deploying apps to users rather than the
old method of packages to computers.
also, as an aside, I assume that the uninstall program set up in a deployment type, runs the requirement tests before running in the same way that if you where running the install program it tests?
    thanks
    douglas

To specify a primary device, you would need to set the User Device Affinity threshold.  By default, it is 2880 minutes over 30 days.  Then, when you create your Deployment Type, you would use the Requirements tab to set Primary Device = True.
This way, it will only run on the primary device that was determined by that setting.
And yes, the Detection Method runs for uninstalls the same way as it does installs.

  • Change CAL to per user from per unit

    Hello!
I bought per user CALS (has been verified) but I have been using per unit because the per user cal didn't update the license for the users. I don't understand why it works perfectly with per unit (group policy edited) but not per user? The system has been
online for one and half year now so it wasnt until know I noticed the problem because to many computers had been assigned a license and even when I revoke one of them I wont be able to connect another computer until december 10 so thats a big problem. I did
change to per user but it wont connect with the computer due to many licenses in use. Do I need to restart the server when I change to per user in group policy? And why is the cals working with per unit fine when I bought per user cal?
    Regards

    Hi,
     >>don't understand why it works perfectly with per unit (group policy edited) but not per user?
Based on the description, I assume we are using group policy to manage Remote Desktop license mode. Here, please make sure that we have a sufficient number of RDS Per User CALs installed on the license server to provide an RDS Per
User CAL for each user that needs to connect to the RD Session Host server.
Besides, for this question is more related to RDS, in order to get professional help, it's recommended that we ask for suggestions in the following RDS forum.
    Remote Desktop Services
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/home?forum=winserverTS
In addition, regarding issuing RDS CALs, the following article can be referred to for more information.

  • With per-message S/MIME enabled, the default action when replying to an encrypted message is to send that reply unencrypted.  Causes users to accidentally send originally encrypted content, back unencrypted.

This seems counter-intuitive, are we doing something wrong or is this working as expected?
When we have per-message S/MIME enabled on an iOS 8 device.  Everything works as expected and we have the ability to select when you are sending an email whether that email should be encrypted or not, but i've noticed that, when you receive an email encrypted with your S/MIME cert, read that email on your iOS8 device with per-message S/MIME enabled, and reply to, or forward, that message, the default action is to send that reply, or forward, unencrypted UNLESS you manually re-tap the little padlock button to re-encrypt the message.
This seems broken.  I would imagine we would want the default action when replying or forwarding that encrypted message to be an encrypted reply or forward so as to keep the encryption intact.  I can't think of a time when you would actually want to send an unencrypted reply to an encrypted message, as doing so would send the originally encrypted content back, as unencrypted text therefore negating the point of ever encrypting it in the first place.
I know we can set the iOS device to by default send ALL email as encrypted, but that's overkill.  Our users probably only get 1 or 2 encrypted emails a week, but when they do get those encrypted email we would want their replies and forwards to those email to also remain encrypted, and not open up the chance of one of these users forgetting to re-check the padlock button thus accidentally sending the originally encrypted content, out as an unencrypted message.
Is this working as expected or are we doing something wrong?

    Hi,
    Thank you for your clarification.
Yes, it seems you have installed all the updates for the Outlook.
“Testing on a good computer” is a method to narrow down whether the cause is related a specific computer.
For debugging tool, I think we can take a look at:
    1. RPCTrace log
    2. Process Monitor
For RPCTrace log, it’s not that easy to capture. You must firstly replace some Outlook dll files before you can capture the log. Even more, the dll files can vary if the Outlook
SP versions are different. So, It’s recommend to contact a Microsoft Support to capture and analyze the trace log.
    Thanks,

  • User Device Affintiy is set up in SCCM, but it is only dribbling into SCSM at about 150 machines per night???

    Hi all,
Our Environment = System Centre Suite 2012 SP1, on the most recent CU release as appropriate
we have a PR1 site which is our desktop estate and in this one, Config Manager PR1 client settingshas been configured for user device affinity has been set to 900 mins over 7 days  (we reduced this from the default in the hope it would speed things
    up)
UDA was not configured initially in PR1 but it has been configured for almost 2 months and in an estate of just over 7000 machines in Service Manager there are only just over 3000 PC's with Primary Users.  This number appears to increase by about
150 each night as the connector runs.
Configuration Manager on the other hand has primary user info for all machines.
Has anyone out there come across this and has a solution or can suggest a solution to this issue.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Ed
    Ed

Have you checked the event log to see if there are any errors during the connector processing? The events will be logged in Application and Services Logs\Operations Manager. Look for any error messages during the time the connector was syncing. Most events
dealing with the ConfigMgr connector have a source of "Data Connectors" or "Lfx Service", but I would suggest looking through all of them from that time period. Let us know if you find anything there.

  • Subscription cannot be used with multi-user device...

I just received an email message stating "Subscription cannot be used with multi-user devices" and "Here's a quick reminder that Skype's subscriptions are for individual use only and cannot be used with multi-user devices such as PBXs"
I'm not sure why i received it, I am the only user and I only call out via my Iphone wifi and, occasionally, my PC.
Could anyone please explain this to me?
    Thanks - Steve

    Hi Steve,
Basically as long as you don't make subscription calls from more than one device at the same time there shouldn't be an issue.
I'll look into this messaging as it seems to be bit misleading.
Could you check your email, I sent you an email asking bit more information around this notification.

  • Having issues with profile manager on 10.9 loosing users/device assignments.

I'm having issues with profile manager on 10.9 loosing users/device assignments. Luckly I only have arround 70 devices added so far. The first time it happened I thought it was just a freak thing, but it has just happened again. What I find weird is nothing on the server was changed, no devices added. So when this happens my users phones lose access to email, because I'm using variables, which rely on the user being assigned to the device. Anyone know how to fix this, and if not. Does anyone know how to backup and restore just profile manager in 10.9. Thanks.

I enabled all users in my AD "Domain Users" group access to "Profile Manager". I had also initially enabled "Profile Manager" access for a few individual users. Those users did not loss the device assignments. I'm not absolutely sure why/if allowing access for a group is causing this issue. Enabling access for each person would be very time consuming.... Maybe adding access to the individual users is importing that user into OD?

  • Other users/devices using my bt wifi with fon?

    Hi
Im wondering how many users/devices can log into BT wifi with fon from my account?
    Thanks

If you want to give someone access on a compatible device, using the BT WiFi app and entering the password yourself privately should keep it secret.

  • Share iCal cals with someone who doesnt have mobileme

I want to to share my cals with her and she wants to share hers with me, both macs but only one mobileme acct. Can we do this? Yes? then how do we keep it private and not open on the web? thanks!

This solution will work. Just make sure you turn OFF all other synching (contacts, bookmarks, preferences, keychains, etc.) Otherwise you and your friend will have merged contacts, keychains, etc. She will also have access to your MobileMe email as well.
Another way to do this is through Google. Set up Google Calendars (two gmail accounts). Then give access to each other via Google Calendar Settings.
Import your mobileme calendars into Google through the Google interface.
Once complete, download Calaboration from Google Code. http://code.google.com/p/calaboration/
Use Calaboration to set up your Google Calendars in iCal.
You will then be able to view each others calendars without sharing them with the world.
My wife and I have MobileMe accounts but have migrated to Google Calendar for the added security.

  • Is the maximum number of users for Airport Extreme per device, i.e. 2 AEBS = 100 users, one AEBS extending the other on the same wireless network?

Is the maximum number of users for Airport Extreme per device, i.e. 2 AEBS = 100 users, one AEBS extending the other on the same wireless network?

50 users per device, assuming that the "main" router is setup to deliver an adequate number of network IP addresses for all devices.
2 AEBS = 100 users, but that is really more of a theoretical max.
If you really need 100 connections, it would be much better to use 3 AEBS to spread things out.

  • Can this phone sync perfectly with Entourage notes, Cal, tasks & contacts

Anyone know if you can perfectly sync perfectly with Entourage notes, Cal, tasks & contacts so I can bin my Blackberry?
I use my notes extensively to write long memos whist I am out and about and I need it to sync them perfectly with Entourage.
I think there is some kind of work around with ical etc or something but I have the feeling that notes won't work as there isn't an app for ths capable of handling notes in this way from Entourage.
If anyone can prove me wrong, I'd like to know.
pleeeeeeease.... as I really would like an iphone (had to send my original one back a couple of years ago due to this incompatibility)

Try Missing Sync for iPhone for the notes. If you want to sync the calendar and addresses then try PocketMac
