Combine video with .srt file

I've downloaded this file from Google Video, got its .srt file too, and need to burn a disk with the two in one. You know, not just burn the .avi/.mpg and the .srt, then ask friends to use VLC or something similar to watch. I need to find a way to 'burn' the .srt subtitles onto the video itself, then make a DVD of the finished product.
I remember someone had suggested once that I use Handbrake to do that, so I got it, but couldn't for the life of me figure out how to do that. Anybody knows? Or does anyone know of another utility, even iMovie HD 6 itself (although I very much doubt it...) that could do the trick?
Many thanks, people.

I'm not familiar with .srt files, they are mainly .txt files with a very elaborated structure... but "TitleLab" claims to convert .srt files into something, you can use in combo with QTpro... I think, there's a How-To in the download included...
you get it TitleLab download here for free..

  • Video Captions: .srt file?

Slide video can have captions, but it looks like they must be manually added row by row.
Does anyone know if video captions can be accessed through an .srt file? That's a standard format for subtitles.
    Thanks,
    Christine

To my knowledge there is no compatibility with .srt files in Captivate.  It allows Closed Captioning subtitles to be added to a slide by inserting Slide Notes, selecting Closed Captioning, and then timing the lines of text in the CC to coincide with the words in the voiceover.  I've always found this to work quite well.

I'm having problems uploading video taken with my iPhone 4 to Photobucket.  FB will not accept the file extension which is ex. IMG_423.  They will play on my computer and will upload to Facebook.  Why is the phone taking video with this file instead of something like .mov or mp4.  How can I change the extension after the fact and avoid it in the future?

You said, "the 4 also has signal and wifi whereas the 5 has only wifi". By "signal", I'm assuing that you mean cellular signal. If so, that means your iPhone 4 is still active on your cellular number and your iPhone 5 is not. Contact your carrier to sort out which phone is active on your account.

  • Combine avi with Avchd files in Premiere elements 10

I am trying to make a DVD using clips that were taken with my old camcorder which was DV, and using clips from my new camcorder which is AVCHD.  Premiere elements 10 lets me do this, but it appears that my HD files are not the same quality as what I see just looking at the clip with the camera directly hooked to the TV.  A dialouge box comes up and states when I bring the DV clips into the project that it will reduce the quality to standard definition.   Is there  a way to combine these types of files in the same project and keep the HD quality of the new clips?

You are already spoilt by seeing your HD stuff!
I think you will find that the normal old standard DVD player never showed the full capability that stadard def was capable of. You had to get a $1000 player to see it as it really is. So it was never quite as good as component video straight from the camera or seeing it captured on your computer.
Good Blue Ray players play old DVD much better because they are getting everything off the disk that it is capable of.
BlueRay will overtake DVD in the reasonable near future like DVD overtook VCRs so you should make a Blue Ray disk for the future. If other viewers still need DVD you can make a DVD from the HD project.
    To make a Blue Ray--
Buy and install a Blue Ray burner in your computer (less than $100)
Setup as a FullHD project 1920x1080 25frames interlaced (or 30 for USA)
Import both clips where you want them. AVI and AVCHD mix well
Sharpening the avi clips a little helps make up for the loss in resolution
Share to a Blue REay disk (make sure the blank disk is fast enough for the burner because Adobe burns only at full speed. If using slower disks then share as a file and use another program to burn the disk (see other posts on this)
To make a DVD (before you buy the BD burner), make anopther copy of your projrct and add about 20% sharpening and share the above project to DVD. It looks a bit poor on your TV but will look pretty well as good as an original DVD made form the AVI clips when viewed on your TV
To make a DVD only, first convert the AVCHD to AVI and sharpen them then make a normal DVD project as everything will now be AVI. The origimnal AVI clips will be better but the HD will obviously be only one quarter of the resolution.
I recently made such a DVD from my Sony $1000 FullHD camera and the DVD copy when played on my Pioneer Blue Ray player on the TV was just as good as old DVDs made with my previous Sony $1800 Widescreen SD camera. The Blue Ray copy of course was brilliant!
The amout of sharpening involves personal preference and depends on how sharp the original material is.
People wilth good eyesight might see it as oversharpening whereas it can look great to those less foertunate or old people not wearing their glasses!
While they may have a reasonable resolution for file detail, some HD cameras dont have a good "depth of resolution" at mid frequencies that represent the upper limit of fine detail for SD cameras. When downsized to SD, the picture from the HD camera can actually be fuzzier than an old SD camera that was tweaked up to look sharp on an old TV.
So you have to add this extra tweaking to comnpensate (a bit like turing up the audio treble control to hear the snare drums on a portable radio)
If destined for viewing on a TV set, the limit of sharpening is where the edges of objects start to crinkle excessively or the video noise becomes excessive. This should be evaluated only on the TV where it will finally be shown and at the TV viewing distance (not on a computer and not too close up)
To avoid wasting blank disks you can make a test disk of the same few scenes with different amounts of sharpening. Try a long shot, mid shot and closeup as the subjecvt material also influences the eye's perception of sharpness.

  • Avi with srt file played on quicktime 10.1

    hello guys! i recently purchased mac os X lion and have a problem as far as avi.files are concerned. Here is the specific issue;
Whenever i try to play an avi.file (don't know the specific codec, not familiar with this stuff) companied with a srt file (ex season1.avi, season1.srt) there appears a message saying: you need quicktime player 7 if you want to play this file or something like this. I DON'T want to play these files with quicktime 7 because of it's bad video quality. Is there any way of playing these files on quicktime 10.1? (tried everything: perian, flip4mac, divx but still...)
    Any help would be appreciated.
    thank you in advance.

Thats ok peeps resolved the issue by installing Perian all working again now

  • Captivate 4 : How to stream a video with smil file ?

I am trying to stream a video hosted on Highwinds CDN. Highwinds provides a web link for every uploaded flv file and does not accept calling the video directly with an rtmp link.
I have tried to insert flash video using these settings :
Video Type : Flash Video Streaming Service
    URL : http://hwcdn.net/xxxxx/fms/captivate-swf-to-flv-Cam4-5fps.smil
When I press detect size, green circle keeps running and cannot get the dimensions.
Also when I publish the project (AS3 or AS2), video player on the slide does not show up, no video play.
I have been able to stream above file with smil web link using jw player, so there is no problem with the file and streaming service (highwinds).
I guess I am doing something wrong with Captivate 4 or Captivate 4 does not handle smil files ?
What may be a a solution to stream flv video using smil files ?
    Regards,
    Semih

    Hi there
As you have seen, Captivate 4 introduces a total change in functionality with respect to the way the menu works. Now, all you may do is link to different slides. So this means you have to think a bit outside the box.
One way to achieve what you are wanting is to create a slide that has as its only purpose, Opening a URL. You assign this action using a new field in the Slide properties. On Slide Enter. Then you point your TOC entry to this slide. Of course this also means you will need to consider what happens after the slide that opens the URL is visited. So you will need to exercise some creativity here.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Program to remove sound from video and join video with audio file?

With which program can I remove the sound of a video and join/sync the video file with another audio file?
    Thank you

Can I suggest using something that will allow audio capture from the external mic. to start with. Then you will have a video with audio in sync, in a format that you can re encode into whatever format you wish.
But, if you must do that. Dump the video from the handycam file, then put the mics audio file with it. ffmpeg -i video ffmpeg -i audio into whatever container and codecs that you want. You may have to adjust audio-video sync
    ffmpeg -i audio -itsoffset 0.1 -i video
Search this forum and the web. There are hundreds of ffmpeg examples. And the ffmpeg man
    https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html
ffmpeg will do just about anything, but is a little daunting. Ask specific questions and you'll get specific answers. Or find a front end for it. I never use them.

  • How to Combine Forms with .PDF files?

Hello. Several employees at my company frequently generate reports which are then edited in Acrobat 7. Life was good in the days of Acrobat 5. Then something changed between Acrobat 5 and 6, making this virtually impossible.
Then along came Acrobat 7. We rejoiced when we realized we could edit all but one table in Acrobat 7, and that one could be edited using ALCD 7. Now here's the rub:
The tables are generated individually using Crystal Reports as the compiler. Separate .PDFs are generated for each table and edited in Acrobat or ALCD when necessary. When all editing is complete, the reports are compiled in one .PDF for printing/publication.
The problem is that once we edit a table in Designer, it cannot then be merged with the other .PDFs.
Is there anything we can do to get around this? Thanks!

    Hi Katherine,
Unfortunately Designer creates an XFA PDF form, which is not inherently compatible with AcroPDF files. (Their internal structure is different.)
You could try one or both of the following things and see if they work - I haven't the opportunity to test these just now myself, but this is what I would try..
Option 1 - When saving the table in Designer, select save as type option of "Acrobat 6 compatible static PDF" option and try if this can be merged into the rest of the file.
Option 2 - After completing all changes, see if you can set up a batch process in Acrobat professional to print the Design files back to AcroPDF format, and then merge into the bigger file.
    I hope this helps,
    Sanna

  • Combining video with a alpha-matte

    Hey all,
I am working with video for the first time.
I downloaded a nice video file from iStockphoto of a butterfly floating across the screen (white background) that included the second half of the video as the alpha-matte for the butterfly so that the background can be transparent, allowing the butterfly to float over other content in Flash.
My question is, is there a way to combine the two halves of the video to get a FLV file of my butterfly with a transparent background other than using After Effects, Final Cut Pro or Premiere (none of which I have) or am I sort of screwed on this one?
Does the Media Encoder have this capability and I'm just not seeing it?
Thanks for all your help in advance,

  • Audio, no video with .avi file

We have cameras on our buses in which we can save the video to a PC as an .avi video file. (hardware only works on a PC). So now I have a .avi file that we would like to view on our Macs. No matter what program I try, the movie has sound, but no video.
    +According to MediaInfoMac,+
    +Video Codecs Used: WaveCodec+
    +Audio Codecs Used: PCM+
    +File Format: AVI+
    +Encoded with: MEncoder 1.0pre5-3.3.5+
    +Encoding Library: MPlayer+
    +another program mentioned ADV1+
    I have
    * tried both Leopard and Snow Leopard machines
    * Quicktime Pro
    * Perian (made sure the DiVx was unistalled, repaired permission, restarted etc)
    * tried the latest VLN
I don't mind purchasing a program, but I want to make sure it will work. This is an important program to us and we need it to work.
Has anyone run across this type of file?

There is no Mac codec for that video format. Use MPEG Streamclip to convert it to MPEG-4 on the PC.

  • Combining forms with pdf files

I need to find a solution to combine my new LiveCycle form with my pdf files that have filable text fields. When I try to combine them I get a message saying "Adobe XML Forms cannot be merged". My goal is to be able to link and fill all the fields from the form to the pdf files. Thank you in advance.

Basically you have to lay the whole thing out in LiveCycle.
I've done it by using the Replace Artwork (under the Edit menu) command on an existing form and selecting a pdf that has all the pages I need in it. Then you have to move the existing fields in your LC form to the proper pages.
Or, put together a pdf with all the pages, bring that into LC as a new form and then copy/paste your existing fields to where you need them.
I don't know if there's a better method hopefully someone else has some ideas. It would be a nice feature in a future version of LC to be able to add pages to an existing form.

  • Combining video with still pics

    Hello.
I want to create a movie where I've input video, then cut back and forth between the video and some still pics but utilizing the soundtrack from the video all the while having the uninterrupted soundtrack from the video play...make sense?
Any suggestions would be very grateful.
    Thanks!
    Mike

    Hello, Michael,
What you want to do is 'Paste Over at Playhead' each of your still photos onto the video track so that the photo replaces the video, but not the audio. It works great and you can easily do this by following the directions in your iMovie Help file.
Basically, you put your movie into the 'Timeline' view and then split the video at the point where you want the photo to start and thenThe audio will appear underneath the video track.
You then put the photos over the clip and the movie will play the video and audio with the photo in it instead of that video clip.
Here are the instructions from the Help:
+*Inserting video clips or photos in a passage while maintaining running audio*+
+You can paste a new video clip or photo over an existing clip while retaining the audio from the original clip. The video cuts away to a new picture, but you continue to hear the sound from the original clip.+
+To replace images in a clip while maintaining running audio:+
+Choose iMovie HD > Preferences, and then click General.+
+Select the "Extract audio when using Paste Over at Playhead" checkbox.+
+Select the video or photo that you want to insert.+
    +Choose Edit > Cut or Copy.+
    +Do one of the following:+
+To paste the entire video you selected in step 3, position the playhead at the first frame to be replaced. When you paste the clip, it will replace a portion of video equal to its length.+
+To paste over a specific segment of your movie, select the part of the video clip you want to paste over. (To learn more about selecting part of a video clip, see Related Topics below.)+
+If the video you're pasting is longer than the selected frame range, the excess video will not be pasted. If the video you're pasting is shorter than the selected frame range, the extra space will be filled with a color clip (or the still image, if you paste a still image).+
    +Choose Advanced > "Paste Over at Playhead."+
+The audio track of the original video is retained and appears in audio track 1 of the timeline viewer.+
Post back if this does not work

  • Sound but no Video with AVI Files

I'm pulling avi files recorded using a Tricaster into Premiere.  I can hear them but I can't see video.
With Windows Media Player they play fine.  I've installed the codec from the Tricaster CD, but it doesn't appear Premiere is using it.
I'm using Premiere CS5.  I did this before on a PC I don't have anymore with Premiere CS4 and had no problems.
    Help!!

  • How can I convert video with srt subtitles?

If I have an avi plus an .srt subtitles file, how can I convert this to play on the iPad?
If, on my iMac, I use Quicktime, I can save the avi as .mov with hard subs.  But when I convert this .mov to mp4, the subtitles disappear.

Why go to all the trouble of converting? Why not just download an app that can play .avi files with subtitle support?

  • I get sound but no video with imported files

I used an HD camcorder and uploaded the video onto a computer using final cut pro then moved the original .mov files to my computer to edit it at home. After importing the files into Final Cut Express 4 project, when I play the files there's a white screen and no video but I do still get the audio. If I put anything into the timeline the playback is a red screen that says "Codec could no be opened".

What format specifically is the media you captured in FCP? Most likely it's in a codec that's not available to FCE. If so you'll have to convert the media to the Apple Intermediate Codec in Final Cut Pro or Compressor.
