Combine wizard with create from scratch?

I am a novice user. I have an existing Word document that I am trying to convert to a writable PDF. In the middle of the form there is a large area where I would like to be able to cut and paste large blocks of test. When I use the wizard, it reads each line I have created as a separate text field, so that when I cut and paste, you can't see all of the text. I tried to put in a number of returns in the document, rather than using typed "lines," but that wouldn't convert. I know that I can create a multi-line text field if I don't use the wizard, but does that mean I have to create the whole form from scratch? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The wizard is part of Designer. You should ask in the LiveCycle forum that covers Designer.

Upgraded to XI, wont let me create from Scratch or Template

Good day,
I created some forms back in 2008 with LiveCycle (version 9, maybe earlier).
We just upgraded to XI Pro and Live Cycle ES4. I understand I cannot update a form I created in LC using Pro. However, I just wanted to create a simple form using Pro and when I chose to create, I got a dialog box that said how would I like to create a form?
I had 2 options
From Scratch or Template - This was grayed out
From Existing Document
I could not create from scratch. Has anyone else encountered this and possible solution?

You don't create Acrobat forms "from scratch" in the way of LiveCycle Designer forms. You make a PDF with the background (static) stuff you want, convert to PDF, then add form fields.
There is no longer integration to Designer in Acrobat; you are still free to start a new form by starting Designer if you have it.

What is the impact of destroying and re-creating from scratch the Open Directory Master?

In order to try and solve some nasty issues hat I have since upgrading to OS X Server 3,0 I am considering completely destroying my OD Master and re-creating the users and groups from scratch. Before doing so (of course I will have multiple backups) I would like to understand:
1.   When re-creating the users and groups is it sufficient to use the same ‘Unix’ groupid and userid numbers or do I also need to use the original GeneratedUIDs (is that even possible)? Are there any other aspects of the users/groups that I need to be sure to preserve?
2.   Will there be any impact to services and their data from doing this? Specifically, I have users with data in Mail, Calendar, Contacts and the WiKi. Will they still be able to access their data after the OD destroy/re-create or is that data somehow tied to more than just the username (e.g. does it use the user/group UUID or indeed any other UUID from OD)?
3.   Will there be any impact to OS X clients bound to the OD? Should I unbind them before destroying and re-bind them afterwards? Will there be any negative impact on the network users who log in via these systems (they all have ‘mobile’ accounts which do *not* sync to the server - all their data is local to the client)?

I have solevd my issue and I did not need to destroy / re-create the Open Directory. See my post here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5785838 for all the gory details. The long and the short of it was that my problems all came from a point in the past when I changed the hostname of my server after I had created the Open Directory master. Seems like that is a very bad idea! Based on what I found it seems liek any small flaw in DNS forward and reverse name resolution can also cause similar issues. I don't knwo if either of thsoe may apply to your situation?
As part of troubleshooting my issue I actually created a 'replica' of my server setup on another machine includingthe OD and associated users and groups. What I found was that many services (certainly mail, calendar and contacts) depend completely on the OD users and groups UUIDS. So if you wish to preserve user's data across an OD destroy and re-create it is vital that you carefully note for each group its Unix GID and its OD UUID and for each user their Unix uid, primary group id and UUID. When you are re-creating your OD master, as you create each group, use Directory editor to change its UUID to the original value. Similarly for Users. If you don't then users will no longer have access to any existign Mail, Contacts or Calendar data afterwards!

Creating from scratch, a css layout for my website

I am building a website from scratch and I would like to use CSS. I am conceptualizing the design, however, I am struggling with designing it and working with the div tags. I would like to have two sidebars, one on each side, and for them to be tri-colored, which means I have to create three small boxes and align them closely together, each a different color (the colors are part of the theme to my website). Of course the links on the sidebars would be white, and then change colors when hovered over or clicked on. I would like to have a header and a footer, with the header containing my logo and if and only if I can get real fancy; a scrolling message. My footer would contain additional links such as 'additional links', and 'contact us' and all the necessary copywrite info. Please let me know, if first, my conception of this layout makes sense, and if so, what tutorial you could recommend for me to view that would assist in my web site development.

I'm with Murray. I don't think you should concern yourself with HTML5 and CSS3 yet.
Stick with XHTML and CSS2. When I was learning to work with CSS positioning, it was immensely helpful to use a pre-built layout.   And I learned a great deal from looking at source code.

Working with midi from scratch

I have a simple setup: a MacBookPro and Logic Express. I want to write in midi and create tracks from scratch. I'm not an instrument performer and I'm coming from working like this with an old computer and program. I have a general understanding of midi. So far the reference doc's for logic don't give me any answers to my question and needs. When I bought the program, I was told that I can work in this manner. I understand that the program has some softsynths that I can assign to tracks to playback midi.
Does anyone know how to do this, or where else to get info about it? I'd appreciate any help, especially since this is a big change for me and it's already becoming quite frustrating.
In any case, I'll appreciate any feedback you might have on this matter.

On inst tracks (blue Icon) you can load virtual synths, a sampler (EXSP24) and GarageBand sounds, you record midi notes to trigger the virtual instruments, you can even add effects to those tracks. The GM midi tracks are for you to use with external midi modules for example. I work mainly with virtual synths, Logic ones or third party AU plug-ins.
How to load virtual Synths?
Double click in the blue icon, it open the Mixer (you also have the channel strip at your left, and can do it there) say inst 1 on (I/O) you have to square buttons one Out1-2 (yes it's the output) click and hold on the empty one above (In) (scroll) >Stereo>Logic (test them all) the first is EFM1, you can load the presets on arrow button just bellow bypass button.
Well have fun exploting those.

What changed with create from clipboard?

Hi guys. Sorry if I do not sound technical on this but something has occured which might be how mavericks handles clip board contents now or photoshop.
In illustrator I might create something that I copy then in photoshop, create new from clipboard. It used to be if I set a highish resolution the resultant vector paste would be nice and large, for arguments sake I might have a full sfreen zoomed to 50%
Now when copying and crating from clip board even on high resolutions the size of the image is always the same, from A4 barley 500 pixels wide. which when experoting for a web or what ever makes it very small.
As I say I am not technical and do understand there are differences between resolution, pixels, dpi etc etc, but never the less something changed with CC or mavericks and I prefered how it was before!
Any ideas?

Somebody mentioned a bug along those lines just recently. I don't know for sure it is the same issue, but it sounded just like that.

Could you serialize ANY ObjC object, even those created from scratch ?

I would like to create a custom object that holds a UIImage, CLLocation, two ints and to serialize that single object that wraps all these. Can this be done ? Or serialization of this "container" will fail because this object include ints which cannot be serialized.

Create a report from scratch, add Table and Datasource Problem

Hi,
I'm using the latest Crystal Reports Runtime supplied for eclipse.
I want to create a report from scratch, add a Table and then add a ArrayList of Pojos as the Datasource.
But unfortunately depending on the ConnectionInfo I supply to the Table I get different errors.
I looked through the samples and see that I have to supply properties
like
"Database DLL", "crdb_javabeans.dll" and ConnectionInfo.setUserName("");
     ConnectionInfo.setPassword(null)
I looked through the forums and find different set of properties.
Actually because I am just working with Pojos I would have thougth that something like the following
would be sufficient:

Can't simulate GTH wrapper generated from scratch

Hi,
I need to use some GTH transceivers of the Virtex-6 FPGA (ML630 eval board) to communicate with a high speed digital-to-analog converter (DAC). I am firstly trying to simulate the wrapper of the GTH transceiver I created, in order to understand the signals assertion flow. However, in simulation the serial pins for transmission are always '1' (both p and n pins).
The wrapper is created using core generator with option "from scratch" to operate in 9.92 Gbps with no line coding. The simulation uses the example design and testbench generated with the wrapper.
However, If I generate the wrapper with a pre-defined template (e.g. 10GBASE-R), the simulation works fine.
Does anybody know how can I solve this problem or some tip the could help me?

- ISE version 14.7
- GTH transceiver wizard version: 1.11
- FPGA: xc6vhx565t-2ff1924 (ML630)

I solved the problem. It seems to be a problem with GTH transceiver wizard, because, even setting in wizard the option "full rate", it generates an example design for "full rate", but init.vhd file is parameterized with "full rate" disabled, and the core never starts.

Has ANYONE created a web site from scratch with iweb 08 that is stable?

I have tried all the tricks i have been able to find to convert my old iweb 1.2 site to the new iweb08 software. I have tried deleting plist files, and changing the themes and re-saving. I am about to give up, and have two options
1. recreate the ENTIRE site from scratch. I am happy to do this, so long as there are people who have done it and their site domain files remain stable.
or
2. Go back to iweb 1.2 and save myself hassle.
Can anyone advise on this?

I have managed to recreate my website (www.vnlc.org is the domain name, www.studentgroups.ucla.edu/vnlc is the real address) and fixed the bugs as of yesterday, it took around 6 hours of fiddling but worth it for the new features. I used the watercolor theme, and you can visit the webpage to test its stability. The problems I encountered were:
1. Blog/Podcast pages didn't convert correctly, the yellow/blue band is missing and the picture frames were missing also, also some of the events had incorrect formatting.
a. Fix: You're going to have to recreate these pages, when a page has errors after a program update like this, its better to recreate the page again rather than keep stumbling with further little bugs that might pop up in the future.
2. Links to pages with titles that include the symbols : and - and foreign characters do not work.
a. I think this is a major area in which iweb08 digressed because I used to be able to use foreign and special characters in my links, but now I can't because it would not link appropriately.
Every other page seemed to work well, or had minor problem like incorrect font colors which can be remedied without recreating the whole page. I did not have the photo page problems that some other people had, my photo pages rendered perfectly and now has nice new features.
As a final word, iWeb'08 or rather the whole iLife'08 suite seems to be Beta status just like when Mac OS X first came out. Apple likes throwing at us these problematic new software and wait for the bugs to crop up to fix it. After I first got iWeb'08, I knew it would have major problems but I am hoping further updates would remedy our woes.

Scratch 22: Creating XML Publisher report from scratch in eBS

Problem:
How to build a XML Publisher (XMLP) report in eBS from scratch. Thus NOT adapting or converting an existing report.
Context:
I have an eBS R12 Vision instance up and running where I want to learn building XMLP reports.
This is what all tutorials I can find tell me to do:
Most reports apparently consist of a layout template e.g. TEST.rtf and a data template e.g. TEST.xml. Now in order to generate a new report layout I am supposed to take existing output in XML format and (using ‘Load Data’ function in Template Builder plugin in Word) specify in my layout template where and how I want the actual data to pop up. So far so good.
But now I want to build the data template from scratch and use it combined with a layout template. So I build the data template but can’t use that for building the layout template. For that I need output, for which I need a layout template.....
Sounds like Catch 22 to me. How do I break this?
1. Can I generate an XML-output file from the XML Data Template alone?
2. Can I build my (RTF) layout template directly based upon the XML Data Template?
3. Or have I completely lost the plot?
Oh yes, dunno the first thing about Java and do not have My Oracle Support..

create data definition with your data template-> create concurrent -> output as xml -> run -> view output and your xml
I thought the XDODTEXE engine would pick up the (Layout) Template through concurrent program definition CPD short name which in turn points to the Data Definition (and thus Data Template). So does your answer mean I can call straight from CPD to Data Definition? I tried registering my Data Template in the Template Tab but it will not take XML as a type.2. Can I build my (RTF) layout template directly based upon the XML Data Template?

How do i create a single sign on environment from scratch?

setting up a single mac mini 10.6.6 server in a small law firm and want to create a sso environment from scratch. i have currently got everything working fine as an open directory master, but every reference to sso that i can find, talks about joining an existing sso environment, or joining ad, creating a triangle, but never a stand alone od master to create the sso. am i missing something, or is it not possible or practical to do in such a small office with just a few users?

anyway, that's starting to sound like something i might want to try, because so much of what i want to do is not really working the way i'm doing it. it had crossed my mind, but wasn't sure i was going to avoid problems by using network home folders instead of mobile accounts. at this point, i have only one of the four workstations bound to the server, which was purchased as a mac mini snow leopard server with the dual internal drives, and was set up as a mirrored raid with the 2 internal 500 gig drives.
i am seeing what seems to me like some odd behavior with network accounts working with the log in screen (all the users show up in the log in screen properly as network accounts, but only one account, the one that matches exactly the local account user name and password and allows log in) and auto mounting group shares are not seeming to work at all. what seems odd, is that management of the local account seems to be working great, and has merged management with the local account. the user still has all their existing documents and settings, but i can see that the things like the control panels i locked them out of are grayed out. so to be try to be clear here, i have 4 network accounts set up in wgm, and on the log in screen, i see 3 network accounts with the typical network user icon, and what looks like the original account with the original icon. i can only log in using that account, but when i get in there, it's managed ok. i expected to see the original local account and 4 network accounts, but evidently using the same user name on the server as the local account caused this. when i try to log in with one of the other network accounts, the login screen shakes it head no.
for the record, from another post talking about network log in issues, on the local system, setting System Preferences>Accounts>Login Options>Allow network users to log in at login window>Options>Only these network users: can mess this up, but my settings there are fine, since i had never messed with that. it says "allow all network users" or something like that.
here's what i am trying to get to: auto mounting group shares and single sign on for afp group folders and ichat, and as you said to allow the users to move around from workstation to workstation as needed. as you know, there's a myriad of settings to make this all happen. i don't see how anyone can help me fix the 2 things that aren't working, unless i give a long winded explanation of what my settings in workgroup manager and server admin are, so here goes…
i have dns and open directory running fine, a static map of ip addresses so that i can do authenticated directory binding, which seems great so far. in wgm, i have under preferences / computer list the one computer i have bound - computername$ and under window checked always, heading - directory status, list of users, show local users, network users, computer administrators, and other. under options checked always, enable fast user switching, computer administrators may refresh or disable management, and start screen saver after 5 minutes. under access checked always, clicked the gear button once which caused network users - allow - * to appear in the access control list, local only users may log in, local only users use available workgroup settings, and combine available workgroup settings. scripts and items have never checked.
then for workgroup folders to auto mount, i have set afp auto mounts for each of my 2 groups, partner admin and support staff in server admin / afp. under accounts / groups / support staff / group folder, the support staff auto mount is selected, and the user i am working with is obviously a member of that group under the members tab. finally, under preferences / groups / support staff / items, always and add group is checked and the support staff volume shows up in the list. authenticate selected share point with user's login name and password is grayed out and not checked, and merge with user's items is grayed out and checked. i'm not sure what i am missing to get auto mounting group folders here. btw, the user can for sure log into the group folder with the same user name password that she logs into the workstation with, if she does so manually under the go / connect to server menu.
oh, and ichat seems to work as expected. she gets sso there! sweet!
if i do end up trying to go for network home folders, (i would like to see auto mounting group folders working first, before i try) i found something that looks like a no-brainer to add to the mix…

So I created a button on my home page, and it is linked to this XML file. Everything works great except it only shows the item that I coded in...I want it to show ALL items.
Can I do this without having to input each item individually?
Is this how I should do it anyways with a button linking to this xml file?
I really want to have like 3-5 of the posts to auto update on my home page but I dont know how to embed the RSS into my HTML home page file.
Also, the way I have it coded, will it automatically update the new posts?
or do I have to wait for the new post and input the item into the xml file?
I am very new to the RSS feed so please help.

Create shared library on external drive from scratch

I have seen many posts about creating shared iTunes libraries on external drives with many different configurations, but mostly with pre-existing libraries. My question is creating the library from scratch. The purpose is obviously to share songs among several computers AND only have one copy of a song as to not take up unnecessary disk space on several computers.
All of our songs are on an external USB hard-drive attached to Airport Xtreme. Every song is in album folder, and every album folder is in an artist folder (very organized). All the artist folders (with their album and then song contents) are in a root folder called "Songs" on the external hard-drive.
We have upgraded our three Macs (iMac, MBP and MacMini) to Leopard and deleted all iTunes folders on each local hard drive (there was nothing in them anyway). We now want to create ONE iTunes folder on the hard drive so that each computer can access it. What are the steps? Here is what I "think" I've learned here on the postings with my questions:
1) First I opened iTunes on my first, main computer (iMac) and went into "Preferences" to change the iTunes music folder to [Ext HD]:iTunes:iTunes Music. The option, "Copy to music folder..." is deselected. (This will also be done on the other computers).
2) Now what to do? I could just move all of my song artist folders with their album subfolders and music files inside them, into the "iTunes Music" folder. But then what do I click to get iTunes to see all the songs and put them in its database? The other option is click "Add to Library" - but then don't I have to select all the individual songs? (I actually tried the latter method and it kept crashing). Can I just move all the folders into [Ext HD}:iTunes:iTunes Music folder and click something to get it to create its database based on all the music files that are now in its subfolders?
3) Next step. I have seen many people write that they then create an "Alias" and put the Alias in their "Music" folder on their LOCAL, computer's hard drive. Could someone now explicitly, step-by-step, describe how this is done? I assume I go to the external hard drive. Am I creating an alias of the entire "iTunes" folder, or of the "iTunes Music" subfolder, or of the library file??? Please answer this specifically.
So now I have "XXX alias" that I copy to my local, computer's hard drive and put it on my desktop. I take out the "....alias" word, and drag it to my local "Music" folder. It asks me to replace the existing folder/file, and I say yes. Correct? And then I do this on all three computers, correct?
4) Finally, after I've done all of this, I still have the following functionality questions -
4a) When we now add to the library, either from a CD or online purchase, ONE copy of the music should go in the "iTunes Music" folder on the external drive, correct?
4b) This system means that all three computers MUST have the same iTunes library, playlists, etc, correct? The downside of this system is that you cannot personalize libraries for each computer and just share the actual music files, correct? (If so, is there another process [steps 1-4 above] that results in a more customizable system where *ONLY ONE COPY* of the actual song file is shared?)
Sorry for the length of the message, and the questions. Truly I have read all the postings but was unable to map out my plan before I go and creating, finally, this one set of music that we can share. In advance, thank you all for your help.

I was afraid you'd say that, because I'm a long time Mac guy and I don't have the perfect answer. Have you ever messed with remote desktop? That'd seem to give her full access and control, something I personally wouldn't do, although it may work for you.
Another thought came to me that might work: copy over the complete library to her machine, and then when you do another major shoot, create a new catalog, edit, etc.and then import as catalog to you main one while sending her the new one.
I am sure there are more elegant solutions, but these are a couple of ways.

Creating a JSF Web application from scratch.

hi,
i have created a JSF web application, but not from scratch i had to use a jsf example included in the final specification of the JSF download, as a template to create my own application, by deleting and editing the example files with my own.
i tried to do it from scratch including all the settings, parameters and files that should be in place, but i sill get an error when starting the app in tomcat.
Unfortunately i dont have the error listing anymore since i have got around the problem through alternate path. however i do remember that it came with cannot find FacesServlet, or something to do with the FacesServlet.
if anyone could shed some light on this it would be really great because it so frustrating.

cannot find FacesServlet, or something to do with the FacesServlet.It might appear not because you have a wrong project structure, but because you point to the entry jsp file directly without using the servlet mapping in your URL. Check this first.
