I am looking for a good camera/mic combo for an iMac with OS 10.4.11. This would be for a family member to use Skype. Anyone have a recommendation?

Trying to improve the sound quality on some footage that was recorded in an auditorium using the on-board camera mic.....the levels are low to begin with, and the room has quite a hollow sound....

In agreement with DH - I've had this problem before and have tried to remedy it with little success.
You could fiddle around with a noise gate. To increase the volume, duplicate the audio track in the timeline.
Good luck and make sure the sound is recorded properly next time, monitoring with a decent set of headphones - I have a pair of Sennheiser HD-25 - not inexpensive but used by a lot of camera ops and sound recordists.
Don't rely on the on-board camera mic - they tend to be omni directional and capture all sorts of unwanted ambient sound - the audience coughing, sneezing, f**ting, babies crying etc (unless its a Metallica gig...). Depending upon the circumstances., use an external mic or go through the mixing desk.
I think you'll have to mark it zero dude (or at least put it down to experience.) if you're unable to re-record.

Enhancing the mic for the video camera

Does anyone know of any micas that you can attach that capture better sound? Also, what do you think of the built-in mic for video?

First, buy the $20 KM-IPHONE-2TRS iPhone 4 Y adapter to plug in an external Mic and Headphone. http://www.kvconnection.com/product-p/km-iphone-2trs.htm
Second, I would use Dual System Audio. Record Scratch audio via iPhone 4 internal mic & record Production audio via a Zoom H2 or Zoom H4n portable audio recorder.
You would sync up the Scratch and Production audio channels via PluralEyes http://www.singularsoftware.com/pluraleyes.html The mono analaog audio recorded on the iPhone 4 internal Mic / external Mic input cuts off below 200 Hz and has other fidelity issues.
Third, I would invest in a battery powered Rode NTG-2 Mic Kit with the excellent Pearston LMT00 Shockmount (to reduce handling noise) versus the lower end Rode VideoMic with flimsy Shockmount. Fourth, You should also invest in a good deadcat fuzzy to reduce wind noise and a boom pole when shooting outside.
Personally, I use a Zoom H2 with a $25 ATR-3350 Lav Mic and a $50 ECZ-990 Zoom Mic feeding into a Y cable on the H2 for 2 channel audio and sync in PluralEyes with the scratch audio off my iPhone 4. The 2 battery powered Mics mentioned above are real “portable” also.

SWFLoader in Air can't access Camera/Mic?

I have a Flex swf file I'm loading into an Air 1.5 app that does a video chat. Flex app standalone in a browser works fine, but when loaded into the Air app by SWFLoader, it can not stream cam/mic. logging shows it successfully connecting streams and running localVideo.publish(name).
Is this a security issue or something that is going make me cringe?
Really need an answer, any help appreciated,

When loading SWFs inside a Flex/AIR app, you can see restrictions depending on how each SWF was compiled, and what resources it is trying to access.

Current Lightroom / Camera Raw Camera Profile for Sony ILCE-6000 inaccurate: green cast in shadows! Capture one better! Please fix it!

Please take note that the current Lightroom / Adobe Camera Raw Camera Profile for the Sony ILCE-6000 is very inaccurate: There is a serious green cast in the shadows!
Capture One Express for Sony (which is free by the way) renders a lot more correctly!
Please correct this, since I'd rather buy the coming LR6 because of keeping my established workflow instead of going the Capture One route.
A good example can be found in the dpreview forum "LR5 A6K shadow pulling, a mess! Adobe LR is broken? "
Or search for Philp Reeves 3 weeks with the Sony A6000 review "3 Wochen mit der a6000", where he compares it to the Sony A7, using both times Lightroom to push the shadows.
The Sony A7 is fine where earth looks like brown earth, the A6000 picture looks like grass instead.
Please fix this! This is a high volume camera frequently bought by enthusiast or as second body for FF photographers. That would be really great!

I am talking about the two raw files linked in the very last post of page 6 of the Reeves comparison thread, not JPGs or screenshots of unknown manipulation. In LR they both say f/11 and ISO 100 and have a similar tone, but one is shot at twice the shutter speed as the other. This side-by-side is using Adobe Factory Defaults for each image where the profile is Adobe Standard, the toning sliders are all 0, tone-curve linear, and the Sharpening and Color NR are 25:
However, when I look at the camera-embedded JPGs, side-by-side, the 1/80th image on the left is darker than the 1/40th image on the right, as expected given the reported shutter-speed difference:
And it is indeed the darker image that has more shadow problems, also as expected.
When I do manipulate the darker (a6000) raw file in LR, I do see that the shadows are greenish when brightened unlike most other cameras which usually show magenta, which is the combination of the blue and red sensors showing more noise because there are half-as-many photosites as compared to the green, so I am seeing what people are complaining about and would expect shadow noise to be purple not green, I'm more concerned that these two example raws aren't actually comparable due to apparent differences in exposure. It is also odd that the lens listed in LR is different than the lens listed in the filename, so either someone has mistakenly or deliberately renamed the file wrong or someone or something has changed the EXIF parameters that LR is reporting to be the same when they're really not.

In a roaming network, your "main" router is the device that would require port mapping/forwarding to be configured in order to access the IP camera from the Internet. This router is also the one that would be provide the private IP address for the camera which you will want to be a static one.
So as you described your network, the IP cameras should be getting an IP address or you assigned it a static one and this is the address that you would enter in the Private IP address (or equivalent depending on the router used) field when setting up port mapping.
If you are not able to access this camera from the local network, then this should be troubleshot first.

Audio (music from camera mic is not matching}

I have the Sony dsr 300a I record music from a party on the my camera mic ch1 .Than I got the song from my Itunes libary same song and lenght . I laying the song on track A2 A3 in fcp having A1 camera mic audio it snyns up for a few secs than goes out of sny or flows out from the camera mic audio that was comming from the party/dj .I do bring in from Itunes in at 48k ??

Why would you expect to remain in sync? Unless the music at the party was played back with a timecode-driven device, and then you used that same music cue, WITH TIME CODE, to bring into your show, you'll never have total sync.
Not to mention that I'll bet you don't have sync rights to use the song...

Camera kit for newest iPad

I have a cameral kit for my old iPad but now that the port is different I'm wondering if Apple is coming out with a new kit to accommodate the latest iPad with lightning port. Does anyone know? I don't see anything on the Apple site.

There already is a new "Camera Kit" for the Lightning connector.

Best mic for a wedding

what is the best mic to use for a wedding ceromony, I have one coming up and need to buy the right one for the job. I'm thinking wireless lavaliers but not sure if the bride would go for it. How well will one on the groom perform? Will a camera mount shotgun do the trick or do I need to get it in closer? Or should I just resort to subtitles?
Any help greatly received.

Absolutely do not resort to subtitles - this will just make the production look unplanned and unprofessional. Capturing sound in a church (or register office for that matter) is not easy.
If you can use a wireless Lav, (I like the Sennheisers) then go for it - you won't need to mic both bride and groom - if you mic the groom, the bride should be in range as well (and quite possibly the vicar) - but I would recommend that you ensure you are conversant with the equipment and do a practice run.
Churches tend to be very 'echoey' locations and on camera microphones will pick up the inevitable coughing and babies crying, so if going down this route, use a more directional on-cam mic.
I would also recommend using a minidisc recorder as a back-up, placed near to the couple. These can be bought quite cheaply now on ebay and are small enough to be discreetly placed. Again, thorough knowledge of the equipment is a must.
Whatever route you choose to take, I would strongly recommend having a reliable assistant - primarily as second cam, but also to assist in general, as you will have a lot of gear to look after.

Camera & Mic Settings by site

Question - In Flash 10.3, if I go into Control Panel in either XP or Win7, and set the Camera & Mic to ALLOW for a specific site, then does that get applied to all Windows user profiles? So for example as different users log into Windows on the same machine and they launch or go to that site, is the microphone already set to "Allow" for them - because I already set it in Control Panel? Or is it still profile specific and are they going to get prompted the first time they go to that site?
So in essence, by allowing a site to use the Mic in the Global Settings in Control Panel, is that global for all users then who log into that machine?

Pat is (as usual) correct--I checked with a member of the engineering team, and received the following response:
"Yes, currently the setting only applies to the current user account. It does not affect the Cam/Mic setting for all user accounts on the machine. If you want to affect settings for all user accounts, you should use the mms.cfg file."

Camera mic?

Hi,
I have a logitech mic with the standard pink plug, which I've learned is apparently incompatible with the G5.
So I'm wondering if there's someway I can use my camera's mic as a mic until such time as I purchase a USB mic of some sort. I know the camera mic works fine for capturing live audio in Quicktime and FCP. Is it possible to use the camera mic as a "plain old mic" as well? If so, how? I can't seem to figure it out. Maybe it's just too late...

What kind of camera do you have, and how does it attach to the G5?
Plug it in, turn it on (if it has a power switch), go to System Preferences, Sound, Input, and see if it's auto-detected as an input source. If so, you should be able to record sound from it.

Camera mic audio

I have some audio that a boneheaded co-worker of mine shot with the camera mic enabled, instead of the lavalier. Does anybody know of any settings (a preset, perhaps?) in something like Soundtrack Pro or Logic that I can use to fix this? I'm not having too much luck with the general EQ. Also, the bad audio clip is going to used next to a correctly recorded audio clip, so, right now, the difference is extremely noticeable.

HOW TO EasyDisable CAM/Mic

It's convenient to have integrated Camera/Mic on some Thinkpads. One suggestion for improved privacy here (or if it exists, please let me know. Thanks!)
Scenario: Skype is working with Cam/Mic on. Skype (or other cam/mic software) crashes -- not too surprising on a Vista. Camera is left on with the green LED light on! The camera and mic will remain on until next reboot ...
Concern: There is obvious privacy concern on such behavior. Is there an easy way to disable camera/mic, just like there is one button to disable wireless (for security and flight safety, for example).

I love the Octava and use it for interviews as a "poor man's schoeps ", but its no good as an on camera mic. Too sensitive to noise, handling and wind and not directional enbough. The AT 875 as I understand it is derived from the traditional Sony mono camera on Broadcast cameras for years and years. Thus its basically designed for that purpose and deals with handling and wind noise very well. Its just about as directional as you want , and is not bad sounding at all. i use an old Sony camera mic, but my understanding is the 875 is the same thing. I'm sure there may be better mics out there but you won't go wrong with teh AT. I hate the senn 64 series - but what do I know I'm just a shooter. hey - what the heck are those little music labels under our names - Top 40, groovin, etc ?????
