Combining 2 graphics

Hello,
I have a logo of sorts that I am trying to put 2 pieces together.   The line shows where I have joined them. Can someone help a beginner with this? When I select the 2 pieces,  it will not let me join the paths. (Join does not light up).
I have attached a screen shot for clarity.
Thank you in advance!

Well,  I think you may be right.  I was looking at it in preview mode and a very small white line still showed.  I was afraid when printed it would show up.  But ... when I export it,  I see nothing.
I will just go with it.
Thank you!

  • Digital Signatures with Graphics - Possible?

Can a .jpg be converted to .pdf/.pfx to merge into the .pfx for a combined graphic & digital signature?
    Thanks, Teresea

    Hi,
Is the digital signature in the form of a bmp or tiff ? If yes, then you can have a BDC of SE78(Graphics Management ), which will upload the graphics to the SAP system & then you can use it in your smart form or sap script dynamically.

  • Improve the implementation of graphic and paragraph styles

The implementation of Graphic and Paragraph Styles should be more consistent:
You can currently edit the attributes of paragraph styles (e.g., point size) but not of graphic styles (outer glow). With graphic styles, you have to overwrite the existing style rather than edit it.
Graphic Styles have the concept of "breaking the link" whereas Paragraph Styles don't.
Add the ability to select objects based on a paragraph style (yes, you can select based on Attribute, but not all objects with a specific paragraph style).
Combine graphic and paragraph styles. For example, I want a style with a 12 pt font and an outer glow.

    Same thing happening here.
You can though first create some type with a 12 point stroke , then define a new paragraph style, and even though it says 10pt will apply 12pt.
If you have not looked into graphic styles, that might be a better option for stokes. You can
Move the fill on top of the stroke (allows you to use a different color for stroke, so the orignal sahep of type doe not get squeezed)
    Use multiple strokes aroudn type
Set the corner options to round
For appearance & graphic style, the secret to type is to first set your type fill and stroke to none (this removes the stylization at the character level), then apply strokes and fills in the appearance palette at the type level only. This way the stylization won't fight with each other.

  • How to add text to photos[non slides]

I can't find any way to add text to a slide except with slideshow or book page. Surely Aperture couldn't forget this. Anybody??

Aperture didn't forget that -- it's outside its remit.
Aperture provides powerful tools for two tasks:
Digital photograph conversion and development (esp. RAW), and
    Digital asset management (a/k/a DAM).
You might be able to do what you want with the free but full-featured Aperture plug-in Border FX.
For true compositing (combining graphics elements, text, and geometric primatives), you need a graphics program.

  • Cannot change Colour within a picture

I have tried to change the colour of the sky in a picture, the origianl sky is a washed out white due to poor weather conditions.
I have used the colour picker in the adjustmentstab and when i try to sample the origianl sky is comes up with a Hue of 0 and the main colour is RED ???
and also i cannot change this colour, what am i doing wrong?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi John.
I will happily be corrected, but the information you're getting from Ir. Bob is misleading.
Aperture is an image development program.  One of it's core design principles is that it doesn't add data to an image -- it takes the existing data and adjusts it.  This is why there is no "editing" in Aperture.  In Aperture, one makes "adjustments".
Those adjustments (almost) all follow this pattern:
original pixel values * adjustment parameter = adjusted pixel value
The original pixel value for your sky is, apparently, red.  This happened when you took the photograph.  You have, in photography parlance, "blown the highlights"  This isn't the forum to explain that, but you will most certainly want to research what that means and how to avoid it in the future.
Blown highlights can sometimes be recovered from the RAW data using the "Recovery" slider in the Exposure Brick.
From what you say, I don't think this will work for your image.
Since your highlights are blown, you will want to add blue to the image.  That kind of operation is not done with Aperture.  You will need to use a Graphics Editing package (such as Photoshop or any of the free or inexpensive programs like it).  Graphics Editors combine graphics elements.  They allow you to add data to images.
My reply covers a lot of basic concepts.  I strongly suggest some books or a course on photography as you move forward with Aperture.
    Good Luck.

  • Are brushed adjustments in Aperture worth it?

It would be interesting to know if people have a different approach.
I often use Silver FX Pro and Color FX Pro, but I'm not sure if they are the best.
Also, I use Photshop mostly for brushing, cropping, and masking, but Aperture is for
making uniform changes in brightness, contrast, black & white vs. color, and some of those add-ons and funky filters.
Is there anyone here that thinks Aperture brushes are better than Photoshop brushes?

    Thank you for illustrating, Kirby.
I agree that Photoshop is ideal for combining graphics with photography.  It's a no-brainer, really.
I did just that, yesterday... an attempt at humoring certain people (it worked):
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/mycophagia
Even Illustrator can be used for such purposes if you know too much about it. (That was a joke on how elaborate it is)
Me, I see Photoshop as the halfway point between Illustrator and Aperture, with Illustrator being the grand-daddy of all "graphics from scratch" apps, and Aperture the ideal tool for a photographer.  But everything that can be done in Aperture can also be done in Photoshop, sometimes better.  The biggest downside is that I get .psd files accumulating, inside folders littered all over my hard drive.
My use of Photoshop is done as quickly as possible (I prefer it simple) by working in only two layers.  My brain cannot handle the concept of complex things like 'layer masks' and 'smart objects'.  I just clone one layer, put the better, adjusted layer underneath it, and then erase what doesnt look good on the top layer... change the opacity or the softness of your tools and you have yourself whatever kind of "brush" you need.  Of course, this does not always work without the assistance of the "marching ants", but it's easy to put them in.
The biggest problem in photography I have (and the chief reason I  export to Photoshop) is washed out skies and skies with no blue in them.  Without using a polarized filter (i dont like them), skies are captured more often than not, as white and washed out, especially on an overcast day.  This is the bane of my existence.  I'm surpised I havent figure this one out yet.  Underexpose the picture?  Sure, maybe, but I think it sounds like a horrible plan.

  • 3:2 - 4:3 - ETC

I know this is really basic. But it's about time I understood. So far for years I've been winging it. Now I'm interested in getting the best clear graphics from Motion to FCP. If I'm shooting regular mini DV tapes with an anamorphic adapter, so it's I believe 16:9. Then if I want to add graphics from Motion, what should I set the project preferences to? 4:3, 720x480, 720x486, 3:2, 640x480, etc. etc.
And then when I export it from Motion, should I go into the advanced settings for "Compression Settings" and choose "animation" or "DV/DVC-NTSC" and 16:9 or,.. I'm just confused.
And why is 4:3 what ever other program has a preset, but when you do it in FCP it switches coordinates to 640?
What is NTSC - CCIR 601 in FCP? Why in FCP is the their a main setting NTSC DV 720 x 480 and it's (3:2), and when you choose (4:3) the coordinates change to 640x480? NTSC - CCIR 601 Sq. (4:3) 720x540?
What the heck is going on, why are all these popular programs calling it something different?
I would love it if someone who works in Motion (combination graphics and video integrated projects) and exports to FCP all the time, could send me their normal routine for NTSC DV Anamorphic miniDV projects. Too MANY CHOICES.
    I appreciate it.

You covered alot for one post!
I was exploring a related aspect ratio issue this morning in the forum, and one critical fact that relates to some of your questions is that the pixels on a computer screen are square, but those on traditional video monitors are narrower-horizontal. Regular old TVs have rectangular (narrow) pixels and all the new wide screen plasma and flat panel TVs are going to square pixels. So in effect, after compensating for the shape of the pixels, 640 square pixels net about the same visual ratio as 720 rectangular pixels.
What I gather is going on in our FCP workflow (from my earlier exploration) is that some of the software is compensating for the different shaped pixels and some isn't. With the advent of wide screen and high def and all the new technology, aspect ratio seems to be an issue that will be a hassle until one day everyone is viewing everything wide screen on a square-pixel monitor.
At least this is one part of what may be ailing you.

This is what was posted on the Final Cut Pro forum:
"The seasoned pros on this forum recommend using the standard 720 x 480 for exporting standard video - especially if you are planning for it to be viewed on a home TV set. I have found that I can view the same exact DVD burned from my 720 x 480 video on our good old standard TV set, and it is normal...BUT when I take the same disk to my next door neighbor's with a wide screen high def plasma TV, the TV automatically stretches it out to fill the screen. 16:9 will be overtaking 4:3 on home TV sets, for sure (go look at what TVs are for sale today in a Walmart store!), but until all the old square-ish TV sets and monitors are retired, it seems we have to deal. • Simple command line pdf creation

I need to create a pdf that is simply combining graphic files in a directory.
Using VBScript I would like to be able to provide the output pdf name as well as all files to be included.  I have looked but could not find an easy solution.  I also could not find example code.
I am not opposed to writting C# code to create a program to do this but there must be something out there that does this already.  I have Acrobat available but again no simple solution to provide the output name and input files.

Would it still be possible to use a powershell script that will open the document. would look like:
    ".\acrobat.exe /A "page=1=OpenActions" "location/of/pdf.pdf"
and then call an encapsulted javascript to add a premade security policy on the opened pdf? Am i just hoping for to much??
Would i be able to accomplish something similiar by using the SDK??

  • PageMaker vs. Publisher

I know, I know, it's not even a contest, but my company doesn't understand that! Here's the problem, I suggested making a number of templates for proposals that we send out and I want to use PM. However, the typist that assembles the proposals claims that Publisher is a much better program because she "can't stand" working in PM because it is "not user friendly." I offered to tutor her in PM, but she refuses. I need to convince my boss that PM is a far superior program, but since he doesn't know anything about either program, it's hard to make him understand that Publisher is just not as professional or capable a program. So if anyone could add to my list of why PM is better than Publisher, I'd really appreciate it. You'd think they'd trust the professional opinion of their designer over typist, but that's my company for you.
    My main points are that:
Publisher only allows you to open one document at a time.
Commercial printers don't accept Publisher files.
    etc.
    Please add more!

Courtney I was once faced with the same problem I got a job where a boss thought it would be alright for me to use Publisher. I was horrified! Here's what I did:
"To see whether my dislike of Microsoft Publisher was simply professional prejudice, I decided to carry out some simple design work using Pagemaker and then do the same job using Microsoft Publisher. I made brief notes of some differences I found between the programs, where this would affect the ability to produce accurate work speedily and efficiently.
    1. No screen drag function, as in Pagemaker etc., ALT key
    2. No quick zoom in and out. F9 key moves to top of page if no object selected
2a. There is no zoom tool. If an object is selected, the zoom feature takes you to the centre of the object.
2b The program forces you to use frames for everything. They tend to get in the way of viewing the page you are trying to create. Text snaps to the frame around it, not the text itself weird and unworkable. Even if you line up using the frame borders, it sets different frame margins depending on the size of the text! In layout and design, alignment is everything.
2c. In Publisher, tracking works by increasing the width of the letters (rather than the space between them) unbelievable!!!
2d. It's only possible to have one document open at a time. This is very limiting.
2e. There are no European standard sizes to choose from when setting the page size independently from the paper size. When you want to bleed off the page and show crop marks - you are going to have to work out the size of the page and enter the figures in dialog boxes.
    3. Property palette measurements do not change interactively
    4. No facility to nudge font sizes in decimal increments
    5. No facility to nudge font sizes by point units
    6. Not enough freedom to combine graphics with text
    7. So much handholding leads to rigid formatting limitations, e.g., combining boxes and text. Text frames etc
    8. Too much screen clutter
    9. Clumsy colour selection using menu choices colour palette. The colour palette is only accessible via menu selections.
    10. Quirky application of ruler units and snapping functions. Unable to specify ruler settings.
    11. Alignment of text within frames makes accurate typesetting awkward see 2b
    12. Lack of keyboard shortcuts and control palette makes simple jobs arduous. Double clicking on appropriate tool in Pagemaker sets that tool's settings
    13. No opportunity to set nudge options for resizing objects to correct print dimensions; dimensions have to be typed in. Nudge settings seem to be arbitrary
    14. There is no interactive tab-positioning tool. It isn't possible to move tab stops within the dialogue box.
    15. No interactive kerning controls. Manual kerning takes place through a menu selection and insertion of a number. Press the apply button in the dialogue box and see the effect, repeat to change!!!
    16. UNABLE TO SELECT "UNDER" an object. "Help" suggests sending objects to the back that are in the way!! Unbelievable!
    17. Slow resizing pictures and redrawing screen
    18. No ability to resize pictures by entering values as per Pagemaker control palette.
    19. Drawing a guide across the page to a selected position very difficult, unless you zoom in first.
    20. Hide/show guides requires a menu selection. "Ctrl :" on Pagemaker.
    21. Both Ruler and Layout guides are hidden behind objects!!
    22. Objects disappear when being moved, making it difficult to position accurately.
    23. Publisher is unable to process documents correctly via the Postscript driver as follows:-
    i) EPS files are not printed correctly
ii) Crop Marks are not printed at all
iii) Banding and fringing very evident on graphic elements
iv) No option to print colour separations
    24. There is no automatic "align and distribute facility.
    Conclusion.
A printer's job is most often to copy a job given to him by a customer. The job has to be done accurately and speedily. Microsoft Publisher does not have these virtues
Microsoft Publisher is unable to produce output that is satisfactory for bureau work.
Microsoft Publisher, at about a fifth of the price of PageMaker, is fine for home use, but cannot be taken seriously as a typesetting and layout tool for printing, even for simple jobs.

  • COMBINED TEXT & GRAPHICS QUALITY

I'm looking at buying a high-end colour laser like the Xerox 7750 or Ricoh 7200. I've got a few questions about colour lasers in general (see my other recent posts). Feel free to offer any comments about:
    COMBINED TEXT & GRAPHICS QUALITY
My HP scanner has options that optimise the scanning quality for text, graphics or both. ie it appears there is no one setting that scans a mixed page at the best quality. I've noticed on reading printer manuals that some also offer different print settings for graphics and text. Do colour lasers print text in an inferior way if there are graphics on the same page; and vice versa? Or should text quality (and graphics) stay the same no matter what else is on the page? Assume the text is sent to the printer as actual text (not rasterised in the application).
In the Ricoh 7200 manual it states: "If text & graphics are blurred, select Text Priority under Graphic Mode from the Maintenance menu and then print."
There is no more explanation, but when I saw that I immediately thought: if I select Text Priority is text quality somehow improved at the expense of graphics quality? Do lasers have this limitation?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Import the TIFF into a pdf, you can use the Text Recognition tool page by page. Personally, I prefer for a job like your to use a dedicated OCR program that lets me designate which parts of the page should be considered graphics and which are text that needs to be OCRd.

  • Combine files leaves line around inserted graphic

I create documents in Word and insert my signature as graphic before converting to acrobat 9.  I have discovered that while that looks fine, when I combine that document with another document a vertical line appears to the right of my graphic of the signature (which to me mars the signed look).  I have a verisign id and can certify the adobe file  and include a graphic of my signature that way but I prefer to generally just include my signature from Word.  Any idea why I am getting the line after combining files (or more importantly, if it is easy to get rid of that line!)?  Thanks -- Scott

I inserted a graphic of my signature in Word - the graphic is in a .png
format.  It looks fine in Word and it looks fine when I convert it to a PDF.
The vertical line to the right of the graphic appears when I combine the PDF
of my report with a PDF of another page (a request for services) into one
PDF file (binder, not portfolio).  Thanks for your help, it baffles me and I
typically make a couple of files to send electronically per day! -- Scott

  • Combined text/graphics OCR problem

    Hi.
I need to convert a dozen of manuals from tiff to (editable) Word files. Each tiff file is one manual consisting about 50 pages.
There are graphics on some pages with words and/or numbers in it (technical schemes).
When I open them in Adobe Acrobat Pro and convert/save it to Word using OCR, the schemes are getting messed up because of the OCR.
How can I let it use OCR on the text pages only and leave the graphics as they are?

Import the TIFF into a pdf, you can use the Text Recognition tool page by page. Personally, I prefer for a job like your to use a dedicated OCR program that lets me designate which parts of the page should be considered graphics and which are text that needs to be OCRd.

  • Need help combining a Layout and Graphics

Okay, I've been working on this for a long time now, and I'm getting close...but not quite.
I want to have a JApplet where I can use Graphics methods, as well as JButton, etc. However, if I set my applet to use a certain type of Layout (setLayout), it will only display the JButton and none of the graphics that I drew in paintComponent(). If I don't define a Layout at all, the JButton covers the entire applet. If I take out the JButton and the Layout, then I do see the Graphics. So, it's like the Graphics are being hidden underneath the Layout, and I don't know how to get them to show through.
Here's what I have...as you can see from the billion commented lines, I tried a lot of different things.

  • Cisco Objects. Combine TEXT and GRAPHIC

Hi, I'm using the CCM width 7970 Phones.
    Two simple questions.
    1) How I can display an Image at left and a text description at right through cisco objects?
Can I have an object that mix the CiscoIPPhoneText and CiscoIPPhoneImageFile?
    2) In the CiscoIPPhoneText I have a phone number and I would like the user dial it just touching the screen.
I have to use SoftKeys or there is another method?
    thanks in advance.

    1) You have to build the composite image yourself. This isn't so bad as long as you have at your disposal a good image library, such as .NET or Java.
    2) Once you build the code for step 1, use CiscoIPPhoneGraphicFileMenu instead of Text and make a touch-screen region for that number:). Otherwise, if you must use CiscoIPPhoneText, you are right--you must use a softkey for something that the user can push.
