Combining 2 or more imovie08 projects onto 1 idvd

Hey all- I am trying to put two published imovie projects onto the same dvd. The projects are in my media browser and when I try to put more than one in the IDVD media grid it is whisked back to it's window. Surely this combining of projects can be done. I also tryed to accomplish this in magic dvd and was unsuccessful in that mode also. I searched this topic and saw a solution that suggested exported to quicktime, I was hoping to just combine and burn. I have the Missing Manual for IMAC and IDVD08 and will share all included if requested. Unfortunately, it does not address this. thanks mb

I'd suggest you use the QT movie /file generated by iMovie in two separate movie within iDvd, provided you do not exceed 120 mins combined QT playback for both.

  • How can I combine two separate video projects onto one DVD with a common menu?

In PE 3 I have a finished video project and a separate slideshow that I want to include together on the same DVD with a common menu. I would like the slide show to be accessible from the main menu of the DVD, something like: "Play Movie" and "Play Slideshow". How do I do it?

I need to burn a Final Cut Pro project onto a DVD. I watched a tutorial but they were using Final cut Pro 10. How do I burn a project just using Final Cut Pro? and can I go through IDVD? ( oh and how can I finalize the project?) Thanks!

I did that already it it only burned one section of the project. How do I export a master file? Can i just save it on the computer then take it to IDVD? Thank you so much for helping me!

Startup disc is Macintosh HD. If your HD is getting near full capacity you'll need to offload some files to an external drive or drives.

  • Best way to divide iDVD project onto 2 DVDs?

I have an iDVD project that I've spent sooooooo much time on, and after burning to DVD, the quality was awful (zigzaginess with movement in the shadow areas, etc etc).
The project duration is 80:44 minutes. DVD capacity says 4.4GB of 4.2 GB.
So would the best thing be to divide it into two DVDs? Part 1 and Part 2? Do I just make a copy of the file, and delete chapters 1-25 on one and chapters 26-51 on the other? Is it that simple?

No, a standard DVD-R disk can hold 120 minutes, so you are well within the disk capacity. The file size has nothing to do with it. It is running time that counts. Also, 4.2 GB = 4.7 GB. It is just being expressed differently. But none of this has any bearing on the quality of your final DVD. You are well within capacity. It is not necessary, nor would it be helpful, to divide your project into two DVDs.
If your still images look jaggy, it probably was because you used the Share menu function to share your iMovie project to iDVD and when the prompt came up to render or proceed anyway, you selected render. Don't do that. Always select Proceed Anyway. That way iDVD will do the rendering and it does a much better job than iMovie. iMovie's rendering, in fact, is destructive and can ruin the appearance of your still images on the final DVD.
Instead of using the Share function, I find it best to drag the iMovie project icon (the one with the star on it) into the edge of your iDVD main menu window, being careful not to put it in a drop zone. Your movie will then import into iDVD and iDVD will handle all of the rendering. Your results will be much better.
Then save your iDVD project as a disk image (an option on the file menu) and burn your DVD from the Disk Image using the Disk Utility app on your Mac. That usually yields the best results.
Also, for projects between 60 minutes and 120 minutes duration, you should burn using the Best Quality setting rather than best performance.
If your moving video clips look like they have moving combed lines through them when the clip depicts hard edged images or parallel lines, that is due to interlacing. iDVD is designed to produce projects that play on an interlaced TV. If you play it on a progressive screen TV, or on your progressive computer screen, you may get the wavy lines that come from playing interlaced material on a progressive screen. Splitting your project into two projects will not help that.

  • 2 1/2 hours onto iDVD?

I am using Final Cut Pro 4 and have a 2 1/2 hour movie that I need to fit onto iDVD. I tried compressing the file with Compresor, but iDVD dosn't recognize compressed files. What can I do to fit this movie onto iDVD? Is there a specific export setting I can use that will reduce the file size and still retain fairly good sound and image quality?

    - Dsprate In Low Buget Land

Things are heating up a bit too much, so this will be my last post to this thread.
    Rob,
As stated, they are just options to possibly solve
the OP's dilemma ... not necessarily addressing his
specific question. Since he has been trying to fit a
2.5 hour program on DVD-5 media using a tool (iDVD)
that has a 2 hour limit on program length, I felt
that offering other options was in order.
Nothing personal David, it's all appreciated. Offering options is of course valuable, especially when the options are viable.
    1) I don't have or use iDVD so I cannot say whether
or not is supports dual layer discs.
    Fair enough.
    2) Using DVD-SP is a valid option - sure you have to
buy it, but since the OP stated he is using FCP 4, he
should qualify for the $199.00 up/crossgrade to Final
Cut Studio. I don't think you could find a better
deal anywhere for software of that caliber unless
someone was giving it away. And there's certainly no
need to buy a post-production facility just to burn a
DVD. But then, with a decent Mac and Final Cut
Studio you'd be well on your way to doing just that.
Are you telling me that in the whole mac world, the only piece of software that's accessible to the OP and that'll give him decent quality output is DVDSP for which he has to shell out $200? Like I said, there are millions of programs for DVD authoring for Windows (try the google experiment I suggested earlier), and I refuse to believe that the mac world can only answer with DVDSP for $200 (or indeed $1200 for FCS, in case someone is just coming to the world of mac for editing purposes, lol! "Be warned, that if you want to actually output your work, you must buy into the entire FCS as there are no other options... that's $1200, thank you!").
    3) What if you want to do it on one disc? Heck, I'd
like to be able to cram 14 raided SATA drives inside
my G5, but what we want isn't always the best option.
    I've listed other one-disc options anyway. A 2 disc
set IS a very valid option that the OP may have not
considered. It would allow the bit rate to be set
higher resulting in better quality as well.
The obvious answer is to do it on a DL disc. So what's all the drama about cramming 150 minutes into a SL disc? Nobody suggested that. ONE disc does not mean SINGLE layer disc. There's also DL. No need to split up the output to two discs. Since iDVD can't do over 2 hours, the natural thing is to suggest software that can (hopefully AGAIN, DVDSP is not the ONLY software that can do i!!!).
    4) Yes, I have stated on several occasions that I
feel the encoding quality of Toast is lacking (when
compared to other encoding apps). But trying to fit
150 minutes onto a single layer DVD is going to mean
a quality hit no matter what you do.
No, the 150 minutes is not the issue. Again, why the focus on SL discs? Who's suggesting that? ONE disc is not only SL. After all you can use a DL disc, so why do you keep talking about "trying to fit 150 minutes onto a single layer DVD"? Who said he's limited to SL? Didn't you yourself suggest DL? That's a red herring. The problem is not the quality of SL stuff burned with Toast, the problem is the compression engine used by Toast, whether SL, DL or whatever. That doesn't make it viable, unless the OP doesn't care about that level of quality. Again: is DVDSP the ONLY software in the mac world that will give you decent quality output? Don't you see that this is what you seem to keep suggesting over and over and over again? If you are right, then I'd suggest there is a very serious problem for mac users. The entire point of my posting in this thread, however, is to say that I find that suggestion hard to believe, and I hope against hope that SOMEONE has actually used another piece of software (for less than $200!) that can give good quality output... so far we have suggestions to the effect "try this, it might work, I've never done it myself"... not exactly a vote of confidence.
    5) A standalone DVD recorder does its own encoding
from the video signal being fed in to it. No need to
convert file types, just connect A/V cables to the
inputs. The one I have (Pioneer DVR-533H-S) does
have a Firewire input and when connected to my Mac,
FCP recognizes it as a DV device. I simply playback
from the Timeline or do a Print-to-Tape. It records
to disc in RT, plus about 3 minutes afterward for
disc finalization. The user can set the record time
in 15 minute increments up to 6 hours (I cannot
attest to the quality of long recording times).
Again, what I would hope is testimony from someone who CAN attest to the quality. Not faulting you, merely saying that this question never seems to get a satisfactory answer on the board. Answer would be short and sweet: "Yes, of course in the mac world we have several software options to do what you want to do - f.ex. program X, at $50 will output very good quality DVDs of 150 minutes on a DL DVD - that's just one among many such apps". That's it! Instead we get: "DVDSP the one and only, and anything else, has either poor quality (Toast 7), or is untried, and maybe will work, maybe not, and oh yeah, we actually don't have another software solution, so how about a hardware solution, cause I'm sure you need another hunking piece of metal to add to your collection... and even so, I'm not sure about the quality of the result."
    6) As far as my re-editing suggestion; that too is a
very valid option. It was not at all intended to be
sarcasm. How you took it that way is beyond me.
Sorry David, here I must disagree. Do you imagine for 1 second that someone who has 150 minute film is unaware of the option of editing things down? If they are at 150, it is presumably because that's what they find to be optimal. It is insulting to suggest that it may not have occured to him/her to edit it down. Not to mention the laziest kind of advice. "I'm thirsty, where can I get something to drink around here?" "Have you considered not quenching your thirst?" "My car is not working, where can I get it fixed" "Have you considered not fixing it?". This is so silly, I'm shocked you'd actually suggest this in answer to a technical question of how to output a 150 minute DVD "make it less than 120". If he wanted to do a 120 minute project, he wouldn't be doing a 150 minute one. You CANNOT be serious. I'd suggest you NOT to give this particular piece of "advice", as it's highly insulting.
In fact, it would seem that you've taken exception to
just about all of the options I listed. Hopefully
you'll re-read them in a more objective light.
    -DH
I have only taken exception to what your wrote, based on my own experience - I had an almost identical question (134 minute long project), and I saw the answers I got. I'm here to tell you, these kinds of answers DO NOT help. What would help is: "DVDSP is not the sole solitary unique and only option in the whole wide world of Apple computers if you want good quality output to a DL disc of material over 120 minutes long. For example Softare X, one among many, will do exactly that, and this has been widely confirmed." That's it! Are you suggesting that apart from the holy DVDSP there IS NOT ONE such software solution that has been CONFIRMED to give good quality output to a DL disc? Either that's true, in which case it's incredibly sad and depressing for mac owners, or it's not true... and if not true, then we need to find what that Software X is - so far, you don't seem to have the answer. Mabye somebody does.

  • Import a PE project onto a PE project

I have two PE projects and wish to combine them.  I am hoping someone can help if there's an easy way to do this?
    Cheers
    Tony

    Tony,
As of PrE 8, there is no way to do this directly, as there is in PrPro - unfortunately.
Neale has linked to the workaround though, and it's not that difficult.
Two caveats on the Export/Share and then combine into a "master Project" however: Do not delete the original Projects (two in your case), until you are 100% certain that you have things, just as you need them.
When you are preparing your "child Projects" for Export/Share, remember that you will be generating new Assets, which will contain everything on those Timelines, and in the form they exist on those Timelines. The biggest hangup, that most encounter, is that they cut too tightly, and will also add Transitions in the child Projects. This means that you will no longer have any Handles on your Clips, and that Transitions are "set in stone." This is fine, if one is 100% certain that things are perfect and will never be changed. If one is not 100% certain, then it's best to Trim loosely, leaving more material in each Clip, than is anticipated as being needed, and also not adding any Transitions yet. Once these two Exported Files are Imported into the master Project, the scenes can then be Trimmed (one would use the Razor/Scissors to cut and then Trim) to the final Duration and Transitions can be added. When cutting & Trimming here, do not forget those Handles.
The reason for holding onto the original Projects is that if one finds they HAVE Trimmed too tightly, the easiest way to "go back," is to just work in the child Project and Export/Share again.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • I am getting an error message -41 when I try to send my project to IDVD

I am getting and error message - 41 when i try to send my video project to IDVD. Does anyone know what i have to fix?

    Hi
The Error -41   mFulErr  Memory full (open) or file won't fit (load) - means that memory is full
Memory can be more than one thing
    • RAM - usually is enough and rarely give this error
    • Start-Up Hard disk - is TO FULL - very common origin to this signal
    • Other hard disks - Usually do not have any thing to do to this
So first idea is - HOW Much free space is there on Your Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
My minimum is 25Gb free space and especially if iDVD is to be used.
This space is needed by iDVD and Mac OS temp. files and can not be addressed elswhere. Has to be here.
Secondly - I never in any version of iMovie use - Share to iDVD - BUT I - Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD) this I import in iDVD and result are so much better.

  • Project Duration error message when loading short iDVD 5 project in iDVD 6

My iDVD 5 project is very short - a total of about 7 minutes (including video and an audio loop for the menu). The video clips were exported as DV NTSC non-self-contained quicktimes from Final Cut Pro.
When I attempt to load the project into iDVD 6, I get the following error message:
    Project duration
Your project exceeds the maximum content duration. To burn this project, remove some content.
Twirling down the triangle for more info gives:
    Project:
    - total project duration: -2147483648:-2147483648 minutes
    - total project capacity: 429496729 GB (max. available: 4.172 GB)
Also, trying to open the Project Info window crashes iDVD.
I haven't attempted burning, but I'm pretty sure it'd be a waste of a DVD.
My only thought is that iDVD 6 somehow is misreading the non-self-contained quicktimes, but I've never had an issue with them before, and it'd be a drag to redo all my projects with space-hogging self-contained versions.

Many people had trouble opening iDVD 5 projects in iDVD 6 when it first came out. My one iDVD 5 wouldn't open at all.

  • If there ever was a NEW update for iMovie, will iMovie have the ability to burn projects onto a Blu-Ray disc so that customers don't have to pay for additional software like Final Cut Pro or Roxio Toast Titanium/Pro?

It would be helpful for those who are familier with iMovie to use Blu-Ray discs for burning and playing back their iMovie projects in HD. However, iMovie '11 doesn't have that special feature yet. I hear that 'Final Cut Pro X,' 'Roxio Toast 11 Titanium' and 'Roxio Toast 11 Pro' can copy projects like iMovie onto Blu-Ray, but it would take long periods of time to do that. Professional software, like FCP X and Toast, can be pricey.
I'm hoping that iMovie '11 will burn projects onto Blu-Ray, but will that ever come true?

Will iBlu-Ray be an upgrade? OR and update of iDVD?
If it's an upgrade, then that means you'd still pay for it from the Mac App Store. I wish it would only cost between $20-40.
If it's a free update of iDVD, but with the new name, that would be better than to go out and pay for things!!!
However, external Blu-ray recorders would still be required if you were going to burn an iMovie project onto a blu-ray disc.
Is there a way to put in a request for 'iBlu-Ray?'

  • To project onto a large screen

Hi, I would like to be able to project my photo slideshow on a large screen in an art gallery. What is the best way to save my file to do this. My photos are large at around 6000x4000, however they are all horizontal. The show itself is only around 8 mins long. Thanks

    emmas
The information that we are going to have to coordinate
Premiere Elements 13/13.1 or Elements Organizer 13/13.1 for creating slideshow file for projecting on large screen.....
    a. Premiere Elements 13/13.1 Editor Timeline content to produce the slideshow as a AVCHD.mp4 file (1920 x 1080p25), transitions, effects, no menus.
    or
    b. Elements Organizer 13/13.1 Slideshow Builder Slideshow with one of five possible themes for export as 720p or 1080p (AVCHD.mp4 file)...no menus.
Elements Organizer Help | Create slideshows
As far as I can tell that Elements Organizer Slideshow is only at 30 progressive frames per second. We cab discuss that later if necessary.
Either way, we need to start by knowing how many photos and the pixel dimensions and frame aspect ratio of each.
We know there will be between 90 to 100 photos. What is the pixel dimensions of each (width in pixels x height in pixels)? If the pixel dimensions are way over 1920 x 1080 16:9, then you may have to crop resize or resize them to 1920 x 1080 16:9 - depends on your computer resources and see Note.
Note: If the photos have a 3:2 or 4:3 frame aspect ratio, then you may have to crop resize to 16:9 1920 x 1080. If you have photos with 16:9 frame
aspect ratio, then you just resize. to 1920 x 1080.
If you use "a", your export will be
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p25
If you use "b", after you build the slideshow, then you export as 720p or 1080p file to computer hard drive.
The Computer Player and the Projector
I am not sure if you will have a projector available to you or whether you will have to purchase one on your own.
Connections, resolution, etc of the protector may force the modification of the file creation. If your file has a higher resolution
than the native resolution of the project, an automatic scaling may occur for example from 1920 x 1080 to 1280 x 720. As
talked about in this older article on projector native resolution and maximum resolution.
    http://www.projectorcentral.com/maximum_resolution.htm
Often you will see the recommendation to match the native resolution of the projector with the resolution of the file being
projected onto your screen...reason to avoid the automatic scaling and possibly less clear viewing.
Once we get more information on the projector, we can decide whether to go for a Premiere Elements 1280 x 720 16:9 slideshow
    or 1920 x 1080 16:9 slideshow or other.
If you can do a private mini test run with the equipment that you will be using before the actual showing, good idea.
    Just some thoughts for now.

  • Low quality of burned DVD even if I drag&drop iMovie project into iDVD

    Hi all,
I've a iMovie HD project that I want to burn via iDVD (7.0.4).
If I click "Share with iDVD" the quality of the resultung video (which is burned to DVD) is rather poor. As I've read within this discussions, the preferred way is to close iMovie and "drag and drop" the iMovie project into iDVD.
With this way, iDVD (instead of iMovie) will render the movie, which should give a video with far more quality.
Unfortunately, the burned DVD with the "drag and drop" method has the same low quality as the video with "Share with iDVD".
I've done a little research and noticed that the "shared movie" for iDVD (iMovie project->Show package Contents->Shared Movies->iDVD) for a 1:10 video has a filesize of only 32kb!
Is there any way to set the "export" parameters for this "shared movie" (it is a quicktime file)?
The quality of the completed DVD is acceptable if I export the iMovie project to "DV stream" an import this stream into iDVD. But in this case I lose all my chapter markers of the movie ..
Is there any way to export the movie from iMovie HD and keep all the chapter markers for iDVD?
Importing the iMovie HD project into iMovie 08/09 is not an option, as I lose the chapter markers also ..
    Thanks in advice,
    Kind regards.

    Hi,
the iMovie project was created as "DV" project and I imported DV PAL clips. The iDVD preferences are also PAL (25fps) and the quality setting is "professional quality".
I've also tried the setting "best performance" within iDVD (as suggested within this forum), but with the same poor result.
I can see within the iDVD "project info" that iDVD will use "mymovie.mov" within the "Shared Movies->iDVD" of the iMovie project (Show package contents).
As this converted movie is of low quality, I think this is the root of evil.
If I export the movie from iMovie with "Export as DV stream" and import this converted movie into iDVD the quality is ok - but I lose the chapter markers ..
Is there any way to keep the chapter markers?
    Kind regards.
