Combining and Editing Sound in Titles Clip

Okay, now that I actually managed to capture the sound I wanted from my camera to my computer I am unable to find anything in the iMovie tutorial that explains how to get the sound and titles together AT ALL, much less exactly the way I want. How do you edit sound to coordinate it with picture? For instance:
1. Because of the nature of the capture device, I had to capture sound at the beginning and end of the clip that I didn't want to ensure I got ALL the sound I DID want. As a result, I want my opening titles sound to BEGIN at 1:23:28 and END at 1:59:17. I think the clip is almost exactly this length. If it's longer, and there's black screen/no sound for a few seconds at the end, FINE, but I don't want extra sound at the end of the audio clip spilling over onto the picture (titles). So how do I make sure that JUST this part of the clip ends up on the titles without recapturing it trying to cut it closer, and
2. How do I get the sound to play at the same time, in the same clip as the titles, at all? What is the exact process of putting picture and sound together?

Although I can't find anything about combining picture and sound in the iMovie Tutorial, I did find something about shortening clips:
Keeping Only the Parts You Want
Edit clips in the timeline view
1. Click the Timeline Viewer button in the iMovie window.
2. Select a clip from the iMovie timeline.
3. Move your pointer to near the end of the clip and notice the pointer change to two arrows. This means you can trim your clip.
4. Drag your pointer toward the center of the clip and notice that the duration of your clip shortens as you move further to the left. You can see the new ending point in the clip viewer.
5. Stop dragging when you find exactly the frame you want to end your clip. Notice the right edge of your clip now displays a straight edge rather than rounded corners indicating an edit has been made.
6. If you change your mind and want to restore the clip to a longer duration, simply drag the edge to the right.
7. Repeat this process with the other end of the clip.
8. Save your iMovie project.
I don't see why in the world this wouldn't work just as well for a sound-only clip as a picture-and-sound clip. The only way I see of getting the out-of-sequence ones I want in the order I want is to either duplicate the clip and then shorten both clips, or delete the existing clip and recapture it as two clips--then shorten each to the length I want and somehow run them together in sequence. (Copying it into two clips would be faster and easier for me, but is it possible and does it make a difference?)
What I don't know is how to make it understand to put the three clips (these two shortened ones and the third I want to follow it) into ONE sound sequence, and then make it understand to run THAT sequence with the closing titles! How do I get each sound clip together with each other, then make it run together with each title clip I want? This has me at a loss. It would REALLY help if I could do this like TODAY! I will be DEEPLY GREATFUL to whoever can offer a CLUE!

How can I export a small iMovie 9 project for someone else using iMovie 9 in a way that they will be able to edit all the separate clips and audio?

I've tried simply copying the project - but of course, that no longer contains the separate clips and audio used to create the project. Is there some export function I'm missing - or do I need to just gather up the clips and audio used in the project myself and send those?

You need to export your project via the Share command.
Share > Export Movie.... (or Share > Export using QuickTime).
That will render your project (combine and set all the events, stills, audio etc).
When completed you can then take that exported file and import it into iMovie on another computer (or back into your own) as a new Event.
You can then start a new project, load that event file and continue editing.

more efficiently view and edit page title tags.
Is there any way to have a view which shows the file names
AND the title tags? Is there a way to edit title tags using such a

back up your site.
open your site in dw, open any page in question and do a ctrl
f .
you will have a find a replace window pop up
the "find in menu" select "Entire current local site"
paste <title>Untitled Document</title> inside the
FIND area or what ever you
have there that needs to be changed throught out your site.
it the replace window paste <title>guinness or what
ever</title>
then by clicking replace all, all reference to
<title>Untitled
Document</title> in your current local site will be

Combining original and edited versions of photos?

Is there some way to "combine" photos in iPhoto such that edits I've made outside of iPhoto register as modified versions of the original images? (I only started using iPhoto last year, but I have original and edited versions of photos from before then. The same happens if I take a photo on my iPhone and edit it via an app before importing it to iPhoto.)

Well, I have gotten one thing to work: "edit" the original photo, save it without changes, open that file (under the Modified/ folder in my iPhoto Library), copy the modified file into that location, delete the "modified" photo and rename the actual modified file to that name, and then iPhoto sees it.
Lot of work though…

NEVER make any changes to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder - doing so carries a very high risk of corrupting your library and causing loss of data and possibly photos
The only safe way is to export the edited photo(s) and then import back to iPhoto and delete the old unedited photos using iPhoto - trying to do it with the finder as you are may work if you never make a mistake but it is VERY dangerous and should not be done

Trying to find out how to edit artwork, keywords, titles, and descriptions for my own video podcast that I have created for the iTunes store. My podcast shows on the first page in the itunes store (podcasts) for "forex" "forex training" and "forex education" under the name "fastpips", however I can't seem to find out how to change the title, for each podcast, the description, and keywords. I also want to add artwork to my podcast. I know how to do it under options for my own iTunes on my personal computer, but don't know how to edit it for others to see in the store itself. Thanks so much for any advice. I have a similar question, I would like to edit the artwork for EACH episode in the podcast, as well as have one artwork for the entire podcast series. Any suggestions? This is a podcast that I've created -- I did the same thing for a TV Show where I was able to do custom artwork for each episode, but not one single artwork for the entire series. Does anyone have suggestions of how i should proceed?

Please help me with this urgent viewing and editing question for a long video clip.

Hi, I have never used this software before and when I imported a 2 hours and 12 minute video clip of my sister's wedding into the system and added it as one sequence into the program it would only allow me to watch and edit the first 2 minutes.
Why is that and how can I rectify this so that I can watch and edit the whole clip?
Also, can such a long video clip be edited by trimming it and creating transitions where I see fit?

The music clip at 50% and more sound

Hi ,
I bought a Audigy 2 value 3 weeks ago. Everything was ok untill i got files hanging in process from SB, probably the creative player. So i uninstalled everything: player and card driver just to make sure. I intalled it again update with web auto-update. I don't have the hanging problem again but the sounds start to clip at 50% of the wave fader with no EQ or FX in...
Before this problem and before the hanging files, i could put it to top lvl with EQ in without no clip.
I searched the knowledge base and this forum but no luck.
What should i do ? Install it all over again ?

hum... i forgot to disable the onboard sound device in bios. It's not clipping anymore, only when i push a bass frequency to the top. But i still doesn't know why the sound card is not able to handle what creative player can do with frequencies...

Why can I not convert a film clip from my Vivitar DVR 975HD? The conversion in black and no sound

I can open the clip recorded on the Vivitar in Windows Media Player.
I can open the clip converted in Adobe Media Encoder in Windows Media Player, but it's black and no sound.

Clips weren't updated after finalize a project and edit again

I finalized a project and edit it again. The new added clip won't be showed properly when play.
It is correct from the edit preview. I can see the updated or new added clips.
However, when I play it, the new added clip won't be shown, and it just repeat the last clip before the new added clip.
Even I tried to finalize the project again, it is still the same. Is it a bug or should I do anything before revise a finalized project? Please advise, thank you.

To delete video permanently from your hard disk:
Select the frames you want to remove from your source video, and then press Delete or click the Reject button in the iMovie toolbar.
If you’ve chosen to display all clips in your selected Events, a red line appears across the top of the rejected frames.
Choose File > “Move Rejected Clips to Trash.”
All the clips that you’ve rejected in any Event or project are queued to move to the Trash.
If you’re confident you know which clips you’ve previously rejected and you want to delete all of them, click “Move to Trash.”
The video is removed from your Events, but it’s still taking up space in the Trash.
Click the desktop or a Finder window to see the Finder menus, and then choose Finder > Empty Trash.
The video is permanently removed from your hard disk and its space is available for use.
To bring the remaining clips back into view, choose Favorites Only, “Favorites and Unmarked,” or All Clips from the Show pop-up menu below the Event Library.

Start movie with title clips while keeping background sound?

I have 4 to 5 title slides I want to show before the video kicks in. I want to start the audio from the video while the title slides are playing, and then when the title slides are done playing have my kids voices continue right on with the video.

OK Cutaway enables you to drag and drop video or slides or photos onto another video, etc.
You, on the other hand are just adding a title.
I would suggest that you make your title in Keynote, Powerpoint, or similar tool and then save it as a JPEG file. You can drag and drop that on the video clip.
Another thing you might try, but I haven't tried this myself, would be to make a still frame out of the title you created on a background in iMovie. Try moving your cursor to the title, then right-click/add freeze frame. Right-click on the freeze frame and select Reveal in Finder. You may see a JPG file that you can make a copy of. Then drag this copy and drop it on your video.

FCPX Project Render Settings - Can you edit in h.264 and Transcode/render only used clips on timeline to Prores during render?

I have a question on the PROJECT RENDER settings in FCP X. It’s seems to me that one could theoretically import and edit entirely with original h.264 video files without needing to Transcode to ProRes422. Once you’re done with your edit and want to get the added benefits of COLOR GRADING in ProRes422 color space, it seems that FCPX will automatically render your edit in ProRes422 according to these preferences. In that case, a color grade could be applied to the whole edit, and be automatically transcoded/rendered into ProRes 422 during the render process. After rendering, what would show up on the viewer and what would EXPORT would be the rendered Prores files and not the original h.264 files. This saves a lot of time and space of transcoding ALL your media, and in theory should enable you to edit NATIVE video formats like h.264, with automatic benefits of ProRes during render. I'm assuming the render may take longer because FCPX is having to convert h.264 video files to ProRes422 while rendering. This may be one drawback. But will you your color grade actually use the 4:2:0 color space of the h.264 native media, or will it utilize 4:2:2 color space, since the render files are set to render to ProRes422 ? Can anyone please confirm that this theory is correct and optimal for certain work flows?? Thanks!

Thanks Wild. That's what I thought - in that the render files would be converted to ProRes422 codec. So do you or anyone else think that there is an advantage to having the 4:2:0 original file be processed in a 4:2:2 color space?
Yes there is an advantage, any effects and grading will look better than in a 4:2:0 space.
Most professionals online seem to think so. Also - will rendering of heavy effects and color grading take longer using this method because it's having to convert h.264 media to ProRes during render?
Yes, it will definitely take longer.
Can anyone verify from a technical standpoint whether editing and color grading in this workflow will see the same benefits as having transcoded the h.264 media to ProRes in the first place?
Same benefits from a final product view point, you lose on rendering time though and if you have lots of effects things will seem slow as it will have render everytime from the h264 file rather than a Pro Res file for every change you make. This may be fine on a higher end mac but I'm sure just pummels an older lower end mac as to being almost useless.

How can I edit a black title frame?

I'm now just experimenting with 8 short clips, trying to learn something about editing. Instead of using any of the "fun" title frames in PrE10, I want black opening and closing title frames. I placed these frames in my movie with the place holder Add Text in the center. Even though I select the Add Text and try to replace it with the text I want, the Add Text remains. I've tried everything. Can someone give me a step-by-step way to insert and edit black opening and closing titles with white text.
One more thing. I bought a new HP computer (Windows 7, 8 RAM, 1TB hard disk) with PrE and Photoshop Elements preinstalled. I wonder if these are the full programs or just scaled down versions. In the control panel I see that PrE is 1.23 GB; Photoshop is 2.59 GB.

To get a black background in a Title, there are a couple of ways to achieve it.
If the Title is placed on the Timeline, with nothing below it, i.e. on Video Track 1, and nothing above it, the background will show black. What we see as "black" in the Titler, is really Transparent, but if there are no pixels below that Title, it WILL be black, when one Exports/Shares.
If there are videos below the Title, say a Video, or Still Image (Title would be on a higher Video Track), but we want the black to appear below the Text, blanking out the material below that Title, then we can first create Black Video (from the New Item button in the Project Panel - slightly different locations per versions of PrE), place that on Video Track 2, and the Title on Video Track 3. The Duration and placement of that Black Video would match up perfectly with the Title. Now, there will be black behind the Text, blanking out any Video below it. Another method would be to create a Filled Shape that fills the full Frame, and set its Fill to black. Then Text would be added in that same Title, above the black Filled Shape. This has the benefit of keeping both the black background and the Text in one Title, so only the placement and the Duration of the Title has to be considered - one does not have to adjust both the Black Video and the Title - they are combined into one Asset.
Now, if you are still seeing "Add Text," there are two issues, that I can think of to cause this:
When you went to edit that Template, you did NOT Select the Add Text placeholder, but instead, clicked with the Type Tool, and basically created a second Text Object, above that placeholder Text Object. You did not really edit the "Add Text."
You have two Titles, where one is the Template with the "Add Text" placeholder Text, and the other with the Text that you did edit.
When you open the Title Template into the Titler (the Title editor window), there are two ways to Select that "Add Text" placeholder Text. One can use the Selection Tool (the arrow), to click within the area of that placeholder Text. When you do, you will see a Bounding Box form around that Text Object, indicating that it has been Selected. From that point, one can make adjustments with the Handles on the Bounding Box, or they can then go to the Type Tool (the T), and edit the placeholder Text. The second is to use the Type Tool, and then click, or click+drag in the placeholder Text, to highlight all, or portions of that "Add Text" placeholder Text.
The first method is useful if, for instance, one needed to edit just a letter in existing Text, as it's usually easier to isolate that single character, or characters. OTOH, if one clicks in the correct spot, within the existing Text, with the Type Tool, a step is saved.

Note: Some of those tutorials are for Premiere Pro (mostly CS 6), so the look of the Titler WILL be different from those in PrE, and a very few functions might be demonstrated, but unavailable in PrE. However, the vast majority of the instructions rely on the general mechanics of Titler, and those are the same in all versions of Premiere - they might just look a bit different.
