Combining iTunes Data When Merging XP Profiles
Hello friends,
I'm doing some work on a friend's computer, and they want me to do some things that I've never done. I don't want to screw anything up, so I'd like a little guidance if possible.
One of the things they want me to do is turn two profiles into one. And the first thing I want to do is bring the iTunes stuff from one profile and put it in the other profile. I know I need to transfer all the apps and music. But what else do I need to transfer, if anything? For instance, what if anything should I do with the following files and folders? Or will they automatically be re-created after I've transferred the songs and apps and then opened iTunes?
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Music Library.xml
Previous iTunes Libraries (folder)
Also, are the iTunes Playlists stored in the My Playlists folder under My Music? Or somewhere else? And is merging profiles going to impact anything else I haven't mentioned?
Thank you for your help!
Hi ed2345,
Thank you for your reply. There are a couple things you said that I don't quite understand, for probably 2 reasons:
1. I have no experience with iTunes, and
2. I'm not sure that I was completely clear in my original post.
When I said that I am turning 2 profiles into one, I meant two XP profiles. So I have to bring all the iTunes stuff from one XP account to the other. I don't know what a library is or how to access it. I therefore don't know how to pick a "main library."
The other things you said that I don't understand are the following:
"Go to the second library, right-click any playlist you want, and use Export. Read the file thus exported into the first library, and it will re-create the playlist."
"After all the above is done, run Consolidate on the first library, and then discard all the extra files."
Thank you for your help, though! If you want to give it another shot, please feel free. If not, then I completely understand!

What steps to take to preserve iTunes data when reformatting computer?
I have iTunes for my iPhone and connected to an Apple TV and an AirPlay speaker. My computer, a Windows 7 machine, is getting glitchy and I want to reformat and reinstall the operating system.
I want to know what I should do to back up my Apple data before I reformat.
I don't have any itunes music purchases
I have some podcasts
I have some paid apps on the phone
My entire mp3 collection is stored on a separate drive, just linked to iTunes
What should I do to
Ensure that I have all of my apps and podcasts when I reinstall iTunes on my computer?
Preserve my phone backups that iTunes does?
Is there anything else I need to think about before reformatting?
Thanks!Do the same thing you would do with any other data you wish to preserve on the computer, back it up..
What works best for me is creating a complete image of the drive as it exists currently to an external drive. Then once the computer has been formated and reloaded I can put the content I want and need back on the new drive from the backup. The advantage is I know exactly where the data belongs based off that backup image. -
my iphone is stuck, it says connect to itunes, and when I aconnect it to my pc, my pc says restore data but everything will be erased and I don't wanna lose everything. please help me
If you have a graphic of iTunes and a cable displayed on your iDevice then it is in Recovery mode.
Check this to try an "exit"

Here is the order of what I did to my iPad:
1. A restrictions passcode was put on and we couldn't remember it. Despite numerous attempts at righting this, I couldn't. The iPad would not sync with any iTunes on any computer, Mac or PC.
2. I put a, 'use passcode after one minute' passcode on it and deliberately put in 10 wrong passcodes so it would disable the iPad. Now it still will not connect to any iTunes.
3. I connected to my iCloud account and removed the iPad from the cloud; it says it will erase all iPad data when it connects to the internet. I am fine with that, I need to know what to do now, though. iPad says, 'Connect to iTunes,' but it won't. Please help this amateur of all amateurs!!See iPhone DFU mode explained, and how to enter DFU mode.

I restored my phone on iTunes, but when I did, all my info deleted and now it's my sister's old data. I tried to go back on iTunes and restore, but my original data isn't even an option. How do I get my old data back?
Before you did the resotore Via itunes you should of made a Back-up of your Data. But to be honest, i don't think that you would be able to get that stuff back.. Sorry mate

i've jail break Iphone 3GS. i tried to restore setting (erasing all data and media) without connecting to computer/itunes. When it starts it freezes by showing apple logo only. what is the solution. please help me out. Here i don't have iphone service center too.
Although not illegal, Apple discourages a user from modifying the iPhone OS in any manner, including "jailbreaking". Apple feels so strongly about this that discussing methods to assist a user trying to either jailbreak or "unjailbreak" an iPhone are prohibited.

Contact itunes support -
I keep getting a message to contact itunes support when I try to make an in app purchase. What could be causing this issue? My credit card is up to date and in app purchases aren't restricted.
Have you tried contacting iTunes Support and asking them ? We are fellow users here on these forums, it could be due to a number of reasons, we won't know which one.
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption -
Is there a way to ensure that data has been wiped from my iphone 3g. It shows the "connect to itunes" screen when turned on.
That is how it appears brand new out of the box.

I bought a movie on iTunes and when it loads up I can only play the bonus features and not the actual film. The title screen is also glitched and merges with the scene selection. I don't think it downloaded properly. what can I do?
It happens sometimes. Delete the current copies, don't hide from iTunes in the cloud if prompted, close iTunes, reopen, download from iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
While downloading click the download icon at the top right and uncheck Enable simultaneous downloads. You may find it more reliable that way.
