Combining Sections

I have a newsletter in progress and I'm learning Pages as I go. But I can't seem to figure this out, I wonder if someone can help?
In making the newsletter I created multiple section breaks in order to create new blank pages within which I could work, inserting images and text boxes up to this point in time. So I have seperate pages with images on them, each divided by a section break. I want now to paste text into the document so that it will flow onto the pages I've already layed out with images. But since they are divided by section breaks, of course I assumed for this to be possible I now need to delete the section breaks, thereby hoping to combine my image-laden pages into one big section, where the text can flow from one to another page as appropriate. The images are fixed to their pages, so I assumed they'd stay there. But instead what happens when I delete a section break, is that an entire page—with all its images—gets deleted too.
Why is this?
Is there some way I can do what I'm trying to do?
Or am I left only with the option of pasting parts of the text bit by bit onto each page, forever seperated from themselves under pain of deleting already formatted pages if I want to have it all linked together?
Thanks,
--Rhys

I think it would have been better to use page breaks rather than section breaks. I just did a quick experiment. I created a 4-page document by putting a section break on each page & then I put a graphic on each page. I then tried two different ways to change the section breaks to page breaks. The first worked, the second did not.
This is best done with invisibles turned on. Because I can't find how to enter a section or page break using the keyboard, I had to copy & paste. I selected the symbol for section break in my document, opened the Find window (⌘F) & pasted it into the Find: field. Back in my document, I added a page break to the end, copied (or cut) it & then pasted into the Replace: field in the Find box. I clicked Replace All & the section breaks became page breaks & the graphics stayed where they should.
I tried putting my cursor at the beginning of my document & inserted a page break. This added another page as I expected. I then forward-deleted the first section break. Unfortunately, this removed the page & its graphic.
Had you used page breaks in the beginning you would have what I got after my first experiment. Of course, adding text that will flow over pages will push page breaks down, but the graphics will stay put. Just delete the extra page breaks as needed.

  • Finding in a Combined PDF file -- which PDF has each find

    I have created a combined file of some 20 PDF files. I now wish to find text across this combined file. I find these as expected and all  I see is the page number within the combined file. This is of no value to me. I would like to know how I display the individual PDF filename for each of my finds?

    If you've combined pages into a single PDF then the concept of "the individual PDF filename" doesn't mean anything anymore. The combined sections don't know where they came from.

  • Conditional Chart Title

    Is it possible to have part of the title of a chart be conditional? For example:
    <Title text="Term: {STRM_DESCR}, Class: {SUBJECT_DESCR} {CATALOG_NBR}, Section: {CLASS_SECTION}, Course Title: {DU_CRSE_TITLE} Combined Section:{SCTN_CMBN_DESCR}" visible="true" horizontalAlignment="CENTER">
    If the variable SCTN_CMBN_DESCR is blank or null, can the "Combined Section:" label that preceeds it be hidden?
    Thanks.

    First, it worked, and I thank you.
    Not that I am complaining BUT ...
    why doesn't the condition evaluate the region source query (below) and determine whether one row was returned.
    select e.ename, e.empno, e.sal, d.deptno
    from emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    and e.ename = :p1_ename
    To be honest, I tried the EXISTS attribute in region condtion, but did not add the select statement you sugggested in Expression 1. My approach was not working and I figured I had it all wrong.
    So, as instructed by your response, I set the condtion to EXISTS and added the folowing query in Expression 1 and it will conditionally display the region:
    select 1 from emp e where e.ename = :p1_ename
    Whyt does APEX make you put in two queries: one for the region source and one to evaluate whether the region should be conditional displayed?
    I am sure there is a good reason and I am just curious.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Playback of regions on one track...can I choose?

    After tracking into Logic, I often have multiple takes (regions) on one track. During the editing process I find the playback of multiple regions in one track quite confusing.
    If all regions are unmuted, Logic usually plays the region that's been recorded most recently. Occasionally it doesn't, it just picks one in the middle. I'm sure there's a rhyme and reason to this but I can't figure it out. The manual seems to offer no help on the subject...
    My question is - In a track with multiple regions recorded in the same time frame, is there a way for me to choose which regions I want to hear on play back?
    My workaround has been to mute all the regions I don't want to hear (very time consuming!) or to cut and paste regions into one and crossfade edit them together. This usually works but say I have one region I'm using for the whole song, and I want to hear an overdubbed region for each chorus, the only way to do it is to cut up the main recording and splice in the choruses or to cut and mute the choruses I don't need.
    This whole process would be soooo much easier if I could just make Logic realize that I want certain regions played at certain times. Anyone know of a way to do this?

    "Takes" is a valid recording term, it's just not a valid Logic concept - in other words, there is no such thing as a "take" in Logic.
    Recording takes is a standard term. But looking for the "Next Take" keyboard shortcut is fruitless, as "take" is not any actual concept in Logic.
    As far as the multitple tracks to one object, it's great for vocal comps. Let's say you have your vocal channel, with a bunch of plugins on it, compression, EQ, maybe reverb etc.
    You can track in cycle mode, with each cycle pass putting the next take (see?) onto a new track, but still playing back through the vocal channel.
    This way you can mute the channel, or mute/playback each different pass through, quickly comp a vocal from the different tracks and combine sections of them into your final comp, without having to select between different playlists - everything is visible and accessible on the arrange page, and you don't have to have multiple channels with the same plugins on, or resort to a bus.
    There are a whole variety of positive workflow issues, which I'm not going to retype here - if these workflow issues don't suit you and you want to work in a different way, that's fine. For me, I absolutely love it and can comp in Logic quicker than any other app - in fact I'm usually (partially) comping on the fly, while recording, when the situation allows it...

  • Document Outline Not Converting As Expected

    I have a word document with two levels of headings. The
    Flashpaper options "Include Outline" is checked. The problem is,
    Flashpaper is only including the first level heading, not the
    second one. Also, when you click on one of the headings in the
    flashpaper document, it links to a completely unrelated page in the
    document.

    I have resolved my Outline issues:
    1. When I create the FlashPaper document using the FlashPaper
    toolbar that is installed in Word, an outline is NOT created.
    However when I create the FlashPaper document using the FlashPaper
    menu command installed in Word, I DO get an outline (provided I
    have selected the Include Outline checkbox in the Options dialog
    box).
    2. As for outline links going to the wrong location, after a
    careful review of the Word document during which I replaced a page
    break immediately followed by a section break with a single
    combination section-page break, I was able to get the outline links
    accurate.
    My outline runs four levels deep.

    (1) You can import the parts into iMovie and combine them there as you would edit any other video.
    (2) Alternatively, here is how I do it in QuickTime:
    (a) Get & install (if you do not already have) QT Pro: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/
    (b) Open all four sections.
    (c) Make Section 2 the active file.
    (d) Use the QuickTime Player > Edit > Select All menu command.
    (e) Use the QuickTime Player > Edit > Copy menu command.
    (f) Make Section 1 the active file.
    (g) Drag the black insertion point marker to where you want to add Section 2.
      (probably at the end of the Section 1 file.)
    (h) Use the QuickTime Player > Edit > Paste menu command.
    (i) Repeat for other sections.
    (j) Save the newly combined Section 1 file before quitting QT Pro.
     (I do not know whether or how clips can be combined in the new QT X.)

  • Pages Spell Checking/ Profreading Problem

    Hi,
    I am working with several different documents,I am combining sections from various sources to create one new document. When I copy and paste information from one document to another the spell checking/proofreading function does not work on the new section pasted in. It works for the rest of the document, just not the new part.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Question asked and responded many times.
    The spell checker behavior is ruled by the language setting applying to the pieces of text.
    Given what you describe, I assumes that some pieces of text are set as "use oneLanguage" and others ar set to "none".
    You may check that in the Text Inspector, open the tab entitled "More" and look the setting of the menu item entitled "Language".
    If you grabbed some pieces of text from .txt files or from files coming from windowLand, it's not surprising if they don't have a language defined.

  • How to combine multiple Details section rows in my report

    Hello,
    I am currently creating a report which will display employee details, which includes first name, last name, home phone, cell phone and Email.
    I get my First Name and Last name from the "Employees" table but all other info is situated in the "CommunicationLinks" table.
    The tricky part which I am having issues with is the Home Phone, Cell Phone and Email are all under the same field in this table, the field is called "DisplayAs".
    These 2 tables are linked together by taking Employees.LinkID and linking it to CommunicationLinks.LinkIDParent, which are matching linkids.
    The only issue that I have, is for example, if you look at the screenshot provided, I have 5 details section that gets populated for the same employee.
    How can I combine all these 5 records to only one?
    The homephone, cellphone and email field have formulas created for them, the formula is as follow.
    This example below is for the HomePhone field, the others have different type assigned to them
    If {CommunicationLinks.Type} =1 then
    {CommunicationLinks.DisplayAs}
    else ""
    Homephone, Cellphone and Email are all different types but uses the same field "DisplayAs".
    I also tried creating a subreport for each of these fields but seems to give me the same results.
    Any help would be really appreciated.
    If you have any other questions please let me know. See attached screenshots for reference.
    Thank you in advanced.
    Jocelyn

    Easier way without working in SQL:
    1.  Group by a field that is unique to the employee.
    2.  Suppress the employee group header and the details sections.
    3.  Create a couple of formulas:
    {@ClearVariables}
    WhilePrintingRecords;
    StringVar HomePhone := "";
    StringVar CellPhone :="";
    StringVar Email := "";
    Put this formula in the employee group header - even though the section is suppressed, it will evaluate.
    {@SetVariables}
    WhilePrintingRecords;
    StringVar HomePhone;
    StringVar CellPhone;
    StringVar Email;
    if {CommunicationLinks.Type} =1 then
      HomePhone := {CommunicationLinks.DisplayAs};
    else if {CommunicationLinks.Type} = <type for cell> then
      CellPhone := {CommunicationLinks.DisplayAs};
    else if {CommunicationLinks.Type} = <type for email> then
      Email := "";
    Put this formula in the details section - it will evaluate even though the section is suppressed.
    {@HomePhone}
    WhilePrintingRecords;
    StringVar HomePhone
    (Do the same for Cell Phone and Email.  Note that there is no semi-colon at the end of this one!)
    Put these formulas and all of the rest of the employee data in one or more Employee group footer sections.

  • Transaction code to check warehouse stock with storage section combination

    Hello Gentalemen,
      Is there any transaction code to check the warehouse stock with combination of storage section in Warehouse Management?
        Please let me know.
    Thanks

    You can use LX02 or LX03. In the tool bar click the third button which will give you the dynamic inputs from LDB(click the storage bin drop down and click on storage section). You can provide the storage section there.

  • My colleague and I are working together (from separate MacBooks) to create an iBook for our students. We plan to work on sections separately and combine later. Must we use the SAME template to do so?

    My colleague and I are working together (from separate MacBooks) to create an iBook for our students. We plan to work on sections separately and combine later. Must we use the SAME template to do so?

    I'm not sure iBA reacts well to this type of editing, not to mention the cumbersome nature of trying to bring everything together in general.
    I'd suggest a workflow where one book is handed off, instead. That, or, let the individuals involved create their basic content in Pages, then when ready, use iBA's Insert Pages Chapters menu to string them together. Best to work in a linear fashion and avoid adding/removing/adding/moving portions, etc.
    If you must have separate authors, be sure to use the identical template and have them all properly trained up before going forward - trying this as a learning experience may result in an off-putting experience otherwise , with more time spent on chasing knots than on expressing writing skills, etc.

  • Personalization to hide tabs on Asg section of Combined Per&Asg form

    Hi
    I have a requirement to hide several tabs on both the person form and the asg form of the Combined Per&Asg form in Oracle.
    I am doing the same functionality for both - basically finding the tab and setting 'Displayed' to 'FALSE'.
    For any tabs on the Person screen, this is working perfectly, however the personalizations are not taking effect in the Asg screen.
    When I go into the Asg screen the tabs are still there as if the personalization hasn't fired.
    If I then go into the personalization and click 'Apply' it hides the tab but obviously I can't have the users doing this.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
    May be the event that you select is really not firing.
    Select HELP >> DIAGNOSTICS >> CUSTOM CODE >> SHOW CUSTOM EVENTS
    this will show up the events that will fire with each action you take
    use the one that fire in the moment you want to be the personalization event.

  • How to combine web.config section encryption and the usage of WebConfigModification

    Hi,
    I have a question about encrypting web.config section that are shared across solutions which might use WebConfigModifications to change the SharePoint web.config.
    Currently, I've embedded custom assemblies in my SharePoint solution. These assemblies read configuration items from the web.config so we need elements in the SharePoint web.config. We added those using the WebConfigModification class. No problem
    so far.
    Additionally, we want to encrypt specific sections, because they contain sensitive information. I tested this and encrypted the specific section. SharePoint still worked and my solution still worked. Still no problem so far.
    However, when I deactivate features that need to remove entries from that specific encrypted configuration section, the entries are not removed. Also, when I activate features that need to add entries to that specific encrypted configuration section, the
    entries are added within the section, but besides the encrypted content in that section. In the last case, SharePoint crashes complaining about invalid configuration. Makes sense, since entries exist twice (once encrypted, once unencrypted).
    Now we can tackle this issue when it's about sections are specifically created for our application/assemblies, but what if this is about section that are also used by other assemblies/solutions, say "connectionStrings" or "appSettings".
    Other SharePoint solutions might want to make changes to these sections as well using the WebConfigModification class. Those assemblies might not be able to deal with encrypted sections.
    Is there a way to deal with this issue, to be able to encrypt these 'shared' sections without other solutions generating a bunch of errors and crashing?
    Thanks in advance for any replies!
    Cheers,
    Ruud Hunnekens.

    Hi Ruud Hunnekens,
    From your description have you tried to first decrypt the section of the web.config file before removing the section nodes. In the feature activated event, add the section nodes and encrypt the section, then in the feature deactivated event, decrypted the
    section, then delete the nodes, check whether this works.

  • Is combining of attributes possible in add user by attribute section

    The business users have identified when creating user groups they need to identify a specific set of users to
    place in the user groups. The idea was to take custom attribute as a filtering
    method. It appears that when using the "ADD BY ATTRIBUTE" feature in Ilearning
    it treats the attributes with the condition of "OR" and not "AND" i.e ( see
    supporting document) we two attributes city code and job code. We need to be
    able for ilearning to say , include all users that have a city code 'X' AND and
    job code 'Y'. Currently we are experiencing the application utilizing an OR
    statment city code 'X' OR job code 'Y'.
    Is this intended functionality?
    If so is there a upgrade realease to include an AND statement?
    Is there a current solution to this issue , if not has there been a proposed one or what have
    other companies done as well?

    User Group and Enrollment conditions currently only support OR conditions and this is intended functionality. There is an existing enhancement request to support AND functionality.
    One typical workaround today is to create a single custom attribute that stores the combinations

  • Mod_jk in combination with mod_rewrite

    My question is wtf doesn't this work?
    I'm using apache 1.3.27 and jboss-3.0.4_tomcat-4.1.12
    mod_jk works fine. I tried adding in mod_rewrite and now when I go to a page that gets rewritten, the mod_jk doesn't SEE the new URI. Instead, it still uses the old URI. IS THIS PROBLEM NOT FIXED IN TOMCAT-4.1.12?? That's the only explanation I can think of. I have tried putting mod_jk before mod_rewrite and vice-versa. Here's another question...... when people say to put mod_jk before mod_rewrite in the httpd.conf file, do they mean put the entire set of directives before, or just the LoadModule statement? I've tried several ways.
    Anyway, here is my httpd.conf file. Any suggestions to get this far-more-painful-than-it-needs-to-be process working? Is it a Servlet 2.2 requirement that these configs be hard to use?

    # The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
    # server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
    # <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
    # any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
    # All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
    # in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
    # virtual host being defined.
    # If your ServerType directive (set earlier in the 'Global Environment'
    # section) is set to "inetd", the next few directives don't have any
    # effect since their settings are defined by the inetd configuration.
