Combining several movie(.avi) files?

Isthere a way within iPhoto 09 to combine several movie files into one file? I have several short movies of our horses playing that I would like to edit (cut and paste) into one coherent movie. Can this be done within iPhoto? If not, what seems to you to be the simplest way to do this?

Duh. Sorry about that. Should have been obvious to me.
I do not find that iMovie will recognize .avi files. I tried every which way, but no go. I will look at QuickTime Pro.

Trying to move avi files from iPad - already deleted from my camera so not saved anywhere else

i stupidly imported movies from my camera directly onto my iPad and then deleted them from my camera. So now the AVI files are on my iPad but I can't view them on the device. And all of the apps I tried seem to use itunes to "locate" the files. This is not an option as I imported them straight to the iPad. iPad wont let me email these files to anywhere as I guess they are just not recognised. Can't access them via iCloud etc. Is there any way I can move these files from my iPad to a usable source?

They're probably also too big to e-mail. Video files are normally huge and e-mails often have a 10-25 meg per message limit. I have a 3 minute video that's 300 megs.
Have you looked to something like dropbox? Upload them there, download them to your computer? You'll need the dropbox app but it should work.
Also, do you have a PC? have you tried using windows explorer? If the videos are in your camera roll (not sure if they will be since you imported them) all you need to do is plug your iPad into a PC, ignore the open iTunes part and use 'my computer' and windows explorer to gain access to your iPad. Go to 'my computer' see if you can see your ipad, double cllick on it, you'll see a DCIM folder. Inside that will be a myriad of folders created by the iPad. My suggestion would be to just drag everything over then go through it and see if your AVI's are in there.

How do I move AVI files from iPhoto to an AVI player app?

I have transferred some files from an SD card on to my iPad. They're stored as AVI files in iPhoto but I can't get them to play. I've downloaded an app called Playable which can play AVI but don't know how to transfer the files in to the app.

Are you able to play them? If not and the fact that the Show File gets you nowhere indicates that those video files are missing from the hard drive. Download Find Any File and search for one of the avi files by full name including extension.

I am just getting started with Premiere Elements (12.0) and have what seems to me to be a very simple goal. I have several short ".mov" movies and would like to combine them into a single ".mov" movie. I have gone through the menus and can't find a way to do this. If someone would point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

There is no reason why you should not be able to export your Timeline content to a file with a .mov file extension with several choices for video compression.
From your details, I suspect I know the problem that has not surfaced until your latest post.
When you get to Publish+Share/Computer, there are several choices. Adobe Flash Video with one of its export f4v is a choice not the default for the exports under Publish+Share/Computer. The categories to select from under Publish+Share/Computer include, from top to bottom...

It is the QuickTime choice which will give you the exports with the .mov file extension. And, you can select from a large number of video codecs to go with the .mov file extension. But, to make that choice, you need to
(a) Have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer
(b) Use the scroll bar to the right of the list to get to the bottom of the list where you will find QuickTime.
Example for you to look at if you have not already...if your source is 1920 x 1080p24...
Then

Export
Publish+Share
Computer
QuickTime
with Presets = NTSC DV 16L9
then, under the Advanced Button/Video Tab, customize the Export Settings...See screenshot below
Leave the Bitrate Settings without the check mark next to "Limit Data Rate to" for this first run.
Depending on the file size of the export, next time we can type a specific data rate value in that field.

Is it possible to combine several system database files?

I am doing some practice runs where I am upgrading our 11i/EBS instance's rdbms from 9208 (9iR2 to 11201 (11gR2), and then OATM for the apps tablespaces. OATM is kind of cool in that it combines all of the small app tablespaces into many few files -- can I do the same with the SYSTEM data files for this database, either before or after the db upgrade or OATM? I currently have 11 1G system files which I'd like to combine into say 3 4GB system data files, or 2 6GB system data files. Is there an OATM-like utility to do this? BTW I will also be "going live" by cloning prod to a new system, and then making the new system the live on, so I suppose I could do an export or import in the process if it is the only way...

Combine Several Movies on One DVD with iDVD?

I have a couple of slide shows I made in iMovie, and I have a DVD that has a video_ts file on it. Can I put the two slide shows and the video_ts movie all on one DVD as long as there is room? I so, I would need 3 menu choices. Can I do this with iDVD?

Here's how to do it with Toast 8. Insert the DVD that has the existing video (or place the VIDEO-TS folder on the desktop if it's on the hard drive rather than on a disc). Choose DVD video as the format in the Toast Video window. Choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser. Double click on what appears in the browser. You'll see a thumbnail image of each title on the source DVD (which may be only one title in your case. Select the title you want and drag it to the video window. Toast then extracts the MPEG video file from the DVD or VIDEO_TS folder and writes it to the Roxio Converted Items folder.
Now add your other videos. You probably can use the Media Browser for this as well by choosing Movies with the top button.
Arrange the titles the way you want in the Video window. Click on the thumbnail to scroll to the image you want to appear in the Toast menu. Edit the text the way you want it to appear and select the menu style and how you want the DVD to play (do you want it to go to the menu first or auto play the first title; do you want the titles to automatically play one after the other or go back to the menu).
I suggest choosing Save as Disc Image from the File menu when you think you have it the way you want. When the disc image is finished, mount it and preview it using DVD Player. If all is good, burn the disc image file using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window. If it isn't what you want, continue to refine it in the Video window and choose Save as Disc Image again.
By the way, Toast automatically empties the Converted Items folder when quitting unless you change that in Toast Preferences. You don't want that folder emptied until you have your final DVD.

Unable to move .avi files in a folder to my external seagate hard drive

please help me! whenever i try to do so, it consistently says "cannot move _, an error has occurred (error code -50)" or "the item ___ is in use" even though nothing is open but the finder! help me out here, please.

The good news is there is finally a hard drive copying mechanism that requires no computer!
You will need to remove the hard drive from its external case and put it in that mechanism, but at least it will solve your file copying issues.

That's just something to keep in back of your mind should you end up getting a new drive.
Since the drive is USB, it likely is getting hung by other USB devices on your system. Go to Apple menu -> About This Mac -> More Info, and select USB.
Make sure the hard drive is not on the same bus as other devices. Every single item on the same bus can slow down the hard drive.

How to combine several .MOV's into a single .MOV video?

Hi all,
I want to make a video xmas card for one of my friends. I would like to film several little tid-bits of myself in different places saying random stupidities but would like her to receive it in only one video instead of several.
I use a basic digital camera that has video. When I transfer the videos to my mac, they come out in .MOV format.
HOw do I stitch all of these together?
I hope I dont need to buy something!

Combining .avi files

Is there a way in DVD studio pro or any other mac app where I can combine two separate .avi files so they both play from one individual file? I have a movie file that has been separated into two different files and I wish to burn them to one dvd.

My video files are now playing, however I never compressed any audio files because I don't know to make individual audio files from the original .avi file. I believe the term is demuxing? I only compressed the .avi files to .m2v file types.
Pretty much I'm not sure how to get compressor to make me the necesssary ac3 files i need to import into DVDSP.

Frontrow movie covers and avi-files problems

I have a problem with the movie covers in Fontrow.
I have placed every avi-file in a separate catalogue, and named the catalogue after the movie. I have also placed the movie cover in the same catalogue(preview.jpg). And when I scroll down the list of movie covers in Frontrow everything looks ok... But when I scroll back up again, the movie covers are changed to the first frame of the movie
To get back to the covers I must re-start Frontrow,and everythins looks ok, but as soon as I scroll back up again Im back to the first frame of the movie.
Is there something I can do to have Frontrow ignoring the first frame in the avi-file and always show the preview.jpg??

Frontrow alternates (5 sec) between "preview.jpg" and the "movie.avi" file.

Avi file imports into Premiere CS5.5 but not CS6

I'm trying to move a project from CS5.5 to CS6. I have several SD avi files that CS6 says can't be imported because they're "damaged or un-supported". After several experiments I found -
1) The existing CS5.5 project works fine.
2) A new CS5.5 project can import the files that fail in CS6.
3) The files play fine in Windows Media Player.
4) Removing Media Cache and Preview files had no effect on the issue.
I'm running Premiere 6.0.3 (most recent Cloud version) on 64-bit Windows 7.

Exactly what is inside the files?

Converting .avi files on a mac

Hi, I've had my new macbook air 13', 128 gb flash, core i5 for about two weeks, and recently I ordered a new external hard drive. I just transfered alot of movies (.avi files) from my windows computer, and I tried to open these files on my air, but I can't make it work. Before I start downloading alot of converting programs, I'd like to ask, which is the best and easiest program to do this?

Basically you have two choices. You can get fast and just OK conversions using Elgato's Turbo 264.HD hardware/software combination or you can get very good but slower conversions using Handbrake. I have tried many other methods and those two are the best I've found. The Turbo for speed, but not necessarily the best conversion quality and Handbrake for excellent conversion quality but it takes a bit longer.
Preferring the higher quality I do my conversions using Handbrake on my Oct-2010 27" iMac i7--it takes about 1.7x compared to the turbo hardware--and I always let the conversions run overnight. I've given my Turbo 264.HD to Goodwill.

AVI files - Search results different from Smart Album

I've noticed that when I use the iPhoto Search to filter all movies (.AVI files) that all my clips come up (eg. 700 clips in 2007). However, with a Smart Album I have set up to display the .AVI files, the last several weeks of clips seem to be missing (eg. 630 clips from the 2007 album). I've checked all the Smart Album criteria and they are correct. Is this a glitch in iPhoto or is there some other explanation?

Two possibilities:
1. There's something different in the later files that don't match the criteria of the search
or
2. Spotlight (as it is this that indexes the Library) is not working correctly. Try opening the Spotlight Preference Pane and go to the Privacy section. Drag the Pictures Folder in there, leave it a few moments and then drag it out again. This should force Spotlight to re-index the Folder.

Can't Import large .avi file from digital camera into iPhoto 08

I have a digital camera with a 4GB SD card. I was shooting video and have several small .avi files on the card and one large .avi file (2.67 GB) on the same card. I did not have a problem importing the small files. iPhoto hung while trying to import the large file. I read in this forum that I should use Image Capture, which I tried. When I used Image Capture on the smaller files (just to see how it worked), my camera would flash while it was transferring. When I tried Image Capture on the large file, the camera did not flash and after about 20 minutes, there didn't seem to be anything going on with the transfer. I also tried an old card reader through Image Capture, and that didn't work either. Should Image Capture be able to handle this size file? Do you know of any way to break up the large file into smaller files on the SD card? What am I missing? Thanks!

Canon's cameras do not mount on the Desktop. It's a 'feature' of the brand.
There are several possibilities for Image Capture - including minor directory damage on the card etc. The only solution is get the card to mount, and that means a recent Card Reader.

Hello there,
*.avi files are not supported by the iPod at this time. However, one option is to convert them to an iPod compatible format using a third party application such as [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> or [Handbrake|http://handbrake.fr>.
Once you have converted the files and imported them into iTunes, try syncing them to your iPod by enabling your iPod to sync all videos (or however you wish to set video syncing) under the Videos tab for your iPod in iTunes.
