Combining songs to same album

When itunes transferred my music it took some albums and split the songs up and made it into several albums. Unfortunately itunes Help tutorial is of absolutely no help on any issue I have. Sorry itunes but I don't have a masters degree in computers. Can I combine the songs back to one album and if so how?

hi terry,
having a splitted album is always related to songs having different "album information". each song have information related to themself, like its title, and information related to the album it's belong to, like the album name.
first, it is possible that your issue is related to the fact that you album is a compilation of several different artists (this let iTunes beleives they are songs from differents artists having named their album with the same title). If that's the case, you will need to select all the songs of your album and then click CTRL-I to bring up the Info tab. there, set the Compilation to YES. (if it's a tribute to a specific artist made by several artists, you can also add the main artist name in the "Album Artist" field.)
second, it is possible that your songs have "album information" slightly differing from each other. once you have selected them all and clicked CTRL-I, look if there is any "album related fields" that are not showing up. if for exemple the Album name does not show up when you do a CTRL-I on a selection of multiple songs, it is because something is different in at least one song. "Album information" are "Artist" or "Album Artist", "Album name", "Year", total number of track, disc number and total number of discs. So be sure they are all the same because this will split the album.
this article explains all of this very well; http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304389

  • Combining songs into one album

I previously imported music from my Music CD Soundtrack: Forrest Gump (has multiple disks) while I was on a Windows platform (not sure if that will matter considering my issue, but wanted to give that info.)
Now, I've imported all my music on to my recently purchased MacBook. I had the same issue on my Windows iTunes, but never resolved it.
I have, let's say 20 songs I selected from the soundtrack, but, they have placed them in different albums. Consequently, only a few have found the artwork to go with the album. I tried switching the album name to the same album name that had artwork. I tried dragging those songs to the album with artwork.
Still, I cannot combine all the songs under one album. If I wanted to play all the songs from my Forrest Gump soundtrack, I'd have to go to about 10 different albums, and, as I said before, I could not get artwork for a majority of the songs.
What do I need to do to combine these songs all under one album (FYI: for some reason the two artworks I did get downloaded, were actually two different covers, one correct and one that was still a Forrest Gump cover, but a different one than I had on my original CD).

If this is a compilation album where you have many artists on one album then you probably need to toggle the compilation checkbox at the bottom of the Get Info window for the tracks on the album. Highlight all the tracks, Get Info, then check the compilation box says yes.

  • Songs from same album not listing as within one album

Okay, here's a problem that's kind of strange. I already owned an album, bought on CD, that I have imported into iTunes. I later wanted to make one of the songs into a ringtone for the iPhone, which you can only do with stuff bought from iTunes, so I purchased the song, figuring I would just add it into the album. I changed all of the information to be the exact same between the ones I'd imported and this song from iTunes, and it sorts correctly when sorted by "Artist," but if sorted by "Album by Artist," it moves the downloaded song to being from another album, though it's the exact same, and it Coverflow it also lists them as two seperate albums though they are not.
Is there a way to get iTunes to recognize that these tracks are from the same album or is this just an anoyance I will have to deal with?
    Thanks.

In short, there are two possibilities: either you didn't actually get the information identical, or iTunes is slightly confused. Both happen to me pretty regularly.
If you have iTunes keeping your music organized, there's an easy check: pick one of the songs, right click, select Show In Finder. Is your new purchased song in the same folder as the CD you imported? If not, the information is definitely different. The most recent time this happened to me, the imported CD had the "Compilation" box checked.
Next thing: select all of the songs from the album - the imported CD and the purchased song. Right click one of them, select Get Info (or choose Get Info from the File menu). The artist, album artist (if there is one), and the album title, should all be showing. If not, it means that one of those values isn't actually the same for all the tracks.
After that's all fixed up, it's time to blame iTunes. In that case, make a small change to the artist, album artist, and album name. I just add an X to the end of the name. Click OK, and hopefully now the tracks will all be grouped the way you expect. Get Info again and put the names back the way they belong.
    Good luck!

  • Songs from same album splitting into seperate albums

I have had this problem a few times and have been able to work through it, until now. I have ripped albums onto itunes and had themshow up as 2 or 3 different albums of the same name on in the album art viewer on itunes. Last night I did a Trans-Siberian orchestra album and it did the same thing. I would select all the songs and change the album name to the same one on the ID3 tag, but they would still show as 2 albums- both named the same. It would put 13 songs in 1 album and 4 in another every time. I finally went in and named each info block except song title exactly the same and it finally seemed to take. I itunes i finally got it to show up as 1 album. Here's the catch-- when I exported it to Ipod the stupid thing split the songs up into 3 (!!) albums on the cover art viewer and listed them under the artist that way too. And each of the displayed albums are named EXACTLY the same- no difference in Caps or anything. Anyone have any Ideas?

The trailing space is the hardest to spot.
Best way to cure this is to go into iTunes, highlight that artist and/or songs, right click on them and select "get info".
This brings up the multiple song info window. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name.
If the above is not the issue, try this also. Highlight all the songs for that artist, right click on them and select "apply sort field/same artist".

That "dual" table is oracle specific though right?Right; don't expect a dual table in a non-Oracle database.
I know this an oracle forum, but just out of curiosity would there be a quick non-oracle way to do this as well?Other databases may have their own specific ways of doing something similar. In SQL Server (I believe) you can simply omit the FROM clause.
If all else fails, create your own 1-row table. You can call it dual, if you want to.
    CREATE TABLE  dual
    (   dummy   VARCHAR2 (1)
    INSERT INTO dual (dummy) VALUES ('X');
    COMMIT;
FULL OUTER JOIN doesn't use dual:
    SELECT     *
    FROM           (SELECT col1 FROM tblA WHERE col1 = 'val1') a
    FULL OUTER JOIN  (SELECT col2 FROM tblB WHERE col2 = 'val2') b  ON  1 = 1

    Added FULL OUTER JOIN

  • Duplicate albums but songs from same album

After updating iTunes and iPod, my albums with more than one song are now multipule albums with single songs in each album. Meaning Album (A) had 2 songs, now I have two of Album (A) with 1 song in each album.

See if this article helps - usually you need to make the *Album Artist* field be the same for all the songs, esp if there was a guest artist singing with the main artist. Such as, Kanye West Feat. T-Pain

  • Anyway to automatically relink random missing song files in iTunes library? Random songs have "!" while other songs in same album folder are fine.

I can manually relink a missing song by navigating to the album folder in my iTunes media folder where all of my music is stored, but there are hundreds of "missing" songs in my 100+ GB Library. Any way to get iTunes to reconcile the library in a more automated fashion? I am fearful of solutions that may introduce a ton of duplicates.
Would also like to know why this has happened so I can prevent it in future. Why are some songs in an album coming up missing and others in the same root folder playing fine?? It's not like my library is missing, 80% of my music is fine.
My MAC iTunes library is organized by iTunes and all new media is copied into the iTunes folder (which I have "living" on an external USB 500GB hard drive, which I sometimes use with my PC Laptop when I travel - I don't do this often and it has never caused a problem before.)

UPDATE: I contact the developer fo the iTunes Track CPR script just to give him some feedback. His reply, "
Thanks for letting me know. CPR needs a good looking at. But have you tried "Music Folder Files Not Added"?
    http://dougscripts.com/466"
I used that script and it found all of the MIA "missing" songs and then added them back to my iTunes library (took about 7 hours to auto add about 2000+ songs.) This process also created duplicates, but I was able to use the "Manage Duplicates" feature of iTunes under the File menu to see a list of all duplicates; then I deleted all of the songs with the"!" next to their names (took about 45 minutes.)
So I think in the end this did save me a lot of time and aggrevation.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction Chris!

  • Songs from same album not grouped together.

    Hello,
I just received a new ipod nano (the new ones) as a gift and all though i love it i am having some troubles with Itunes 7,
the first problem is that iTunes does not group some songs from the same album together, I made sure that all the album details are the same but still I tunes separates certain songs from the album, In case I am not clear here is a link to a screen shoot:
    http://img369.imageshack.us/img369/188/ssngtud2.jpg
As you can see some songs from System of a downs album "Steal this album" are arranged as separate songs, how can I change this?
    A second problem I have encountered is with compilation specifically with classical music, ITunes slashes the 10 track album into 10 separate songs, although I marked them all as a part of a compilation and set the preferences to display compilations, screen shots;
    http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/2387/ndctt6.jpg
    1. Is there any way ITunes can display these tracks together?
    2. If I move this album to my IPod (after setting it to display compilations) will it show them together as one album?
Thanks for your help in advance

For your first problem, make absolutely certain that there are no hidden spaces at the end of the Artist or Album fields. Also check track number of and disk number of fields. Finally, and this may be most likely, make sure that you use the same Album Artist for each song (blank, or System of a Down).
For the second issue, make sure all songs on the album are marked as "Part of a Compilation", then sort your library as "Album by Artist" (you may need to click the Album header a few times to see that). The Compilations will then be bumped to the bottom of your library. On your iPod, turn Compilations ON to see similar grouping of compilations.

  • Divided songs from same album.

    Hi there.
Just want to know if there is some kind to Magic Trick to solve issue with tracks of same album.
Ex. Album has 10 songs but they are displayed into 2 groups> 1 group from song 1 to 7 and the other from song 8 to 10 (I need to mentionate that they all had same info, no different Artist, Group artist or any other kind of info that could arrange it into those groups)
Hope there could be any help. Many thanks.

  • Why aren't songs with same album art grouped together?

Yes I know that in itunes help this comes up exatly.... but the method they give you doesnt work.
I was an album purchased from the itunes music store like cmon it ungrouped them its self!
So please help its driving me crazy having 20 songs in different places from the same album and stupid thing is it will rename everything "blank" but it wont add them to a compilation in get info for multiple items.

    Hi newobo,
So, you're saying that you tried to follow [this instructions|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1468] from Apple, but didn't work?
If so, try sorting the library by "Artist" or "Album". If you don't how to do this, just click once over the correspondent column located above the music list in your iTunes library!
Hope this helps! If you still have doubts or problems, please reply...

  • In artwork view (first icon left) same album's songs are separated

With a few albums itunes splits the songs in 2 or three "albums" as they were different albums, but are obviously the same.
Perhaps one first "album" with 8 songs, then a second with 2 and then a third with 1 song. Same album, same artwork.
The songs came from my CD collection.
Did anyone find out how to correct this strange behaviour?

  • A music album is listed multiple times in my library but each listing only has a few songs in it-not the full listing.  How can I combine them into one album and get rid of other duplicate listings?

Several music albums listed in my IPhone 5 music library are listed multiple times, but each one only has a portion of the songs listed.  How can I combine them to make one album?

First....Thank you so much for your prompt reply.  I am sorry for not getting back to you regarding your suggestion-I had computer issues that just got resolved.  Also, this is my first foray into online chat rooms so I have a lot to learn to precisely state my issue!  I did as you suggested and all the songs list the same album when I go into each song's "get info".  However, I am not sure how to edit as you suggested. When I downloaded this album originally, for some reason it broke up into several albums each with different songs from the original album.  I am trying to consolidate them back into one album in my library.  I would greatly appreciate further assistance if you can.  Also, I do not use "the cloud" to store any data and would like a good source of info on how to do this.  Thanks so much for your patience!

  • When I put a song from the internet into an album with bought songs, it doesn't show the artwork for the added song. How do I get it to have the same artwork as all the other songs in the album?

If that was confusing, I'll reexplain it:
S, I bought 2 Lil Jon Kings of Crunk songs from itunes that were on the same album. The album was clean with no explicit sign on the artwork. Prior to buying those songs, before I had money in itunes, I got a song from that album from youtube, and I didn't put in "- clean" in the album name of that song. So, yesterday, I combined those 3 songs into just one clean album (the youtube song was clean also). Now, the 2 bought songs have the artwork without the explicit sign, but the youtube song has no artwork at all anymore. How can I make them share the same artwork?

Drag the artwork from the artwork window to the desktop.  Then, select the song without artwork and drag the artwork to the blank artwork window.

Select all the songs from the album, choose File--> Get Info, then under the Album area, type in the appropriate album title.  They should all appear under one album at that point.
