Combining two Aperture 3 libraries in 10.3 Photos

I converted an Aperture 3 library to 10.3 Photos and uploaded to iCloud. I'd now like to import and merge a second library. The only advice I can find online is to combine libraries in Aperture before putting them in Photos. This can't be right. But if it is, how do I get back to square one, so I can even do this?
Thanks.

OK I think I see the confusion.
The section. Creating Vaults, is discussing the strategy for backing up one library.
Before you can back up your files, you must create a vault and assign a hard disk to it. After you assign a disk to the vault, Aperture uses the vault to back up the entire library. You can create additional vaults and assign hard disks to them, and each additional vault also records a complete backup of the library.
(emphasis added)
So Apple is telling you here that you can have multiple vaults for a single library, something you may want to do to be extra safe as one backup is never enough especially with something as irreplaceable as digital images.
Then below is your excerpt
Important: To ensure preservation of your image assets, make sure to assign a separate external hard disk drive to each vault.
which is really addressing the issue of multiple vaults for a single library. What this is saying is if you make multiple vaults for a library having all those vaults on one disk is not going to really buy you anything.
To get the extra protection multiple vaults of a single library will give you each vault needs to be on a separate disk. Or else if the disk with all the vaults for this library goes then all the vaults are gone.
Hope this clears up the confusion.

  • Is There A Way To Combine Two Aperture Libraries

I copied my library from my G5 in the studio to my laptop and tried to work with it in the field but had trouble opening the G5 library. I had to continue, so I started a new library on the laptop. Now I need to combine the results of my field work with that in the studio. Can I do that and if so, how?

Is therre a way to combine books. I've been working on a large book in sections and it would be easier to do each section and then combine the sections into one book. Is that possible?

  • I created two Aperture libraries from one large library. Some of the photos in library

I created two Aperture libraries from one large library. Some of the photos I want to keep in library #2 are in the trash of library #1.  If I empty the trash of library #1, will it affect the same photos that were moved to library #2?  I moved over 2,000 photos to create library #2.  Their names are showing in the trash of library #1.

Are your images referenced or managed? If your partial libraries are referencing the same original files as the library you exported them from, be careful. Deleting the orignal on one library #1can delete it from the  library #2. But if your originals are managed by Aperture inside the Aperture library, you can delete them.
I moved over 2,000 photos to create library #2.  Their names are showing in the trash of library #1.
If you are not sure about referenced or managed, select one of the images you want to keep in the library where they are not in the Trash, then use the command "File > Show in Finder". If you can reveal them in the Finder, they are referenced and probably are shared between your libraries.
Or turn on "badge referenced files" in the Preferences > Appearance settings. Then your referenced images will show arrow badges.

  • I have two Aperture Libraries and would like to sync specific folders from both of them to my iPad.

I have two Aperture libraries stored on an external hard drive. Using iTunes on my Mac Book Pro can I sync selected projects from both Libraries to the same iPad?

No you cannot. Each device can only be synced with one photo library - Aperture or iPhoto.
You could however merge the two libraries, if you need to sync with photos from both libraries.

  • Can two Aperture libraries be merged?

I have two computers and want to combine my Aperture libraries. Can that be done?
    Thanks

    "File→Import→Library/Project"
Instructions are on this page in the User Manual.
After you merge one Library into another, use only the combined Library.

  • Combine / Join Aperture Libraries with possible duplicates

    Hi All,
I am still finding my way in aperture.
My MacBook was replaced and I have two Aperture Libraries, one from the old MacBook, and one from the loan MacBook, which I had for about a month.
When my new MacBook arrived the Aperutre Library file from my original MacBook was reloaded and I have worked with that for a few weeks, without the images I had on the loan MacBook.
So I have pictures all over the place and I am constantly exiting Aperture and renaming the Aperture Library name to try to find the files I want.
Is there a way I can import / join both Aperture Libraries together so I can review?
Is there a way in Aperture to identify duplicate Master images?
    Thanks
    Stuart

    Welcome to the forum.
There's currently no way to easily merge multiple Projects or Libraries, so unfortunately you've got yourself into a bit of a corner. You can combine the Libraries by exporting Projects from one Library and importing them into the other, but they will still be separate Projects (one with '(1)' at the end of the name). You would then need to go through the images and work out which is the most recent version.
There's also no easy way to find duplicates.

P.S. You can make feature requests at http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html if you want the Aperture team to know about it.

  • How do you combine two iTunes libraries - my husband I have separate iTunes libraries and want to combine our music

iTunes: my husband and I have two separate iTunes libaries and would like to combine them.  I have tried homesharing but as my laptop is not an Apple I can't seem to find advice online with Apple.
    Can anyone help.

iTunes- How to share music between different user accounts on a single computer
You cannot merge two separate libraries across user accounts. Photos does not have the function of merging different Photos.library files. If you have Aperture then you can merge the two before migrating over to Photos.

  • HT1229 How can i combine two iPhoto libraries together?

    Hi all,
I am just transferring all my music and photos new a new computer and have photos in two separate libraries. Is there an easy way to combine these?
One is a folder from pre '08 and the other is a package from post '08.
Any assistance would be great. Thanks

    Not really
You did not merge libraries - you now have one version of the photos in the old library with some (probably not all) metadata  - the only possible ways to actually merge iPhoto libraries is using Aperture or IPLM - exporting is not an option to merge libraries - it is a way to include a selected version of a photo in another library

  • Can I combine two iPhoto libraries?

Following on from my previous post - "Missing Photos" - (what an idiot I am).
I now have two iphoto libraries with approx 10% differing content, ie they have about 90% the same. The largest is around 36GB.
How do I combine the two libraries?
One way I guess, would be to dump the smaller into the larger, and then run a program to eliminate the duplicates.
(iPhoto only rejects duplicates with the same name, many of mine have been renamed.)
Or is there a better way?

You can use iPhoto Library Manager and it’s Merge feature.

  • How do I combine two different libraries into one?

I have three devices, one iphone and two ipods. How can I combine all three libraries into one single library. Is this possible?

Choose the library connected to the iPhone, import the media content from the other one/two libraries. DeDupe.
I've written a script called DeDuper which can help with the last bit. See this  thread for background.

  • Combine two itunes libraries thatare one on computer

I have two iTunes libraries that are on my computer (I use the shift button when opening to choose which one I want to open).  So since I have two (one for iPhone and one for iPod) the music in them is mismatched because I use my iPhone more often and downloaded songs get placed into that library.  My question is do I have to manually go through and find out which songs aren't in both libraries and import them or can I do this automatically? I don't want to merge them, I just want them to have the same music in them so I can just uncheck which ones I don't want to sync.  Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Drag the larger library to the external drive normally, launch iTunes with the Option key held down, choose it, drag the media files from the second library into the open iTunes application window, and then import the playlists.

  • Combining two music libraries on one iMac

Hi, I have about an 80 GB iTunes music library on my iMac.  My new wife has a library of about 130 GB which is currently on  an external hard drive.   I want to combine both libraries on one iTunes account on our iMac.  First, what is the best way to combine the two libraries into one big library in iTunes AND avoid having hundreds of duplicate albums and songs once they are combined in iTunes (we have the same taste in music)?  Thanks!

Combining them is easy but you will have to weed out the duplicates manually.
Boot iTunes (ideally on a second computer but you can do this on the main one) while holding the option key. You will be asked to select a library: choose your wife's.
Create a playlist. Drag all the songs you want to copy over to the playlist, avoiding the duplicates.
If you've done this on a second computer, now go to your main computer and open iTunes to this library in the same way. Create a folder on your Desktop, select the entire contents of the playlist and drag to this folder. Wait for it to copy.
Now boot iTunes while holding the option key again and choose your own Library. Drag the contents of the folder to your Music list.
If any of your wife's songs are 'Protected AACs' you will need to authorise your computer for her account as well. Go to the iTunes Store and log out. Log in with her account name and authorise the computer. You can log into either account to purchase.

  • Combining two IPhoto Libraries

I have studied various articles on this subject but not uncovered a solution.
What I want to achieve is to combine / merge two separate IPhoto libraries into one.
    I run OSX 10.6.2 and IPhoto 09.
If this is impossible which I think it may be, does anyone know if it's to be implemented in a future release of the ILife suite?.
Words of wisdom and insight on this would be most welcome.
My view is this feature should have been incorporated into the 09 edition.

The only way to do this is to use the Merge command in the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager.
does anyone know if it's to be implemented in a future release of the ILife suite?.
No one here knows what plans Apple has for the future. If they did the NDAs would prevent them from commenting.
My view is this feature should have been incorporated into the 09 edition.
Why the 09 edition? Not any of the others?
