Combining Two Apple Accounts

Not fully understanding how the DRM and user accounts work on ITUNES, when I received a second IPOD, I created a second ITUNES account and even put it on a second machine. Now, in order for me to have songs from my wife's IPOD, work on my IPOD, I have to copy the file and then log in using her ID to overcome the DRM which of course ups the machine count for her account.
My question is that if I want all my music on one machine, on one account, and then I'll sync multiple IPODs to that account, is there a way to "combine" the accounts so I don't have to remember what song was bought with which userid, etc and not have the machine counts artificially inflated on the music?

You only have to remember the password. When you play the song, if it is not authorized, the login screnn will pop up with the account filled in.
If you Get info on a song, you can see which account it was purchased with.

No, it doesn't.
Computer are authorized (by "iTunes Central") to play songs. Songs don't keep track of which/how many computers are authorized.
You cannot combine music from different iTunes accounts into one iTunes account.
As it stands, you will have to authorize songs from two different accounts (yours and the Mrs.).

Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one Apple ID to another. Apple does not merge Apple IDs. You will never be able to access your content bought with one Apple ID with a new Apple ID.

Were you able to reset the account's password ? If not then how did you try to get it reset e.g. http://iforgot.apple.com (which would have sent it to the rescue email address if you have one on that account) ? You can also try contacting iTunes Support in your country to get it reset : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5699
And no, accounts can't be merged nor content transferred between accounts.

Items purchased from the iTunes Store are permanently associated with the account from which they were originally purchased. Apple provides no way to change this.
However, if you wish to put content from two accounts into a single iTunes library, you can easily do so. Use the command File > Add File (or Folder) to Library.

Yes, you can change the Apple ID to which your phone is tied. Delete your existing iCloud address and provide the new one. Do the same for your email.

I've seen the responses on previous post (at least some of them) saying it is not necessary to combine two iTunes accounts. The solution is to authorize both accounts on all computers and you're fine. I disagree.
First, my wife and I have three iTunes accounts, because when she first signed up for MobleMe she was allowed to have a username that was not an email address. Then when iCloud came around, she was required to have a user name that was an email address. So she created a new one.
Here's the problem; we have bought media ( a lot of it) on three different accounts: her first one (non-email user name), her second one (email) and my account. We have purchased so much media that we cannot fit it all on any of the hard drives (lot os HD TV show, and movies). It is a pain in the rear to have to keep track of what movie is on what account when we want to login and download a prepurchased movie.
It was not our fault that Apple changed the login requirement for user names from non-email (and email) to strictly email only.
There should be a process for us to be able to at least combine my wife's two accounts.

Yes. You can sync multipl iDevices on the same computer using the same Apple ID. You can each have different configurations of apps, books, music, etc. or have identical configurations. In this way, however, your common data - contacts, mail, calendar will be the same on both iDevices.
The Apple ID doesn't distinguish one phone from another, only how the phone will sync to a computer. The Apple ID is how iTunes knows to which computer a phone syncs. And, the Apple ID determines who is the registered owner of downloaded and purchased items via iTunes.

Is it the case that you are using the @me.com ID for iCloud and the other one for iTunes?
You can't merge accounts or transfer iTunes purchases from one Apple ID to anothe : but there is no problem about using two IDs.
Use your ex-MobileMe email address (which is also an Apple ID) for iCloud for syncing email, contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and PhotoStream.
Use your other Apple ID as before for iTunes, iTunes in the Cloud and iTunes Match.
There's no conflict about doing this, and you won't even notice as Keychain will log you in with the correct ID in each case. It's also better security not to have your iTunes login also your email address, given the number of complaints about hacked iTunes accounts.

There is currently no way to merge accounts. The best option is to pick one, and use it consistantly.

Sorry; I've been away for a day or two so could not respond. I think the last post from ashlie covers your question. I don't use an iPhone so I know only basics about it. As I see that reply, you log in with the ID you dont want, then log out. Then log in with the second ID you do want and log out. That should leave you with the second ID as your ID and by never using the other one again the old ID will in effect go away.

I am not sure why but I have two apple accounts with two different email addresses. This is causing problems with iMessages not syncing over my devices because the different email addresses cause messages to be sent to different devices so I miss messages.
