Combining two tracks to play back-to-back???

I'm sure it's simple, but I can't figure it out! How do I make it so two tracks play back-to-back, even in a shuffle?

If you want to combine them at the time of ripping from CD, you can use the command Advanced > Join CD tracks.
But once you have them as separate tracks in your library, iTunes does not have a way to "glue" them together. However, you can use an audio editor such as Audacity to make them into a single track.

How can I can combine two tracks so that they always play together even when I shuffle the tracks? An example is Jackson Browne's "Loadout" and "Stay".

You can acheive this by making the two tracks "part of a compilation." Go to iTunes, select 'Get Info" on the tracks, in the 'Info' tab, tick the checkbox at the bottom-right corner that says 'part of a compilation.'

  • Audio track not playing back (appears greyed out)...

I just recorded a bass part and the region appears in the track with Audio Data but doesn't play back within the context of the song (arrange window), but does play when I double-click the region and scrub through the Audio window. The region appears greyed out in the Arrange window. It's really weird because everything else plays fine including loops I am using in the other Audio tracks.

Sounds like the region may be muted. Try using the mute tool and click on the region to unmute (or select the region and type 'm' on your keyboard).
    Hope it helps...

  • Midi track not playing back

Using LP8, PreSonus Firebox, Roland FP4 keyboard, condenser mic. Trying to record 1 audio and 1 midi track simultaneously.
The audio is recording and playing back perfectly thru the Phones thru the Firebox.
The midi is not coming thru. I tried all the settings in the FireBox's control panel.
I want to be able to use earphones with 2 people in the same room.
Thanks much in advance. I've tried everything I can think of including searching the manual.

I'm triggering an EX24 piano which came with Logic Studio. If I unplug the FireBox and Restart the computer then the Apple's core audio is enabled and I can hear both tracks (1 midi & 1 audio) playing through the apple's line-out/phone output.
But if I try to use the Firebox, there is no playback coming through the Firebox phones jack.
In Logic/Pref/Audio it says the audio device is the Firebox. Same at Apple/Preferences. Both input and output are set to Firebox.
I talked with PreSonus who makes Firebox and they don't understand it.
    Thanks,
    charlie

  • HT204266 If I have a play list of various artists and on this list I have two tracks from the same album how can I combine those two tracks to play as one if I am using the shuffle feature?

When I import my music files to iTunes will I be creating new files for every file I import? If the answer is YES; where are those files going to be stored and how much space will they use?
To begin with you can't manage FLAC in iTunes. The use of iTunes is at this moment limited to WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, AAC and MP3. But that's not a problem because if I understand you correctly you want to organize the MP3-files in iTunes.
When you import music files you can let iTunes copy all files and put it in an iTunes-media-Folder. You can make the choice in preferences-->tab advanced.
If you deselect the second blue checkbox (sorry, in Dutch) iTunes won't copy files as you import the files in your library. It will use the files from the place they are on the disk now. So you have a choice. But if you want iTunes to copy them, they will be placed in a folder called iTunesMedia. This is how it placed on your disk.
All files will be put in one music folder well ordered by artist and albums. If you want to make a backup of all your music you just have to copy the iTunes folder to another disk. You can backup all music at once. How much space they will use depends on the bitrate of the MP3 and whether you add more tagging to it. You can have iTunes add album artwork. That means adding gif or jpg files to your library. Are you using bitrate 320 for your MP3?
If you tell me I can give you estimates on the disk-space you will need.

  • Can you bounce  or combine two audio tracks  onto   a third  track

Not sure if "bounce" is the right term. (And I am not talking about simply copying and pasting the regions onto the third track)
I have vocals on one track. Second vocal on another track with no overlap (But lets assume there was some overlap anyway) Can you send these tracks and combine them onto a third track. My obective is simply to save space, but I could also see using this trick to double the vocals. Can this be done, and if so how? Thanks.
With my old Zoom hard disc recorder you simply soloed the two tracks and play/rec onto the third track with Zooom's "bounce" button enabled.

Thanks Fox But as to your comment 1, are the regions going to "combine" on one of the existing tracks ?
Why don't you simply try it out ? I don't like spoilers... 8-)
And as to your comment 2, when you say "arm the new track for recording," do you then simply "rec" the whole segment of music in order for everything to be sent to the new third track? And must tracks 1 and 2 be soloed?
Look, if you have set up the two tracks to send their output to the bus, only these two will send their audio output to the bus, so you don't have to solo them. And since you don't want to record to these two tracks, you naturally only arm the new track for recording. When you then hit the record start button (or use the appropriate key command), the two tracks will play back, feed into the bus, and the new track will leech it's data out of the bus so you'll get a nice, new, neat mixdown.
Now off to the workbench! Learning by doing if much more rewarding than discussing "ifs and buts"

  • Audio tracks play back wrong audio

at some point in my mix sessions , in different sessions , one of my audio tracks starts playing back audio from both its channel and another channel simultaineously. there not always adjacent tracks , not assigned to the same voice and have seemingly nothing in common. if i change voices i can sometimes allieviate the problem or it will start playing a different track audio simultaineously. i have two records pending and need some immediate help please...

    D,
Just to warn you (or throw some experience in). Logic 7 has for me, operated poorly with sessions created from older versions of Logic. It is often fine if you just want to duck in and grab something but the sessions do go weird if you just keep using them they go batty and can often get kind of self destructive.
Updating/merging/replacing the environment is one of the first steps to take, just creating new updated objects helps, even using presets and channel strips from older versions seem to give problems. Copying objects and configurations over can give you different results, but basically the more you replace and create as new the less problems you'll have.
So you know you have alot of reworking to do if you really want to do alot of work with these in the current version. Determine where a good transition point would be and try to follow with that. Often mixing or sooner than later but plan on taking some time reworking things. It's almost easiest to just grab everything and paste it over into a 7 built autoload-without the plugins. Audio Objects and plugin instances seem to give alot of problems. I usually end up redoing a bunch of stuff if I have a ways to go and export away. Things really get fixed along the way but it is a pain and better to do it sooner. Unless you're coming up on a mixing stage or something soon I'd just do it (and keep a backup of the older versions just in case I want to retrieve something.
I am working on an album that was created on a 6 autoload and 12 of 13 tracks had to be reformatted in 7 from forward INcompatabilities-some of them twice because they did not get a 100% clean autoload (as in the instruments and/or audio objects were opied over). Maybe I'm just weird, don't take only my word on this because it is alot of work for many projects to just redo things like this but you should be aware of what some people have encountered and be prepared to take some of those steps if there are more people saying their experience has been like this.
    Best of Luck

  • Unable to play back real instrument tracks

greetings - i've been working on a song in Garage Band for a couple of years. the back story is that this file has grown to 2.5GB in size (all my other GB files are a lot less). it has about 10 real instrument tracks and 6 software tracks. Yesterday while working on the file a strange thing started happening; the first (of 3) software piano track started playing back intermittently with a bunch of reverb; i had not requested that it have reverb. i tried removing reverb, i tried soloing and unsoloing, muting and unmuting, and sometimes that would get rid of the reverb. so that was anomaly #1 yesterday. Finally, after finishing the session and saving/ closing the file, i wanted to make a backup copy so did command-D. Possible anomaly #2: when the original file and the backup file names appeared in the window, i renamed both; then i realized that the Mac was still in the process of copying the file; so i don't know if that renaming introduced a problem. Once the backup was finished, i opened the file (and the backup file, subsequently), and the REAL instrument tracks (plus the first midi piano track i laid down) NO LONGER MAKE ANY SOUND. the software drums, flute, and pianos 2&3 play back;  the vocal sounds like the reverb is playing back but not the original track (i assigned basic female reverb to the vocal track). Everything visually still seems to be present in the file - all the details of instrument, level, pan, etc. but i'm getting no sound from the real instrument tracks or the 1st software piano track. i have TRIED all the suggestions for optimizing performance given in GB help. i am stuck and truly hope my arrangement will once again sound! many thanks in advance for any suggestions; Matthew Allen

try toggling the Ducking menuItem, that's solved some similar issues

  • No play back on multiple audio tracks

I am editing a project and can not get all of my audio tracks to play back. A3, A4, A5, A6, ... all are silent. In audio editing, on the mixer, tracks show they are being played on the faders but no sound. A1 and A2 play just fine. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance.
    mmm

Let me give you a stronger clue, mmm. If your timeline audio playback is set for more audio channels than you have available in hardware, A3A6 could be set to output to channels that don't exist. Make sense?
Right-click (Control-click) on the Audible button for each audio track and slide your mouse over to Audio Output to see what's what.

  • Midi recordings not playing back??? BIG problem!

    Hi Everyone....
I hope its not a bug, so im praying someone here can figure this one out....
lets say i am playing a midi recording and record it on an audio instrument channel..
when i play on my midi keyboard everything works fine and logic simply works as it should.
now, after i have recorded a midi composition, however short or long, and i push play to hear it and edit it, logic wont play it back, and no sound comes out of the particular track?
Then, when i drag the midi recording to another audio instrument track, it plays back fine!
Also, when i try to put the recording on this track on solo, it wont work, and the midi region doesnt have the yellow line around, like it usually has.
I am guessing it has to do with the instrument, which in this case is the korg legacy, but what i dont understand is that if it would be the instrument, why does it work perfectly when i play it on my midi keyboard? and not after i record something and want to play it back????
I hope someone has some more info on me, cuz its really slowing me down atm, and it has happend a couple of times already, also on other instruments...
btw, making a duplicate track also does not work, it wont play back on that either! but only the original recording recorded to that track. and lastly, i also copied all the notes out of the midi recording, then erased it and paste it as a new midi recording, and thats also no good...
Quite a long question i guess, but i hope someone can help
    thanks a lot in advance.
    cheers,

I'm happy to be corrected on this one but it seems that this problem (which I'm currently trying to deal with) occurs when opening 7.x sessions in v8. At the moment the only way to get the track to play again is to close the session and re-open it. The channel will be muted when you re-open it so you need to hit 'm' on the regions(s).
It isn't synth specific either (I don't think) as I'm using a few different ones and getting the same result.
Pretty average eh. Hope they fix it soon.
    Cheers

  • Dynamics audio effect glitchy. Audio plays back too softly.

    PP 7.1.0
    Mac OS X 10.8.4
Basic timeline. Three tracks of audio. One of the tracks is playing back VERY quietly. This track has a dynamics effect applied, with only the "limiter" function checked on (at -3db). Audio on this channel plays back too softly. A restart of premiere fixes the problem for a few moments, but then its back to soft again. Playing the clip in the source monitor plays it back at the correct volume. Turning the effect off altogether also plays the audio at the original (louder) volume - albeit minus the limiter. The waveform itself is plenty loud. But when the effect is engaged, the clip suddenly plays back about 15db quieter than it should.
    Any ideas?

    Hi T-MACK,
This may not be much help but I had the same problem. Inspection showed that I'd inadvertantly set the camera on long play when shooting the footage. It seemed fine when importing into imovie but playback appeared to be double speed. I posted a question on this forum but couldn't get a satisfactory solution. Re-setting the camera and reimporting didn't help. However, I borrowed a friends camcorder and reimported the same video from that. It worked. I can't see why but it did.
Perhaps sommeone will come up with a better answer.
    Regards
    Rob

  • Why is there an echo from the MP3 narration when I play back a Recorded Timing slideshow in Keynote?

I have an MP3 audio file across all slides in my Keynote presentation.  Then I "Record Slideshow" to record the slide timings as I want them.  Upon playback, there is a slight echo as if two tracks are playing.  What have I done?
    Thanks.

Thanks for the post!  I'm hoping you might be able to lend a hand on the same subject??
I'm also having that problem, but only on two of my audio files??
I have a Keynote Presentation that I've recorded Narriation for with an MP3 file in the beginning...it worked fine.  I then used Tooble to download a youtube video.  The first one (virtual tour) tuned out fine.  The second youtube video (client testmonial) - echo lag of about a second or two.  SUPER annoying.  I move on to a video my compnay (Century 21) provided me & also feedback on that one.  The final audio clip is of the century 21 jingle, which is an MP3.  It sounds fine also.
    What gives?
When I try and pull the volume down like you've suggested, the whole voiceover narrition goes away & it wants me to "edit" my show.  I'm so confused.  My voiceover is never echoy...just the two videos.
    Help?

  • Logic wont play back audio regions under certain tracks.

Hello! I am rearranging my audio files (throwing them all to my secondary hard drive, where I record to ). I did this, and now certain audio files to do not play back in my logic projects, but there is no warning that says the file cannot be found--which is what I am used to happening. At that point I would either hit the Search button, or the Manually Find button. Instead, the region appears as per usual, just with nothing playing back. I know I could import the audio back into my projects manually--which would be fine for those that start at a specific, clean-cut time, but what about all those spliced and diced regions that are cut up and laid out all over the place!?
I discovered new details to the weirdness . . .
It seems, in the few projects that I relocated audio, that the affected regions cannot be played back unless I move them to another audio track. What??? For example, the vocal track in one song, which is all set up with its plugins and such as Audio Track 2, will produce no sound unless I drag it to another audio track, say Audio Track 3 or 4. It is bonkers!! What the heck is that about?
This is what happened in all of the projects affected by my source audio rearrangement. Sure, I could easily just copy my channel strip settings to a new track, relocate my audio region to it, and hope all goes well thereforth, but I would much rather get to the root of this oddity so it doesn't somehow buck me later.
What do you think it could be?
Oh yea, in one of the projects, all the other audio tracks seem to play back fine, except for the recorded bass track. Okay, so just to check, I drag the bass audio to another track--yep, it does play back. But I realized that the track that held the bass region (Track 4) is actually playing back the vocals (which are also playing back normally in their intended track). I initially didn't notice the extra vocals underneath my normal vocals track, with their low-key bass plug-in settings. Funny thing is, there isn't even a region on Track 4 any more! How is it playing anything back at all?? Not that it makes any more sense that it would be playing back vocals with a bass region.
Also, the fact that Logic Pro keeps quitting unexpectedly does not inspire much confidence. This has just been lately, and I've only been playing with these projects lately, trying to figure this out.
    Is my Logic haunted? =(
I welcome any and all objective suggestions! I am feeling just the slightest bit overwhelmed by this odd behavior.
    Thanks!
(i checked, but did not see that the tracks were muted in anyway, including the region itself)

I figured something out that might tell someone what I did to screw things up!
I think I did something to mess up the environment or something. I know this much now: When I created a new project, I created 6 new audio tracks. I noticed that a piece of previously recorded audio that I imported into the project would only play back on ever other track! I than noticed that on the every other track (that would not play back the audio when it was dragged to it), there was neither a single circle (indicating mono for the track) or the two overlapping circles (indicating stereo for the track) beneath the channel's level meter.
There must be some significance to this that I do not quite understand!
I then went back and launched several of my problematic projects to see if the tracks that would not play back audio also did not display either the mono or stereo circles on their respective channel strips. They did not! What kind of global setting did I change that would cause this?
There was one project that had one track that bared neither mono or stereo an played back its audio (Although, in this same project, there was another track that bared neither symbol that was not playing back its audio). Anyway, I noticed something that was weird to me, but will likely tell someone what the heck I must have inadvertently done to cause all of this:
When I change one audio track (that bares the mono symbol) into stereo, the next audio track (that didn't display either symbol) seems like it is combined with the previous track's output!
Very strange! Did I somehow set some global preference to split up my audio tracks across each not audio track?? If so, could someone please explain to me what and I did that? Thanks!

  • Crackling, clipping sound during play backs/recordings? No tracks are actually clipping..

Hello, I've recently got GarageBand 10.0.2 and imported an old GB file to work with in the new GB.
When i play back the recording it seems i get a crackling, clipping type of sound although no tracks are actually clipping?
i think it may occur when i switch to the new presets but the clipping/popping noises come and go with ever play back.
    Any idea?

A good bit-depth calculation would be useful for verifying the resolution of a recording, especially when it comes from a source that may have done it incorrectly.  For example, an unfamiliar combination of hardware, software, and their settings might appear to deliver 24-bit recordings (observed from file size) but in fact deliver upsampled 16-bit audio.
If you end up with a recording that has a sample bit depth size that is the equivalent of 24 bits, you couldn't tell anything about the real source of it anyway - it could be upsampled 8 bit, for all you could tell from those numbers. And that's all it does - takes a guess from the sample depth.
I deal with the audio I get, regardless of what any form of analysis says about it, because generally there's nothing I can do about it anyway. And that's why I don't think there's any value in the information - I treat the audio and save it as 32-bit FP - end of argument!
And, er, exactly which plugins have you discovered that are not giving you back what you sent them, or something better?
