Combo Drive don't work

Hi all. Here is the thing. I've got this G5 and the combo drive suddenly stop working, is not recognize by the mac and in the system profiler the combo drive is not listed. What can i do to fix it??.

But here's the answer anyway: what you are experiencing is not a malfunction and nothing is wrong with your system.
Whenever Fusion is on, it captures the cd/dvd drive by default and hides it from OSX. There is an option in Fusion that toggles this behavior. Open Fusion, and in your "VIrtual Machine Library," select the machine that you want to change. Then click on "Settings." Under Removable Devices, you will find "CD/DVD." *Uncheck "connected"*, and your CD/DVD drive will function normally in OSX.
*But this option only toggles the boot-time behavior.* Once WinXP is booted inside Fusion, you can just select Virtual Machine (in the menu bar), CD/DVD, Connect CD/DVD to use your drive inside WinXP. OR select "Disconnect" to use your drive in OSX. *You cannot use the CD/DVD drive for OSX and WinXP simultaneously.* But you can switch back and forth without shutting down WInXP or Fusion.
Also, make sure VMWare tools is installed in WinXP.

External Combo Drive doesn't work after installing Snow Leopard

This Mini was bought used with a defective combo drive. I purchased a "No-Brand" external Combo Drive (USB connected and powered) off eBay. Everything worked fine under Leopard. I used the external drive to install Snow leopard but could not eject the DVD at the completion of the installation process. I manually ejected the DVD and discovered the external drive now doesn't work with either DVD's or CD"s.
Any ideas what the problem is?

Deskjet 5550 driver don't work with my hp7350 with win 7

I understand that the HP Deskjet 5550 drive will not work for your HP Photosmart 7350 on Windows 7. I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
Please see this guide, Installing an Alternate Print Driver in Windows 7 for a USB Cable Connection. You may need to try another driver.
Another option is to try and download the Windows XP driver found at this website, HP Photosmart Printer Software Driver. Once the Windows XP driver is downloaded, you can attempt to install it using the Windows 7 compatibility mode tool, Make older programs run in this version of Windows.

Satellite L300-H02: DVD/CD drive don't work - Error message 39

I just purchased a Toshiba Laptop, running Vista Premium Home Edition, and after a massive Windows update download, the DVD-CD drive didnt work. Error message 39, corrupt or missing driver. The driver isnt missing, so it must be corrupt. Am savvy with regedit regarding removal of upper and lower filters from the registry, except havent action the removal yet, as there doesnt appear to be an upper filter listed. Only the lower filter.
Also, the information states you may lose functionality in certain programs such as CD recording programs. In this scenario, you must reinstall any affected programs. which is a problem, as Vista etc. was already loaded and no other software came with the laptop.
Im a little chicken to go ahead and remove the lower filter registry entry, seeing as theres no upper entry to delete, plus I've heard some people can't write to CD after removing the filters in the registry.
Where can I get information on the CD-rom drive for this model: pslboa-08h022 ?
There isn't any information on it in the System Information.

This seems to be the only solution I've been able to track down, although I was looking for a better one. I rang Toshiba support, and they said Toshiba could not be held responsible for any advice followed on the Windows website.
If the filters aren't necessary to the running of the DVD drive, why are they there? I don't want an impaired DVD-OM drive that is unable to function in writing mode.
Toshiba phone support said to remove the hardware from the Device Manager (CD-Rom Drive with ! displayed), then download a new driver from: http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/drivers
I have a feeling this driver is already on my computer, but will follow through with his advice. If this doesn't work, he said the only other thing to do would be a system restore. Which means reinstalling ALL the programs and files I so laboriously installed a few days ago.
I only purchased this notebook on the 11th September!!! I am fast becoming disillusioned with both Toshiba and Windows Vista. I want a first rate product functioning as it should, not a headache to be endured.

USB external hard drive and thumb drive don't work any more...

I have a dual 2GHz PowerPC G5...and i've been using my USB external hard drive and thumb drives for a year with no problems....but now when i plug them in, my mac does not see them...the lights on the external hard drive and thumb drives come on as normal but nothing else...it does this on all the USB ports(front and back) BUT my iPod, keyboard and mouse, and HP printer (that use the same USB ports) works fine....(also i'm running Mac OS X 10.5.2)....help....

You can't transfer songs from iPod to computer using iTunes, except for songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store (you can also re-download them using the iTunes Store Purchased screen). However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer song files from iPod to computer. If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, drag the files (or the folder containing the files) to the iTunes window, to add them to the iTunes library.

Icons flicker and external drives don't work

anyone having this issue? It just started today.
the icons on the Late 2009 iMac desktop will flicker and when i try to copy a folder to one of my extarnal Seagate HD's the icons flash and the transfer stops.

1) Make sure VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK is selected.
     Check, had already tried this but nothing shows no matter what I do.
2) Make sure the iMovie Projects folder and the iMovie Events folder on the external drive are at the top level of the drive. If they are within another folder, iMovie will not see them.
     Check, all 4 drives have these folders at the top level.
3) If you open iMovie within another user account, and everything works fine, then this is probably a corrupt preferences file. You can correct by trashing your preferences, as described here.

     Tried this, no difference I'm afraid. Also, all four accounts on this computer exhibit the same behavior. All drives and projects show in the Projects window but nothing shows in the Events window.   I even created a brand new account and it's doing the same thing.
One other little detailed I should have mentioned.   I had a hard drive "failure" just before this started but managed to coax all the information from the failing drive on to a new one before it failed completely (interface issue on the external case and not a problem with the hard drive itself, I am now using the drive in a dock as a backup drive).   I now realize it would have been preferable to copy the movies to the new drive within iMovie but at the time was just focused on trying to save the information so did it through the OS. As it was I had to resort to copying individual clips from the old drive to the new because copying more than a couple of Gig at a time would fail.
I'm starting to consider picking up a new internal drive and re-installing everything from scratch and then manually copying over the user data files to make sure nothing corrupt gets copied over ?

Audigy 2 Value and Windows 7 64bit driver don't work

my first Audigy SE before Audigy 2 Value (SB0400) worked perfect on Windows 7 64bit
with Audigy 2 Value SB0400 i tried 3 drivers , including the beta from the creative support , original and daniel_k driver and after reboot the windows hangs at LOGO and stays there.

Re: SB Audigy 2 ZS and Windows 7 - Full Package driver?T While Creative has written new drivers and some applications for Windows 7/Vista for the Audigy, they have not re-written or updated all of the original applications on the CD. This card is very old now. What Daniel K. did was take all of the applications or most of them, and tweaked them to properly install and include themselves in the registry on operating systems other than Windows XP. If the application you want is not included in his package, then you can try downloading the official Creative version and install it on your system in "compatibility mode" by right clicking the file, and choosing properties, and then the compatibility tab and choosing "Windows XP service pack 2 or 3" and it may or may not function.

10.4.7 Update Now External Hard Drives don't work w/Camcorder on

I just updated to 10.4.7 and now when I have my firewire camcorder (Panasonic PVD-252) connected, my two external firewire hard drives (both Lacie) do not work and it causes the Finder to freeze. When I turn the camcorder off, the problem stops.
I had heard of this issue with certain camcorders with older versions of OS X but it was fine before the update (in fact earlier this evening).

Yes to all. I even tried to connect it to my old iMac G4 (that I also upgraded to 10.4.7 at the same time) and it didn't recognize the camcorder either. I will have to borrow a friend's different model camcorder and see if it is recognized.
I also had a disk error that Disk Utility had to fix on both the G5 and G4 iMac that appeared after upgrading to 10.4.7. And for some reason the G5 would not boot from the CD/DVD where the G4 would. I tried and tried and the G5 just wouldn't boot. I ended up connecting it to the G4 using target disk mode in order to fix the thing. After that I tried again to boot using the CD with no luck.

My Combo drive is not working

Hi,
I recently switched to a mac and bought an iBook. It used to have a Dell but after I had way to many problems with it I decided it was time to switch. Everything has worked perfectly so far.....up until yesterday when I was watching a DVD-movie. All of a sudden the computer freezed and I had to force to shut it off. When i restarted the computer it could not find the DVD drive so i could not get the DVD out of the computer. I finally found a way to get it out by restarting it and pressing the mouse button at the same time.
However, my problem remains. The computer does not find the CD and DVD drive and therefore I can not insert a disc into the drive. This drives me crazy. It appears as if I have to reinstall the DVD drive but how do I do this? I can not insert the installation file.
Please help me....

Ipod and external Hard drive don't work together

I got a dell optiplex gx260 which has 6 2.0 USB ports. My IPod (80GB classinc) library is stored on external HDD. When I connect my HDD to the comp and point iTunes to the HDD library everything is good and I see my songs. As soon as I connect iPod it shows up “unknown device” in a device manager. If I disconnect HDD and connect iPod only windows finds it OK, but as soon as I plug HDD back in iPod disappears. I’ve tried reinstalling sys and inf files, pointing towards updated drivers and all nothing still the same thing, tried every port and every combination on the computer USB ports still the same thing iPod and HDD don’t want to work together. Please advice, thanks.

I got the same problem here but not just with IPod. When I power up my external disk (with aux power supply) my usb stick (or IPod or printer or scanner or other devices) on other ports get disconnected. All devices did work toghether some months ago.
I think this is related to a hardware problem. Things began to fail, when I tried to co-supply 5V to a device connected to my usb bus. I possibly toasted some logic on the motherbord.
Testing your hardware on a second system may help you. Or have a look if a USB stick instead of IPod gets disconnected too. This may prove that its not IPod related.

MSI6119 motherboard and Maxtor 80 GB Hard Drive don't work toogether ?

I have a MSI 6119 notherboard and I am currently using a 15 GB Maxtor hard drive.
Today I tried to connect a second hard drive (a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 80 GB
ATA/133 hard drive), and when the bios tries to auto detect it it hangs).
Does anybody here was able to connect big hard drives (80 GB +) to such an
MSI 6119 motherboard, or is this a limitation of this board.

Hey everyone...I seem to have the same problem, but when both hard drives are hooked up, my computer freezes on the first screen (I think it is called the POST?)..I hit delete to enter BIOS and nothing happens..I have to unplug it completely in order for my computer to start up... It just happened out of the blue, it was working fine (I just use the drive to store files, etc. and it has no operating system). Any ideas here? Thanks

[Solved]Xorg-server and nvidia binary driver don't work

See topic. When updating to xf86-input-evdev-2.8.2-2 xf86-input-joystick-1.6.2-3 xf86-input-keyboard-1.8.0-2 xf86-input-mouse-1.9.0-2 and xorg-server-1.15.0-1 X won't start and 'systemctl status kdm.service' states that the X server has died. According to Phoronix this should not happen.

Seagate external hard drives don't work after installing Mavericks 10.9

I have a 3 year old MacBook Pro. I upgraded the system to OSX Mavericks 10.9. Since then my computer does not recognize any external hard drives. I have a 1 TB Seagate external drive and a Seagate Free Agent 750 GB hard drive and my mac does not recognize either of them. Prior to the upgrade my Mac could read and write to the drives. Below is the message I receive when I plug in the 1TB hard drive.
The NTFS volume that you're trying to mount (/dev/rdisk3s1) has not been unmounted properly.
This may mean that the volume is in an inconsistent state, and mounting it with NTFS-3G could lead to data loss. You are recommended to attach the drive to a Windows computer and unmount it properly with the "Safe remove hardware" feature to guarantee the safety of your NTFS volume.
Please help.

Have you tried the recommended steps? If the Windoze machine won't allow you to safely eject, restart the computer and try ejecting again.

Usb drives don't work

i've got some usb drives and even a usb hard drive that i've been using between my 10.3.9 powerpc and 10.4.11 intel. i've been switching them out no problem for weeks but all of a sudden my 10.3.9 computer doesn't see usb anything anymore. no thumb drives, no hard drives. my usb hard drive lights up but the computer never sees it. any ideas?
