Combo Drive ribbon cable connector

While upgrading my HDD on the Intel Mini I somehow broke the connector for the ribbon cable on the Combo Drive. There is a brown plastic clip that holds the ribbon cable in the connector, which cracked and fell off. Is there any way to fix this? The Combo Drive no longer works. The good news is that the new HDD works fine (awesome restore from Time Machine!) and I hardly ever use the combo drive. Any guesstimates on what the local Apple repair center will charge to fix this? Is it possible to buy the needed parts directly from Apple?

Ahh, I recently did the same thing on my mini when I was upgrading the RAM, the connector really ***** doesn't it? I went to the local Mac store and ordered the replacement board (that has the connector on it) for $30 (from Apple) without installation. When you go to the Mac store, tell them that the connector for the ribbon cable (they should know which one) fell off and if you can order a new one. Hope this helps.

The cables are not that expensive at an Apple store and it will be replaced for you as well. Consider that option.

What's this black piece of foam on keyboard ribbon cable?

Today I upgrade my hard drive to 7200 RPM one.
When I tried to lift out the keyboard ribbon cable connector by tearing up the yellow piece of tape on top of the black foam thing on top of connector, the tape stick a portion of the black piece thing up.

Now everything is running fine, no matter with the keyboard or the system.
I'm just wondering what that piece of black foam thing is for?
Will that affect the keyboard in any way?

Can a ribbon cable for the LCD or digitizer on the iPhone come loose?

I dropped my iPhone on its back yesterday so the back has a crack but when I picked it up and pushed the power button nothing happened its just off, so I put my earphones with a remote and clicked the button on the earphone to play music and the music played, my phone vibrates and ring when I get a text an call, Siri goes on but the screen just stays off. I was wondering what happened, maybe a ribbon came loose or something?

Yes the LCD ribbon cable connector can come loose with hard impact to iPhone. This is more common with iPhones which have had the front replaced, because the new screen often does not have the stock Apple cushion pads installed. However, hard impact to iPhone can outright break LCD which could be the problem too.

Does anyone know what wire size the 776832-01 68-pin Custom Cable Connector/Backshell Kit connector's solder cups accept?
I need to create a custom cable but can not use ribbon cable connectors to do it so this is a promising alternative.

I looked at the specs for the custom cable connector and the maximum wire size should be 20 AWG.

What header needed for TB-2676 ribbon cables?

I'm using the PXI-2576 with the TB-2676. The installation instructions state that you can buy a kit from NI, or use 8 2x10 .100 pitch ribbon cables. I chose to use my own assemblies, but then found that the ribbon cable connectors have to have a very low profile to allow the cover to close after the cables are installed.
Has anyone else run into this problem, and do you have a manufacturers P/N that worked to provide the proper clearance?

In the National Instruments kit, we use 2x10 0.100 in. Pitch Ribbon Cable Connectors from Samtec, Part Number IDD-10-HG. You can also obtain the finished 0.100 in. Pitch Cable Connector Assembly from Samtec, Part Number IDSD-10 Series.

What ribbon cable should I get for my 3rd drive?

Hi, I just installed my 3rd hard disk drive in my 933MHZ(was 733) QuickSilver G4.
I recently emailed a vendor asking:
"Hello, I have a Mac 733 Quick Silver computer and I just installed my
third hard disk drive. I need a 40 pin 4(for later) drive scsi ribbon

Did I ask for the wrong cable. From what I understand the QuickSilver can accomodate up to 4 internal drives. I would prefer to install a cable: 5 connector 4 drive than install a card.
The cable that I am using now for the 2 drives is APPLE P/N 590-2253 REV A
FOXCONN P/N FC80C17-00 K 0115. On the white lable is 080-0003-192 FOXCONN.

Unlike SCSI, each IDE/ATA channel can only support a maximum of two devices, hence there isn't such a thing as a 5 connector 4 drive IDE ribbon cable. The options for a third ATA drive are:
1. Mount it in the bay intended for a Zip drive (beneath the optical drive). Apple don't recommend this though due to possible heat issues and the bus is slower, being ATA/33 rather than ATA/66, which may affect performance.

2. Mount it in an external firewire enclosure which can be bought separately (driveless).
3. Buy a Mac compatible PCI card containing another ATA controller. These typically have two channels, each channel supporting two drives, for four drives in total.
4. Replace the ATA drive with a SATA drive and buy a Mac compatible PCI card containing a SATA controller. These typically have two channels, each channel supporting one drive, for two drives in total. They can be used in conjunction with the two ATA drives on the inbuilt ATA controller though, and four channel versions are available supporting four drives.

AD_EXT ribbon cable vs. generic hard-drive type ribbon ca

I removed my SB Audigy 2 Platinum - because I listened to the advice of other "so-called" home-recording musicians - and replaced it with (2) different "so-called" professional soundcards - both of which did not hold a candle to the SB Audigy 2 Platinum - so I have decided to put it back in my computer - my problem is: I have lost the wide ribbon cable (the AD_EXT cable) that connects the break-out box to the actual soundcard (I managed to keep EVERYTHING else in the box but that).... I wanted to ask if anyone knows if I could use a conventional ribbon cable (like the type that connects a hard dri've to the motherboard) as replacement for the AD_EXT. I actually checked to see if a regular ribbon cable would fit (without any power or other connections) and it seemed to slip on perfectly to both - plus it looks EXACTLY like the AD_EXT cable that came with the SB (red stripe & all). So again, can I go ahead and use a conventional hard-dri've ribbon cable as a replacement for the AD_EXT? And, if not ... can I order that part from Creative? And, if the latter, can anyone tell me how I can order one? Thanks,

I think it is the same. What Creative is saying, is that it is not an IDE connector, so don't connect your HDD there. This is because ISA soundcards used to come with a secondary IDE connector, which is not the case with modern soundcards.
If it looks the same and there was no twist on the cable then it should work. But I cannot confirm this for sure!

Ribbon cable for M-Series VHDCI connector

Looking for ribbon cable for NI's new M Series boards which use VHDCI
connectors. These are 68 pin connectors, 34 on each side, 0.8 mm
pitch cable.
Connectors can be obtained fom DigiKey # 787131-3 or from Honda
Connectors who carry 4 with different wire gauges (HDRA series).

I think the SHC68-68-EP is for E series. The SHC68-68-EPM is for M
series (VHDCI connector).
I simply need a short length of bare ribbon cable so I can attach it
to my existing bare conector and bring out its digital outputs. I've
not been able to locate ribbon cable with this 0.8 mm wire spacing.

Powerbook 15" G4 Keyboard Ribbon Cable (Keyboard Cable Connector)

I wanna ask, if the ribbon cable (Keyboard Cable Connector) of a powerbook G4 15 inch keyboard, could be replace. I have a faulty ribbon cable but only the ribbon, not the keyboard. I wouldn't replace the whole keyboard but only the ribbon keyboard, if it is possible.

I know this is an old post and you probably have solved your problem one way or another, but here is an idea.
If your problem is at the end of the flex cable where the contact material is you might look at the contact surface carefully. you might be able to identify where the actual contact area is and you might trim a 1mm or 2mm from the end of the cable and then see if you don't get a better connection.

Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum - Drive Bay ribbon cable replacement?

Hi all, I searched on this topic, but couldn't find anything that answered this question.
Is it possible to replace this ugly, grey ribbon cable with an IDE ?Round cable? Or does Creative have a replacement cable that is sleeved and rounded? This **bleep** cable is the only thing I can't di'vert out of the way in my case (due to length) and it's somewhat obstructing my intake airflow in.
I already tried using a rounded IDE cable, but the pins holes don't match up with the X-Fi pins.

Why are you worring about conecting to the MB. You simply run the included ribbon cable from the X-fi to the bay and connect pwr to the bay itself not the card. Thats all there is to it

Can I install a combo drive in ibook G3?

I have a G3 iBook and it only plays CDs. I'd like to swap out the drive and replace it with a combo drive to read and write. Can this be done? Does anyone know what models are compatible and are there "how to" instructions for doing so? Please advise and thanks.

I've done it, in a G3 500. Not a techie!
It is very time consuming (probably take you about 2 hours, the first time) but not impossible. If you like to tinker (or are desperate, as I was) give it a try.
Here is some advice, if you decide to do it. Make sure you have all the proper tools.
1)Print out the instructions.
2)Keep track of all the screws, and where they go (I used double-sided tape to attach them next to the appropriate pictures).
3)Be very careful with the ribbon cable (large orange cable which attaches both the HD and the Optical Drive).
4)Be very careful removing the Trackpad, Power, and Speaker cable connectors.
Also, you might want to replace your Hard Drive with a larger one at the same time. Most of the steps are already done, so you would get more bang for your buck (so to speak). You can install up to 120GB in an iBook, I think.

Trackpad/KB Ribbon Cable Clip NEEDED

I recently upgraded my 17" 1.33 GHz PB hard drive from 80 GB to 120 GB. In the process, I cracked the plastic retaining clip that holds the trackpad/KB ribbon cable in its connector on the logic board. The cable is fine, but the little 10 cent plastic clip needs to be replaced.
I have not been able to find this part anywhere, and I can't believe that I am the first person to break it (it's pretty flimsy). Apple support was beyond unsympathetic and downright rude when I called to try to buy it from them.
Does anyone know of a source for this part? the alternative of several hundred dollars for a new top case is out of the question.

WEIRD! Has Anyone had this problem with the keyboard ribbon cable? HLP! PLS

Replacing a DVD drive and using ifixit to reassemble the unit; the PB 1.67 Ghz wont turn on--nothing.
After 3 days of troubleshooting I finally found that pressing the keyboard ribbon cable to the logic board very firmly while pressing the power button starts it.
Nothing else works. When I release the pressure the PB works fine after start however the power switch doesnt work again (for an emergency manual shutdown or to boot the PB again). Tape doesnt work.
This connection is only a small friction fit connector. Ive cleaned the area, compressed air cleaned and close inspection shows no visible problems I can see.
Has anybody experienced this and how do I fix it? I cant open the PB every time I want to boot it!

Hi, Steve. I don't have an answer for your faulty connection, but as for workarounds, there is seldom a need to shut a Powerbook down and then boot it up using the power button. I recommend that you stop shutting down as a matter of habit, and instead just put the Powerbook to sleep (using the command in the Apple menu) when you aren't going to use it for a while.
I could easily count on my fingers and toes the total number of times my Powerbook has been shut down since I bought it four years and ten months ago. It runs 24/7/365 except when I'm working on something inside it. For all other purposes, a software Sleep or Restart command suffices, and I don't need the power button for those. You should be able to reduce your need for that button just as drastically.
