  • FF 5 running on windows 7 has suddenly stopped allowing access to comcast mail, but this is not a problem under Snow Leopard

I am running the latest version of firefox on a windows 7 laptop and Mac desktop. The windows version was allowing access to comcast email until it suddenly stopped. It won't let me open any email on the summary page or view the entire inbox. Opening firefox in safe mode does not eliminate the problem. I have no problem accessing comcast mail on the MAC or with Chrome, Safari or IE on the laptop.

    Hi Steve1904,
So you have use the backup and Restore to restore your files from Windows XP to Windows 7 directly?
This should be considered not work.
If you would like to transfer files between Windows XP and Windows 7, you need another tool called Windows Easy Transfer.
See the article below if you would like to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7:
Upgrading from Windows XP to Windows 7
If possible, follow the steps there, then things should be OK.

  • More and more mail problems

What a disaster. I've written about my mail problems before with mail before and I know what I managed to do this time is my fault, its something "I" don't understand about mail. But man am I screwed.
I use my imac 98% of the time and I get 100% of my email on it (mobileme, concast, gmail). All works fine.
A week ago I have an emergency appendix surgery and am doing rather poorly so I'm in bed on my macbook air. I need to get my email on that computer. I enable the email accounts so I can get all my "new" mail. Ugh, it starts syncing and bingo 2 weeks worth of mail on my imac is gone. No where to be found. Tons of work mail, important mail, lordy this is a mess.
I know it had something to do with syncing.. the only account that is imap is my mobileme but I lost a ton of mail in that and its not on either computer or on the mobile me page either. It's just gone. And so is the gmail on the imac and again that isn't imap its a pop account and it was mail that was not in my inbox, I had received it weeks ago and put it in other mail boxes I created (like the work folder). And it just is all gone.
IF anyone can shed some light on what I did and how to avoid this, I'd love that. Should I have just gone to the websites to check the mail (gmail site, comcast.net, mobileme site?)
I am really in trouble with this email thing I lost stuff that I can't recreate. What a huge huge mess.
    thanks for any insight,
    Susan

The issue....just resolved itself! I have not a clue how this happened...

  • Cannot get Comcast mail

After years of using Mail to download my Comcast mail, I am no longer able to get my mail. I get the spinning beach ball and my hard drive makes noise and gets very warm. I created a local account and moved all of the messages there. Then I deleted the account in mail and from the mail folder. This solved the problem for one week. It is back now. I travel a lot so I use the SSL authentication. It is troubling to have to keep deleting the account.
All software updates are current. I have repaired permissions and rebooted. I can send e-mail with no problem. Is it possible that one e-mail could be causing all this? Once it is downloaded to mail it will not allow any more messages to come through? As I was moving the messages to a local folder the first time, I noticed one e-mail would not move. Once I deleted it and emptied the trash everything worked fine. I am currently keeping the messages on the server with all these problems. Should that be an issue?
Is it possible that I need to run Disk Utility? Maybe the file structure has been corrupted.
Why would a mail message cause the hard drive to spin?
    Rambling I am.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions,
    Debbie

What great suggestions. I happen to only have Airport and Ethernet checked. But on the bright side, as I was cleaning out my online Comcast mail I found an e-mail I could not delete. I logged off and back on, the e-mail mysteriously deleted itself and now my mail is coming through.
I wrote down the offending e-mailer and will look further into where it is coming from. I assume for now it had a corrupted attachment. My friends with their ridiculous jokes they insist on forwarding
At least now a red flag will go up when I stop getting mail.
I still wonder if this is specific to Mail?
I am thankful for all of your suggestions and quick responses.
I keep a notebook next to the computer with all of these ideas to pass on and try again if need be.
I am going to close out the post.
    Keep your fingers crossed.

  • Comcast mail

I just finished getting off the phone wt Comcast. I've been on the phone wt them, several times, related to email, and all of their mail settings are correct. They told me that if I have more then one email client when using apple mail, the one I used last will take control of my Comcast mail settings, it wasn't Comcast. They said this can sometimes cause me to get a upside down triangle, next to my Comcast mail box. This error symbol periodically appears, and then just as mysteriously vanishes. They told me that Comcast has to be the primary email, and having other inboxes will screw up Comcast mail settings. I currently have an iCloud, Yahoo, and Comcast account set up in Mac Mail. My yahoo, and iCloud mail always seems to work great, but Comcast goes down a lot. My primary mail is iCloud, but Comcast tells me that their mail will always eventually fail, unless it is the only client in Mac Mail. Does that sound correct, or are they feeding me a bunch of bull? Also, does anyone have any other ideas, as to why this error occasionally occurs, and how to fix it. I'm not entirely sure it is entirely Comcast's fault, since I had no problem getting mail wt them prior to downloading Yosemite.

I Have had Comcast Xfinity Internet and email since I first got broadband service years ago. I have four different email accounts on my two iPads, iPhone, and on my Mac. I use the Mac Mail app on my MacBook Pro and I am also running the most up to date Yosemite 10.10.2. Comcast is feeding you a line of bull cookies. I have no problems at all with any of the email accounts on any of my devices. Not only do I not have any problems with any of the accounts, but I am running Comcast as an IMAP and as a POP account on all devices including the Mac, so once again, the Comcast support people know not of what they speak.
I have never heard of having the last email account hijack the settings for another email account like the Comcast "support" person is claiming.

  • Comcast mail issues

How do I read comcast mail in iPad. It will not open.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Comcast has had a longtime standing problem with their SMTP servers. I found out I had to contact their second tier tech support to get the correct mail server to be using with their service when I tried using them some 8 years ago. Boy that was an adventure. We finally found out that smtp.comcast.net or mail.comcast.net was not what I needed. What I needed to use with a mail server on the first hop out on the traceroute to their mail server. Open Network Utility, and select traceroute. Select the mail server they assigned you. Find if you've got a different comcast address that appears first. The other thing that may help is assigning both your machine and your linksys routers an open dns DNS server: http://www.opendns.org/

  • Comcast Mail on iPAD

I have my Comcast mail set up on my iPad. It is set up as a POP account. I have it set up to delete a message from the server after I have deleted it from the inbox. It does not happen. Several minutes later, all the messages download again. This costs a lot of money when you are traveling internationally. Any ideas on how to not have them re-download?

Comcast has an Mail app. You might want to think about using that instead of the Apple Mail app. Maybe they wrote the app t get around the problem you noted. There site is very sparse on setup for iDevices.

  • Sending & receiving mail problems in Yosemite

I have had continuous problems wt my Comcast mail for months now. The problem started after I did a clean install of Yosemite. My mail settings, and passwords are all correct. I used connection doctor, and it said that I had two Comcast.net smtp accounts. One was green, while the other was red. I'm quite sure that I only have one, that I set up, but still deleted my Comcast mail account, hoping that this would remove the offending account. I removed it, and checked connection doctor again. It still says trying to log in to this Comcast SMTP account failed. Verify that the username, and password are correct. This is really confusing me, because I no longer even have a Comcast account account, even set up in mail. I am guessing that the extra offending Comcast account is to blame, but I can't seem to locate or delete it from my mac. Any ideas why I can't Comcast to work?

I believe I fixed the problem wt some internet searching, and help from above. I read on another site, that sometimes if you have multiple passwords in your keychain for mail, it can cause problems. I checked my keychain, and sure enough, I had 3 different passwords, set up for my dektop mail account. One of them, was the password, that Comcast had changed my email too, when I had called them previously about the problem. I had changed it back, but the older one in the keychain was still inadvertently taking control. I removed all of my desktop mail  login from the keychain, deleted all email accounts in my mac for good measure, and then added them again. I changed my password also through Comcast, from the goofy one they chose. So far all of my mail accounts are working A-Ok. Should I have removed the older passwords from my keychain? I change online email passwords occasionally, on the Internet, but never had a problem wt my keychain mixing up passwords before.

  • Why can I not retrieve recent Comcast mail messages?

Five days ago my Mail app stopped retrieving new messages from my Comcast mail account. I have deleted the account, rebooted the iphone 4, and set up my mail account again. It will retrieve 50 messages, stopping with a message I received 5 days ago. Oddly, it seems to be picking up mostly email from individuals and not the e-mail I received from businesses, as if the iPhone is filtering out what it thinks is spam. Updates to mail state that it was updated at xx time but it retrieves no new messages. I can continue to send email but I can only see it when I log in through a web browser or Mozilla.
I double checked the port settings against what Comcast published and they match what the iPhone auto-detected. Any suggestions?

I have same problem.  Only with one of my three emails. Two of my emails work fine.  One of my emails on my iPhone 5, with version 6.1.4 software, does the same problem.  I can send emails fine.  but when I try to download receved emails, I only receive emails dated 8-30-13 and before.  None of my recently received emails download to my iPhone 5.  However, the emails work fine on my computer mail client on my Mac.  Is there a glitch in Apple that caused this?  Please help.

  • Mail Problems - SMTP server not responding: "offline"

I am currently testing DSL service for a month; set up Mail just before I downloaded the 10.7.3 release. Tested it once and it worked; did not use it to send emails since because I am only testing this (including the email address). I have been receiving emails (which I forwarded to myself from my cable provider's website); today, I wanted to send an email and a 6 hour troubleshooting saga began....
Total of 2 hours with Centurylink tech support; 1 1/2 hours with Applecare, and another 30 minutes with Centurylink.
During that time, all different settings were tried, turned on/off. POP server ok, SMTP server not responding. With Applecare, tried it on both the iMac and the Macbook; also tried it after booting into Snow Leopard - SMTP server not responding ("offline"). Applecare tech stated that it has to be the server since we tried it on two machines as well as SL. Centurylink insists there is nothing wrong with their server, but it's Mail's fault.
So, I finally gave up for the evening, but wonder if there is something amiss with Mail in 10.7.3 (both machines are on the same version) and during the troubleshooting, I noticed an anomaly: in a new message window, there was no choice to choose an account to send from which I thought was odd.
I was thinking of a new install or to clone back? My clones are up to date though, I have no older clones. I do have a fresh install but it's also the latest one from MAS. Or I could just boot from the fresh install and set up Mail to see if it would work?
    Grateful for any ideas....

Thanks to everyone; as you can imagine, all settings/configurations were tried yesterday (even booting into SL); Apple said it's Centurylink's fault, and they insisted there was nothing wrong with their server.
FWIW, I unplugged my Comcast cable (it is still active though and I'm getting TV reception, just unplugged the modem for now); right now, my internet access and email account are with Centurylink for the test. I still access my Comcast mail via their web interface email account.
Anyway, thanks to a good friend's idea, I decided to check keychain access and to make it short: the issue is fixed and the problem definitely had something to do with the OS because:
When I first checked keychain, this is what I saw:
I then checked Comcast settings and there were two: one was checked "allow all apps..." and the other had the "confirm" with Mail listed under the applications.
So I figured it's so screwed up, I probably can't make it any worse, so I deleted the Internet Accounts and added Mail to the smtp.centurylink...:
And......... it then worked! These default "internetaccounts" obviously aren't being recognized by Centurylink's server?
And, to make sure that was it, I not only did the same thing on the Macbook, but also booted into a pristine "backup" fresh install (no added apps or files, just default OS), launched Mail and couldn't send. Launched Keychain, changed the apps to Mail, and I was able to send email.
I would call that a bug? Or not? In any case, I'll be calling back Applecare and tell them to add the above to the very long log from yesterday and to make a note that "internetaccounts" doesn't work with everything.

  • Upgrade install to 10.5 Mail problems solution

Ok, I am posting this after 2 days of research why Mail behaves crazily after I installed 10.5 via update. I tried archive and install as well with same Mail problems resulting.
Now maybe this wont work for everybody, but it solved all my problems like a charm resulting in Mail working perfectly now.
After one whole annoying day behind the forums I just thought I should post it.
The basic problem was that my Mail didn't want to receive messages while the progress bars were just spinning infinite. Quitting Mail had to be done via Force Quite to stop it.
First thing i noticed was that if I open "*Previous recipients*" panel I get the everlasting spinning beach ball.
So I gathered that there must be some problem in the communication between Mail and Address Book. I backuped the Address Book database and deleted everything I could find connected with Address Book.
Next step was going to Mail folder in my User Library where I deleted all mailboxes .plists and mails because I had some messages I couldn't delete in Mail app. I also deleted other .plist files.
Then I reinstalled Address Book via additional install and rebooted the machine.
Address Book now contained no addresses. I opened Mail, and bingo everything started working, opening "previous recipients" showed 0 contacts and I starter using Mail without problems.
To finish the thing, just backup Address Book ad voila.
Now, maybe that won't sort out everybody's problem, but it sure did mine. And I had all Mail problems described on this forum while sing Mail.
Good luck fixing this highly annoying Leopard feature!

    Hi,
Same thing here. All printers gone. Archive & Install 10.5 on a 2.33Ghz MBP. Cannot find my network printers. Tried everything I can think of. When I boot from my external drive (10.4.9) everything works great. Leopard also ate my company VPN and won't give it back. Any help would be welcome.

  • Many syncing and e-mail problems.

Hi folks, lots of syncing and e-mail problems here:
Syncing: My phone won't sync iCal (it tells me my phone is disconnected), my safari bookmarks or my email accounts. I've been through the threads here, tried resetting iSync, tried deleting calendars and resetting to 10 days instead of 30 -- still no luck. For e-mail, initially iTunes saw the e-mail accounts but did not sync theml. I tried the one-time advance settings and now it's not even seeing the accounts and still not syncing them. and for Safari, no luck with the bookmarks at all even thought the check-box is checked.
Also, the iPhone won't receive e-mail from any of my POP accounts, even the one I set by hand (because none of the settings synced.) I used the same settings that I have on my desktop, but no luck. I use RoadRunner, so I know I can't send off it. But I went to the genius bar today and they told me to just leave the SMTP server field blank and I should be able to receive, but all I get on wi-fi and edge is a message that says, "Cannot Get Mail, the connection to the server "pop-xxxxxx etc" failed." even on my home netowrk, with five bars, it can't seem to connect. (btw, it does seem to be working properly on my .Mac account, but I don't use that account for most of my correspondence.)
As far as the sync problems, the genius bar told me to reinstall iTunes, which I did with the new update that just came out this evening. Still no luck.
any thoughts? bum phone? some setting I'm not catching? any help would be appreciated.
    Dave
    Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

You will find the iPhone will freak out over any kind of perceived data corruption. Calendars seem to the worst for this (windows or mac)
Test in a new user and try sending info in each direction. If it works - then your phone works fine.
Other users have reported having to basically copy the contents of their calendars into a sticky or text edit window. delete the calendars and create brand new ones. they then just transfer the data back.

  • E71 E-Mail Key and Related Mail Problems

Since my E71 was updated to the latest firmware (at a Nokia Service Center) around 6 months ago I have had a number of odd mail problems, which manifest themselves as follows:
After an initial boot everything with mail and messaging works fine as expected. However at least once or twice a day the phone switches unpredictably into an odd mode with the following symptoms:
      1) E-Mail key stops responding to short or long presses.
      2) New e-mails and sms messages which arrive do not appear on the home screen as usual, though they may (or may not) appear as small icons in the top right corner of the screen.
      3) For new e-mails only the title/header is downloaded, whereas usually I have it set to automatically download the first 2 K of each message.
      4) New messages still appear as 'unread' even after reading them. Manually setting them to 'read' works, but only after a long delay.
      5) The flashing navigation key light which warns of new messages/mails gets stuck in flashing mode and will not stop until the phone is rebooted.
Problems 1-3 occur every time, and 4&5 occasionally, but all can only be cured by rebooting the phone, after which it works fine again - for a while.
Since I first saw this problem I have updated the firmware twice (it is currently on the latest version), but the problem persists. I wonder if anyone has seen this problem or has any idea how to fix it? It's a great irritation with an otherwise excellent phone, especially since it was all working fine when I first purchased it. Thanks for any comments or suggestions

For anyone who is interested, I've found the answer to my own question, though not the solution to my problem. After several days playing with mail settings I noticed that when Retrieval settings > E-mail to retrieve is set to 'Headers only' or ' Msgs & attachs', there is no problem. However, if it is set to 'Size limit' with a setting of say 2K or 5K (i.e. just enough to capture the first few important paragraphs of any message) then receipt of many types of formatted mails larger than the specified size causes the mail program to crash, and the OS to switch into the odd mode described in my earlier post.
This is particularly irritating since I travel frequently overseas in Asia where roaming GSM data use is expensive (and there are no caps or limits on roaming fees), and due to the nature of my work my e-mails typically come with long threads and large attachments. Therefore I am left with the choice between:
         A) Downloading mail headers only and waiting till I can find a WiFi connection to find out what the message actually says
         B) Downloading the whole message and paying many hundreds of dollars a month in data roaming fees
         C) Using the fixed mail size limit setting and accept that my mail program will crash several times a day and
require the phone to be rebooted each time to restore normal functionality
Anyway, it seem this problem is clearly due a bug with the Nokia mail software in recent builds, since it worked fine with these exact same settings for the first year I had the phone, and repeated clean re-installs of the latest firmware do not fix the problem. Therefore, if any Nokia developers are monitoring this board you can add this to your bug list, and you know where to start looking for the bad bit of code.

  • Mail problems on Yosemite

    Hi there,
Does anybody know if anything is going to be done regarding the mail problem on Yosemite?
this was a recurring on Maverics too...
Since i updated to Yosemite, mail does not work well on my iMac, i cannot get my mail... but i can send mail.
it does not seem to connect properly to my Pop account.
my mail does work well on my iPhone and other devices.
it was fine after the recent Yosemite update, and now it's back... and very frustrating,
is there anyone who can help ? or anyone at Apple that is going to fix it for once and for all ?
    Thanks.

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
