Comcast modem and apple tv

Has this happened to anyone? Purchased our 3rd apple tv recently after first generation one no longer worked. It is located next to Comcast cable modem and the our airport router and older DVI in large TV /so have to use HDMI switch box. When i turn it on, it grabs the comcast IP to my airport and won't let me change it manually. My entire network goes offline and of course, no access to the internet. The appleTV moved to another room, TV works fine. Tried setting IP address manually there and switch back it's location. Nope, took network IP again. Connecting by ethernet cable didn't take IP but would't connect to network- couldn't input password??
thoughts?? [besides super long hdmi cable to end of room…..]
Thanks,

I have had problems with missing AirPlay icon on both iPad and iPhone. I have had loooong conversations with the People at Apple - Nice people but no solution. If you have upgraded to newest software on iPad, Apple tv and iPhone, and have connected to the same router, and still have problems, the problem is 100 % the router. I have tried with 3 different routers. All working perfectly except AirPlay. It was a Zyxel, d-link and Sagem router. The Zyxel router I could'nt get to work. Both d-link and Sagem worked without any problems. Today I use the Sagem. So if your AirPlay icon is instable or do not appear, and all is upgraded to latest level, then try with another router.

  • Using TimeCapsule with a Comcast modem AND Airport Express. Way slower after updates! What's up?

I've been running this set up for two years now without a hitch.  Comcast Modem to TimeCapsule by Ethernet.  Then TimeCapsule to Airport Express via WiFi.  It used to work great because my TC was far away from my family room and the AE extended my network flawlessly.
After Mavericks and IOS 7.06 installations on my devices (iMac, Macbook Air,  iPhone, and iPad) my wifi seems to be moving at half speed.  I've rebooted the Comcast Modem and  TimeCapsule. I guess I should reboot airport express as well.  But I doubt thats the problem.  I was thinking of asking Comcast to change out Modems but this is a new problem only since updates. What should I do?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Marylyn

Power off the entire network.....all devices....computers, printers, modem, TC, mobile devices, etc
    Wait a few minutes
Start the modem first, and let it run a few minutes by itself
Start the TC next and let it run a full minute
Keep starting devices one a time about a minute apart until the entire network is powered back up
    Check the network

  • Trying to setup TC to the internet (Comcast modem) and does not connect.

I'm replacing my old Netgear WiFi router with the TC.  The provider is Comcast via their modem but, after setting up TC it does not connect to the internet.  Of course Comcast service doesn't answer.  I've tried the usual, unplugging the modem and TC and reconnecting, then resetting, etc, no connection to the internet.  Do I need to directly bypass the WiFi router to start and connect the computer first and capture the DNS settings?  Comcast usually does that automatically.  After that connect TC to the modem and then manually edit settings?  What settings use I edit?

Is the comcast modem a pure modem or also a router?
If it is a pure modem.. the TC must be in router mode.
If it has been used in another setup or is just being difficult .. reset the TC to factory and start over.
It is simply in DCHP and NAT for network setup.. it should get an IP and share it by default.
Normally you need to turn off the modem for several minutes to make the ISP gateway give up the MAC address of last connected item.
Tell us the exact model of the modem if the above doesn't work.
    Is the TC new one?

  • Can I use Airport Express with Comcast router and Apple TV?

I want to connect my iPod Touch (version 8.1.2) to a home stereo wirelessly.  I am considering getting an AE Base Station.  I have a Mac mini running OSX 10.9.5 connected wirelessly using a Comcast router.  I also have an Apple TV, which I have not yet connected to my TV.  Here are some questions.
Are there any problems with doing this.  In particular, can I continue to use the Comcast router?
Also, I have seen some comments saying that the cable modem slowed down when AE was added.  Is that true?  Thanks,
    Owen

The stereo doesn't have wireless (or bluetooth).
My understanding is that the iPod Touch has a built-in airplay transmitter.
If so,  connecting the AE Base Station to my stereo would allow sending music from my iPod to my stereo.
    Is that correct?  Thanks.

  • IMac with cable modem and apple AirPort Extreme base station

AirPort Extreme setup 2 weeks ago and workred fine. Then upgrade to lion 10.8.3 started problem.  Computer shows no Internet ( yellow light) for "Internet" but green light on AX.  Cable modem actually shows connection to Internet at gigabit speed.  Wireless ipad works fine.  Computer will not access Internet either wireless or thru Ethernet.  Must be a setting I am missing somewhere?

Solved my problem.  I had checked, in the Apple Preferences folder, internet share.  I unchecked it and everything performed like before.  Thanks, self.

  • New comcast modem and router

My internet used to sometimes lag a lot randomly so I decided to get the new modem that was also a router. All of my friends had it and it worked perfectly for everything. When I got it I tried to skype my friend and play some Team Fortress 2 with him but in the game I had 1,000 ping and he sounded like a robot. I tried turning on bridge mode and to connect my other router. That worked a bit better but I still couldn't call and play Team Fortress 2. It also randomly drops out and just can't connect to the internet at all.

You should be able to substitute the TC for the netgear.. although you might find the wireless range is somewhat less.
Power down both the netgear and the cable modem.. plus all the clients.. leave the modem off for 5min at least.. maybe 15min..
Put the TC in place of the Netgear.. you do not need to change the name, although PC will work better if you keep everything SMB compatible.. that means both TC name and wireless names, short, no spaces.. pure alphanumeric.
Power up the modem.. wait 2min then power up the TC, then the rest of the clients.. check in airport utility to make sure the TC got public iP on  the wan interface.

  • Setting up with Vonage and Comcast modems

I've tried twice to set up my TC to no avail. I know I'm not doing something right but am unsure what it is. I've read the manuals--I'm a bit challenged in these areas.
My current set up is: Comcast modem to Vonage modem; Vonage modem to Airport extreme, and, to a router for our home which is wired. What I've tried:
Comcast to Vonage to TC / router--the computers could not see TC or only saw it temporarily.
Comcast to TC to Vonage / router--No wireless, no internet, and lost Vonage phone service. Plus, I could not get the TC light to stop flashing amber.
I have enjoyed immensely the simplicity of Apple when setting up the wireless network. But I am stumped. What am I overlooking?

Are you referring to Time Capsule as assuming the role of the main router, which is currently a Linksys Etherfast DSL/Cable Router Model BEFSR41? So this router is no longer required?
Here's what I think you are proposing:
    1. Comcast modem to WAN port on Time Capsule (replaces Linksys Etherfast)
    2. Connect Vonage to LAN port on Time Capsule
    3. Connect the second router (10/100 8-Port Workgroup Switch Model EZXS88W) to LAN Port on Time Capsule
    4. Put the second router in bridge mode
The Airport Express would be removed in favor of Time Capsule so not sure what wireless preference is being referred to for the second routeer.

  • Time Capsule used as router attached to Comcast Modem. wireless stops working. All I have to do is unplug the TC and plug it back in and TC cycles up and have green light as well as the Comcast modem operates correctly. TC 4 yrs old. How do I correct?

Time Capsule used as router attached to Comcast Modem. Wireless stops working with no light showing and Link indicator on modem off.
All I have to do is unplug the TC and plug it back in.
TC cycles up and green light appears as well as the Comcast modem operates correctly.
TC 4 yrs old. How do I correct?

I have the latest and greatest Time Capsule and Comcast. Here is the weird thing. If I have one network set up, then occasionally that network will wedge. If I set up a 5GHz and a 2.4GHz network, then one of them (usually the 5GHz) will wedge. I saw this with a previous Time Capsule, Apple said call Comcast. They checked it out and said it was Apple's problem. Apple said maybe you Time Capsule is bad, so I bought a new one. The problem persists.
Tonight it's not complely wedged, but super slow. The 5GHz network is getting 0.45Mb/s while the 2.4GHz network is getting 17Mb/s. Both are coming in from the same Comcast cable modem. Apparently the Time Capsule treats them as separate.
Is it the cable modem or the Time Capsule. I am betting on the Time Capsule, since rebooting it fixes the problem. Resetting the cable modem does not.
Apple is NO HELP at all. They say reset the Time Capsule. Did that fix it? Yes. Problem solved! No, problem not solved. It will happen again in a few hours.

  • Airport capsule and Comcast modem

I just bought the airport and time capsule and have it installed and working perfectly.  Now Comcast sent me a new modem to "take advantage of all Xfinity has to offer."  Should I install that modem or not.  Does the Airport have it own modem and router?  That was my understanding.

The apple routers do not have a modem.. you must use a modem.. either supplied by your ISP or purchased by you.. and unfortunately this is almost never successful unless you reset the apple router back to factory settings and start over.
If you want the higher speed you will probably need to install the new modem.. then the fun begins.. is it a pure modem or also a router?? There should be just one router in the network.. but if the supplied modem is also a router it is better to bridge the TC.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
Generally someone only has the choice of one or two broadband ISPs. If service from Comcast is reliable, I'd go with them if they can supply you with a "dumb" (i.e., no router functionality) modem. That should make setup of an AirPort Extreme very simple.
Reliability is the most important thing. In theory you only need configure things once, but you're dependent on reliability every day.
By the way, is there a reason you posted your message in the section for "AirPort for Windows"?

  • My apple tv keeps losing internet connection. I'm going from modem to airport and from airport to apple tv. I've replaced the modem and the apple tv and it still does it. Internet to my laptop via the airport wifi is fine and never drops out.

I keep having to restart it every time I want to use it. Sometimes I have to restart it multiple times. The cord goes from the cable modem to the airport and then from the airport to the apple tv. I've replaced the apple TV and I've replaced the modem and the problem persists. I assume it has to be the aiport? But the wifi from the airport works fine.
I tried bypassing the airport and going straight from the modem to the apple tv and it wouldn't work. That makes no sense to me.
I had a friend over to try and figure it out and he couldn't. Any idea what could be the problem??

The Ethernet cable from the modem should be connected to the AirPort's WAN (circle of dots) port and a second Ethernet cable should be connected between the AirPort's LAN (opposing arrows) port and the Ethernet port on the Apple TV. Is this the case?
If so, what is the make & model of the modem that the AirPort is connected to. Also what is the exact model of both the AirPort and the Apple TV?

  • Solution sought: fax from apps in OX 10.7, via fax modem and Comcast cable svc.

recently relocated from the rural mountains into the city...  previous fax communications achieved via dedicated phone line and hp 3330mfp... now confronted with Comcast cable and the bundled services... previous fax services are now antiquated and had to be retired... intend to use apps "print to fax" capability and a 3rd party fax modem, interfacing with a Comcast high speed modem...  has anyone experienced or worked their way through such an issue, or is there an alternate solution to resolve my problem???  many thanks for your attention to my question...

Almost everyone I know who asks for a fax, is perfectly happy to get a 200 dpi black+white scan in TIF format attached to an email.

  • What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

What ADSL modem do you advise to use with my new airport extreme? I have tried a basic TP-Link ADSL2+  modem and I can't get the configuration working. What modem does Apple recommend?

Ok well I have looked around some more and have found this to be the most up to date official response to my question as seen at this link here:
    http://www.actiontec.com/support/product_details.php?pid=41#q27
Can I Bridge the Actiontec MI424WR router that Verizon provided, when I signed up for FiOS service?
The MI424WR does not have a bridging option, and neither Verizon nor Actiontec support attempting to bridge it.
The desire to bridge the MI424WR is based on a misunderstanding that it is a modem as well as a router. Actiontec does produce DSL Gateways that have a Transparent-Bridging option, which bypasses or disables the router function and allows the Gateway to act simply as a DSL modem, when it is enabled. Many consumers do not realize that with FiOS, the ONT (typically outside the home) is the device that handles changing the FiOS signal from Fiber to either Ethernet or Coax, and that the Router is just a Router, and if it was bridged or bypassed, it would be a device without a function. For most Verizon FiOS customers their service would completely stop if the MI424WR was bridged, because the Video on Demand service is dependent on it to work.
If your ONT is connected to the Actiontec MI424WR router via Coax, the MI424WR is required due to the Coax connection. But if the ONT is connected to the MI424WR via Ethernet, then in most cases some other router can be substituted for the MI424WR, and it can be removed."
So it looks like I will be calling Verizon support to see about getting the Ethernet connection installed and getting another modem...
