Comcast took over my firefox browser and home page, how do I get comcast out of my firefox

I moved to a new area and comcast installed the service here. The installation and set up of the modem asked me to install a toolbar and I opted out because I see no use in comcast services. Comcast installed some thing like malware that took over safari chrome and firefox where all of the home pages were converted to their site. Safari required being reset and chrome I removed and reinstalled. Firefox has been completely taken over, I have uninstalled it 3 times and tried safe mode and just about everything else. I spent 2 hours on the phone with comcast to no avail and my feeling on it is that firefox is the most popular browser and comcast wants part of that so they have developed their own little malware to get in on firefox. What can I do as customer or user of firefox to get rid of comcast and their browser and home page and get back to what I am comfortable with which is firefox and my npr home page.

Sorry, if resetting your homepage in Firefox doesn't work or that change is only temporary until the next time you use your PC or restart it, you need to uninstall that Comcast Toolbar from your PC. I don't know how or where that Comcast Toolbar for Firefox is installed, so you'll need to figure that out yourself.
The first place to look is the Windows Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs, and it is there '''Remove''' it.
Second place is in the Firefox Add-ons Manager tab - '''{ Ctrl + Shft + A }''' - if you find it there, '''Uninstall''' it from Firefox.
If you are able to get rid of that Comcast Toolbar and still have problems with not being able to set your choice for a homepage, let us know. There are a couple of places that may have been messed with by that application, like a user.js file or the prefs.js file.
I'm a Comcast user, too, although I have had this cable service for over 10 years now, with the two previous owners of the franchise for this area before Comcast bought out AT&T Cable. All three companies recommended that I have their "software" installed and I refused it each time. I told them if it was "required", they could close my account, that I would go elsewhere.

  • After setting Firefox as my home page how do I get Firefox to open my AOL E-mail? in English

Under Firefox's "How to set home page" it states "you can set the Firefox home button to open your e-mail"
    How do you do this?

    Hi Lelor,
You should look at [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firefox+has+just+updated+tab+shows+each+time+you+start+Firefox this article about that specific issue] and the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved]. It might be a pref.js issue. These should give you all the information you need!
    If that doesn't work:
    # Type about:config in the address bar
    # Click ''I'll be careful, I promise'' if prompted
    # In the Filter input field type ''startup''
    # Double click on startup.homepage_override_url
    # Delete the text string and click ''OK''
    # Close Firefox and reopen the window to verify that it has worked.
    Hopefully this helps!

There are a few possible causes for that error, for details see [[Firefox is already running but is not responding]].

I have accidently deleted the App store icon off my home page, how do I get it back do I nave to re download??

Swipe through your screens and swipe to the left of your Home screen. Type in App Store in the search field. It's a permanent pre installed Apple app so it can't be deleted.

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • I had to reload Firefox and no longer have the little house that indicated my home page; how do I get it back?

I had to reload Firefox and no longer have the little house in the Navigation toolbar that allows me to click on it and return to my homepage. How do I get it back?

You can find the toolbar Home button at the far right end of the Navigation Toolbar.
You can drag the Home button from its current position at the right to the previous position at the left of the location bar if you do not like that new position.

  • Firefox properly goes to my set home pages; how do I get it to use my preferred SEARCH ENGINE (without having to be able to PROGRAM)?

I want to choose the search engine; Firefox goes to Google. My home pages are properly set. The only solution offered to this question earlier would have you go to Web Developer and instantly was WAY over my head. How can an ordinary person change this? Thank you.

Is this for Firefox on your Windows 7 system?
You might have hidden or disabled a custom toolbar. To see whether it just needs to be turned on again, you can try one of these methods to access the toolbar list:
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar (or the new tab "+") button
    * tap the Alt key, then View menu > Toolbars
If the bar is missing, check to see whether a corresponding extension is disabled. You can do that on the Add-ons page here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
    Can you find it?
If not, do you recall what site provides the button/bar? Maybe you'll need to reinstall it.

  • When i open the firefox browser the home page is shifted towards my right and remains the same for any web page i opem

any page i open the page is hsifted towards my right

I did manage to paste that code in the location bar and for that brief episode I had a google search engine for the fire start page. However, when I closed id down and re-booted the page, it reverted to ask.com as the primary search engine so that really did not solve my problem. By the way, the start page that I have does not show google to the left of the large central bar of the start page. I wonder if I should uninstall google 7 and reinstall it? I probably would lose my favorites and I don't want to lose them by doing this. Somewhere in this computer ask.com is flourishing just like a virus. I removed it's toolbar permanently both in extensions and in the programs section to no avail.

  • I have two firefox icons running horizontally at the bottom of my home page, how do I get rid of Firefox (2)?

Don't think I need two FireFox icons, especially the one that says FireFox (2)

I am guessing that this is just something pinned to the Windows launcher, and so someone more familiar with Windows may do better at answering it.
If you attach a screenshot it may help me understand what you are seeing
*[[How do I create a screenshot of my problem?]]
Note however there is a problem with some Firefox installations on Windows, and that the registry could have been updated incorrectly so that you appear to have 2 copies of windows when only one is present. <br/>In such circumstances do NOT try uninstalling or you loose Firefox, and do NOT use any option to remove personal information, becaause that tries to destroy bookmarks, passwords and other settings from all normally installed versions of Firefox.

  • TA38616 I accidentally deleted the safari browser and itunes. How do I get them back?

I had Safari and Itunes on my homepage of my iPhone 5 just s few minutes ago. i picked up the phone to use it and Safari and Itunes were gone! What do I do  now???? Restore the phone?

You're not addressing Apple here. We're all just your fellow users.
It is not possible to delete either iTunes or Safari. Check Settings>General>Restrictions. Do you have them restricted? Are you using a corporate Exchange account? Your administrator could have restricted access. If neither of those things are true, they're there somewhere. Check all the screens and folders. You can also go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Homescreen Layout. This will return the arranment of apps to their factory positions. Both of those apps should then be on the first page.
