Come on Nokia, why no built in wifi Hotspot ?

Why is it that even budget Android smartphones have a wifi hotspot feature built in and Nokia Belle does not?
Before some troll points it out, I KNOW that I can buy a third party app to provide this function but to me that is nowhere near as good as built-in and manufacturer supported.
I understand that the N9 has the function (Joiku) app presinstalled but looking at the other posts on here for that phone it seems that its not really a 'proper' hotspot, and does not always work well.  I just ordered a C5-03 for my other half and was very close to choosing an Android phone just because of the ease of use of the wifi hotspot feature for her.
So interested to hear your comments. Maybe if many people here agree with me then someone at Nokia will notice, and we will all see a wifi hotspot feature in future editions of Symbian ^3
Now running a 701, beautiful phone to handle and use...now that it has stopped sending my personal information to Nokia via 360Panel [rolls eyes]

Haven't installed a host file addition yet then?
That blocks your computer from accessing the "crap" of the internet.
You need these things:
1: A free copy of TextWrangler from BareBones
2: TextEdit open
3: Select all copy everything on this page (bookmark it)
http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.txt
4: Paste into Text Edit and remove the lines
127.0.0.1  localhost
::1  localhost #[IPv6]
5: Do a find and replace for all instances of 127.0.0.1 and replace with 0.0.0.0
6: Select all and copy
7: Open TextWrangler and file by name /etc/hosts
Do not touch what you see there, just add some spaces at the bottom and paste
8: Save the file with your Admin password
Done, you have just blocked the crap of the Internet
9: update just that portion you added every couple of months from the same source.
note: the file is designed for Windows, so all you want is the sites to block to work with Mac,
like
127.0.0.1  fr.a2dfp.net
also because of a glitch you need to change 127.0.0.1 to 0.0.0.0 to work with OS X better.
anything with a "#" in front means to "ignore this line" to the computer, so those lines are safe to copy and use.

  • Galaxy Nexus - Built In WiFi Hotspot Charges???

Hi, I own a Galaxy Nexus phone that came with 4.1 JellyBean. I am loving it so far, and as I was looking through the settings, I noticed that there was an option to turn on WiFi hotspot. I wanted to test it out, so I turned it on briefly and it did not seem to open any pop up stating that I should call or go to the Verizon website to activate hotspot. Does this mean the Hotspot is free? Or will it go onto my bill automatically? (I'm just wondering if I should begin searching for a good Free WiFi hotspot app, because I would definitely rather use the one provided with the phone.)
    Thanks, have a great day.

If you are on the Share Everything plan, wifi hotspot is included.  If you are on one of the grandfathered Family Share plans with tiered data, hotspot is $20 per month for 2 GB (for those who still have unlimited data, hotspot is $30).

hello guys whether nokia's gonna provide the WiFi hotspot service in Nokia lumia 710 via a firmware update

unfortunately, there is no way to tell until an update is actually released.
MS does not usually talk prematurely about what they are working on for thier changelog regarding anything, including new features, and bug fixes. :/
    just have to wait!

why is the Good Wife latest episode still not available on Itunes Canada?

FYI, the two episodes currently missing from iTunes Canada (Nov 17 "The Next Month" and Nov 24 "Whack-a-Mole") are available online for Global TV "subscribers":
    http://www.globaltv.com/thegoodwife/
None of us are realy "Global TV subscribers", we are customers of one TV service provider or another, aka cable and satellite companies. Alas, I am in the situation where my service provider - Bell TV - has apparently not yet reached an agreement with Global, so I am hooped twice. I paid iTunes for a season pass that seems to have stopped delvering content. And I pay Bell TV for content which Global says I can only get in online form once Global and Bell reach some kind of agreement, although Shaw, Telus and Cogeco subscribers are already receiving it.
    https://www.globaltv.com/signin/
Be nice if these companies could get their acts together, especially Apple iTunes.
I've paid them $49.99 for the Good Wife season pass.

  • Why do you need WiFi to watch a downloaded movie?

I bought a movie on my Ipod touch and watched half of it. Then when I went to finish it, It would not come on due to "no Wifi connection". Why do I need WiFi connection to watch a movie I just downloaded?

There's downloading and streaming. And often hard to tell the two apart.
Downloading means that the files are stored on your device, streaming means that you simply access them, but need to be on the net to do so. It sounds like you were streaming a movie, not downloading one.

Why does my airport wifi icon now say "No Hardware installed" It has been working for ever

This message comes up when your Mac no longer recognizes that there is an operational AirPort card installed. This can be due to a number of reasons, including card or antenna cabling failure.
You can try either a PRAM or SMC reset. Which you choose will depend on the exact model of your Mac, but most likely, a visit to your local Apple Store is in order.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • Why won't my wifi stay connected with lion

I recently installed lion on my imac.  Why won't my wifi stay connected after I shut it down

This has been well discussed on another thread here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191630?start=2055&tstart=0
(There appear to be no moderators on these forums to make sure that new threads with the same topic don't get linked to a parent !?)
Anyway... The issues appear for many to be related to a specific Airport card type & firmware version.
I've had constant disconnect problems with my Mini since upgrading to Lion.
    My Airport card specs are:
Card Type:                              AirPort Extreme  (0x168C, 0x86)
      Firmware Version:                    Atheros 5424: 2.1.14.9
Connecting to my Time Capsule distributing on:
              PHY Mode:          802.11a
The Atheros firmware version appears to be the issue depending on certain wifi network conditions.
After some playing about today I think I've managed to force my Mini to connect on a better frequency, without having to roll back the firmware to the Snow Leopard version or mess with the Mini Airport card settings (via Terminal) by changing some settings in my router (Time Capsule).
These are the changes I made:
Airport Utility > Wireless > Wireless Options
    Set Radio Mode to 802.11 a/n - b/g instead of 802.11 a/n - b/g/n (Automatic)
Set 2.4 GHz Channel to 13 instead of Automatic
Set 5GHz Channel to 48 instead of Automatic
    My Mini now connects on:
    PHY Mode:          802.11g
    Signal / Noise:          -64 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          54
    instead of previously
    PHY Mode:          802.11a
    Signal / Noise: -73 dBm / -96 dBm
    Transmit Rate: 36
This appears now to be stable (no drops in the last 4 hours). It's a low transmit rate still, but better than before.
The iMac is still connecting on
    PHY Mode:          802.11n
    Signal / Noise:          -69 dBm / -88 dBm
    Transmit Rate:          216
and all is right with the world (hopefully for the long term)

  • Does the ipad mini have built in wifi

I'm hoping to buy an ipad mini soon. But i want to use it for home and on the go. And i was wondering does the ipad mini have built in wifi? And if it does how do i turn it on. Is it like the iPhone and it gives you an option to turn on personal hotspot or what? Thanks

All iPad's have wifi capability. You do the wifi setup by using the Settings app.
You can pay extra for an iPad that has 3/4G cellular. Your iPad uses wifi when available. If not available it switches to cellular. You have to pay extra for the iPad's data plan with your chosen carrier.
If you have an iPhone, you can use it as a hotspot instead of using cellular.

why there is no wifi network showing on my iphone 4s.

i got this reply for mts yesturday...
There is no set time when LTE will be available on the iphone 5 with MTS.  The LTE network works well with MTS but currently our agreement with Apple does not allow us to activate it for the iphone 5.  However we are working with Apple to get LTE access for the phone.  I apologize about any inconvenience this may have caused you.

I want to email a Pages document as a Word doc. I used to be able to do this by clicking on 'share' then 'send via mail' then on 'Word' and an email would appear with my word doc attached.  Now the email does not come up.  Why?

It's difficult to do more than guess when you don't say what version of OS X or Pages you're running, but if you're on the latest, have you tried the Share menu -> Send via Mail command?
If that doesn't help, you may have better luck if you ask in the Pages forum:

If you wish to use the cellular capabilities of a device, you will need a SIM (unless the carrier uses CDMA which doesn't use SIMs) and you will have to pay a cell carrier. No cell company provides service for free. The only way you will get free Internet is via WiFi to a free and open WiFi access point, as sometimes is offered in public buildings or by some businesses.
