  • EMV Card Personalization steps....

    Hello,
I am working in EMV personalization and very new here. I received a Java Card and a Spec for its personalization. Here I have some confusion. ( Actually we take services for third party, here we just put values according to profile in boxes and it use it internally and personalize the card)
1- I want to personalize the card by my own, I know the keys and passed external authentication here. I know about there are some data that reside in files whose SFI can be get from GPO Command. But Is there any rule that I can decide about data/TAG will definitely should present in this SFI. So that I can make a list of Tags/Data which I will put in these SFI with using STORE Data Command.
2 - There are so Many Tags in EMV. Can someone tell me about list of those TAG which are mandatory in any EMV Application. so that Initially I can focus on it. Please guide me some so that I could start sending STORE Data Command....
    Thanks in advance...................

1- You should consider the rules about data used for offline card (payment application) authentication.
2- You can take any bank chip card. Read it and use the data read as an example.

  • Sharing PIN try counter -CVM retry counter- EMV GP contactless payment card

I am trying to find out information regarding Pin try counter (referred to as the CVM retry counter in the the Global Platform 2.1.1 specs). We require a multi application card - one Mchip application and one proprietary application - The GP spec states that the PIN is shared accross applications (global PIN) however I am trying to find out the status of PIN try counter -can it be shared accross applications or is this not feasible? Also same question regarding the application transaction counter (ATC).
GP spec is not clear on this - but it seems that counter sharing is not a requirement. Even if not a requirement, is it possible? Thanks
    GP spec states:
The CVM state may be used by an Application to assist in managing PIN related functions. The non-atomic states
of the CVM may be seen within a Card Session. The CVM state, the Retry Limit, and the Retry Counter are
closely related. All CVM state transitions are immediately visible to the Application that caused the transition as
well as to any Applications that may be selected on other logical channels.

Thanks for your reply. Pin try counter (PTC) sharing is very common in contact EMV cards, we have been led to believe that there is an architecture issue in the contactless cards that makes PTC sharing more difficult (no problem with our Mchip contact cards with same applictions resident). From what I understand, in the contactless environment, firewalls exist around each "application" that prevent the sharing of most data other that the global PIN.
We require the PTC to be shard for the use case in which the PTC is blown and a PTC reset script must be sent to the card. The scripts generally only update data in the active appliction and not the other apps residing on the card, therefore if you have multiple PTCs, the correct one might not be updated by the script. This is very problematic for us.

  • How SDA and DDA works in Java Card?

    Hi Friends,
I want to know how exactly SDA and DDA works in Java Card technology..
Yes, i know that SDA (Static Data Authentication) is valid for every transactions, but the key used is always same for every transaction made..
and DDA (Dynamic Data Authentication) uses dynamic key for every transactions, it means that one key is valid for one transaction..
But, i'm a little bit confused how this is implemented in Java Card..
Is it related with SCP01 and SCP02?..
    Please help me regarding this..
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
I want to know how exactly SDA and DDA works in Java Card technology..This is an EMV concept and as such is not implemented in Java Card as such. You would have to create an implementation to be able to use SDA and DDA.
But, i'm a little bit confused how this is implemented in Java Card..
Is it related with SCP01 and SCP02?..It is not implemented natively in Java Card and are not related to SCP. SDA and DDA are for the EMV card application (card application data updates) and SCP is for the card manager (card content updates). While they could be considered similar concepts, they are not related in a Java Card sense.
    Cheers,
    Shane

  • Comenity saturation point

A question I'd like to put out there for the board. I've enjoyed the nice Comenity store card CLI's as much as anyone and appreciate them. I try to do them in moderation although Barney's has gone a little crazy for all of us! I also have some new Comenity Signature Visas and a new Comenity Capital Mastercard. In the past, posters have mentioned that Synchrony has maximums and saturation points with the amount of credit they give out. I'm wondering if the same can be true of Comenity in months to come. Right now it seems limitless to many people. But personally, I'd rather save the CLI's for the Comenity Signature Visas and Mastercard if taking larger CLI's on the Comenity store cards meant less chance of CLI's on the major cc's or smaller VISA and MC CLI's due to taking it on the store cards. This may or may not happen going forward, but since pretty much every bank has a saturation point, wanted to put it out thre for discussion. This issue is a little separate from using common sense when requesting CLI's, which it helps for us all to do. That's not really the issue (although a good point). It's more of a planful or strategic requesting of CLI's and for those of us who have Comenity Visa and MC, something to consider. No bank is limitless in what it gives out. Thanks.

    One can only hope.

  • Shopping cart trick work for you?? Please add to list!

Hi all, I am making this post to explain the shopping cart trick. The shopping cart trick is from what i gathered mostly comenity bank cards. (not all of them) Go to there store, add items into your cart, go check out and put in your info (as it appears on your credit report)If that store approves you, you will recieve a pop up (or maybe a new screen) which says you are pre approved. It will have your brief info and ask you to type in your last 4 digits of your social. Some stores will say how much you are approved on the pop up (some dont) PLEASE READ THIS= -PRE APPROVAL- (which is what i am talking about) is when it says you have been PRE APPROVED (again might say amount) and asks you to ONLY TYPE IN LAST 4 DIGITS OF SOCIAL- this is what you want if you do not want it to show up on your credit report -PRE QUALIFY- this is when you have to bascially fill out a app. (type in more then the last 4 digits of social) THIS WILL SHOW UP ON YOUR CREDIT REPORT AS IT IS A HARD PULL i see many people who think they are the same.. THEY ARE NOT! not everyone will get the pre approval. If you dont, you can try in a week or maybe you need to opt in (google opt in/opt out) it is a site where you can choose whether you want to recieve offers of credit ect. If you have tried this trick..PLEASE  let us know if it has worked. I would like to get a complete list of stores to make it easier for those who wish to try, to find.  Myself, i got the pre approval for,1. victoria secret (this is usually the most easiet store from what i have heard)  $500 credit limit2. king size direct $250 limit (can also be used at 1 stop shop, brylane home and there other sister stores)-i also have a mandees store card but i got that one instore $300 limit i made accounts for both of mine before i got the pop up, not sure if that makes a difference.

  • No luck with SCT

I tried overstock and J Crew and didn't get any pop ups. I even made sure my pop up blocker was off and that I'm opted in for offers. Is it because I was in using my phone? Wasn't sure if that matters or not.

    texasmommy wrote:
Ok, I should've known that. Lol. I was hoping I'd get an offer based on my TU score. Thanks!Although the SCT doesn't work on Synchrony Bank, the best part about them is that they are mostlyTU pulls and after 2-3 months, the hard pulls generally fall off your report.  You have 3 cards and if you have loans or a mortgage, then you would have the diversity you need to help your score improve.  I've only been working on rebuilding my credit in earnest in the last 6 months.  Comenity store cards are a good way have more tradelines, but the downside is that unless you have a good score to begin with then you get some credit limits like $200-$500 and YMMV on increases.  Overstock and JCrew have grown the best for me and I think as my score improves, then I'll be able to get multiple increases at once rather than one monthly.  I guess I'm a fan of Synchrony because Sam's Club is my smallest limit and next month I plan to ask for $5k. Someone on the forum once said only get the store cards you really plan to use and they were right because I have closed 4 and I will probably close one more if I can replace it with a bank card.   Remember, each time you apply for EQ and EX, your score will take a hit, and the same with TU, but you might have better luck with Synchrony Bank.

  • Want to know about existing card_readers for linux

    hello,
I have SCM card which has linux kernel driver but i dont have any GUI frontend software. I want to know is there any existing GUI for reading and writing this card. Also can java card framwork help me to write it and how much time it will take?
    regards,
    card_coder

I am talking about card http://www.scmmicro.com/security/SCR335.html
That is a card reader (also called CAD - card acceptance device), not a card.
and want to know is there any card reader/writer application
is available in Java or not?For which smart card? There are memory cards, java cards, EMV card, GSM SIM cards, USIM cards...
Every smart card uses other commands for communication and therefore you need a different application for reading/writing them.
    i have card and its
kernel module driver but dont know how can i
read/write to that card. its pc/scYou have a kernel module for the card reader, right? It allows to use the card reader by the PC/SC interface. But you still didn't told us what smart card you have...

  • So, I was hit with an unauthorized charge for the first time...

... Certainly could've done without that in my life. Was winding down on my phone before going to sleep, and received an email from Chase. I have my phone set up so that it silences between 12:00 AM to 5:00 AM, so I have to say I was really glad I wasn't able to fall asleep tonight. Someone made a charge for $143.94 at Match.com (how can you make a charge that expensive on Match? Is the membership expensive like that...?), Chase asked me online if I authorized it. Clicked no, and they said they blocked my account, and would call me tomorrow. Logged onto my account to make sure that there were no other unauthorized charges (even though I have email alerts for charges over $1, alerts can delay or fail so you never know!) just to make sure. When I logged off, I got this as an ad: I'm covered? Yeah, no kidding, haha! Should I be concerned, still? How does Chase tend to handle things like this, are they good about it? I take identity protection really seriously. My only other card (Slate) has the same charge alerts, and has been SD since I got it (it's an emergency card). I use a privacy browser that encrypts data and blocks tracking when making online purchases. My spend tends to run around the same stores I've used for years (and I haven't been making many purchases at all, since I'm paying down balance), and since getting the EMV card, I've only made two purchases—one at Target to buy some medication, and one at Staples to fax an important document—and both with the EMV terminal. Could the information have been stolen there? I don't know, I'm still really jittery from this situation—my hands are shaking and I even feel like crying a little bit. $150 isn't a lot for other people, but it's definitely a lot for someone like me. I don't know if I'm going to be able to sleep tonight, haha...

Alright, so last night, I couldn't sleep. Sunrises can be a little slow.
Received a phone call this morning, did the song and dance, and she said I would get a new card within 3-5 days. When I hung up, because I was so rattled about this, I didn't bother to recheck the phone number to make sure it was legit! She had my personal info, but she asked me my email as well (not username or password, but...)!
I have 2-step verification on my email account, so I'm not concerned that (if the call was not legit) that they would go much further. Changed all of my passwords last night as well. And no SSN info was asked, so there's that. She also made me aware of two other previous pending charges that have been there for a few days (which are legit, I had been tracking them), so I feel slightly more sure that it was legit.
Checked back at the email and webpage provided to look at the security certificate, and it checks out fine. Nevertheless, I called at the back of my card because, by then, I was already nearly crying over my oversight--anxiety issues and a lack of sleep will do that to you, heh...
This CSR tells me that, indeed, my card had been compromised, and confirmed that the account had been blocked and that they were not overnighting the card, that it would arrive in 3-5 days (which also eases me, as the woman said they were sending it via regular mail and gave the same timeframe).
Regardless, I'm the world's biggest worrywart, so I requested a fraud alert on my CRs. I don't know what to do with myself now. What else can I do to protect myself? Had a good cry, I think I'll try and get some sleep, finally...
Thanks for warning me about the passwords, though, I hadn't thought about it until some of you said so!

  • Overseas Fraud - So much for chip transactions

So, I'm in germany right now on a little vacation. Lo and behold I get the dreaded text message from Chase (about my ritz card) "Did you make a charge at XXXXX for $XX.XX" So much for chips being safer. Every transaction here (and in london, where I was yesterday) have been chip transactions, and my card was still compromised. The best part of the entire call was me trying to give my hotel's address to the CSR over the phone. Way too many letters . I actually called the front desk while on the phone with the bank to confirm the address.

It's a US Issued card, I live in the US, card has been used in the US.   Card was used on aliexpress.com fraudulently, which I'm assuming is a relative/subsidary of AliBaba.  I'm not missing the point, but the card is an EMV card, when used in a reader that has EMV capability, provided it is turned on. That is the case in almost all of europe though. But Just like non-emv cards, they can be used online. EMV plays no role in online purchases. If anything, EMV just means cards will be used exclusively for online fraud. The problem exists because EMV is NOT a 100% safe method, and as europe (and others) have been using these cards for YEARS already, the weaknesses in them have already been discovered and exploited.  My last US usage was at Target.com (surprise) and before that it hadn't been used for a little over a month. That is the case with all German EMV readers; and it's very likely that your card was skimmed in the US, not in Europe, unless there's a data breach at Chase or one of your merchants. It's because stores in the US haven't mandated chip usage. Most likely, nobody copied your data from chip terminals in EU, and most likely somebody did that fron non-chip terminals, in US. While EMV is not 100% safe, it is definitely safer than whatever magstripe cards are prevalent in the US today.  Online fraud could be reduced by two-step authorization, using a PIN, or authorizing through your bank's online account. Hopefully that'll come through as well.

  • Wells Fargo Product Change to Visa Signature?

Hi all, I've got a Wells Fargo Visa card, which is my lowest limit credit card, but also my second-oldest which is the reason I've kept it for this long. Wanted to seek some feedback from others in terms of whether Wells will do PCs. Specifically I want their Visa Signature card, not because it's a necessarily great card for rewards (it's not) but because it's one of the few true Chip + PIN cards which would be excellent to have overseas. I just downgraded my Arrival Plus and the new Arrival doesn't even have a chip (**bleep**???) I'm not interested in applying for the card, but if possible I'd like to PC my existing plain-vanilla Visa to this one. It would also require a CLI to at least $5K to be with Visa Signature... as you can see in my sig I'm not worried about getting to $5K but I do know that WF is stingy (but also one of the most well-run banks in the country, so can't blame them)https://www.wellsfargo.com/credit-cards/visa-signature/  What do you think is possible here, what has anyone's Wells experience been, and what's the best way to go about this? I'm planning to do some HPs in July once some inquiries drop off to try to boost some of my lower card limits, so I'd probably include Wells with that. Not averse to a HP but I do want it to be worth my time. Thanks! FYI - I also bank with them but just checking and a tiny savings account I use as a self-maintained escrow account to pay for annual bills. I have been a customer for 22 years as well. Hopefully that plays into the decision.

Called the # on the back of the card today to try my luck. The rep basically said that product change offers to Visa Signature are very uncommon, and none was available for me. I would have to be basically "invited" to change over. However, she said I could apply for the Visa Signature. Interestingly, she also confirmed that all Wells cards will have a CHIP by the end of the year, and she also said that even the Visa Signature does not have CHIP + PIN. So I guess nothing lost here. She did upgrade me to 1% cash back rewards though, not that I will use it as I already have Fidelity Amex at 2%, but I'll take it. Got transferred over to Credit Line Increase department and they approved me for an increase from $2900 to $4400. I had asked them for $12K. They said no further increase would be approved unless I spoke to the underwriting department and they did a HP, which I opted not to do. Not going to burn up a HP on Wells right now, especially as they tend to be stingy with increases. In sum, didn't gain a whole lot today, but at least they bumped me up without a hard pull. My WF limit is still far short of all my other cards, but the more CL I can get the better You can request a Wells Fargo card with emv chip even if it's a non-signature rewards card.  I did that back in January 2014 for my Platinum & Home Rebate Rewards when I found out that they were offering emv and since they were the first big bank offering chip & pin secondary capability.  IIRC, Barclays was the second big and public bank to offer chip & pin backup about 6 months later and the reason I got the Arrival+.   @csryang in above post is correct with all the info about emv chip & pin.  Diner's is the only true chip & pin priority emv card that was available to public, others you have to join credit unions or USAA. I jumped on the offer and got a Diner's card when it was open for app's to get a non CU chip & pin card w/out FTF's.  Wells Fargo, unfortunately has 3% FTF's, so I didn't take it with me to Europe.  Chase has told me that starting next Spring, they will roll out chip & pin backup to their emv cards. As far as dealings with Wells Fargo, I've never asked for anything besides a few fee reimbursements and the chip cards, but they have been generous with me. They just recently changed my Platinum Rewards cards to Visa Signature without me asking for it.  I've had a banking relationship for over 15 years with them (checking, savings, mortgage, credit cards) and they've auto CLI'd both cards doubling the starting CL when they saw I was using one up to limit.  I don't use their credit cards much at all now , just cell phone bills, but for whatever reason, they decided to change it all of a sudden to Visa Sig.

  • My Last Application before at least 6 months gardening... help?

Okay so I am considering gardening for several months but I think I want one more card... I am not sure which I want, but here's what I am thinking about: Amazon MCAmazon Store Not sure what else I may be interested in but I want to get this last card locked down today hopefully.  I am interested in the Amazon MC for the better interest rates I am seeing however I am not objected to getting another card from elsewhere if it has a better likelihood of approval. My average FICO at the moment is 653.  I just got approved for Walmart store for $600. Few days ago I also got another Synchrony store card for $2000. I have a Barclays rewards card, Capital one rewards card and one comenity store card. Nothing from Chase.  DO you think I should try for a Chase card thru Amazon or try another Synchrony card or what is your advice? Again, I am hoping to find something I can get today just so I can be done with apps and start gardening thanks of ryour help in advance!

  • Odd EMV Credit Card Receipt

When I use my USAA Visa chip/signature card at Wal-Mart, the receipt says "Visa Credit" before the truncated account number, and when I use either of my Amex chip/signature cards the receipt reads "American Express" before the truncated account number, which is also to be expected. When I used my new Capital One QS1 Mastercard at Wal-Mart, I noticed the PIN-pad displayed "Capital One" when I inserted the card.  Later, upon a closer look at the receipt, I noticed the paper receipt has "Capital One" printed in front of the truncated account number, instead of the card brand.  The receipt does have "MCard Tender" beneath the total, but this is the first time I've ever had a bank's name appear on a cash register receipt. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

    jfriend33 wrote:
Why would this be odd? Its totally normal. How else besides online statements, would you be able to distinguish which card you used for a purchase? Other than having multiple cards from the same company, this would the the way to tell quickly which one you used if you needed to make a return. You're confusing 'odd' with 'bad'.  It's not a 'bad' thing, but I don't think anybody will argue that it's been this way everywhere all along, because it hasn't.  Apparently it's an option for cards with EMV chips that previously I was unaware of.  I can say with certainty that in my decades of using cards with magnetic stripes, I've never seen this.  To answer your question on how one would distinguish which card had been used for a purchase, in the past I've used the card number, or for the last few years, the truncated number (last four digits). It's just a 'new thing', and I wondered if anybody else had noticed.

Victor1: Yes, there are a couple of VISA cards that are available through the "shopping cart" trick. One is through Sportsman's Guide Visa (stated in the list) and MyPoints Visa (also stated in the list). There is also a sign up for the Total Rewards - which can preapprove you for that Visa. I was instantly preapproved for the Sportsman's Guide Visa as soon as I signed up through the Sportsman's Guide site. They gave me a $10,000 credit line with no questions asked and it was a soft pull as they only asked for the last four of my social. I was also instantly preapproved for the MyPoints Visa with a $2,500 credit line. Then - as soon as I signed up through the Total Rewards site a pop up instantly came up and approved me for the Total Rewards Visa. I declined this one as I've read of the extremely low starting credit lines. That one didn't appeal to me. All of the above were through instant pop ups. Hope this helps... My current scores: Equifax - 765   TransUnion - 735   Experian - 703   (Goal = 800)+1 I was also pre-approved for the Sportsman's Visa.  They gave me a 2K limit.  No luck with Total Rewards or Mypoints though.I got the sportman's guide to work for the first time ever, anyone know if they are generous with CLs? I dont want to take it and bring down my AAoA unless I have a shot @ 5k
