Comics & Graphic Novels - editing metadata suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I just bought a batch of ePUB formatted graphic novels from a third party store, and when I put them into iBooks for Mac the cover is replaced by that generic, faux leather design. Now, I absolutely acknowledge that this is entirely an OCD, anally-retentive, non-issue, but I would quite like to see the actual book covers in my library.
Now, some people had suggested using Calibre, which I have had a go with, but there seems to be some formatting problems that appears to be unique only to comics and graphic novels. Basically, when I open the edited ePUB book and try to get the pages to fill the screen, either the window expands but the page image stays the same size, or the pages have been sliced in two (right down the middle) and spread out over twice as many slides.
I was just wondering if any other digital comic collectors out there have worked out a solution to this? Is there some check-box in Calibre I forgot to click on, or is there some other metadata-editing software out there that's better suited for graphic novels?
If anybody's got any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear them
Cheers,
Kieran

  • Comic and Graphics Novel filters, Elements 11 editor crashes

    Hi,
I just downloaded Elements 11 Editor for mac OSX 10.9, and when I try to use any of the new filters (comic, Graphic Novel, etc), it crashes. What do I do?

    Hi ,
It is known issue on Mac 10.9 .
Since the stated system requirement for PSE 11 was till Mac 10.8.(http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-photoshop-elements.h tml)
So you have to either upgrade to PSE 12 or stick with older version of Mac.
    Thanks,

  • Elements 11 not responding when using "comic" or "graphic novel" filter

I recently purchased PSE 11 and absolutely LOVE the program. It has worked flawlessly for me for 3 weeks, however, today was the first time I ever tried to use the "comic strip" filter and the "graphic novel" filter and the program stopped responding when trying to use these filters.
I am able to use the other filters contained under the "sketch" dropdown menu, however, the 2 that I have mentioned do not seem to work.
Any ideas what might be wrong?
I am running a Windows 7 computer and as previously mentioned, all other functionality seems to be working in Elements 11 except for those 2 filters.
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Try resetting the PSE preferences by
       1. Close Elements.
       2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Edit.
       3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
    OR
GO to Edit->Preferences and you will see Reset Preferences on next launch
Click this button to ensure that all product preferences are reset to default settings when Elements Editor is restarted next. Available at Preferences > General.
    OR
Try with normal JPEG image also.
    Thanks,

  • Manga (Graphic Novel) book downloaded from Kobo is mostly blank

Hello, I have just recently bought an ebook from Kobo. It is a manga/graphic novel just to let you know. I downloaded the acsm file from Kobo and I successfully used that file to download the epub file with Adobe Digital Editions. I have authorized my copy of Adobe Digital Editions with my Adobe ID. The epub file has the correct book title, author name, publisher information, and number of pages. The problem is that all of the pages are either completely blank or have a line across the top of the page showing about 10 pixels worth of the page. Below is a picture of what I am describing. I have tried re-downloading the acsm file and I have tried re-downloading the epub file multiple times with the same result. Does anyone know why this is happening and/or how to fix it?

Thanks for the suggestion, K T.
I'd already read through several of those tips lists, and I was aware that the page turn animation was exclusive to epub documents.  I was assuming there would be some way to display a full-screen image in portrait view with an .ibooks file, but perhaps that's not currently the case (which, admittedly, seems like a huge oversight on devices with less-than-10" screens).
I could accept a continuously-scrolling portrait mode if that's a requirement, but I'd at least need to expand the page-images to fill the column, which is where I also wasn't having any luck with.  It seems like doing a new section for each page might be a sort of hack, to get around this as well, although it might preclude re-using the images in portrait view.
(I probably also should have mentioned that I realize I could build this as an .epub or PDF book and get it to do more or less what I want, but there would be annoying faux-gutter and borders that I'd prefer to avoid, and iBooks Author otherwise seems to be capable of producing exactly the material I'm looking for with a lot less work than hand-coding an ePub file.)

  • Interactive Graphic Novel

I'm working on an interactive graphic novel.  It will be made in InDesign and then saved as a PDF/EPUB.  The issue becomes the "interactive" part.  I think AIR is the answer for that.  I want to start with a demo product with some basic interactive capabilites.  My experience with Air is...well lets just say I am looking for some help.  I want the reader to be able to click on any pictures of computers in the novel and get an interface where they can look through files, videos, and eventually a game.  I want to implant Easter Eggs where if the reader clicks on them a secret organization in my world will invite them to join allowing them access to more files in the "computer".
This is a science fiction universe we are creating and I will eventually be putting out a series of graphic novels each along a particular story line.
I hope it's okay to say that I can pay but not a lot.  Perhaps that's why my search via other avenues has not provided me a suitable candidate.  If this sounds interesting to you and you feel you are capable of creating a "cool" looking interface I would love to talk with you.

Thankyou for the reply. I would definetly be interested in learning how to replicate those filters.
This is the effect of the 'graphic novel' filter: http://www.twistingpixels.graphics/tutorials/2013/6/12/the-graphic-novel-filter-photoshop- elements-diamond-in-the-rough

  • Graphic novel filter

when trying to use the graphic novel filter my elements crashes every time, if i use graphic pen it works but on looking at the drop down menu after using graphic pen graphic novel is not in the drop down menu. help please xx photoshop elements 11

    Hi,
Try to reset the preferences of photoshop elements:
If you've set Photoshop Elements to open in Full Edit (no Welcome window), do the following.
Press and hold Ctrl + Alt + Shift (Mac: Cmd + Opt + Shift).
    Open Photoshop Elements.
    A window will appear.
Click Yes to delete the Photoshop Elements preference file.
A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements.

  • Graphic Novel Filters in Photoshop Creative Cloud?

    Hello,
Will the Graphic Novel, Comic, and Pen and Ink filters introduced in Photoshop Elements 11 being coming to Photoshop CC? I used these quite often with the trial of PS Elements 11, but now that I have a CC subscription, I miss those features.
So I guess my question is, is there anyway to migrate those over to the full version of PS?

Thankyou for the reply. I would definetly be interested in learning how to replicate those filters.

Im looking for a MacBook that is worth the money and decent for gaming and editing, any suggestions?
    There all so AWESOME!

Then you are best to get a Macbook Pro. Your real aim should be the graphics card.
You won't be doing really good gaming on a discrete graphics card sharing RAM.
Depending of coarse what games you play.
eg. card games / COD games.

  • What graphics/photo editing software do you use with dreamweaver?

I just purchased Dreamweaver CS5 a few days ago.
I'm using the demo version of Fireworks CS5 and have played around a bit with the demo version of photoshop element 8.
I'm wondering if I would be able to do everything with photoshop CS5 that I'm able to do in Fireworks CS5 and photoshop elements.
Guess I could ask this question in the photoshop forum, but I really wanted to hear from developers and designers that use dreamweaver too.
What would you suggest to use for a graphics/photo editing program.
    Thanks,
    jp

Thanks for the input so far.
Here is my thinking. I have used free html editors for years. Mostly first page from http://www.evrsoft.com/.
Then I decided to try the demo of dreamweaver after reading about the new integrated CMS support.
After just a couple weeks of using dreamweaver I purchased it. I like dreamweaver much better then the free editors I have used over the years.
So onto graphics/photo editing software. I have also used simple and free photo editing programs over the years. I have decided to try and learn not only more code, but also try to gain some graphic skills.
Most of what I would be doing would be graphics for the web, but I also need some kind of photo editing tools.
So do I buy just fireworks CS5 and use it for not only graphics, but to also edit photos.
Do I purchase both Fireworks and photoshop elements 9 or should I spend a little more and go with photoshop CS5.
Is photoshop CS5 more stable then fireworks or photoshop elements?
I'm running windows 64 bit system with a i3 and 4 gig of ram with duel monitors.
    Thanks for your input.

  • FCP 10.1 slow timeline and editing - Any suggestions to improve speed?

Recently updated to  OS X 10.9.1 and FCP 10.1. Now experiencing very slow editing and movement in timeline. FCP is responding some 2 to 5 seconds after providing an editing command. The slowest response is to scrolling in the timeline  - 2 finger scroll does not respond for up to 10 seconds after doing it.
Render times are fine and similar to previous FCP X versions.
Never had this problem in previous versions of FCP X.
So far I have done the following things based on forums and a call to apple support(?).
    Deleted all plug ins.
Started from scratch a project that I was half way through and imported all clips from scratch to a new Library (external Hard Drive).
Deleted FCP and reinstalled including deleting all preferences.
Timeline is quick in the early stages of the project but gets slower as I progress - about 3 minutes into my project now (approx 200 clips) and editing time is becoming impossible.
Am using Mac Book Pro with 2.5 GhzIntel Core i7, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB.
Anyone able to assist with further suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Ian and Russ
    Thanks for your interest.
Hard drive is 500GB of which I have used approx 300GB. I am using an external hard drive for this project.Footage is from Canon 7D/70D which is H.264 which is the same as other successful projects.
Yes I do have a number of photos (say 30 @ 18mp) that I am using as part of the project although I have used these before in previous versions of FCP X without impact.
Tried activity monitor (first time I had used it).
When scrowling through time line (one of the problem activities) memory does not move much- Real memory approx 925mb, Virtual memory 6GB, shared memory 44mb, Private memory 75mb. Interstingly though when performing this task CPU usage goes > 100% and averages 130%.
Does this help with any potential diagnostics and solutions?
    Thanks

  • Checking out graphics and retaining metadata

I'm testing FCS and I'm wondering... Maybe I'm missing something.
Is it possible to add metadata to an image in FinalCut Server, check out the image and retain the metadata in CS3 Photoshop? I can export and retain keywords, and add keywords in Photoshop and bring them back in. Just can seem to see the metadata unless it's exported as a PhotoShop or jpg file.
    -H

    Nicholas-
Thanks for the quick reply. Basically I have a graphic (JPG) I imported into FCS and the metadata is all there. I add notes to the keyword field in FCS, However when I check out the graphic and edit it in Photoshop CS4 the added notes aren't in the keywords field in file info (only the original keywords). I add a new note in Photoshop and re-checkin to FCS and the notes added in PS are there.
I'd like to be able to have the metadata be exchanged both ways. Note if I export the JPG the info is retained but that's a lot of work importing and overwriting of files.

  • Updated toOS 6.1.2, now graphic novels won't open

I just updated my iPad to 6.1.2, and now I can't open any graphic novels. I can open books, but my graphic novels won't open at all. I tried redownloading one and the same problem. Any ideas on what i should do?

It shows Storage: 5.38 Available and 8.5 Used
    Battery Usage On and 41%
    Time since last full charge:
         Usage            --
         Standby         --
So, I don't think that's it, do you?
I can open everything else, but when I open a Graphic Novel, it kicks me out of iBooks all together.
    Thank you for helping me!

  • Editing metadata in bridge CC

I've used bridge to edit metadata of all my files as they are downloaded using CS4, now with CC I am having trouble. When I edit metadata and try to save it I get a message that Bridge had trouble writing to file. PS can write to file, and bridge can then see the changes, but I can't make changes in bridge where I'm use to making them to several (300+) files at a time. What am I doing wrong??

OS permission problems are not uncommon with external drives.  Although it may sound crazy you may not be an authorized user of the drive.  A workaround is to right click on Bridge icon and choose "run as admininstrator".
