Coming from Android and....

I am looking for an app like Dindy for Droid. It basically lets your phone be on silence and when someone calls you will send them a text message and tell them to call back if an emergency. Then on second callback phone will go to full volume and ring. Will also turn all sounds off except alarm. Anything like this for iOS?
Thank you!

Pretty poor reviews on that one, requires you to create and send everything from a Google mail account, and I agree with one reviewer that says it would be just as fast to do it yourself.
Again, the problem is that Apple precludes developers from accessing the APIs to do what your app (and his) do on the Android phone, so unless Apple changed this to allow access, or wrote something themselves, there will be no way to do this like you can on other phones (not just Android).
Not sure if these are protected APIs on Windows Mobile 7
If you are someone who previously used profiles on your cell phones, like a lot of one-touch telephone function access, and love to customize, your conundrum is over: stay with Android.

  • Boot Camp - audio coming from headphones AND internal speakers

Am not sure how prevalent this problem is. I've got XP Pro running on my iMac 20", and am guessing I've got a glitch in boot camp's windows audio drivers.
Normally, when you plug your headphones in, your audio signal is supposed to be routed to them and your internal speakers would be muted. On mine, however, only in XP, plugging in the headphones does indeed cause audio to come out of the headphones, but it does not mute the internal speakers. Basically, I can't stop the audio from coming out the internal speakers without muting everything.
I've gotten no help from Windows volume controls, and unlike on the Mac OS side, there isn't a separate volume setting when the headphones are unplugged.
Anybody see this besides me? Anybody find a solution that'll save me the time of waiting for a new audio driver?
    Thanks in advance!

no new drivers to download. However, the latest Firmware update at least auto-sets the internal speakers to a lower volume at startup (instead of full volume)

  • Just coming from Win and need Help with bootcamp/parallels+general osx stuf

Well I absolutely love my Mac. I'm just having some problems affording it financially, but when I compare this new MacBook Pro to other like computers, there's a very very small difference in the hardware, and Im usually building laptops that are similiar to this for around 2k anyways. So I'm not 100% sure if I'll keep this or not, and maybe settle for cheaper PC that's under 1.5k (because Apple charges you a 10% open box fee) and buy a mac when I'm in a better position, or just keep this and see what I can do.
But a few of the things that are making me miss a PC might push me toward a cheaper PC. And so maybe someone here can help me out before I make a decision.
First off, is there anything that's the equivalent to a disk defragmentor for OSX?
Second, is the graphics card really powerful in this Macbook 15 inch 2.4 ghz (the newest one)
Im also having a problem with this keyboard and my favorite game. Basically I need to hold down certain keys (control, alt, shift and space) in order to use skills. But for some reason when I hold down any of these buttons, it only reads it once. So I have to push it every time I'd say, want to heal myself or hit a monster... and that might not seem like a lot but if you play a game for 1 hour + (I'd usually play around 4 hours) it's going to absolutely kill my fingers and make playing the game take a lot longer.
Now I'm using parallels (the only way to play my game) and whenever I try to install a new KB, because I've found out that the way a KB is wired will determine whether or not you can spam a key or not (Like a cheap USB one wont work, but a more expensive logitech one allows you to) but it either
    1) Crashes Parallels and my Win VM
    or
    2) It sets up whatever kb I use to be used with Mac OSX's drivers which means no matter what the KB is, ctrl alt space and shift cant be spammed.
I'm also unable to use FRAPS, a PC video capturing program used for games while running parallels. My FPS constantly dips to 0 which lags me in the game, and I can't find a good recording program thats OSX side and that works while Parallels is running (I emailed parallels about what vid they used in their demo but no response)
Now if use bootcamp, will I have nothing to worry about? Will all of the hardware act like it should act natively on a PC? As in will my nVidia graphics card act like it normally would on a PC instead of it being some kind of virtualized hardware or something like on parallels?
Thanks for the help guys... 2 weeks to decide on whether or not I keep th is laptop....

The graphics card is a higher performance GPU than the X1600 in the previous MBP models. As for "really powerful" you don't provide any basis for comparison. Visit the ATI site to find out the specifications for the model.
Well I understand that much. I just mean as far as a graphics card in general goes, is it strong enough to support a variety of games (both PC and Mac)? This is my first computer without a crappy intergrated graphics card which could barely handle games from the late 1990s.
As for keyboard shortcuts I'm not sure if you're referring a Mac or a PC game. However, this reference may help. If the game is a Mac version you'll need to contact the game's developer about any problems with how to use the game on a Mac. If you read the Parallels documentation it will explain how to generate any special keyboard characters when in Windows.
Umm it's not that. Like I first figured out this problem with all electronics in general when I was a kid playing with one of those press and speak books. What I found out was that, let's pretend there were 3 buttons. One was cow going moo, one was a cat meowing and one was a dog barking. If you held down the Cow button and pressed the Cat button, the cow would still Moo. If you held down the Cow and press the dog button, the cow would still moo. However if you pressed and held the cat button, then pressed the cow button the cat would stop meowing, and the moo would override it.
That same principle applies to keyboards from what I've seen. I know there are some keyboards where I can use the control button and the alt button at the same time, and some keyboard I can't use. I can't blame the game, because there ARE keyboards that work the way I want it to. And I'm not talking about keyboard shortcuts. Pressing Control+Alt isn't a shortcut in a game, just two different commands. Like one is jump, one is attack. In the game you can Jump and Attack with some keyboards, some keyboards only let you jump or attack.
Another example is if I put my jump key on the letter "a" and if I hold a, I jump over and over until I let go. but if I put jump to my space bar, I jump once then stop. For some reason it won't repeat keys while in a game. Same goes for other buttons, ctrl, shift, and alt.
Does that make things a little more clear?
but what I'm going to do is try my mac keyboard on a PC and see if it has the same limitations.
If Parallels is crashing either you have a faulty installation, your OS X installation is corrupted, or you have not allocated sufficient RAM for the VM. You need at least 2 GBs of installed RAM to use virtualization software and should allocate at least 384 MBs or RAM to Windows XP and 512 MBs to Vista. If you have only 1 GB of RAM installed your system won't be very stable when you try to run Parallels with Windows on 384 or 512 MBs of RAM.
I have the newest 15 inch which has gigs. And I've tried setting Parallels to both 1 and 512 (windows xp) and I worded the problem wrong. Parallels doesnt crash, parallels runs fine. What happens is Windows XP gets the blue screen of death whenever I try to install a usb device. Since I can't find a logitech keyboard that has drivers/software for a mac, I tried using a Windows one and tried installing it on my XP... and thats when I got the BSOD
Parallels uses all the native Mac hardware via the virtualization software. No special Mac drivers are required nor special Windows drivers.
If you cannot run a Windows program in Parallels it's not a problem with OS X. Complain to Parallels.
It's not that a program isn't running. It's running fine, it's just my FPS gets really low. What I'm trying to figure out is if my graphics card isn't good enough in general, or if it's not good enough to handle parallels and osx and a game with a video capture all at once.
Boot Camp runs Windows natively on the hardware just as if you were using any other dedicated Windows hardware. "Will I have nothing to worry about?" I don't know. Boot Camp provides the necessary Windows drivers for all currently produced Intel Macs. You can install Windows XP with Service Pak 2 or Vista. Read the Boot Camp documentation to find out more.
Well I meant will I have nothing to worry about as in, will my graphics card be as effective on my bootcamped win XP as it would be if it was a native XP laptop, or will it be slightly less effective since it was based for a mac intel computer... does that make sense or do I need to reword it?

  • ICal Alarm emails coming from home AND work email?

My iCal calendars are synced using MobileMe with my home computer and my work computer (and my iPhone). I'll sent an alarm on my work calendar to email me at work. I am now getting two emails sent TO my work email From my work email AND my home email. Is there any way to stop my home sending out work alarms?

    Hi BenChase,
Select the calendar you don't want to send alarms in iCal's calendar list. Press Cmd-I to open its Info panel. Check the box that says 'Ignore alarms'.

  • HT4872 I did as told to Transfer contacts from android and it's not syncing

    Transfer contacts from android

One thing that it seems that nobody mentions or maybe the user doesn't hear is that when their device is set up by someone else - you should sync to iTunes as soon as you get to your computer - before you begin downloading apps, music, and so on.
Launch iTunes on your Mac. From the menu at the top go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and turn off auto syncing at the bottom of that window - check prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. Quit iTunes.
Connect your iPad to your computer, start iTunes and click on your iPad name on the left side of the iTunes window under devices. Go to the menu at the top - File>Transfer Purchases from ... iPad. This should transfer all of the purchased content into your iTunes library.
You can elect to turn auto syncing back on if you want to do so. If you choose to not auto sync - you can also select to prevent iTunes from opening when your iPad is connected to your Mac in the info tab of iTunes when the iPad is connected to iTunes.
If you do erase the iPad - you can download the apps and music (available in the U.S.) again at no charge as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to buy the content in the first place.

  • Used Airplay and now no audio coming from Hulu and Netflix apps on Apple TV

I was watching a show on Hulu through Apple TV while looking at facebook on my iPhone.  I'd forgotten to turn the Airplay off on my iphone and a friend's facebook video played on my tv.  When it was over I tried to return to my Hulu show, but no audio was playing.  I tried the Netflix app and no luck there either.  I've turned both my phone and my apple TV off and on and nothing is working.  It's definitely not a problem with my tv set.  Can anyone help me fix this??

It's happened to me even when using airplay for a video that is not in FB.  I reset ATV and it works once and then the audio disappears again.  I'm considering using the ATV for a coaster.

  • DNG Timestamp from Android camera2 API

    Hey folks-
I have a problem with erroneous timestamps on my DNG images coming from Android apps capable of capturing RAW images.
I have been very excited that Android now allows RAW capture in the new camera2 API, in the form of DNG files.  I have a Nexus 6 and I have tried two paid apps that that allow DNG capture ("Camera FV-5" and "Manual Camera").  In both cases, when I import the DNG files into Lightroom, they are showing up in directories that are days in the past.  At first, I blamed FV-5, since it was completely rewritten around the new Android API.  But just today I tried Manual Camera, and it does the exact same thing.
I've been in discussion with the FV-5 author, and poked around the API a bit, and it appears that the DNG comes straight from the camera.  If the timestamp is wrong, it seems like it is probably Android's fault.  However, when I take a DNG file directly from my phone's file system and examine it with exiftool, I see this (some info redacted):
    ExifTool Version Number         : 9.78
    File Name                       : IMG_20150107_153045.DNG
    Directory                       :

    Modify Date                     : 2014:12:31 04:08:50
The creation time that I have in bold at the top is absolutely correct.  But note this "modify date" at the bottom.  For whatever reason, that is the time that Lightroom is using to identify the file...putting it in dated folders according to that time, renaming the file with that YYYYMMDD_HHMMSS, and telling me that this is the capture time when I hover over the preview.
So this is where my limited knowledge and expertise run out.  First of all...what is "Modify Date"?  How is it different from the formal "File Modification Date/Time"?  Why does Lightroom choose to use this instead of the aptly named "File Creation Date/Time" (perhaps a question for a Lightroom forum)?  And, of course, why is this time in the past (perhaps a question for the Android devs)?
Any thoughts?  Has anyone else seen this?  I have searched around and found no trace of this issue anywhere, and I'm shocked that no one would be pairing Lightroom with Android DNG images and reporting this yet.
    Thanks!
    Drew

  • Setup deskjet 3050A having trouble with the cord coming from the power adapter.

My deskjet 3050A power adapter has a black and white cord coming from it and ends with a a small black rubber and metal end. I can't figure out where this goes. My printer will not turn on anymore. It was working before I went in the hospital at the beginning of the month and I can't remember where this cord went to.

    Hi,
Looks like your printer has broken during your absence, should be nothing hanging out with that description. I can't physically see it therefore I can't say anything because this can be live and death. You need an electrical or throw the printer away and get a new one.
    Regards.

  • Weird noises coming from MBA

I just went to copy something hitting "command" and "c" and there was some weird screeching sound coming from my MBA. A few seconds after that, there were a few "bloop" sounds coming from it and then it stopped. Anyone else encounter this? It may be worth noting that when the screeching sounds occurred, there was a loading icon on the arrow pointer.

My MBA's hard drive (not solid) makes a fast clicking sound; occurs maybe every few hours. It doesn't happen when you'd expect, it's not during at the startup of a program or opening a large document. Just happens randomly.
    Is this normal?

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

I recently migrated my MacBook from 10.5.8 to 10.6.8, using the Snow Leopard CD I purchased from Apple. Since then I have noticed a strange ozone smell coming from the MacBook in the area where the hinges are to open and close the unit. I was told by Apple that it probably is not serious and is coming from the fans in the MacBook. It is true that the smell/odor is more intense when the fans are working. Apple said I should take the MacBook to an Apple Store to have the hardware checked out. Everything seems to be working correctly. I am backing up automatically wirelessly to a Time Capsule, which I had not done until recently, although I had purchased the Time Capsule in 2009. I have not noticed this odor before. Does anyone suspect something more serious that may be going on?

You may be smelling it because with the new OS the processor is having to work harder causing it to get hotter then it would with the other OS.  I can't say there is nothing wrong, but what could be happening is just that, it's getting hotter so the fan is spinning faster and moving more air so you are getting more of the smell then you would before.  I would still continue to back it up, and take it to the Apple Store at a Genius Bar and have them look at it to make sure.  Was the computer ever in a smoky environment??
