user10233638, did you install a 64 bit Oracle client or a 32 bit Oracle client? Your subject line says instant client which I would think you are using the EZconnect feature. To the best of my knowledge, which I admint is limited in regards to the instant client, I thought that the EZ connection like a java thin client connection supplied all the Oracle target information so not tnsnames.ora file was required.
I found a EQ connection example in the following while researching your issue:
ORA-12154 When Using Long SQLNET Alias in DBQ Property of ODBC Connection String or TNS Service Name of DSN [ID 1340407.1]
Is there any reason you are not using a regular Oracle client or an ODAC client installation? The ODAC client installation does not come with the network configuration tools but I have copied a tnsnames.ora file into the appropriate directory my customer wanted installed so they could use the MS Visual Studio support provided by ODAC. We are using that client to support connections to Oracle.
As far as I know Oracle does not care if you point to a network hosted tnsnames.ora file via the TNS_ADMIN environment variable. So long as the sqlnet software can open and read the tnsnames.ora file I am pretty sure Oracle does not care. We have been using a network hosted tnsnames.ora file to support desktop clients for over a decade and a half though we do not use this option from servers. I am pretty sure it was Oracle support that suggested using a commont client tnsnames.ora file to us to begin with.

  • Flex Success Stories

    Hi there.
I have heard a lot of developers sing the praises of how
    wonderful Flex is,
and as a developer myself, it's certainly an improvement over
    using
Flash.exe to author Flash movies, for certain applications.
However what I am struggling to find is "real world"
    production scenarios
where it's ("it" being "Flex" and the whole "RIA" concept)
    actually proven
    to be of much use.
    Situations I'm investigating:
    1) Companies that have had an existing HTML-based web
    presence which
decided to jump to a Flex-driven RIA solution, and
    experienced an up-turn
    in business.
    2) Companies which did NOT have an existing HTML-based web
    presence, and
decided to go for a Flex / Flash UI as opposed to an HTML
    one, the
rationale for doing so, and their resultant findings (harder
    to quantify
the comparitive benefits in this case, I realise).
We're finding Flex to be be difficult to justify as a
    technology. I don't
disagree that it's interesting and it *should* be a (cliche
    alert) "killer
app", but I don't actually see it in the real world.
We have had a relationship with Macromedia (not sure how this
    translates to
Adobe), and had asked them, but they never actually came up
    with anything
(which is worrying). There seems to be a lot of claims of how
    great all
this RIA is, but not a lot of tangible evidence that it's
    great enough for
anyone with a cheque book to actually care.
So here I am asking the community. Does anyone have any
    analysis or case
    studies of Flex success stories?
I am NOT trying to knock Flex / Flash at all. On the
    contrary, I am trying
to gather ammnunition as to how to justify using it to
    potential clients.
    *I* think it's a cool product.
    Cheers.
    Adam

My "increase sales from x to y" was an example, and perhaps
    the most
easy to measure. How do you measure that your recruiters ARE
    more
    efficient?
They can spend more time scheduling more drives since they
    have much
less paperwork to do for each mobile drive and that we are
    meeting our
blood collection goals more frequently. This is the
    improvement we saw
when we implemented an CF/HTML application three years ago.
I am in the process of rebuilding this application into a
    CF/FLEX
solution, so we have obviously not seen any improvement here
    yet, they
can't use it until I finish. But for the pieces I have shown
    them they
are very excited. I would say there are going to be two
    savings here.
I am implementing a much slicker, very desktop like UI much
    easier and
quicker then if I had tried to do the same in a
    HTML|DHTML|AJAX
techniques. So there is saving in my time. I am building new
    features
that will allow the recruiters to create new drives, which is
    something
that is still a very paper intensive process that does not
    exist in the
current application. This will make it a bit harder to
    measure since
there will not be an HTML version of this functionality to
    compare
against. But since I can do at least some of this with Flex
    wizards, my
    development time is defiantly shorter.
But overall, FLEX is allowing me to delver features that have
    long been
requested, but where difficult and time consuming to develop
    with older
    technologies.

When there’s no end to what your device can do, there’s no end to what your device does to you. Droid X is coming soon.

Not to be a party pooper..... But.. Didn't the old spec claim that this phone has a slower processor? If so whats the advantage to this phone? A Keyboard? 720p is a silly excuse for big claim also, most of these super phones can be made to do it with some hacking (so I hear).
I'm just gunna be bummed out if VZW goes DORID CRAZY on tv, and stores. Especially if it has no huge advantages. ((

  • Embeded derby as client variable store

I've spent considerable time trying to configure the built-in
derby embeded DB as a CF client variable store and have failed
utterly. It seems to be impossible.
I had a SQL Server client store which worked just find, but,
for various reasons that are irrelevant here, I would really prefer
not to do that and use derby instead.
I created the database, created the dsn, set the dsn as the
client store and it all looked okay. But it isn't. The CLOCAL and
CGLOBAL tables were not created as they should have been (and were
for SQL Server). So I created them by hand as described in the
    help
files, but that failed as well. Changing various things yields
different errors, but there is a consisted 500 Server error. I can
only guess that the database writes are failing, but there is no
    indication as to why.
I have looked all over adobe.com and all over the intertubes
and there is no further information of any kind. In fact, the
latest instructions for even creating the database date back to
    May
2007 and have no resemblance to the administrators screens at
all. (I'm running CF 8,0,1,195765 standard). When I create an
embedded derby dsn, I get the generic "default"
Data & Services > Datasources > Other screen.
    There's nothing "derby" about it.
So, frankly, it seems pretty pointless and useless to me. If
someone can point me DIRECTLY to relevant information, I'd
appreciate it. I cannot believe in the year plus this product has
been out that NO ONE has done this, especially when it's commented
    all
over the place that this is one of the things you can do, yet
there's nothing. Even searching for just "derby" on these forums
yields only three hits, none of which are relevant.

    them automatically when

It doesn't say - underneath the "Description" text area "Your
    data source
requires you to manually create the necessary database tables
    to store your
client variables. See the Online Help for details. "?
    It does for me.
You have a most curious CF install, and I would be very
    hesitant continuing
with it given what you say.
What OS are you running on? Do you still have your install
    logs, and do
    they reveal anything relevant?
Is this an install that was fresh 8.0 (or 8.0.1), or has it
    been upgraded
    from an earlier release?
    > The ones you expect. And the tables are there and
    created correctly as per

    datetime)
    > CREATE UNIQUE INDEX id1 ON CDATA(cfid, app)
    > CREATE INDEX id2 ON CGLOBAL(cfid)
    > CREATE INDEX id3 ON CGLOBAL(lvisit)
OK, that sounds about right. The only thing I did different
    was to use
timestamp rather than datetime. I'm not sure if that's worth
    a try.
Can you insert / update / delete manually to/from those?
    > > What are the error messages?
    > As I said, the only consistent one is an Apache 500
    Server error
The inconsistent ones would probably be helpful to know about
    too.
What goes into the CF logs when these errors are being
    raised? Do the 500
errors give an stack trace info? I think 500 errors usually
    don't, but
    don't exactly recall.
    > > That sounds wrong. I get " Data & Services >

    >
    > Also, as I said, I do not get any Derby anything.
I'm finding your tone a bit tedious to be honest.
I asked for clarification because you weren't completely
    clear in your
post, and I just wanted to make sure you were sure what you
    were seeing
because it's somewhat unusual to be getting completely the
    wrong screens in
CFAdmin. In all the CF servers I have had responsibility for,
    I've not
seen this, so I just wanted to *make sure* I was reading you
    right.
    > "other" jdbc data source creation screen, In fact, I

Weird. How did you create the Derby DBs themselves? It's
    usually one of
the options on the create DSN screen. Did you create them
    manually or
    using some other client tool?

    >
    > Thank you for your opinion. It's most helpful
When trying to solve a problem that's a result of something
    you've done, I
find it easy to take the mindset that *you've* done something
    wrong, not
[something else] has done something wrong. Once one starts
    looking more
analytically at one's own actions, sometimes a flag comes up,
    and there's a
bit of a "slap forehead" moment. However if it's
    predetermined that
something else is at fault and one is just the victim of
    circumstance, it's
    difficult to progress.
It's just better to dispense with the hand-wringing and roll
    up the sleeves
and get on with fixing it.
    > should have somehow psychically determined. If you read
    for comprehension
    > you'll see that I said I can't believe no one had done
    it.
Have you not found anyone reporting to have used the Derby
    DB? I have to
say that I'd never used it before y/day, because I've got the
    luxury of
having Oracle or SQL Server DBs at my disposal. However I do
    know of other
organisations using Derby for their demo DBs, and have read a
    few things
    about its usage.
I don't think you should expect to hear people reporting back
    "hey I am
using Derby to store my client variables", because I don't
    think it's
really that report-worthy. How many people to you see
    reporting back "I'm
using my Oracle DB to store client variables"? As "storing
    client
variables in a DB" is such a mundane thing, people are only
    going to report
on it if they have had problems with it. Maybe no-one's done
    it (except
for me, as of y/day). Maybe no-one's had a problem with it. A
    case in
point: I had no problems setting it up, so I have no further
    need to report
anything to anyone about it because it's "job done, move on".
    > As I said the first time and again above, and will
    repeat again here: I can't
    > find anywhere where someone said they've actually done
    it.
I've *actually done it*. I told you this y/day, as soon as
    you asked.
There you go. Can we move on now please?
I'm not actually sure you want help, but if you do, follow up
    with those
error message and anything from the logs that are helpful. I
    think you
just want to have a moan as to how you've been so put upon,
    and if that's
the case, I think we're done here. It's up to you as to how
    to proceed.

  • What is Adobe doing to fix all these bugs...? Is there an update coming soon??

Seeing so many complaints on the Adobe Muse bugs forum, wondering if there is fixes coming soon to all these, ESPECIALLY compatibility issues with Windows 8-8.1 64bit PC's. These are the PC's being sold nowadays, I cannot buy a new laptop with Windows 7 easily anymore... I had no choice.

Some say that there will be a version 8.1 released in the near future. But since your phone is still under warranty, get it checked again. Did you visit an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider to test the phone?

Come on Verizon you teased us enough with this coming soon! I'm a developer that purchased the new Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3, it was a nice a phone but not for a developer! So I sold it for $700! It was such a tease! I need an unlocked bootloader so I can install a custom recovery! So it was like buying a brand new laptop with an encoded password! Its not right! It's our hardware! Why must you lock it up?? I hope you guys release this Developer Edition Note 3 before December, if not it looks like I'm switching to Sprint or T-Mobile! You already took my unlimited data away, and now you expect us to buy locked devices? Please Verizon keep development going! It's only making Android better!

  • Success Stories for BW and XI

    Hello experts,
Iam looking for Success stories between BW Integration with XI, Any links Pdfs are highly appreciated
    Thanks
    SP

I run my own small "server" at home -- it has Postfix/DoveCot mail server on it and a "hardened" /etc/sshd_config. Upgraded from 10.5.5 client to 10.5.7 client on it today.
10.5.7's /etc/postfix/main.cf added a line at the bottom of that file that says inet_interfaces = localhost. Actually, I think they added that with 10.5.6. I changed it to read #inet_interfaces = localhost and the mail server started working again.
I don't have scponly but I do have sshd enabled. 10.5.7 didn't touch my /etc/sshd_config.

  • Coming Soon from Apple an Update to Safari for Windows ...

... with a lot of missing features:
    Read at
    http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
    Coming Soon
    Support for International users
    International text input methods
Advanced text (contextual forms, international scripts)
    Localized menus and help
    NTLM support
    PAC file auto-detection
    FTP directory listings
Link to proxy settings from Safari (Safari respects the proxy settings in the Windows Internet control panel)
    Cookie management
    LiveConnect support
    Tooltips
    Spell checking
    Printing page numbers, titles, margins
    (...)

Yes, the question was not directed at you, even if I might have appreciated if you had made something up, just to make me happy.
The question was more directed at Apple, who have not been brilliant with the communication regarding Safari for Windows. Example: For several days they proudly presented Safari for Windows on the main page of their Japanese web site, even though one of the most glaring limitations was that the first betas would not work in Japanese - at all.
In contrast to many people in this forum, I do not mind that there are serious limitations and bugs in the beta. However, I am disappointed that Apple does not list the problems up front.

  • HTC Desire coming soon......

    OK,
Last ditch straw today to try and fix my S710. Talking to the Technical bods.
Got talking about the other 2 phones on offer from BT and was told that they have not been given any more information on the Hero as the Desire is due to be introd! ! ! ! ! !
Anyone in the know just exactly when, how much etc????????
I know this is probably a slip of the tounge by the techie but got to whack it on here aint I ? !

Must be about this time last year we had "New handsets coming soon" on the old forum.
The 620 is a great workhorse of a phone, but it is slow on the web browsing, and cant get 3G data connection.
After 9 months on a HTC HD2, I now realise just how slow it was.
Sadly, it seems that the 710 and the 620 are the only means that BT customers can use Broadband Talk "Anywhere" though
    Edit:-
I'd forget it.  Go to another service provider and you will get a reduction on BB#3 and the saving made will more than cover the cost of the phone.  Take a look out there

  • OT: I need success stories! Quickly! HELP!! :-)

    HELP!
Our company is hoping to make a major decision on whether to completely rewrite our system on J2EE. We need to convince our management and marketing teams of the need for this. Do you have any articles and success stories to help us sell your technology? Specifically I'm looking for:
    - J2EE projects
    - Large systems (we serve 300 million hits/day) that need to be both fast and stable
    - Project timelines (how long? how many developers?)
    - preferably Linux-based
    - preferably open-source (e.g. JBoss) although commercial app servers will be fine
This would be GREAT!!! I'm DESPERATE!
    Dave Lowndes

I would recommend the Apache website (http://www.apache.org/). If your not already familiar with them they provide phenomenal open-source software. The Apache HTTP server and Tomcat servlet container are usually more than sufficient for building large systems, you may not even require an EJB server. You can also tie in the Struts MVC framework to make your life easier (see under the Jakarta project on the Apache site).
In terms of a free database (assuming you need one) then you could also use MySql (http://www.mysql.org), as with the Apache software it's open-source and available on Linux.
    Best of luck,
    Ronny.

  • BT Infinity 'Coming Soon'

I have been wanting BT Infinity for ages; with the belief that it would never be in my area I renewed my 12 month o2 contract at a cut price. I just checked the BT Infinity checker by entering my phone number and it says 100MB download and 15MB upload 'Coming Soon'.
Does anyone have any information on this? Have BT started rolling out 100MB broadband yet?

Not being in the very fortunate position your in...... my checker was nothing like yours.
But this is the way I would interpret your results.-
"Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a WBC Fibre To The Premises"
NOW you could have a fibre connection direct from your premise/property to the exchange. Hence the high 100Mbps download figure.
    "Single Dwelling Unit Residential"
Not business, Not tower block just a normal  house= Easier to install cable to.
OH Feed with no anticipated issues.
Looks like a provisional survey of the area/street may have been done and the fibre cable will be supplied to your premises via telegraph poles... Over Head Cable feed.
As I understand it the FTTP trials have just ended (1 Nov) so looks like Bt are releasing the FTTP product.
I'd phone BT sales and enquire.... as there would be a lot more work involved getting the cable directly to you they will need to get a commitment before doing that work I suppose.
Good Luck you lucky lucky person... slightly envious I am

  • Coming Soon Movies tab

I read online that iTunes now has a "Coming Soon" page in the Movies section. I read it on Ars Technica (http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/03/09/itunes-store-introduces-mov ies-coming-soon-section)
But I can't find the tab anywhere. We have had the Movies in Australia for a few months now, but the library still lacks a few titles that I am after and was wondering if there was a way to see if they are on their way. Where can I find this coming soon tab?
    Thanks.

Mmmm, never heard of this and never seen it, did type in 'coming soon' into the search and found a coming soon page which looks nothing like the page in the link you provided and when I looked at the films there they were already released.
Might be a US feature only.

  • Video Card Success Stories?

    Hi All,
I'm having problems getting my ATI HD Radeon 4350 card to play nice with Molehill on Ubuntu 10.10.  Does anyone have any success stories (with any Graphics Card / OS combination)?
Maybe we can use this thread to give those of us who are working on projects some insight into video cards we may want to upgrade to.
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hey folks,
Previously, I shared my experiences concerning molehill examples and how some examples would work and others would crash before anything was rendered. I'm now convinced that the molehill examples that did work on my machine probably had the Context3D property enableErrorChecking set to true. I've examined source code for the examples I've been playing around with and sure enough, examples that crashed before now worked well when I set enableErrorChecking to true.  Conversely, molehill examples and libraries that are currently working well on my machine have the enableErrorChecking property set to true; setting the property to false makes these examples crash. Here is what the pre-release documentation has to say about this property:
    enableErrorChecking:Boolean
If true, calls to clear(), and drawTriangles() are synchronous and  can throw errors. This reduces performance. In the default case, this  member is false.            When error checking is disabled, no attempt is made to check the  success of graphics rendering, eliminating the need to associate any  resulting error condition            with a particular graphics request.  Graphics processing is  simplified and the graphics pipeline is not unnecessarily stalled.
I really wanted to share this bit of information with other linux users. After reading some comments here on this forum and other comments from linux users at mcfunkypants blog I'm convinced that some of us linux users have to set enableErrorChecking to true to get our code working without crashing.

  • Success Stories

Can anyone point me in the direction of success stories of the Cisco VoIP implementations that either you have experienced or companies you know of?
I am deciding whether or not to go down this path. Thank you in advance.

    Hi Kevin,
Here is some info to get you started. You should also read up on the Cisco Blueprint for success. There are many factors that will have to go into making this decision.
    Infrastructure,staff,costs,support,migration paths, strategies etc. etc .etc. Not an easy decision, but done properly IP Telephony is a great way to go. Done improperly, it can be a VERY painful experience. Have a look;
