Command + Down arrow

My command + down arrow has stopped working on one of my Pages document, but not others. Any suggestions?

Yes, in the illustration that you gave, if I select multiple images A to C (a total of 3 images), every time I press command down, the selection should move to the next new block of 3 images (i.e. D,E,F then G,H,I ... etc.)
For no reason (or for reasons I am too unfamiliar with Aperture to know), the block may not move the way it is supposed to. The selection could move from A-C to D-F to G-I and then to I to K (in this case, it does not follow the routine). I first thought it has something to do with stacking so I removed all stacks and tried. It still gave me random "bad" move. If I select a block of 2 pictures only (e.g. start with A-B), I did not find any "bad" moves.
Hope it clarifies my questions.

Move to the end of the document or Command–Down Arrow does seem to work!

The document is not that sophisticated, it is long at 80 pages. The command works on the same computer but for other documents. I use this feature a lot as it is a log file. Any help would be appreciated.

I apologize but here command + up_arrow behaves exactly like command + down_arrow.
If we are clicking in the document's window it rings mut don't move the cursor.
If the cursor is in a text box, a picture or a shape, the item is moved.
If we click in the rulers we move to the top or to the bottom of the document.
In a Word processor document the cursor location doesn't change the shortcut's behavior.
I repeat that Home and End are moving to top or to bottom in all circumstances in both modes.
So, I uses the arrows shortcuts only to move objects in Page Layout mode.
Given the point of view, it's a drawback or its an interesting feature.

How can I get command+down to open files again?

For as long as I can recall command+down arrow would open files in the finder. It seems this is no longer the case in 10.6.
I've tried adding an application shortcut to Finder in the Keyboard System Preference pane but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Anyone know how to get it back?

Following your suggestion I moved all com.apple.*.plist files to a temp folder on my desktop.
Log out. Log in.
Keyboard shortcuts were fine.
From there I moved the plist files back in groups of 12, overwriting any existing files. Log out. Log in. Repeat.
com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist was the culprit.

Pages 5 - Up/Down Arrow Margin Size Increment Change

Hi All   -   Couldn't find another relevant post so starting this (please point out if another relevant post exists)
Problem: Changing Margin Size in Small Increments
I have Pages units set to points (pts)
In Pages 09 in the Inspector clicking on up/down arrows changed margin size by 1pt increments   (ie a single unit increment)
In Pages 5 clicking on the up/down arrows changes the margin size by 18pt increments ! huh?
Anyone know a way to make P5 change the margin size by single unit increments?   I've tried Shift, Alt, Command, Ctrl etc but makes no difference.
Seems the only way to change by 1pt is to highlight and type in the new value and hit enter. and then repeat to try 1pt different, and repeat to try etc etc - mindblowingly frustratingly when i want to quickly check out the doc layout at 6 or 7 slightly different margin sizes. And the reason I'm immediate moving back to Pages 09.
The margins in P5 can be found at:   Setup (cog wheel) > Document pane > Document Margins
Large size increment jumps happen whether units are set to pts, cms or ins.
I'm on Mavericks (which i think P5 requires anyway)

After looking at other people's posts, I think it's official: there is a bug. Itunes support said I should not have lost the drag/drop tool and I haven't on the laptop that is running itunes 10.4 and operating system 10.6.8. I chatted with someboby who lost both his drag/drop and side scroll and what we have in common is a wacom tablet for a mouse. My laptop is a wireless mouse. I reinstalled whatever updated driver that wacom has out there, shut the system down for night, hoping for magic, but alas none to be had. So if I want to change song order, I network the laptop and desktop, share the screen on the laptop, drag and drop to my heart's content and curse Apple for making me work this hard to find the tool that was once at my fingertips. Apple also let me know that if I want to share songs in household that the hundreds on songs that were purchased for .99 need to be repurchased for another .30. Maybe Apple is holding my drag/drop tool captive til I pay up the money or Maybe the next update will fix the problem, I for one give up for now.

Drill down arrow in Crystal Report

Hi,
I've created a crystal report based on a SQL statement that brings some information about service calls.
I would like to include a drill down arrow for service call ID.
I found this as being the link: 'http://$b1$/link?table=OCRD&key='+{OCRD.CardCode} but not sure how to change for what I need. I don't have any tables since I am using a command. Should I bring OSCL table? How do i have to chance it for CallID? I get an error message saying "A string is required".

I don't get any error message so thanks for this. I don't have OSCL table, I only have a command based on sql query containing the fields I want. When I replace OSCL with the command name it opens a web page "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" with http://$b1$/link?table=Command&key=6159 address. So it's recognising callID. Do I need to bring OSCL table and link it to my command and use OSCL in the link?

Down arrow key unreliable in iPhoto 11

I've just noticed that sometimes, when I'm in an event looking at photos in thumbnail view, my down arrow stop working. The up, right and left arrows work just fine, but the down one simply stops responding.
In certain events, I can move down the grid from top to bottom, but in others I can only do it for a few rows and then it stops responding. In fact, I can only go down to the 5th or 6th row. I thought that applied to every event that has more than 5 or 6 rows, but it doesn't. It randomly stops and then randomly start working again.
It's definitely not a mechanical problem, since the key works fine in iTunes, the Finder or anything else I've tried.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

Try this: launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem persists in the test library then a reinstall of iPhoto seems indicated. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iPhoto" in the file name with either a .PKG or .BOM extension that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder and from the /var/db/receipts/ folder,

Then install iPhoto from the disk it came on originally.
If the problem is not repeated in the test library then your current library may be corrupted. In that case make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Down arrow in scroll bar missing

Most of the time the down arrow on the scroll bar is missing or occupies the same space as the page expansion square in the lower right hand corner. This happens whether the up scrolling arrow is at the bottom or the top. It happens with all pages on Firefox and most pages from search engines. Sometimes it is there. It is on this page and some linked pages.

strange problem. Not sure if it will help but you can try this:
run the following command in the terminal
defaults write "Apple Global Domain" AppleScrollBarVariant DoubleBoth
restart Firefox and see what happens. the above is supposed to put up and down scroll arrows both at the top and at the bottom of the page.

HT201321 Numbers pad 4 5 6 and the up down arrow key quit working. I swithched keybouards (Both are Apple, and still have the same problem, its not hardware.)

The 4 5 6 keys and the up down arrows do not work.
I had the Cap C off for a While Had hit some key command
that shut it off so I got a new keyboard and it did the same.

Does the problem happen if you reboot the system into Safe Mode by holding the Shift key at startup?
Additionally, does the problem happen if you create a new user account in the Users & Groups system preferences and log into that?

On Mac, need to navigate to first google search listing by keystroke, the tab key works sometimesand sometimes the down arrow works, nothing works consistently

If I do a search using the google search engine, say of a phone number like (530) 335-5414 it results in a page with about 10 to 15 listing. Here is what the page looks like

I am on a mac and I need to find a keyboard command to get me reliably to select the first listing . When the caret appears next to the listing I can press the enter key to open the underlying hyperlink.
I have had success doing this with the tab key and sometimes it works almost 8 times in a row. Then I sometimes use the down arrow key and it occasionally gets me there. IS THERE A RELIABLE KEYBOARD NAVIGATION TO THE FIRST LISTING ON A GOOGLE SEARCH RESULT PAGE. I don't understand why my keyboard only works occasionally to navigate in this way . This is very important for me to do this and maybe someone out there knows how to get to select the first listing on a page by keyboard that works.

Down Arrow not Functioning Properly

The down arrow key is not doing what it is supposed to do. When pressed, nothing happens. For example, in Firefox it doesn't scroll down. In Word, it doesn't scroll down. In games, it doesn't control anything, and isn't recognized when pressed or rebound.
HOWEVER, the button clearly still functions. It still does other things. For example, in Firefox, when command+downArrow is pressed, it scrolls to the bottom of the page.
The problem also occurs when using just the laptop with no external hardware connected, when using an Apple blue tooth wireless keyboard, and when using a wireless usb Logitech keyboard. Both these external keyboards function perfectly in every other way.
This problem seemed to arise after I first plugged in my wireless Logitech keyboard (that is not OS X compatible on the box, as far as I know). When performing the keyboard set up, I could not complete the "keyboard type detection test" (because my shift control and alt keys were not side by side) so instead I chose the "standard us keyboard" option.
So why has my down arrow become unmapped has a "move thing down" button? And how can I fix it.

PS: Completely unrelated (I assume), but I recently had the logic board on the MBP replaced, after a fatal crash during World of Warcraft play that rendered the computer unusable. When the power button was pressed, it beeped SOS on a black screen. Lots of troubles here, I am not too impressed.

You can't brick your MBP doing anything with .plist files. I suggest that if the Logitech keyboard's software included a preference pane in the System Preferences window, you look carefully at all the settings in that prefpane for any that seems like it might have affected the mapping or behavior of your arrow key, and then look in Hard drive/Users/youraccountname/Library/Preferences for a .plist file with Logitech in its name or that appears related to the Logitech keyboard. If you find one, drag it out to the desktop, restart the computer, and see whether the key behaves any better. If you don't find anything in that folder that strikes you as a likely suspect, look for a .plist file with a "last modified" date on or shortly after the date when you first connected the Logitech KB, and drag that file to the desktop, then repeat the test.
Not knowing what if any software was installed to support the Logitech KB, and relying totally on your recollection that the problem began when you first used it, this is about all I can suggest. The ultimate resolution if all else fails will be to reinstall your OS, but I hope if my suggestions fail, someone else will have other ideas for you before you go to that drastic and tedious length.
Of course if you have a bootable clone of your hard drive from before the problem arose, simply restoring that to your internal hard drive will resolve the problem in about the same way as reinstalling everything, but in a small fraction of the time.

Unable to traverse directories with Command-Up Arrow anymore

This is a weird thing. Before going to 10.6/10.6.1, I was able to go up/down a directory level with Command-Up Arrow/Down Arrow, either in Finder or a save/load box.
Now, it doesn't work - has the update broken it ? Or is there a way to fix it ?

It seems to work OK on the MBP also on 10.6.1, but the iMac isn't playing ball. I'm debating whether or not to reinstall it again in case it's missing something.
I've deleted the finder.plist to no avail except for having to set up everything again !

Left/down arrow key - no repetition

Hi!
I've got no key repetition for my left/down arrow key. aaaaaaalll other keys including the right/up arrow key work.
I can only find bug reports concerning left/down keys to have a different repetition rate than the others... those here are from last year, so maybe this is the "fix" (HA!).

As mentioned at https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/278078 fix it temporarily... and I'm tired, because I accidentally read half the internet instead of going to sleep hoping to find the answer here tomorrow.
Now I'm sort of stuck with my post, as I was trying to ask for a workaround when I began writing and found one before I was finished. Posting this anyway - maybe someone has the same problem and/or knows a better solution.
I thing now it's repeating but to slow, trying again tomorrow. And stuff. "[partly solved]" most likely...

Just tried: Can use the two keyboards at once, both the same problem.
One is a logitech (usb receiver), the other one a 10$ standard ps/2, can type with both at the same time whichput restarting the computer or changing anything which is sort of neat, but that doesn't get the problem away.
The two commands (first post) still offer a temporary solution (works for both keyboards).

Reading web story without continually pressing down arrow

I have experience with JAWS on Windows and am trying to master VoiceOver. When I want to read a news story or a document in JAWS, I press INSERT + DOWN ARROW. I cannot get VoiceOver to duplicate this functionality. The Read Window command always start at the top corner of the window starting with the close button and then goes through all the toolbar items. The VO Read Item (VO-A) command would seem to be the right function, but it just reads the current item, not the entire article. Isn't there a way to read from where you are down to the bottom of an Internet news story, or from where you are in TextEdit to the end of the document without reading all the window toolbar items?

Have you tried Firefox's zoom feature? Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages
You can "zoom" all sites using this add-on: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2592/ NoSquint]. After setting your global zoom level, you can still fine-tune the zoom on individual sites.
After installing NoSquint, click the % on the Add-on Bar to call up site preferences, then click the Global Settings button, then the Zooming tab.
If you don't have the Add-on Bar displayed, you can right-click the new tab button ("+") or a blank area of the tab bar to the right of it and choose Add-on Bar from the shortcut menu.
You can experiment with sizes larger than 125%, but I wouldn't go much higher than 150% unless you have a large high-resolution monitor.
If there are particular sites that still present a problem, feel free to post their URLs.

Terminal Up and down Arrow

When using the terminal app i usually use up and down arrow to goto previous commands. But the long commands show up appended to previous commands.
eg
sudo dsudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow LoginwindowText ""

I already have that in my prompt PS1=

The 2nd \033 does not have a \[ in front of it.

SQL Plus command line: Arrow keys not giving previous commands back

As in tittle, I'm using sqlplus on Windows XP and OEL 5.5 and I can use up,down arrows in Windows to select previous command but I can't do it in Linux.
My DB is 11gR2 on OEL 5.5 .

Sorry, I don't know anything about Linux. The up-arrow feature on Windows seems to be provided by the operating system, not by Oracle. I would guess it's that way on Linux, too.
In Windows, there's one more thing that affect this: Properties -> Options -> Command History. Perhaps Linux has something similar.
In Windows (not just SQL*Plus or Oracle programs) if you right-click on the title bar at the top of a window, uyou get a small drop-down.
If you select the last item, "Properties", you get a small window with 4 tabs, the 1st of which is "Options".
On that "Options" tab, there are some settings for "Command History", oncluding Buffer Size. That seems to be the number of old ommands it will keep. You can set it to 0, but that seems to still keep 1 old command available via up-arrow.
Sorry I don't know any more.
